I'm in my 40s, here what worked for me: collagen powder every day, retinoid, try to lose weight slowly to avoid skin sagginess, eat healthy and avoid food that increase inflammation, not wearing makeup all the time, avoid the sun, be happy and avoid tension and stress.

I'm not 40 yet but I love your channel ❤️ I'm here for the education you bring Marlena Greatly appreciated! since turning 34 I can't just wear anything like before ❤😊
@@NewYorkGirl88agreed, I’m 47 and wish I could tell my 30 year old self some things including tret & daily sunblock. It’s not bad without but could be better!
Speaking of powder needing to be used in little amounts as you age, that L’Oréal True Match Super Blendable powder is as good as all the high end holy grail viral trendy powders at 1/4 the price. I am shocked this hasn’t been used more on the beauty channels. I absolutely love the Rimmel Stay Matte because it does not look or feel heavy, show as powder no matter the amount you use, but this L’Oréal provides a little more coverage, without looking like you’ve powdered and it also helps blur and give a smooth appearance to the skin so you look airbrushed. The square compact is the one I’m talking about, not the circular one. If you’ve not yet tried it, I highly recommend grabbing one, and the shade range isn’t too shabby either.
It is because of you that I want to wear makeup more often! I struggle with health issues, so I can go weeks without wearing any makeup, but I have stepped up my skincare game a lot. One step I do add after I apply primer, foundation and concealer is adding setting spray before powder. I let it dry completely, then use the tiniest amount of powder!
I love pulling color into a neutral eye by using a shadow or eyeliner pencil smoked out as a liner. It doesn’t overwhelm the look you have, but it gives that pop, defines the eyes a lot more and brings out the eye color making the eye look way less boring. It’s so easy to do, quick, fun, yet it makes such a big difference.
Such a beautiful person you are inside and out. You have been my go to influencer/ beauty consultant that I watch continuously. Thank you for all you do
Marlena was my first makeup guru on YT .... many , many years ago - I don't even know - 12 years ago ? :))) I learned so much , found out I had hooded eyes , bought my first brush , etc. :D Still amazing lessons !
Such a great instructional video with practical tips and easy to follow steps. Thank you! I turn 57 this week and am feeling every bit of it. This gives me a fresh take on a realistic look to stay current yet age appropriate.
Found your videos in my very early 30s and I am now in my mid forties. Always have loved your content. You taught me how to blend eyeshadow. My favorite was learning how to wear a bright eyeshadow look without looking totally crazy by blending it out with a neutral color in the crease. I use your teaching every single day. Thank you.
My humble suggestion is use a gentle liquid exfoliant after cleansing at night, then allow it to absorb into your skin and apply a retinol cream on top. This will sleuth off any dry patches in your skin. I'm currently using Good Molecules overnight exfoliating treatment formulated with AHA + BHA ( I would use it like a Monday, Thursday and Sunday in that sequence because it's super gentle. Caveat if you just shaved your face wait 24 to 48 hrs before using actives. After the liquid exfoliant I put on MARÉE Collagen and Retinol deep moisturizer on top or you could sandwich it with some ELF Holy Hydration cream. Skin prep is everything, at night and in the morning and last but not least sunscreen is a must. I like Haru Haru chemical sunscreen and Misha Sun milk with the pink Cap and both are SPF 50. Also you can boost your Sunscreen with vitamin C. I like Goodal Green Tangerine Vitamin C Dark spot serum before applying sunscreen. Edited: I use Haru Haru chemical sunscreen all over my face after applying Vitamin C and then apply Misha Sun Milk sunscreen in my T-zone as a primer and it blurs my pores.
FINALLY someone is mentioning Diorshow mascara!! I never see anyone talking about it! Thank you Marlena! I've been using it for the last 15+ years and even though I've found it to be a really good mascara, the fact no one talks about has been making me question whether it's best to switch to something like the Rare Beauty. I need a new mascara asap so I'll see which way I decide to go.
What a beautiful eye look, Marlena. I love the subtle pop of blue on the upper lash line! I have a request for future tutorials: when you tell us what brushes you're using, could you mention the Makeup Geek equivalent? I understand why you refrain from using MG products now, but for those of us who still love and use our MG products and brushes, it would be so helpful 😊
I am home feeling unwell and a bit flat and just watched this fabulous video... thank you so much Marlena, loved every second of it, you fabulous woman!
Wow! Thank you! I am a certified makeup artist, but I never knew about the consistency of the foundation and what to use to apply it with (a brush, sponge, etc).
