You know, I like how you reviewed this. Instead of being ready to throw the gun away and call it trash at the slightest issue you work with the gun and adapt to the gun, you don't force it to do what it doesn't need to do. You don't mind taking care of the gun and actually carrying it for a while. Very practical and insightful review.
It’s actually a good gun mine doesn’t have any problems tbh what I will say is your ammo really affects how your gun works so I advise to get the right ammo and trust me it’s not gonna let sown
@@hobonickel840 the best round that I’ve noticed that I use on my gun is “ cci maxi mag 22 WMR” like I’ve tried others.... for example I’ve tried winchester super x 22 mag and it has feeding problems and I can’t shot semi auto and also hornady critical defense rounds are really good to so far no issues so I really advise using the right ammo so your gun doesn’t have any issues and you also have to master you gun
MCARBO did a video on their parts upgrade kit that fixes the mag lock issue and replaces the feed ramp with a metal ramp. Polish it and run what you want. Don't give up on your PMR30!
Would agree with what you've said. I do carry mine, and for the reasons you mentioned of weight and effectiveness of 22 mag ammo. The full size design provides a natural and comfortable grip so you have the "feel" of a full size weapon. A well thought out presentation.
I've been carrying mine for about a week and I love it! Last night I handed my wife my empty sig p365 and the loaded PMR30 and she was amazed at the difference in weight. I have about 900rds through mine now and after the first mag I've had zero malfunctions.
You’re correct when you say you have to load the mag correctly. I spoke to a gun dealer at a show when the PMR 30 first came out. He got one of the first and said “I took it out and had trouble with it at first. Then when I read the owner’s manual and loaded it as instructed it functioned perfectly”. That shows you the owners manual should be read on every new weapon no matter how old you are or how many guns you’ve owned or how gun smart you think you are. I have watched many videos on the PMR30 and at least 95% of the people having problems with the gun are not loading the magazine correctly. If your life or the life of your loved ones isn’t worth a few extra seconds to insure your mags are loaded correctly and will function correctly then like you said, don’t buy a PMR30. I also purchased a auto/speed loader and found it to work perfectly. I don’t have the brand/name handy but it is the type you drop the cartridge in through a slot and press down on the mag on a table and it loads the mag easily, quickly and correctly. I’ve had no problems with failure to feed or reliably. I personally feel it is a great weapon. Like you said, I feel it is a great concealed carry gun and as you pointed out with 2 extra mags, which are really light weight, you’ve got 90 rounds. I seriously doubt one would need that many but I’ve always said if I get in a firefight I don’t want to be the one who runs out of ammo.
I know exactly how to load the gun. I did my research prior to loading the first mag. I also feed it 40 grain CCIs. I love the pistol. I am extremely accurate with it, but it is nowhere near reliable, not even close. This is a common problem, which explains the Mcarbo kits. I hear they are very good, but I'm too cheap to buy one...
Great video. So refreshing to see a good positive video about this gun. I love my PMR30. About 1500 rounds in and I've only had about 5 failures but it was very early, like in the first and second mags thru the gun. I load the mags correctly and I shoot the ammo that works. This gun is way underrated as a self defense weapon. Imagine getting shot multiple times in the chest area. You're done. No recoil and great penetration of the 22wmr. again, great vid. thanks.
Thanks for watching! Yes I’ve had my faith in this gun restored many times over after a less than stellar beginning. I truly think that a pistol like this is the future. So versatile and easy to carry.
I bought one of the first ones. the first mag I had two failure to battery. taped rt in . second mag the same problem ,once. Let me state in general most guns that I have owned need 200,300, maybe 500 rounds fired thru them. it always bothers me when I see a gun test that's brand new. and that's the end of my pmr 30 problems. Many Many boxes latter, I loved it ever since the first box of ammo. I flush all my guns in the field or range with G7. All the stories of other fellas ammo they used baffled me. shoots great. shoots faster. shoots flatter. I usually load one box, two clips. 25 each. Thanks.
Anyone who wouldn't trust the pmr30 with their life has either never seen the 22 magnum capabilities or they've not mastered the gun. Or they fear their attacker will be a Giganotosaurus.
Its not that the .22 magnum doesnt have effective ballistics, its the fact that rimfire was never intended to be a semi automatic cartridge and has a lot of malfunctions even in the best guns. Ill stick to a semi auto centerfire for defense, i could see this pistol playing a role as a varmint gun or backup gun though.
BELA GINGS you're telling the truth at that velocity and Mag capacity plus price I can't think of a better gun. The FN FiveSeven possibly but that gun is like $800-$1000 more soooooo..........
l remember watching when you were first trying the gun, l was thinking "man if that pistol was 100% reliable, it would be a supreme defensive pistol".... and here we are. A lot of crowd is inclined to think of thick long bullets as the best defensive option because of "stoping power", and to some degree it is true, larger bullets have more capacity to harm, but that tends to work in the bleeding out factor, wich is better for medium and long ranges where hitting targets in the exact spot you want is more difficult. But always knew that in close range is more about shot placement, a good .22lr headshot within 20meters will stop a man cold in its tracks no matter how strong or pumped on adrenaline or drugs. Now .22magnum has that extra energy to pierce through hard bones, so for soft targets wich is the typical defense scenario that is enough. Add the minimal recoil that allows you to stay on target easily and the 30 rounds on magazine which allows for suppresing fire even, and you have essentially an assault pistol. My only complain about the PMR30 would be the safety, something like the trigger safety of the glock would be more suitable for a defensive pistol, the mag release is good considering how much you need to fire before reloading, enough to take cover if you haven´t eliminated the threat by then. Great vid, and remember you are not crazy about considering it a defensive firearm, in its time glock passed through the same and now is the standard.
