My son is just one year old. And he enjoys more of milk, anything juicy and don't eat rice or anything is not crunchy. Can you give suggestions on how to routine the right kind of food?
Thank you madam: 🙂 Do's: 1. Trust the toddlers Barometer 2. Feed them 3 meals + 3 snacks per day 3. Make sure to Give them variety of foods. 4. Keep things pleasant and be positive. 5. Let them be independent with eating. Don't do 1. Do not interfere 2. Don't get upset and show them ur anger
I've watched every one of these picky eating videos and not one of them actually addresses picky eating. When my 2 year old pushes his tray away and states he's all done and then has a tantrum in front of the fridge until he gets chicken nuggets again, that is the reality of picky eating. My son will start screaming if he even sees me getting something he doesn't want out of the fridge.
I believe all my videos on picky eating address the variety of aspects that a parent can encounter with their child. Tantrumming is a more extreme reaction/ behavior - I imagine you feel pretty stuck. Have you considered talking with a professional about this?
When you give him chicken nuggets after he throws a tantrum you are telling him “when you throw a fit you get what you want, so you don’t have to eat what I ask you to eat.” That’s a you problem. Stop giving in
My toddler used to eat everything I give him and I was breastfeeding him at the same time as snacks, then I stopped breastfeeding him 6 months ago and since then he just eats bread, rice, yogurt, and cucumbers, and 2 kind of fruits every single day. What can I do to enhance this situation? He is not 2 years and 3 months old. Thank you
Hello Jill, thank you for this video. Apparently , as parents, we are screwing up left and right. Definitely doing all the "No's". Ah... The main struggle with us is the restrictive eating. She only eats 4 things. No matter the variations of foods that we give her that include those 4 things, she sticks to the same old. Sometimes she might even refuse that. Eating has become... this awful chore for everyone, and I feel so guilty! 😟
Been there, stepson would only ever eat three things at one time, usually when he got tired of one thing he would replace it with something else but not always. There were times when we were down to one acceptable food item and he was looking like he was getting fed up with it too. It was horrible, stressful, he would not “eat when he’s hungry” he was so skinny that his height and weight were the same number. I constantly worried and told his biological parent we needed to do something about this, get help, but they refused so I researched the heck out of it and tried the best I could. I wish I had better advice but the only thing that helped us was introducing simple flavors, brat diet staples: peanut butter, white bread, bananas, vanilla wafers, pasta. Tomato flavored things like spaghetti and pizza usually went well. But keep it simple, lasagna was too complicated and intimidating. Eventually when he got old enough and it wasn’t any better I took him to the doctor so we could address his eating issues with a professional and he hated doctors so much that he started to try new things a little more often so he wouldn’t have to go back. He’s still a picky eater but just like a normal picky eater, not eating disorder level. Oh and feed them junk if you have to and feel zero guilt. No one gets how horrible it is when your kid just won’t eat and they’re crying because they’re so hungry. Give them pop tarts, cereal, cheese it’s, whatever it takes.
Thank you for sharing! My toddler (1 year 10 months) when does not eat she breastfeeds a lot and I do not want that any longer, I prefer her eating food. And she is a picky eater, when she is hungry she keeps asking to be breastfed. This makes me needing to feed my tolder myself. What could be the solution?
We are trying to be hands-off with our 12-month-old who is going through a BIG food refusal phase but meal time often ends with absolutely no food eaten. This is all through the day Breakfast, snacks and dinner. It's so stressful. Do we really just let him not eat anything?
I imagine that's very stressful. If your babe is not eating - even though you're offering several times a day, formula/breastmilk/milk + food - then I would be worried about the risk for dehydration. It's normal for young children to vary their intake but if your child isn't eating anything for more than a day, I would go to the pediatrician.
That makes sense why I’ve noticed that they eat much less during dinner .. tbh they’ve seen me very frustrated 😢and I had no idea I’ve been falling prey to them 🤦♀️ 😂 I will try to stay cool as a 🥒
hello Jill, my son just turned 3 in Nov, he used to eat by himself and he loves eating but after he had the flu two weeks ago, now he doesn't want to eat and always wanted us to feed him. he is not eating in school too, he used to eat everything. I don't know what to do now because I know I don't want to force him but he is not chubby boy to begin with and his doctor always complain about his weight.
Sometimes kids need a little more time after an illness. I would support him, but also encourage him to help you in the kitchen and keep food and eating light and enjoyable. He may be picking up on your stress...
Hello Jill, i really got a gud information from ur video, thankyu for dat, my 2 yr old boy is not at all eating from last 20 days, he weighs only 10 kgs,m really worried,i even had been to pediatrician,he said he z doin well n active not to b worry, but still i dont knw how to overcome
It's good you brought it up with your doctor - if they aren't worried, that's a good sign. Often, little kids eat little portions and we adults might think they're not eating enough but as long as you provide 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day with a variety of food, your little one should be able to regulate their eating amounts.