I appreciate you giving information to those of us in our better years. I'm guessing you're not really there yet, but I would love a video of your tips for dealing with menopause symptoms as it pertains to makeup. Waterproof or sweatproof makeup for hot flashes, makeup to disguise thinning hairline, lip thinning, everything feeling uncomfortable, etc.
Dear Marlena, thank you so much for putting your attention towards women who are not that young anymore! 🌹 What I have noticed is the less product I use, the better it works for me. If I just do a second layer of foundation under my eyes, it looks almost invisible while adding a layer of concealer makes my fine lines look really pronounced. I have a question, please. In the morning do you cleanse your skin (with micellar water, for example) or do you just start with a primer? And another one, please: when (if at all) do you apply your sunscreen? Before your primer? Instead of your primer? Please kindly advise.
Great video, I have just turned 41 and have oily skin. My favorite foundation is the profiltr soft matte foundation of Fenty’s. I think that the double wear has a bit heavier texture, I personally prefer very lightweight foundations.

I too picked up those Sephora lipsticks and I absolutely love them👏👏👏👏 Picked up a couple during the spring sale at 30% off …. They are fantastic and they feel like butter.! It was my first time using/purchasing a Sephora make up product and I could not have been happier . I went back in and purchased some of the lip liners and they too are wonderful ❤️… I buy the gel liners. I haven’t tried the other ones. I always do liquid and creams before any powder is applied. I’m 59 and have normal skin and am a little crepe under my eyes-I powder lightly every where but under my eyes.
Wonderful and educational video! Thank you for sharing these tips & tricks with us. Would you be able to do a video or respond to this with what you use for skin prep before makeup (what products you use, why, how long do you let it sit before starting with your primer, and SPF recommendations that look good under makeup and not cakey or pill under makeup, etc.)?? I know it’s a very important part of having good makeup days but I don’t know what to use, what order to use them in, how long to wait afterwards before putting on makeup, and all of those steps/information. Please & thank you. It would be greatly appreciated and I’m sure others would also love to know this information!! Thank you!
I needed this today! I’ve been applying my Armani foundation with my beauty blender and sometimes it does look patchy. I can’t wait to try a stipppling brush. Thank you!
My face, and consequently, my makeup, didn't change until my early 60s, lucky genes as my mum looked like she was half her age until her 70s, when she, devastatingly died from pancreatic cancer. I am 66 as of the 2nd week of July, and I'm finding g changes now. I follow your tips because they make sense now that I have to consider my under eye region and use a dewier foundation. You have had the best tips and, after seeing her with you, I also follow Nikki Larose as she's got great tips too, especially as to how to apply cream products properly as they are so much more flattering on more mature skin. I have never used fillers, botox and, due to a bad, horse related break, in my nose, I did have a medical septo-rhinoplasty for sleep apnoea. It straightened my nose, no doubt, but wasn't by a plastic surgeon, rather an ear, nose and throat surgeon, on the NHS. I sleep on my back and believe the position you sleep in to be one of the most important factors in reducing lines. Especially naso-labial lines, if, for some reason, like going out for a drink with friends, I do fall asleep on my side, the lines appear like magic (bad magic)! I think sleeping on your back, using a factor 50j sunscreen and generally trying to avoid sitting around in the sun without a hat or shade. I am notoriously bad at keeping up skincare routines bit do use retinol, the occasional peel, and polyglutemic acid or glycerine when I do. I always apply the H.A. and P.G.A. to damp skin and cover with a moisturiser (Nivea or generic aqueous cream) to prevent evaporation. You look great Marlena and, with your lovely skin and great bone structure, I am sure you will continue looking young for decades to come ❤
I turned 46 on Friday (6/21) and am proud to say that my skin is pretty darn good! I use skin care that includes vitamin C and E, hyaluronic acid and retinoid. I also figured that creams are so much more forgiving than powders!!
Pleaseee Marlena I need to secret to your skin your skin is the most gorgeous I’ve seen! I purchased bioessence lactic serum and their moisturiser as well as the massage LED light thanks to you! Buy what is your secret to plump light skin 😍
okay, seeing you hold up the Maybelline Master Blur Stick had sent me straight to subscribe. I have oily skin and that product is such a go-to & I rarely see it mentioned! (unless I'm missing a Tik Tok trend, which I very well could be)
drinking alcohol ages women fast. I first noticed about 5 yrs ago when I quit for a yr. The before and after pics were pretty hard to look at. its been 3 yrs with no alcohol and my skin, my energy and my decision making processes are better than ever. most of the gals on youtube or in entertainment have a worn out, often swollen look if they drink booze or wine.