I really want the FN but I feel this is where I'm going I already have the FNX Tact 45 so I don't believe I need to break the bank again when you have this gun that is clearly comparable to the far more expensive FiveSeven.
Milk of the puppy I have the FNX Tactical too! It’s a fantastic 45! Love it. Yeah. I’ve flirted with getting the FiveSeven but it only has a 20 round capacity and I’ve got 9mm pistols that have that capacity so why would I get a gun that shoots a much more expensive round with the same capacity as my 9mm? That’s what held me up anyway. But now you have the Ruger 57 which can do everything the FiveSeven can do at about half the price, so......🤔 I still doubt I would get one. The clear advantage of 30 rounds of relatively cheap ammo in a pistol that is light weight is the real magic of the PMR30. I doubt you will be sorry once you get one that works.
I have 2 PMR's the first one I bought about 7 years ago. It was a bear to get running right but I finally did. Just bought my second one. It runs like a Swiss watch. I have 8 mags. 240 rds on hand with little weight is formidable. (and loud) 🙉
Nice! Yes Keltec released the first gen with a few bugs that needed to be worked out. But I hear good things now about the reliability of these guns. Such a great design. Glad to hear stories like yours.
It’s a reminder to me that the future of firearms is very bright and filled with possibilities as long as sharp minds like the one in Kelgren’s head keep on working.
Thank you for all of your videos. After watching each one so far, I picked up the pmr 30. First time out shooting federal 40gr, only had one magazine not feeding. But after putting 190 rounds through it right out the box, no issues with firing.
I carry my gen 2 PMR 30 as a concealed carry weapon about 80% of the time, depending on where im going ill add a 357 snub in my boot but my PMR 30 is my primary carry weapon and its insanely reliable .
I have this gun too. Yours is the best and most instructional video to date on this firearm. Thank you so much for putting this video out. It will be super helpful to anyone who obtains one of these amazing guns.
Have had my PMR30 for about 7 years now, only thing I have to be very aware of is when loading up the mag, especially when it’s nearly full, the force you need to compress the mag spring can cause you to dent the cartridge that was just seated. Then you must extract the dented cartridge or you risk it getting jammed in the barrel or failing to load! The fun thing was in going to an indoor gun range and seeing others stop their shooting just to see how many shots that little gun is going to shoot!
I hear ya. It runs out of ammo way after you lose count of how many rounds you’ve shot. It’s high capacity is its greatest feature. And it’s light weight is it’s second, in my opinion.
It makes it a lot easier when loading hard to load magazines by inverting the mag from side to side. Load a round on one side turn it to the other side and load the next. It really does help.
Just bought this at sportsman’s warehouse. It’s my first gun. Been watching your videos and plenty of others about this gun. Read the reviews. Felt it was the right choice.
It’s a commitment. Once you train with it and get past the initial break in period and don’t get frustrated (possibly) it’s an amazing gun with huge potential. Always puts a smile on my face. 😉
One of the things I like about this gun is that it's surprisingly easier to reload it than with other pistols. I've noticed that with most handguns where the mag release is up by the trigger that sometimes you have to adjust your grip to press the button with enough force to get the mag to release all the way. With this gun I can literally just use the thumb of my left hand and press the button in, the mag will fall out just enough for my thumb to slip off the mag release and flick the magazine the rest of the way out of the gun, and then because I'm already holding the next mag I can just smack it in and it's ready to go in 2 seconds.
That is an excellent point! I’m surprised by other reviewers who complain about the heel mag release. It’s not harder but it is a new skill to learn. And once you learn it it’s quite effective. Not that with 30 rounds on tap you will need to do rapid reloads all that often…
@@MaxHeadspace9mm In the store before I purchased it, I was a little confused not knowing where the mag release was and then I saw it and I did at first make a comment to the store owner along the lines of "I guess tactical reloading is out of the question" but I bought it anyway because it's just such a cool and arguably still practical handgun altogether so I couldn't pass it up. Once I got home with it I practiced reloads with it and realized that it's actually much easier with this design to reload quickly. So yeah, preference and practicality are not always on the same page and once you are proficient in what you're doing you sometimes find that what you're unfamiliar with is actually a better way of doing things. I guess then again, gun-nuts were not always famous for having an open mind.
Your loading it wrong you dont load it like a 9mm you load it like a rifle if you look further back there is a line where you push down and it automatically puts it in line. I know because when I first bought mines I was loading it like a 9mm but load it more like a rifle and push down more towards the middle of the gun and they will line up perfect
@Frank Masuzzo So, apparently, a sense of humor and being able to look at things from the light side once in a while is bad? No worse than being too easily offended. No "slight" or insult was intended.
Thank you for the info. One of my two mags was loaded incorrectly. I had a difficult time removing the cartridges. I will now follow your instructions to the letter.