Hi! I have a 3 year old son who unfortunately watched his father choke on a bigger piece of ice and pass out. I am a first responder so keeping calm and all of that was not an issue got dad back to normal in seconds but toddler watched everything and it didn't seem to phase him but the very next day while we were out with his grandma for lunch she got a piece of chicken stuck in her throat and he witnessed that whole scene. Also didn't seem to phase him until about 2 weeks later now he refuses to eat bc he's afraid to choke. I try to keep everything positive and upbeat as well as explain what happened and that we don't need to worry about him choking on food etc. I'm worried he's gotten sick with a cold from daycare on top of not wanting to eat but without proper nutrition I'm worried dehydration or malnutrition may be next. Any ideas?
It sounds like your son may have been traumatized by witnessing something very scary. I would reassure your son that he's safe, sit with him while he eats so he knows you're there, and with a cold, just offer foods that are easy for him to eat. If they Not eating part keeps going on, then I would seek out further support from a feeding therapist or play therapist who can address the trauma.
Thank you for a bit more peace of mind. With my toddlers eating. My bb is 13 months and I've gotten into the habit of feeding her on the go because when we sit at the table and I let her do it the food is just thrown on the floor. I dont want to feed her myself but if she has thrown all the food on the floor do I just take that as she's done?
My daughter just turned 1. I have been trying baby led weaning since a long time now, but she is not interested. She doesn't touch any eatables, no steamed vegetable no fruit nothing. She just poke them and sit without eating anything. She would start crying after sometime and expect me to feed her. Even if she is hungry she doesn't show any interest in food. How can I make her eat on her own or take some interest in food?? I feel she is more interested in play or just running around except food.
Some children are more interested in the world around them and it's hard for them to sit and eat. This is why having meals and snack times on a regular schedule. It allows you to announce "It's time for breakfast, lunch, snack, etc and we need to stop what we're doing and sit. We can get back to playing or XYZ after meal time." Also, it's ok if your baby doesn't want to BLW - it's not for every kiddo. And it's okay to spoon feed and help your child if they need it. What you don't want to do is make your child reliant on you, or force them to eat because then it becomes negative and can lead to more disinterest/poor eating.
By daughter will soon turn two and she still doesn’t want to take anything food. She still wants to take just her formula milk. All my efforts in making her eat food seems to be in vain since she only prefers formula feed what do I do?
Wait, so my toddler he is over 2 years old now -- but he has been picky ever since we started giving him solids basically since 1 its been really hard to find things he will eat, should that be a worry ?
Be careful with that, we ended up in the emergency room with iron deficiency anemia, and they said it was from too much milk. He needed blood transfusions
Very helpful ❤ thanks alot My daughter 18 month breastfed refuse drinking anything other than water not even sweetened juices , chocolate milkshake , I'm going to stop breast feeding and she still refuse drinking milk , can you help please
Hi Jill. My daughter is 2 1/2 and has no interest in eating food/healthy food. She only wants to eat oatmeal, yogurt, milk. She sometimes asks for juice and I try to water it down. She sometimes eats cheese strings. I notice she likes crunchy food like crackers, chips (I try my best to not give her junk food at all unless it’s a child’s birthday party) my daughter doesn’t want to eat pasta, rice, chicken, meat, fish, fruits or vegetables. And if she wants to eat anything she only likes purées. She’s almost 3 and she’s been like this since she was 1. She’s not getting at nutrients. I tried to give her smoothies with fruits and veggies and she won’t drink it. I don’t know what to do. I made an appointment to see a dietitian and nutritionist but I don’t see how they will get her to eat. Thanks.
We are pretty much in the exact same boat only mines is a boy. 3 end of Feb 2024. Extremely fussy wont eat fruit or veg. Only meat he sometimes eats is sausages and chicken (breaded) but that is really hit and miss. He barely eats anything at creche full days I'm constantly fretting.
This video came just on time, thank you so much 😊 Can you please give me an advice on how do I get him off his bottle He is 2 years old and still cry for the bottle, and I can’t help but to give it to him because I am always worried he might get malnourished 🥲
This is not uncommon - drinking is a lot easier and less time consuming than eating. Sometimes when toddlers don't want to eat, it's a sign that it may be more difficult for them. That said, I'd keep serving food and delay offering milk until the end of the meal.
What worries you the most about your toddler's eating?
My son is just one year old. And he enjoys more of milk, anything juicy and don't eat rice or anything is not crunchy.
Can you give suggestions on how to routine the right kind of food?
He is a premium trying to have him to gain 2 years old

@JillCastle every professional I've been to shrugs it off and tells me it's normal

Many will stop eating long before their nutritional requirements are met. I have to keep insisting mine to eat.

Can a 16 /17 months toddler eat ice cream?
Do we have any chart on this when they can eat less in ages
This video came just on time, thank you so much 😊
Can you please give me an advice on how do I get him off his bottle
He is 2 years old and still cry for the bottle, and I can’t help but to give it to him because I am always worried he might get malnourished 🥲
It's a process. Work on getting rid of one bottle at a time - usually you can start with bottles at mealtime and sub in an open top cup.
rahnks for the video
What happens when your child of 1 year old doesn't want to eat food anymore they only want his milk?
This is not uncommon - drinking is a lot easier and less time consuming than eating. Sometimes when toddlers don't want to eat, it's a sign that it may be more difficult for them. That said, I'd keep serving food and delay offering milk until the end of the meal.
