  • This is my story about my journey to wellness with fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. These are things that worked for me and may not necessarily work for everyone. I will always have arthritis and fibro, but I am living with these life-long chronic pain conditions in a much healthier way now. I hope some of the things I am trying and doing every day might help you as well, which is why I chose to share my story.

Your story is inspiring. I’m 66 years old. I clean and organize as a living. I started this after retirement. For 15 years I was a fitness instructor while I worked as a manager for a large chain grocery store. When I turned 50 I started having terrible back pain. Fibromyalgia runs in my family, along with arthritis. I’ve pushed myself beyond the limits all my life and that has been good and bad points. I’m addicted to sugar too. I’ve struggled with that forever. My weight is normal, but my pain isn’t! Listening to you I realize my pain is minimal compared to yours, but I feel exhausted most of the time. I walk 5 miles a day, because of my large dog and I feel like that is good but after working all day I don’t feel like doing anything else EVER. I live alone so I have to do it all. But you have helped me a great deal with motivation. I need to slow down and forgive myself for not being super human. Thank you for your testimony and taking it step-by-step. God bless you with your health and your inspiring words.

Low pressure systems cause flare ups for me. I have had it since 1992. Were you aware that some studies have shown 80% of Fibromyalgia patients were abused as children? Menopause, back injuries, and lack of sleep over long periods of time are triggers for onset of the syndrome. Lyrica has been my saving grace, but removing myself from all stress is a big key. I cope quite well, but a year’s hibernation has been a challenge.
Btw, you are not speaking mostly to guys. Your audience is primarily women, and some of us have never had nor ever wanted a gender change.🤫🤫

Ohmygosh girl, I feel like you are speaking from my brain. I'm balling as I watch this. I just turned 52. At 40, I was diagnosed with arthritis, and a few years later, I was on a cane. I gained weight from being in so much pain, and was on a depression mode. After the cane came the walker, then the walk-a-round and a wheelchair. I am now unemployed and diagnosed as disabled. My Dr's and my the disability department woman, have told me that my x-rays of my knees are the worse they have ever seen. My knees are bone on bone and the bone has grinded down and almost completely deteriorated. They want to do knee surgery, but one knee won't hold up during rehab, so I have been looking into stem cell, if that will work. I feel like I might have fibromyalgia because of the chronic pain and the symptoms you described. I even have pain in my sleep because it wakes me up every hour and a half. I can't stand for more than a minute at one time. I spemd most of my days in bed. I have horrible days and excruciating days. I no longer know what it feels like to be pain free. I have forgotten what it feels like. I used to be a very independent woman, and now I cringe at the thought of getting out of bed and hate to leave the house. Right before Covid19, I started filling out paperwork for the sleeve surgery. I am now the biggest I have ever been in my entire life. I am only 4'9" and a size 4 or 5x, and I need a change. I am going to have to get me a fitbit amd become accountable. I have grandchildren that I can't hardly hang out with anymore like I used to, or play with. Thank you so much for sharing your story. Again, i felt like you were reading a page from my life. God Bless you. Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone!

I have finally understood that food is the main cause of many problems, for instance, sugar, gluten, white foods like potatoes, etc. Being overweight all my life it has been really hard to cut out those foods but God dealt me a hard truth and started having severe joint pain that travels to different joints. NOW it is time to turn things around, cut out those offending foods, get more exercise, better sleep, etc. Praying for you to continue improving your health.

Heather....you are a blessing. I saw this video on your page last night while watching your canning marathon and canning peach jam and knew I needed to watch it. I turned 50 on May 12th (fellow Taurus!!!) and was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease 3 years ago. Everyday is a struggle. I get that "pain hum" you were talking about. I am a candy addict. I could snarf a big bag of gummy fish like no ones business but could care less about food. I will stay up late to make peach jam for hubby because it's his favorite but I won't (or don't) take time to do anything for myself. With PD every day is different. Some days I can do anything other days holding my cup of tea is like an earthquake is going on :-(. I won't get into all the other stuff that it does to my body. You have motivated me and touched my heart. I know that exercise is the BIGGEST thing I can do to help my PD. I just can't seem to make myself my own priority. While I don't drink coffee and I quit smoking cigarettes and alcohol cold turkey 8 years ago, my nutrition is CRAP!!! My physical activity is CRAP! Today I'm going to change that. I will make myself do that yoga, I will NOT eat that bag of gummy fish in my bureau drawer. I'm going to do my darndest to take care of ME. Because if I don't....who will? I have a 10 month old preemie grandson that we have every other weekend and I need to be there for him, and my husband, and my daughter that lives at home. You are my inspiration.... and you look wonderful by the way. God bless!!