Thanks, good scoop. I got one 2 months ago and have been researching and buying various ammo before I hit the range. You've answered a lot of my concerns. I'll lay some comments down on my results soon, hopefully by next week.
I was still having feeding problems with mine. Then I got a Springfied XDM in 10 mm. The PMR ran flawlessly after I shot the the XDM and I realized that I wasn't gripping the Kel Tec enough. The first few years, it didn't seem to need such an iron grip. Maybe I'm getting old. I found that mine fits in 1911 w/rail holsters from Alien, Crossbreed and Remora.
It’s also possible that your PMR30 knew you were shooting the XDM and got jealous. Nothing like a little competition to make a gun shape up!😉 But seriously I find malfunctions with any pistol (even Glocks) happen more frequently with a loose grip.
I have a cp33 as well as the pmr 30. The cp33 is loads of fun for target shooting and plinking around. I carry the pmr30 all the time as I work for myself doing a lot of various things weedeating road banks ditch lines and a few 3 acre yards as well as bushogging around 400 acres twice a year and spraying the fence rows around them. So I have several opportunities to use the pmr30 on groundhogs coyotes copperheads etc. I have the Keltec speedloader for the cp33 and it works for the pmr30 also and i have yet to have a problem with either gun jamming or anything else. I do only load 27 rounds in the pmr30 as I don't like to stress the spring in the clips. I carry mine in an Uncle Mikes holster with the spare mag pouch made into it so thats 55 rounds of ammo (27×2+1 in the chamber). I did lose a clip once because of the mag release while chasing a calf to doctor it and had to look for about 20 minutes to find it. I solved the problem with a plastic nozzle for a sprayer I have by cutting it down and inserting it in between the mag release and the mag and now the button can't be pushed in without removing the plastic piece which takes about 2 seconds to pop it out and if I can't get the job done with the first 28 rounds well the few extra seconds added on the reload to pop out the extra plastic piece probably isn't gonna matter! I wear sleeveless T shirts and have no problems covering it up in the holster which I live in the county/country/sticks and carrying isn't an Issue for us. Really enjoyed your review!
I’ve heard others talk about light loading the mag on the Pmr30. I haven’t been doing that but I’m interested in finding out why you prefer that. Have you had better reliability?
@@MaxHeadspace9mm …yes my brother I’ve had much better reliability…. However I haven’t done any upgrades to my PMR30 and I bought it new 4 years ago … I ran 20 rounds through it nicely … but I’ve heard the new feed ramp makes a big difference .
I use a Magpul pmr/cmr loader and It loads the rounds quickly and flawlessly. No hitches all the way to 30 rounds . I also in my pmr use the speer Gold Dot 40 grain cartridges and they work slick as owl SHIT. I do use other 40 grain or higher ammo such as cci and Federal but absolutely no BROWNING even their 40 grain does not feed good.
Well things have changed since my last post and I have since then purchased a PMR 30! Yes, I have had this gun since the beginning of this year and I have now had almost 1000 Failure Free rounds shot through this Gun. I have followed all the Instructions and guidelines which are in the user guide and I only use 40 Grain Hi velocity ammo with no problems at all! I just received a OWB Holster for this gun from "Alien Gear Holsters" and I will use my PMR 30 as my EDC! This gun is super accurate and with the 30 round magazine, it should become an awesome self defense gun for me! Thanks for this Video!
Great video , I'm considering getting one of these within the next month or so for plinking a woods gun and everything in between, I have shot one and love the feel of it and the versatility
It’s an amazing and very unique pistol. If you get one I hope it works perfectly right off the bat. But if it doesn’t just make the decision to send it to KelTec before you get frustrated. You won’t regret it.
It took a bit but I carry the same setup but I do it at 12:00. A little adjustment when driving. However still find it on ❤th comfort side. eBay offers some different holster options.
I don't cc mine, but it lives between me and my front door. I bought it as a bug out companion for my Ruger American 22WMR but like it too much to leave it packed away. BTW, anyone who thinks 22 mag isn't a capable round has more than likely never owned one.
It’s an awesome peace. You can get them with all the bits you need to change so you can uprade the day you get it. Also S&W just out out a great .22 mag which is like $150 more then the PMR-30. I can only afford 1-2 nice guns per year and this is next on the list . I love that it’s like a AR-15 for side arm carry.
KelTec has a SS ramp feed and a better magazine release. There is a video on the update. My Keltec was malfunctioning and I used 3n1 oil on slide and magazine ramp. I corrected the problem. I use a shoulder rig with my Proper Tactical zipper shirts. It carries well.
Has anyone ran the new Federal Punch 22 WMR features a 45-grain nickel-plated lead-core bullet through their PMR 30? If yes, then please share your experiences and note if you had any MCARBO upgrades made to your PMR 30. I had all of the MCARBO upgrades, but have been focusing on 9mm. Now that this new ammo is out I think I will get a few boxes and run a bunch of cci fmj and hollows and this new federal. Also I live very close to kel tec - i am encouraging a gen 2 of the pmr 30 where all of the MCARBO upgrades are incorporated and to change the mag release to a thumb button eject and to have OEM weighted base plates made so the mags clear on the fly. I want to start a petition. Please indicate if you would be willing to sign the survey so I can take it to Kel Tec to encourage the gen 2.
