a lot of babies with cows milk allergy also react to soy... so if they can't have either, then how can we give them the nutrients they need? what can we give them to replace it
Whole milk is a good place to begin - it's higher in calories and a good source of protein. If cow's milk isn't tolerated, soy milk is a nice alternative with similar nutrition.
My baby is 17 months old and has suffered constipation since she turned 1 when we switched her over to cow milk. For the last few weeks, we switched her over to lactose free milk but that hasnt helped at all. Tonight we started giving her Silk organic unsweetened Soy milk. Is there a brand of soy milk that you may recommend?
I've heard some littles struggle a bit more with constipation and dairy - soy (unsweetened) is the closest substitute to cow's milk. I think Silk is fine.
Cows milk is for baby cows. Human milk is for baby humans. Cow's milk has many negatives for humans (intuitively it's totally un-natural), including being a high allergy food and most people around the world are lactose intolerant. Think about it, the biggest, strongest animals on the planet - with the biggest bones and bodies - do not drink cow's milk. Children can and do get calories and protein and calcium - all around the world - from so many other healthy plant sources. A fruit smoothie with coconut milk and/or nut butter will have plenty of fat, calories and protein, at a greater health advantage. Add kale or collards for plenty of calcium - and more bioavailable calcium at that. And without setting up our children for diet related disease later in life. And then of course there are the serious environmental problems with dairy farms, as well as abhorrent animal cruelty - taking baby cows form their mothers at birth. Families around the world are raising children without cow's milk and many of these cultures are far healthier that Americans - who have been brainwashed by the dairy industry - including the dairy industry, profit driven nutrition education in classrooms across America.
My daughter is 14 months old, and we’ve been trying cows milk and it really seems to be hurting her stomach. I’ve been looking into different milks I can give her, and I found Silk protein almond and cashew. It also has pea protein as well. 10 grams or protein, 130 calories, 2 grams of sugar and 450 mg calcium. Would this be a good milk for her? My next try would be ripple milk!
Soy milk has some fat in it which is still needed for brain development at this young age. Some of the plant-based milks have no fat, and that's something I'd avoid. Discuss with your pediatrician. :)
Hello My daughter is almost 3 years old and shes allergic to whole milk .. which milk is better for her soy milk or Almond milk unsweetened it ? Please help me thank you 🙏🏻
Soy has more protein and similar calcium and Vit D to regular milk. Almond doesn't have much protein, so if you go with that, you'll want to make sure she's eating other protein-containing foods (I"ve got a new video coming about this topic!)
My son is one and I’m struggling on what milk to start giving him. I’m stuck between Ripple kids and horizon whole, or horizon growing years. Any specific brand or type you recommend? My other son is 4 and drinks lactaid fat free or 2%. I was hoping to find one they both can drink. Please help me !
My grandson is 1 1/2 can not have soy, milk, eggs, so what milk do you reccomend. He is drinking ripple milk but I see him breaking out, but not as much as milk. He also has eczema and asthma
Hi. Did your son grow well from ripple milk is he at the height like his peers that drink cows milk? My son is 2 and he is picky I used to give him ripple he doesn’t like it
The main issue I have with almond milk in toddlers is that it's low in protein and fat which are needed and very important at this age...BUT...as long as a toddler is eating other foods rich in protein and fat, it may be okay.
"toddler" milk isn't really necessary - I did a podcast episode on this with a researcher who's done a lot of investigation around the toddler milk market and marketing to parents. You can listen to it here: thenourishedchild.com/toddler-milk/
It’s amazing for my 1 year old who is still not eating solids very well. It’s a great supplement for those toddlers who aren’t eating enough solids throughout the day.
Hi, your video are helpful n thanks to sharing. Im from Vietnam and my lil man is 6 years old. Im start wondering should i change him from whole milk to walnut milk or almond milk ? Pls give me advice thx.
Hi Lily - Thanks for watching the video. If your son is getting good sources of nutrition, especially protein, from other foods, then he shoud be ok to switch to other plant-based milks.
Hello Madam, my baby is turning to 3 years, she got appropriate weight gain according to the age, do i need to give whole milk or 2% milk is enough for her?please reply