I have arthritis in my spine along with scoliosis, sciatica from the scoliosis and everything that goes along with that and abusing my body being a nurse with the lifting etc. I was living off pain pills and shots but I knew I couldn’t keep that up. I started on the Atkins diet which I slowly modified more towards a keto style diet. I dropped sugar, carbs, soft drinks and dropped 12-15 lbs and started on turmeric for inflammation. It worked! I have had a similar experience with arthritis all over my body to the point where I thought I couldn’t work or homestead anymore. Eventually, I was reacting horribly also to medications that had never before affected me negatively. I wasn’t able to take my allergy meds, asthma meds, or blood pressure meds. I was so desperate that I began an anti-inflammatory diet. I started to see a definite difference after 2 weeks and after a month I had lost many symptoms that had been affecting me daily. After 6 weeks, I could even use my allergy medication to prevent an asthma attack without problems. Food is the remedy. Sugar and caffeine for sure are triggers for me too, and I regret it every time I slip even a little so I rarely slip. Doctors will not tell you to change your diet and mine just kept wanting to change my medications. Now, I don’t have joint pains, headaches, heart racing or fluttering. I have lost weight without trying and I feel so much better! What you eat and don’t eat and the quality of it matters!!!!!!
    Thank you for sharing!

Oh Heather I’m so sorry!!!! I also have Fibromyalgia. You are the first person I’ve heard explain how I feel. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in my late twenties. My children were young and just like you I felt like I wasn’t able to be the mom and wife I needed to be. I’m now 72 and have lived with horrible pain and have tried everything. I didn’t know better, so I had tons of cortisone injections into all my joints. I remember having to crawl to the restroom many times. Today I’m laying in bed because I had a procedure yesterday preparing for knee replacement. When I recover from it, I need hip replacement, and then the other knee. Oh how I wish I would have done as you and given my body what it needed instead of all the cortisone that has now destroyed all of my joints. Enough of my problems!!! I love you and have followed you for a long time. I love your videos. I prayed for you and your family when the drunk guy took your precious husband’s life and hurt you and your children so severely. I’m so sorry!!! I want to thank you for being such a strong woman. You have persevered in so many ways and come through so much. With the Lords help I am trying to do what is better for my body finally. Watching your videos are helping so much and I truly appreciate all you do.
    Love you!💕

I’ve been watching your videos to help out along with prayer and have gotten so much out of them but this one hit home. I have fibro along with spine issues and have had many days as you’ve explained. I also eat like you used to down to the coffee but diet pop. I am miserable and you encouraged me to set off the couch and go get the empty trash can and mail that was at the end of our long country driveway. I’m about to have back surgery and need to do something fast or I will gain even more during the 90 day recovery of not being able to do anything. I’m going to try the shakes and cut out the sugar. Wish me luck and thank you so much for the reminder of holding ourselves accountable.

Oh my goodness this old video has inspired me so much. I was born May 3 and I’m 59. So I can really relate to your story... in my 30 ‘s and 40’s were just like the story you are sharing. Mine was a different path of sugar and flour addiction. In 2018 I found keto and it immediately helped my fibromyalgia. All of the pain soreness tightness and loss of energy was gone. I continue doing well in the 2019 but hit a plateau after losing 65 pounds. I was close to 300 pounds when I started. Then of course 2020 hit and now I’m back up the scale almost 40 pounds. Still being lighter from my original 300 pounds, I have the motivation to restart and your wonderful video came up in my feed. Thank you so much for sharing and reminding me that it’s not just about weight loss or looking better but it’s about my health and feeling better. I have had the same thought that you had that wow at 46 I can barely move what is it gonna be like when I’m 66 I probably won’t even survive to 60. Well here I am at 59 and I am surviving but I could do a lot better. Here’s to a day without sugar and other processed foods. I have a refrigerator full of veggies and good meats and I’m going to be enjoying those today. Thank you, what a blessing to hear your story. Have a blessed day.

Heather you have been my fibro support and inspiration since just before I was officially diagnosed 5 years ago . It was your story video that made me realise what was going on with me. I went to the specialist and they confirmed it.
Since then I have religiously watched your videos and your journey as I struggled with my own.
This video is so truthful and authentic. I used to see your beautifully clean home and think I can’t even get out of bed how does she do it - my house is a bomb site how does her house look so wonderful and then you told your story about receiving Matt’s help and I saw my husband and I each day.
I had to have surgery in Aug 2018 and a side effect has been a loss of 140 pounds. I was hoping for a reduction in pain as well and it has not happened. That being said I have not focused on my nutrician , pushed myself to exercise or even just focused on myself at all.
Once again Heather comes and speaks to me and says “ You can do this, just try “.
So my husband is looking for a2nd hand bike like yours (I can’t sit on a normal exercise bike due to other issues with my spine).
I am googling the shakeology shakes to see if I can afford them and I am going to try what has worked for you as I have been guided by you for so long.
Thank you so much. I can never express how much you have helped me and how extremely grateful and appreciative I am of you.