My manual to my PMR-30 Shows me a different way to load it. I started trying to load from the front just like you are but that magazine has Naches where you can put the bullet way back further and push it in. It's less likely to do damage to the cartridge that way.
I thought that was how I was doing it. Using the notches in the top. I think I even pointed that out in the video. I will get it out and check again. Thanks for the heads up😉
@@MaxHeadspace9mm I thought I was doing it right loading from the front just like 99.9 percent of other cartridges load in magazines. It a very common mistake.
I have a Beretta Neos 22 pistol. It is the easiest slide I have. But I have sold all my centerfire semi autos because medical/physical limitations make it hard tor me to bend over to get brass. BUT my PT person at the VA Clinic said she may have something that will make it easy to pick up the brass. I sure hope so because I have a lot of money wrapped up in reloading stuff for several calibers. I can rack the slides with effort but I love a tool that makes a loud bang and pushes me around a bit.
MCARBO has a very nice kit for the PRM30. I'm thinking of buying one and would install their kit on this pistol. Your video is very informative. Thanks!!
Thank you for watching. Yes I’ve often thought of outfitting this pistol with all their products but my early skepticism stemmed from wether or not this was even a viable concept for a pistol. I believed Kelgren is a master designer and wanted to see if the pistol could work as manufactured. All work and mods were done by their workers in their facility. After all they really should Ultimately be responsible for getting a working gun to the buyer. After that mod away!
Hey Max. I actually got this and the P17. I got them for my tiny Filipino fiance. She has never fired a gun and almost all my pistols are 9mm. I thought this would be a good bedside gun for her. But looks like maybe drop 5 rounds to be safe if leaving the mag in it? The P17 I thought she might want to eventually carry in her purse. Looking forward to hopefully getting a good Keltec which as you said is hit or miss. I bought their recommended CCI ammo so should be good.
Also get the loader for the mag. Makes a huge difference in reliability. I never had to download the mag but I don’t store them for long without either shooting them or cycling them out with another mag to let the spring rest. With most mags there is no need to do this but with really high capacity mags it helps.
@@MaxHeadspace9mm Hey Max thanks for the info! I actually havent even shot the PMR30. I took the P17 to my brothers and used a suppressor and it was 100% reliable. I only went through 6 mags but was very happy. Its sooooo lightweight! Then I took to my father n laws and sighted in. But the settings wont let me take it to the left enough. So Im thinking of sending back to Keltec for sighting. Will def get the loader!
Hope you are doing well Max Headspace9mm. We miss seeing your great videos. We still appreciate you featuring our holsters in your videos. Happy holidays to you and your family.
I am alive and well! Thank you for checking in. I still enjoy using your holsters. I’m a fan! As you may have heard the state where I live has become increasingly hostile towards gun owners and conservatively minded people. As a result it’s been increasingly challenging to do my thing. I’m in the process of moving yet again to a state where freedoms are protected. Oregon has recently passed measure 114 which is THE most restrictive of any state in America.
@@MaxHeadspace9mm I find it quite ridiculous how so many people are for getting rid of our freedoms. You don't hear the phrase "Land of the Free" too often these days because it is slowly become less true. I hope your move to a different state goes smoothly. They are trying to pass a bill in Michigan also that is absurd.
@@sylvestertactical2475 I find it interesting how lawmakers are perfectly willing to enact unconstitutional, freedom limiting laws just to win points with their base. That used to be called tyranny but now it’s commonplace. We are being lulled into a police state. “All enemies both foreign and domestic.”
Great review as always Max! So glad to have you back brother!!! I still have the PMR30 on my wishlist because of you!!! I have plenty of patience.....not much skill....but PLENTY of patience lol.
Haha! Me too. But can you imagine 30 rounds in a pistol that’s half the weight of a glock17? It’s really unlike anything else around. Some hate them, some understand them. And if you remember those videos where I shot clay with 45, 9mm and 22 mag the PMR30 really surprised me. It’s far more of a candidate for defensive purposes than most people realize
@@MaxHeadspace9mm 100% remember them....I was happy with 9mm blasts as well but yeah was shocked at the 22 mag.....even though I have more respect than most for it. I shot my first deer with a 22 mag....dropped it first shot.....like a rock.
Brad C Yeah. The people I know who really have experience with 22 mag respect it well for its capability. But some others who aren’t hunters or are new to firearms just seem to look at it as another 22 and disregard it. Too bad for them.
Brad C I know. There is so much going against the PMR30. And the round it shoots is one of them. If more people gave it a chance it would be Gun of the Year!
I use a mag loader for my PMR to make sure the mag is loaded right. i can recommend. this Maglula Lula Magazine Speed Loader and Unloader for Kel-Tec PMR-30 it works great
I love my PMR and I also did something that no one I seen with this gun did I got a set of clip ends that Kel TEC made for it and cut the extra plastic of to be more profile and it helps not to eject the clip if you hit it by mistake my next step is to get a kit for it.trained the military for meny years and I use that for my pmr
This is a great video, but it really needs to be updated. There is a great speedloader now available. It is called the American Speedloaders and it is available through Kel-Ted. Also, if you use this weapons for a carry gun you will certainly need to use some type of ear protection. Max, what type of ear protection do you use?