Gf I just love your voice. I also enjoy your content. I can listen to you and multitask or I can watch you too 😮thanks for being you and having fresh ideas
I am so bummed that I was allergic to the Armani foundation! It is so beautiful, but I am highly allergic to something in it. I switched to the NARS sheer glow & I love it! I love the Lancôme la base pro primer, & I also love the Hourglass vanish primer. The Patrick Star & Givenchy Prism loose powders are amazing, & I love the Charlotte Tilbury & Patrick Star setting sprays. I was surprised at how much I love the Mally Face Defender setting … I guess it’s a gel?! Whatever it is, it works amazing at setting makeup & making it last ALL DAY! The Mally Face Defender worked amazing once I figured out how to use it! A very little bit goes a LONG way!
I am 26 & when I put makeup on without skincare/prep before, my eyes/skin look tired… 😅 Definitely skincare before makeup makes a huge difference! I also look tired when I don’t have falsies on 🥲😫 Need a serum to have my natural straight lashes grow
Nice to see you are still making videos ... Checking an old account of mine which i dont have access to anymore but can still see what i was subscribed to back then ... That must have been 15 / 16 years ago ... I guess i will subscribe again all those years later. You are still looking great btw ☺
Love that Maybelline blur stick, the Nyx Lift and Snatch brow pen and the Nyx Brow Glue. I also have that ND concealer. I dont wear foundation. Any recommendations for skin tints/serums? Thanks! ❤❤
Did u end up using a different eyeshadow? The pan color looked light taupe/tan color but on brush and your eye, it came out more orange? Absolutely loved this tutorial and can’t wait to try some of these tips ❤
Ive never exfoliated my face, or anything for that matter 😂Any suggestions for SUPER sensitive skin? Preferably no fragrance and as natural as possible? I think I might also have a little rosacea, so literally anytime I try new products I’m terrified that it’ll give me a chemical burn😩 *So, I don’t try anything new very often. My current routine is: Wash my face with cool water, wash cloth, and Ponds makeup remover cold cream. Then I use Elf Liquid Poreless Primer, followed by It Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness cream and Your Skin But Better+Skincare.
I follow doctorly on here. They recommend a face wash by avenoo or Cetaphil. The Cetaphil brand is around $20. They also recommend only doing it starting out around 2x per week.
Also, I can't believe you are able to use elf products, my sensitive itchy skin can not tolerate elf products. I also read last night that clinique is one of the best brands for sensitive skin
I'm with you. I have sensitive skin and rosacea and I didn't know what to use to exfoliate. Kassandra Bankson suggested using the ordinary's mandelic acid and that has made such a difference in my skin without any aggravation.
I use Eucerin face wash and moisturizer. They discontinued the one I was using for years but their new one doesn’t irritate my skin either. I just started exfoliating because I’m so sensitive ugh. I use Cetaphil for that. It still burns my face though so I only do it 1-2x a week.
I love you 😍 I've been watching since you first started RUclips 😉 Thank you for reminding me that I'm never going to be to old for makeup, I've always been a makeup and nail girly and now at 46 🙄 I sometimes feel like hey your to old for this and that kind of makeup but you remind me makeup can still look gorgeous with age! If anything my makeup game is BETTER as an older woman than even just 5 yes ago! At this age the more luminous and natural makeup is actually sexy 😉 So thanks for these kinds of videos they are definitely my favorite ❤
Hi Marlena. I have been watching your videos for a while now & they are great. I have a quick question for you-you used to rave a lot about the Lancôme Teint Idole UltraWear foundation. I was thinking of trying it but then read it was reformulated approx. 1 year ago. Do you still love it? And if I remember correctly you have dry skin, correct? I normally would not buy a matte complexion product because I have dry skin but I trust your opinion on these things. It might be nice to have a foundation that is not so glowy for a change. I am good at skincare prep & could use glowy primer too. Please let me know your thoughts on the reformulated version when you can. Thanks!
I use a eyebrow pencil with a eyebrow powder!! Great results!! Learned from Robert Jones Books!! Along with many anti-aging and beautiful make-up techniques!!!
Dior Forever Matte is my holy grail for my oily skin. It FAR surpasses Estee Lauder, that I've used for around 15 years steadily. EL can get cakey. Dior does not, ever. The finish is so much better. It is not as thick as EL and never gets cakey or weird during the day with oily skin.
Marlena, can you talk about powder foundation? I have struggled finding the "correct" shade in liquid foundation and have found the best color match in the powder.
That contour isn’t blending well and is more patchy and harsh because you laid that powder down first. I’d powder after all the liquid and creams or you will end up having to go back over it after applying a facial mist or going back over it with a beauty sponge. Save yourself the hassle and just wait to powder your face. Even if you don’t think you’ve powdered the area you are adding liquid or cream products to, it will have some in areas and lock down the liquid or cream before you even get a good chance to blend it all out perfectly. It never hurts to wait to powder.