We stopped giving our kids 2 year old and one year old whole milk. We give them 1% milk. Problem with my two year old boy is that he's getting growing pains :( in his knees. Is it due to the change of milk?
In a toddler with knee pain, I would mention this to your doctor. Have you considered 2% milk? A little more fat and helps with vitamin D absorption and bone hardening...
@JillCastle we have mentioned it to his doctor but all he said was its normal It's growing pains. We switched back to whole milk since he's skinny. We shall see if it helps a Lil
Hi, I wanted to switch to powder organic whole milk (Horizon) will that be okay ? I read the nutrients and does show to have a bit more nutrition than regular whole milk. It’s just easier to take on the go if needed.
Can you make a video for overweight toddlers. My about to be 2 year old boy is overweight and it’s scares me that he will have trouble when he grows up
I'm working on a book right now about this topic. Meanwhile, I have resources on my website, The Nourished Child (.com) and a workshop that is a good place to start (thenourishedchild.com/our-nutrition-workshops/)
Hello mam I m from India my child is get 1yr old this month of December he is suffering from constipation I m giving him buffalo milk ...can u plz suggest me anything that helps to relieve constipation...it is due to milk even apple a day not helping....
Lactose whole milk I changed his milk from whole milk to lactose because he was on soy milk having a problem to use the bathroom now I don’t know if the milk is bothering him need help with this please let me know
My 2 year old son is lactose intolerant recently been told this , but he’s an activate child on the skimmer side so calories are extremely important , I have been told soya milk is the best Alternative to cows milk, however is this the best option for long term use ?
Thank you I was feeling so guilty for giving cow milk to my toddlers. What are your opinions on goat milk? I am currently doing a mixture of both since goat milk is quiet expensive
Generally, for babies it's discouraged because the nutrients aren't at the right level for a baby. I think if your child is eating well and getting a variety of foods, it should be ok. Always check in with your doctor if you're not sure, as that healthcare provider will know more about your child than me! :)
All milk is checked for antibiotics before it goes to market. If found, the milk is thrown out. This is from MN but it’s federal law for all states. www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/antibioticresistance/animal/truthmilk.pdf
I don’t trust the federal law. Why do they also allow red 40, yellow 5, aspartame, high fructose syrup, taurine, bromintaed vegetable oil. FDA allows 750 million pus cells in every litre of milk
My son loves oat milk than any other milk. Especially when I stopped breastfeeding him (age 2 and a half 😬) he drinks cow's milk too but not so much. Unless I give him chocolate flavor. Then he drinks a bit more of cow's milk.
The most important thing is to make sure the plant milk is fortified and you shake it up :) The other foods in his diet will offer additional nutrition.
Goat milk is said to be easier on the digestive system, but you'll want to look at the whole picture (macronutrients/protein, micros like calcium, vitamin D, A). :)
Really informative video! My son is almost 1 and I plan to continue breastfeeding through to 2 years. I give him vitamin d drops and he gets other sources of dairy (yogurt and cottage cheese). I’d love to know your opinion on breast milk during the early toddler years 😊
Glad someone said it! The acid removes the calcium from our bones. Increases risk of certain cancers by 30%. And all the cows natural hormones from just having a baby are now in your child. Please use alternatives!!
@@MissNaniPooadult humans. Breast milk is for babies. Adults don’t need milk, including breast milk. We get calcium and vitamin D from sunlight, leafy vegetables and other solids. Most adults don’t have the enzymes to digest lactose, which is why they’re lactose intolerant.

Hey !
My baby is 14 months old, what milk would you suggest I give him a2 or organic or organic grass fed milk ??
Full fat is a priority too. Organic is great if it's within your budget, but conventional is fine too.
@@JillCastle thank you so much
What milk do you suggest for my 4 years and 1 year old kids.
They are thin and small.
Whole milk is a good place to begin - it's higher in calories and a good source of protein. If cow's milk isn't tolerated, soy milk is a nice alternative with similar nutrition.

A good substitute is your child can’t have cows milk or you want to follow plant based.
I am giving creamline cows milk. Is that good for 1 year old?

Yes, but you could also try Fairlife (lactose free), or a milk substitute like soy.