Been considering getting one of these but kinda chuckled at the title of this video thinking its way too big. However, 8:48 is a good point. I do like how high up that sits. My Ruger Security 380 with the 10 round mag sits lower and too close to my waistline on my pants and makes drawing it kinda tricky to get a good grip. Something that sat higher up would be great. Looks like an awesome pistol.
The first gens had issues. A co-worker has a first gen. He had the same issues. Sent it back. And 6 weeks later he got it back. It's been a great gun since. I have a newer model and the only issue I had was with a box of non recommended ammo. But I have a few thousand rounds through mine. A great all around gun. Love it when I go back packing
Yes. Unfortunately Keltec had this habit of releasing new guns before all the production issues are worked out. Actually that isn’t unusual with many new releases from many gun manufacturers but somehow Keltec gets more criticism for doing that.
I bought mine in the green color have shot 10 full mags through it I use either federal ammo or critical defense round Winchester makes she works well and I polished the clip, and feed ramp it shoots just as fast as you can trigger it. great video
Mine would not run. No more than 3 rounds without a failure. I snugged up the mags with the glue trick and polished and installed Mcarbo feed ramp and that didn't help. It was returned to Keltec 3 months ago. I was informed that it is waiting for me at the gun shop. Hopefully it will be ok now. Will update when I know.
Thanks for your video. I am now seriously considering the PMR 30 for my larger self-defense option. But I'll probably attach a flash-light, apply the talon-grips, and find a suitable holster. I like the magazine capacity, light weight, and easy to handle recoil.
You have to get the Maglula PMR30/CMR30 magazine loader it is a must have for this pistol. Load 30 rounds fast and easy. Very reliable from my personal experience.
Thank you very much for the tip! I just ordered the maglula general purpose multi cal loader and I’m looking forward to using it. I didn’t know they made one for the PMR30!
It has a couple feed ramp and magazine latch issues where the mag seats a mm or two down... other than thise problems wich are an easy fix and you listen to what the manual says it's an amazing round
Cool video learned something new. I also conceal carry just love this gun have the same holster and ammo where did you pick up the extra mags I have been looking for a extra one
There's a company out there that makes upgraded parts like a stainless steel feed ramp, a stronger slide spring, and a new and slightly smaller magazine release button that holds the magazine a little higher and also helps prevent accidentally dropping the magazine out when you grip the gun tightly. Those are a few of the big reasons why they have issues.
I've carried my PMR 30 a few times. Winter time because its a big gun. My gun only malfunctioned when I put in the extended barrel. It wouldn't feed well. Put the OG barrel back in no problems.
Good to know. I’ve spoken with a few people who carry the PMR30 and I think it’s going to be more as time goes on. It’s so light! I notice weight much more than the size of a gun.
And another thing is that with 2 mags you got the same firepower as almost 4 mags out of a Glock . I carry a Canik TP9 Elite Combat and it holds 18 plus one but as you said it's much heavier. I'm gonna get a pmr30 asap
Hey Max thanks for the video.... I own both the pmr and cmr and and love them both. Now having said that I will say I had a couple issues with the pmr. First the front sight fell off (a common problem with the first ones on the market) then the firing pin broke. I sent it back to keltec and they fixed it no problem. When I broke the gun down I noticed a large amount of lubes under the firing pin and I think it created a hydraulic effect on the firing pin ... just guessing. But now the gun runs as always(follow the manual of arms for it) any issues I have had has been operated era.only ammo issues r the light bullets. Now the cmr has run flawless with all ammo . Buy one folks and enjoy at the price point for these guns u won't find a better trigger or more accurate gun. Just my opinion.
I agree with you. It’s often a little tricky getting these dialed in and working perfectly but it is possible. And once you do the reward is worth it! I really need to pick up a CMR30🤔
I see that this video is 4 years old, I hope you will see this comment. I am 76 year old male with arthritis in thumbs and wrist, so recoil is a real problem. Love this gun and feel it is a viable CCW. I put a TR30 for a PMR30 Laser on my gun. Would like to know if there is a IWB holster that will work with this laser?
Unfortunately I haven’t seen any off the shelf holsters with those mods but a custom holster from a local maker may not be that hard to get. May cost a little more but will be worth it. 😉
I just found on in my local gun shop for 499.00. Not bad for the type of gun that it is. I haven't shot it yet because I am lazy but it is a good looking gun and I did load the mags with 25 rounds but I have a loader coming tomorrow. great video. Thanks.
Man when I first got my pmr 30 I really hated it. It would jam all the time and sometimes the rounds would stick in the magazine and not feed. But after I used nothing but 40 and 45 grain ammo and bought a really good speed loader from American speedloaders and didn't even have to tap the magazine. It functioned flawlessly ever since and has become one of my favorite handguns.
The biggest thing I found with this is flat out loading the ammo. After the first two mags loaded before I got the loader I had 11 issue since that time not one issue same goes for the CMP30 I just got. I forgot to say that all the miss fires came in the last 10 rounds loaded and it was I bent the case since it was vary hard to load the 21 to 30th round.
At approximately what range are the sights set at? The rear sight is not adjustable for windage or elevation., and the front is only adjustable by drifting it side to side.
1. You did not mention if you put any after market changes in your pistol. Or did I miss something? MCarbo? 2. KT told me they DO NOT recommend after market adjustments. Or do they just “say” that? A thorough review.