I agree. Contour and blush. Powder hangs on to the cream more in some areas making it harder to disperse and blend. That is why pros have always said use powder products last. Ever since Patrick Tah came out with the blush duos, and recommended using the cream after the powder blush, people have thought that works for every formula. Blame Patrick😂
nearing 50 here. my skin is usually normal when i'm not in humid environments, but i work with patients everyday when they do their showers and i end up sweating so much that my makeup just disappears. should i follow the rules for matte for both skincare and makeup when i'm doing showers?
You look younger before which is natural. We all look older, myself included. But the makeup that was on trend dated a lot of us. The heavy foundation and so much eyeshadow made me look older than I was at that age. I like the idea of a perfected base, without it being so obvious that I am wearing foundation if that makes sense.
I don’t ever think lining the eyes makes them look bigger. You saw a noticeable difference after lining one upper and lower ve the other even with just the top lined and the upper and lower lined one looked very much smaller and not as opened.
I'm in my 40s, here what worked for me: collagen powder every day, retinoid, try to lose weight slowly to avoid skin sagginess, eat healthy and avoid food that increase inflammation, not wearing makeup all the time, avoid the sun, be happy and avoid tension and stress.

What lash curler do you prefer?
I am 26 & when I put makeup on without skincare/prep before, my eyes/skin look tired… 😅 Definitely skincare before makeup makes a huge difference! I also look tired when I don’t have falsies on 🥲😫 Need a serum to have my natural straight lashes grow
So pretty!
Marlena, I love your videos and tutorials 😘
Nice to see you are still making videos ... Checking an old account of mine which i dont have access to anymore but can still see what i was subscribed to back then ... That must have been 15 / 16 years ago ... I guess i will subscribe again all those years later. You are still looking great btw ☺
Love that Maybelline blur stick, the Nyx Lift and Snatch brow pen and the Nyx Brow Glue. I also have that ND concealer. I dont wear foundation. Any recommendations for skin tints/serums? Thanks! ❤❤
The Maybelline super stay skin tint is great.
Did u end up using a different eyeshadow? The pan color looked light taupe/tan color but on brush and your eye, it came out more orange? Absolutely loved this tutorial and can’t wait to try some of these tips ❤
Love this type of video
@@DMoz13I’m going to try that out
I love you 😍 I've been watching since you first started RUclips 😉 Thank you for reminding me that I'm never going to be to old for makeup, I've always been a makeup and nail girly and now at 46 🙄 I sometimes feel like hey your to old for this and that kind of makeup but you remind me makeup can still look gorgeous with age! If anything my makeup game is BETTER as an older woman than even just 5 yes ago! At this age the more luminous and natural makeup is actually sexy 😉 So thanks for these kinds of videos they are definitely my favorite ❤
Hey Marlena, do you wear sunscreen under your foundation? If so could you recommend a good one? Thank you for your videos content, amazing! x
Love this video thanks for all the tips.
Stunning ❤❤❤
You are the master!
Thank you
Dior Forever Matte is my holy grail for my oily skin.
She’s been in the beauty industry for YEARS and created cosmetics, pretty sure she knows what she’s doing
Very informative video I. Thanks!
Hi Marlena😊🌺 what could i use to maybe thin out any foundation if I wanted? even the armani? ty ahead of time for your help 💚🙏🏼🕊
Can you please make a video with tips about applying make up over sunscreen without it peeling off? Thanks you
What should I use to buff out the NARS sheer glow? ❤❤❤❤
A buffing brush. She actually has TikTok’s applying it with a buffing brush. It’s too thin for a bb
@@monicapatton1405thank you🙂
nearing 50 here. my skin is usually normal when i'm not in humid environments, but i work with patients everyday when they do their showers and i end up sweating so much that my makeup just disappears. should i follow the rules for matte for both skincare and makeup when i'm doing showers?
ty❤
Very informative Thank you.
Great video ❤❤❤
You look younger before which is natural. We all look older, myself included. But the makeup that was on trend dated a lot of us. The heavy foundation and so much eyeshadow made me look older than I was at that age. I like the idea of a perfected base, without it being so obvious that I am wearing foundation if that makes sense.
I don’t ever think lining the eyes makes them look bigger. You saw a noticeable difference after lining one upper and lower ve the other even with just the top lined and the upper and lower lined one looked very much smaller and not as opened.
I just turned 49 and love your videos 📹. Thank you