Heather, I just started canning and have been watching all the video’s but I always come back to you! I just the the person you are, the love, courage, your belief in God…you are a miracle and I pray for your health and family! I too feel like a miracle, my family were told 5 times I wasn’t going to make it out of the hospital and some said I wouldn’t make it through the night. I was in a coma for 28 days and durning that time I had 6 surgeries. The doctor said it would take me a year to walk & talk etc but I shook my head no, I knew my family needed me back and I did twice, three times more than the what I was told. I fell a lot but I got up and did it again. Took me 4 months to walk a short space and I kept setting my sights for making it further etc. I walked our circle of neighborhood at 6 months and started driving shortly after that to go to therapy. I thank God for letting me stay with my family this long and when it’s my time I am ready for my heavenly home. That was about 12 years ago. The pain doesn’t go away but I can deal with it with meds so I thank God and the doctors for that as well. Keep up your fight, you are winning and inspiring others. I watched your prayer circle for the first time today and absolutely loved it, thank you for doing that and allowing us to be there also. Love you sister in Christ!

I have a different condition other than fibromyalgia, but I learned from this video that you have to take control of your life and not let it control you. I was not a subscriber until unfortunately I heard about your horrific family tragedy. It broke my heart and I am praying for you and your family. You should be so proud of yourself and all you have accomplished and know that your husband would not want you to quit when you have come so far. Life sends us horrible circumstance sometimes and we just need to have the faith to keep going, because everything happens for a reason. You hear that all the time, but I know firsthand that it is true. When I look back at my life and everything I have been through to this point I see how all of the pieces were working together towards something. You are another piece of my puzzle and I thank you for it. I have been finding things extremely frustrating and I have been struggling with how am I going to get Beyond this point? How am I going to go from dreaming to living those dreams? It all starts with that first step and that decision to keep trying. Sometimes it takes strategy and alarm clocks and Post-it notes all over the place. But the first step is a first step. After that all you have to worry about is the second, third, fourth...... step, step, step

The more pain your in the less energy and ability you have to walk, and excerise. If the doctors would just emphasize the reality of how much pain can be avoided, we would do everything in our power to loose weight. I had to learn chair and in bed exercises. Cutting your sugar intake is key to calming down the inflammation. If your a sweet addict like I am it will be the hardest thing to do, but the promise of having less pain, can keep you going. Like any food routine change, if you fall off the wagon, just pick up where you left off.
Thank you for this video. It’s a lonely long journey trying to figure out how to get rid of the muscle pain.

I also have Fibro and Osteoarthritis. For years now, I’ve been on meds (Lyrica, etc.), gave up caffeine, and have taken up walking again. I now have 2 herniated discs in my back and neck and am in constant pain.
Thank you for your story, I am going to try it your way and hopefully it works! Will keep you updated! Thanks again!

I am the one! I've been depressed and hopeless, barely able to walk. Almost nothing gets done because the pain is too severe. You have given me the hope to keep going. I've tried so many ways to lose weight, some with great success but I reverted back to old habits. I think I can do this, I have to! Thank you so much for sharing your journey. I know you have reached many of us - we are the ones!

Your testimony gives me hope so thank you for making me feel not so alone. I am trying to do the meals in a jar and have gave up sugar, dairy and anything white to try to loose weight . Down from 245 to 208 and still loosing . I still have days I cheat just a bit. I have never heard anyone be able to put into words what fibromyalgia is like. You said it best. I have been suffering from fibromyalgia and psoriatic arthritis for years. I have gained weight because of the inability to move enough and you know what a vicious cycle that can be. Doctors have been pushing pills to deal with the diseases I have but that's were the treatment ends. I say treat the patient as well as the disease. Thank you for sharing your experience. I know it's not easy to put yourself out there, that couldn't have been easy for you. Thank you for reminding me that I am not alone and I have options.