I haven’t made any changes or used any after market products on my pistol. Just lube and cycling. Then I sent it directly to Keltec when all my attempts didn’t work.
@@MaxHeadspace9mm I chose not to do any troubleshooting so I have now twice sent my pistol back to KelTec. They replaced the barrel most recently, and I have only had time to put 50 rounds through it after that, and there were no malfunctions in those 50 rounds. I need to put more rounds through it to make sure that the problems have been worked out. you have done a good thorough job on this video and I like how you pointed out the dichotomy between dealing with a gun that is not necessarily ready to go out of the box, and getting it to a point where it is absolutely fabulous.
I am old and don't have a lot of strength in my hands so a loader would be a necessity about halfway thru. I plan to get tins pistol soon and so far no review will shy me away. I doubt I will do any mag dumps and my bet is that if i pay attention when loading, I will have no problems. (I am posting on Sept. 14, 2024)
Thanks for the video. I just picked up a PMR30. So far i have only shot about 150 rounds. And i did have 1 fail to feed. It did not jam just did not feed. I think it shoots good. I just have to work on my loading skills, i am up to 25 in the mag so far. I will try for 30 next time out. I also have a P-17 and it is a nice shooter also. Thanks for the info on this one.
Glad to help. If you take care of your PMR30 it will take care of you. You can’t abuse it like a Glock but if you do your part it will definitely treat you right.
Just purchased a pmr 30 last week. Haven’t had time to give a shot yet. After viewing this video, think I made a wise decision in getting it. Been wanting one for years, they are hard to find. Got lucky in my local gun shop, their wholesaler had just brought it to them the day before. Will let you know how it performs. Bought 2000 rounds to have on hand for today’s climate.
Excellent decision. All around great, versatile weapon. Just take care of the details and it will take care of you. And if you find that yours doesn’t run reliably watch my series on this pistol in order and you will be able to sort it out. I hope you get to reliability more easily that I did but it’s still a fantastic gun.
Ran 300 rounds thru the gun yesterday, was failing to feed the last round in each mag, was confused until I got to thinking that the last round fired is the first round loaded. Paid attention to make sure the first round was seated against the back of the mag while loading and it feed flawlessly thru the next 200 rounds. I really like this gun, will run another 300 sometime this week just to make sure all its performing the way it should and all the kinks are worked out to my satisfaction so that I will be comfortable carrying this gun for personal defense in the right situation.
David Martin Yeah. Once you work out loading the mag it’s natural and easy. Just different than other mags. Lots of unusual details with this gun. But getting them right makes all the difference.
I'm able to consistently run 31 (yes 31) thru each clip..... Here it is, September 4th 2022. I have a few PMR-30's. All recent PMR's. I can say that they now run like a watch! They also eat anything! I keep trying to screw them up with very light grain weight bullets, but still no issues, what so ever, at all. 30 grain Hornady V-Max, 30 grain CCI VNT, 35 grain CCI A-22, 40 grain CCI Maxi-Mags. Lovin it! Do you carry yours with a round in the chamber?
I carry conditionally. Which means that in most circumstances day to day, when there’s no reason to expect danger I carry chamber empty. But I practice drawing and racking in one smooth motion. If I have reason to believe I’m in a more dangerous situation like a bad neighborhood at night I carry one in the chamber.
👍🤜👍Hornaday 45 and 50 grain it's been reliable both before and after purchasing a few upgrades mainly a better recoil spring and i ended up making my own owb light bearing red dot cut out holster after purchasing three different types of holsters
Great little pistol , but my only problem is one of my three mags does not handle more than 18-20 rounds! Well I watched this video and it solved my mag loading problems ! Thanks for this video

Thank you!😉
been carrying pm30 ...because I liked the idea of having a pocket AR15

It’s actually a good gun mine doesn’t have any problems tbh what I will say is your ammo really affects how your gun works so I advise to get the right ammo and trust me it’s not gonna let sown

MCARBO did a video on their parts upgrade kit that fixes the mag lock issue and replaces the feed ramp with a metal ramp. Polish it and run what you want. Don't give up on your PMR30!
Just got my kit this week. I got the mag release, feed ramp and recoil spring.

And thanks for watching😉
I carry one now as well. Light weight, great trigger, low recoil and very reliable with quality ammo. 31 shots to boot!
It’s a tremendous force equalizer at your side and it doesn’t demand much but that you take care of it. Pretty great option I agree!
Would agree with what you've said. I do carry mine, and for the reasons you mentioned of weight and effectiveness of 22 mag ammo. The full size design provides a natural and comfortable grip so you have the "feel" of a full size weapon. A well thought out presentation.
Thanks😉
25 each. Thanks.

Thanks for your input. Comments like yours help give people confidence who are on the fence about these pistols like I was for years.
Anyone who wouldn't trust the pmr30 with their life has either never seen the 22 magnum capabilities or they've not mastered the gun. Or they fear their attacker will be a Giganotosaurus.
BELA GINGS
I figure if a 12 gauge slug won’t take out a gigantosaurus then he deserves not only my respect but my body as food.
BELA GINGS very well said with the new ammo they have came out with is great for self defense I carry mine edc
Giga please
l remember watching when you were first trying the gun, l was thinking "man if that pistol was 100% reliable, it would be a supreme defensive pistol".... and here we are.
Amen brother. Couldn’t have said it better😉
I really want the FN but I feel this is where I'm going I already have the FNX Tact 45 so I don't believe I need to break the bank again when you have this gun that is clearly comparable to the far more expensive FiveSeven.
Milk of the puppy
I have the FNX Tactical too!
But now you have the Ruger 57 which can do everything the FiveSeven can do at about half the price, so......🤔
I still doubt I would get one.
The clear advantage of 30 rounds of relatively cheap ammo in a pistol that is light weight is the real magic of the PMR30.
I doubt you will be sorry once you get one that works.
Keep the pmr coming !!!!!!!
i changed out my feed ramp, mag release, and trigger from MCARBO and now it is flawless
Love my PMR! I've had it for over a year now and is awesome. A lot of our local law enforcement is also using now.
It’s a reminder to me that the future of firearms is very bright and filled with possibilities as long as sharp minds like the one in Kelgren’s head keep on working.
Law Enforcement, really? You can't be serious...
@Max Headspace9mm Kelgren's head may be working, friend, but his firearms are not...
Thank you for all of your videos. After watching each one so far, I picked up the pmr 30. First time out shooting federal 40gr, only had one magazine not feeding. But after putting 190 rounds through it right out the box, no issues with firing.

Good to hear! The adventure begins!
I carry my gen 2 PMR 30 as a concealed carry weapon about 80% of the time, depending on where im going ill add a 357 snub in my boot but my PMR 30 is my primary carry weapon and its insanely reliable .
It’s a really easy choice to live with. So big but so light. Great design.
Mine is insanely accurate, but nowhere near reliable.
I have this gun too. Yours is the best and most instructional video to date on this firearm. Thank you so much for putting this video out. It will be super helpful to anyone who obtains one of these amazing guns.
Thanks😉
Buy a plastic speed loader from Mcarbo
It makes it a lot easier when loading hard to load magazines by inverting the mag from side to side. Load a round on one side turn it to the other side and load the next. It really does help.
Just bought this at sportsman’s warehouse. It’s my first gun. Been watching your videos and plenty of others about this gun. Read the reviews. Felt it was the right choice.
It’s a commitment. Once you train with it and get past the initial break in period and don’t get frustrated (possibly) it’s an amazing gun with huge potential.
Always puts a smile on my face. 😉
Just ordered mine a few days ago and was hesitant, but after see your video and others, I can't wait! Good stuff 👌
That is one of the guns I use from day to day that and my IWI jaraco
Quite a difference in weight and caliber!
S Λ M U R Λ I
Yeah. It seems that the more you practice with a traditional mag release the more you have to work to unlearn that habit.
Did you buy land mines, or water mines? ,)
@Frank Masuzzo
So, apparently, a sense of humor and being able to look at things from the light side once in a while is bad? No worse than being too easily offended. No "slight" or insult was intended.
I was always interested in the PMR but was concerned by all the alleged reliability problems. Thanks for all the information.
M carbo has a kit that fixes most of the issues.
Excellent! I’m interested to hear your thoughts.
Great video Max. I own and just bought another for my wife. Thanks for putting some decent lighting on your table. Old eyes here!
I know what you mean😉
I was still having feeding problems with mine. Then I got a Springfied XDM in 10 mm. The PMR ran flawlessly after I shot the the XDM and I realized that I wasn't gripping the Kel Tec enough. The first few years, it didn't seem to need such an iron grip. Maybe I'm getting old. I found that mine fits in 1911 w/rail holsters from Alien, Crossbreed and Remora.
It’s also possible that your PMR30 knew you were shooting the XDM and got jealous. Nothing like a little competition to make a gun shape up!😉
But seriously I find malfunctions with any pistol (even Glocks) happen more frequently with a loose grip.
Use a blackhawk 1911 for mine
That is how I feel about my PMR 30,
I have a cp33 as well as the pmr 30.
Great detailed and informative video.

Thanks for the tip! I will try those out.

I don't cc mine, but it lives between me and my front door. I bought it as a bug out companion for my Ruger American 22WMR but like it too much to leave it packed away. BTW, anyone who thinks 22 mag isn't a capable round has more than likely never owned one.
Learned a lot of new stuff watching this video thank you for the awesome in depth reviews!
Thank you for watching.

Yes. Old habits die hard.
I love my PMR.. use good ammo.. it's flawless
Yes. I love mine. Nothing else like it on the planet.
If you haven’t by now get hold of Mcarbo for their complete pmr 30 upgrade kit. It is fantastic and a must for a edc.
I find it interesting how lawmakers are perfectly willing to enact unconstitutional, freedom limiting laws just to win points with their base. That used to be called tyranny but now it’s commonplace.
We are being lulled into a police state.

Brad C
Yeah. The people I know who really have experience with 22 mag respect it well for its capability. But some others who aren’t hunters or are new to firearms just seem to look at it as another 22 and disregard it. Too bad for them.
@@MaxHeadspace9mm Exactly....mainly keyboard warriors that have never actually used the cal.....its a totally different round!
Brad C
I know. There is so much going against the PMR30. And the round it shoots is one of them. If more people gave it a chance it would be Gun of the Year!