I love your, “you’re not alone”, because we are so isolated. You’re a wonderful inspiration and I am praying for you’re healing and grief recovery everyday.. God bless you, Heather!❤️🙏💝

I'm am so appreciative that you made this video. I watch many of your video's without commenting but, this one really affected me in a good way. You are so beautiful inside & out & I can see the huge difference in you since you've lost all that weight. I'm a little older than you which is 55 & I quit smoking & hit menopause a little over 2 yrs ago & boy did I start putting on some weight & it still seems to continue. I never had a sweet tooth until then & have pretty much beat my head up against the wall trying to figure out what to replace sweets with when it comes to snacking. I too have problems with my legs where they are always so stiff, it even hurts to walk. I am a 5'9 & weight 285 so, I've got to lose weight. I could use any suggestion if you have any because I seem to be hungry all the time & just want to snack now that I've hit menopause & I need some suggestions. God bless you & thanks.

girl, i am in peri-menopausal hell right now! hahaha I havne't had a cycle now in 4 months. Doc said I have to go a full year. But the cravings and hot flashes are NO JOKE!!!! You can do ANYTHING you set your mind and spirit to. I drink lots of water when Im hungry and feel like munching. Many times, our hunger is actually a sign of dehydration! I never knew that!!!!! But, it works!

I don't have to deal with the hell of fibromyalgia but perimenopause is coming on strong. I didn't know that wanting to eat constantly was another symptom of that.
I feel a stiffness alot and I'm right at that size 20 going on 22 myself.
This is great information for anyone with health issues atleast to keep from getting any worse.
I'm commenting a year or so later and I just saw your video from the hospital yesterday Heather. We are all praying for you and will continue to do so.
      God bless you.

You made the best argument for diet and exercise towards the end of your video; There are so many health issues that may not be cured with diet/exercise but can be managed in your life and give you - your freedom back. To be able to take back control of your life - is life changing! So proud of you and you should be dancing in the streets for what you have accomplished.

Knowing you are dealing with your health now in a different way. I pray you are recuperating. This gives me time to catch up on your older videos. Please get well soon! ❤ from Maine.

I just finished replying to your video about the horrible accident. Again, I'm so so very sorry. May God hold you closely as you and your family heal. I've subscribed. I then set out to see who you guys are. I love this "lost 40 pounds." I'm hoping I'll be able to say that (again!) I have a recumbent bike which has sat here for two years and I finally rode TODAY! I'm sure I'm a sugar addict and you are speaking my language as you describe what you have done and need to continue to do (after healing from that dreadful day.) I am encouraged that I can again get in shape. My hubby wants me around so I need to do my best to take care of the body God has entrusted to me. I just turned 59 last Thursday. I let things go a couple years ago. I'm determined to get back in control. Keeping you and your family in prayer. God bless. Love, Ce Ce. PS. I'm dreading the sugar detox..

I can relate to this video in every way. I suffer from extreme fibromyalgia pain, arthritis and lupus type symptoms. I have stairs in my house and it’s excruciating to walk up and down the stairs. I stay in bed most days. Walking is so painful. I found this video after I came across your hardest video you had to make. My heart broke for you and I cried and cried for you. And knowing that this tragedy and time of faith and healing you will be walking in I will be praying for you often. Especially for your pain levels. I was in a bad car accident a few years ago and since then my fibromyalgia pain has doubled and tripled. I am going to talk with my husband about getting the shakeology to try. I’ve tried just about everything and have been sorely disappointed. I often would dread when friends would try to sell me Their latest health products because I would feel obligated to buy and it normally never worked. I tried acupuncture, chiropractic care, massage therapy, the gym, etc. Your sharing what worked for you I believe because you know what it’s like to hurt so bad. I don’t eat most days I’m like you I under eat because of the pain. I get too nauseous when my pain is high. Also bring too exhausted to fix or cook something. My kids are grown so I don’t cook much except dinner. I drink a cup of coffee in the morning but only put real cream in and no sugar. I do enjoy that warm cup of coffee. I probably won’t give that up. It seems to help me with the stiffness first thing in the morning. I don’t really enjoy sweets. I’m more of a savory or crunchy craving person. But I do drink red wine at night to loosen my stiff and soaring muscles. Thats a huge portion of my sugar. Anyways, I just want to say I appreciate seeing this video. I am praying for you and your precious family. You have a beautiful spirit. God bless you and keep you and carry you through your healing process. 💜

Many doctors won’t diagnose Fibromyalgia. Keep trying to do this. My Rheumatologist is the one who diagnosed me. Giving up sugar and anything white is what had helped me the most.

Just watched this today. You said exactly what fibromyalgia does to your body. I cried as you described your daily struggle and most of us warriors say the same things about the debilitating pain. I needed to hear this today as I'm struggling with depression due to the pain. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. God bless you.