I use a mag loader for my PMR to make sure the mag is loaded right. i can recommend. this Maglula Lula Magazine Speed Loader and Unloader for Kel-Tec PMR-30 it works great
Thanks for the tip. I really am a fan of Lula loaders so I will check it out.
It’s very unique. With unique features and advantages. I think that for some it may be the ultimate.
Your advice helped thanks.
I bought mine in the green color have shot 10 full mags through it I use either federal ammo or critical defense round Winchester makes she works well and I polished the clip, and feed ramp it shoots just as fast as you can trigger it. great video
Thanks! I love mine too. Great design. Best kept secret in the gun world I feel🤔
Looking forward to hearing. When they work reliably it’s the best thing going.
Thanks for your video. I am now seriously considering the PMR 30 for my larger self-defense option. But I'll probably attach a flash-light, apply the talon-grips, and find a suitable holster. I like the magazine capacity, light weight, and easy to handle recoil.
Thank you for watching! Good luck and enjoy the adventure. There is no other pistol like this.
Definitely an interesting pistol. I've had trigger time on one but it was brief.
It’s weird and wonderful!
The M Carbo Kel Tec upgrade cures all the feeding problems for this gun.
Just bought one….:FDE of course. Cant wait to get it!
Thank you so very much. I want to go and look at one of these.
i own both the PMR and the CMR. Love'm both. And as far as loading the magazine I have a loader that I got from Amazon. I use as my EDC no problem.
Yeah. I got a couple loaders before I found one that really worked well.
But they are amazing guns for sure😉
You have to get the Maglula PMR30/CMR30 magazine loader it is a must have for this pistol. Load 30 rounds fast and easy. Very reliable from my personal experience.
Thank you very much for the tip! I just ordered the maglula general purpose multi cal loader and I’m looking forward to using it. I didn’t know they made one for the PMR30!
Agree wholeheartedly
This one
PMR-30® .22WMR LULA® Loader & UnLoader
Maglula makes an INCREDIBLE magazine speed loader that makes loading the magazine 100% trivial and 100% reliable.
I love mine, but can't pocket carry it. In SE Texas we have winter jacket weather for about 20 days in February. Rest of the year is Summer.
Oh yes. This is a full size handgun. It’s light but not small.
I have this and the CMR30. Great having a handgun and rifle that use the same magazines
It’s brilliant! It’s almost like the perfect big out combo. Light, crazy high capacity and compact.
I would be very interested in those parts. This gun has a lot of potential.
Great review! I do own one as well and I also concealed carry it too as a backup! Merry Christmas brother!
Merry Christmas!🎄
I have one , I learned the hard way to load the magazines . I love it .
Once you learn that lesson it’s hard to forget. This gun teaches you to pay attention to the details and be a better gun owner 😉
Recommend MCarbo. They have a great loader for the PMR..
If you file down the ridge on the Barrel & feed and then polish the bullet ramp and it'll run great.
I just found on in my local gun shop for 499.00. Not bad for the type of gun that it is. I haven't shot it yet because I am lazy but it is a good looking gun and I did load the mags with 25 rounds but I have a loader coming tomorrow. great video. Thanks.
I carry mine in an Urban Carry G3 holster. It is wonderful in such!
Yeah. The learning curve is strong on the PMR30. But for those who persevere a great reward awaits.
There is a speed loader available aftermarket to solve the reloading problem. Bought one have never had a problem since.
Yeah. I really need a better speed loader for this thing. What brand did you get?
@@MaxHeadspace9mm MAGLULA
You might want to also replace the feed ramp with aftermarket stainless.Makes it more reliable.

I have a MagLula for my 9mm mags and I love it. I didn’t know they made one for this.
Thanks!
I carry a PMR30 Super weapon, light and love the high capacity
In these troubling times a 30 round capacity doesn’t seem so outlandish any more🤔
I am old and don't have a lot of strength in my hands so a loader would be a necessity about halfway thru.
David Martin
Yeah. Once you work out loading the mag it’s natural and easy. Just different than other mags. Lots of unusual details with this gun. But getting them right makes all the difference.
I'm able to consistently run 31 (yes 31) thru each clip..... Here is proof, and no one could not have been in the chamber as the clip was on and watch as I rack it, if one was in the chamber the 1st rond in the clip would have bound up behind the chambered round........ my pmr i just bought has been totally reliable so far, weight, sights and trigger are great along with price, love it

@@MaxHeadspace9mm supdate, had 1 glitch,i think i round of 22 mag had to much powder,it went off and lots of smoke coming out of every where, blew off the slide release, couldnt find it ,bought a new one from kel-tec $8 shipped not bad but now the new one after shooting a few rounds its working loose and gun quits operating, but just push it back on is ok,i see MCARBO has an upgrade, besides this glitch gun still runs great,

What brand of ammo were you using if you don’t mind me asking ?
Didn,t catch the name of the manufacturer of the holster for your Keltech 22 mag. Can you send me that name again ? Thanks...
i’ve never had any problems with mine unless i didn’t follow “the rules” !! 8 years and nothing but fun & reliability ❤️ my PMR30
Great info. Thank you for all of the tips on this one. It's on my short list and i look forward to shooting it.
It will wait for you. It was on my short list for four years before I took the plunge!
WHAT IS the name of the holster.
