I would imagine one reason they’re more common than magnaguards is that lower ranking separatists are more likely to be attacked with blasters, whereas Dooku and Greivous needed protection against Jedi lightsabers.
I remember when I was a little kid and first watched the clone wars. the commando droids terrified me. I was so used to the simple robotic movements of the b-1 that the agility the C-droids had was scary.
Yes. I don't know why anyone would even waste resources on the standard battle droid to begin with. Even with sheer numbers I feel like they were probably a waste of money and resources.
I would add annihilators as the tank, because if your tank can't rip through dozens of AT-TEs and the support clones what is the point. The CIS never lost a battle in which the Annihilators took part, and if one showed up the previous objective of the entire army no longer mattered, new orders were to take out the Annihilator even at the cost of losing the whole army. The only problem is that only about a hundred were made.
I'm surprised they aren't really used after the clone wars, they are extremely capable combat units and perfect for a defense force. Plus there mass-producible, while expensive, they still cost less than a normal soldier, much fewer clones or storm troopers (They are actually elite shock infintary, it's just that films/shows like bullying them). You could probably get one for every 2 normal soldier, and 2 for every clone.

The BX-Series Commando Droid is easily my favorite droid type in all of Star Wars. I honestly think if the CIS focused more on making them instead of B1 and B2 battle droids then they would have more victories in the war but with Palpatine's planning he probably wouldn't want that.
BX-Series Commandos were also very expensive. B1 Droids were the cheapest Battle Droids that money could buy, and their primary tactic was to zerg rush.

For droids with what felt like so little screen time, they made a huge impression. They’re definitely the biggest badasses of the Clone Wars. By the way, the detailed breakdown of Echo’s MIA scene really made me appreciate how much better they are than both every other droid in the CIS and the vast majority of organic soldiers. Only an ARC trooper or clone commando could ever hope to match that kind of mobility, quick thinking, and marksmanship.
Being rarer than the other battle droids also allowed them to be consistently badass while still letting the heroes win most of the battles. Whereas even droidekas felt like a diminished threat since they were defeated often enough.
Apologies for the necro, but regular clones are on par with or surpass the abilities of a commando droid. Just because they’re called commando droids doesn’t mean they’re on the level of a clone commando. It is constantly iterated that clones are the best fighting force that has existed since the old republic (possibly better) so each one is an elite unit. Every time we see commandos killing clones, they usually outnumber them and often times do not win the engagement anyway. But they are badass so of course we always focus on the wins, and I do like them more than clones

Yup, i will use them as Main infantry unit if i want to create my own Star War army. I favor Quality over Quantity, and they are cheaper & easier to produce than a Clone trooper ( well, i would like Clone Officer or ARC trooper to lead them )

Because the B-2 had bigger upper-body, bigger arms (& deeper voices) so it's easy to think the Super Battle Droid are lager than those "skinny" clankers. It was how our brain work after all.

From a storytelling standpoint, the commando droids were an amazing way of giving the clones a match in combat to build tension and make the show exciting. B1 droids tend to just be target practice for the clones, only prevailing over them in extreme circumstances or with enormous numerical superiority. B2 droids are more of a threat, but are still not very intelligent and rely mostly on numbers to win. Commando droids were the perfect evil opponent for the clones.
Ah yes that was an amazing and dark arc, definitely recommend that for anybody reading this. And don't worry it isn't to big of a spoiler, seeing how and what he survived is worth watching.

Late to reply, but I’d assume the 2 big digits can split into 4 smaller ones, and the “thumb” can fold from being flat and wide to a more thumb-like shape. Default of the 3 fingered hand configuration probably for ease of use with Standard droid/CIS tech.
You can actually see them lower their weapons when they corner the clone, going from the head to the body. Droids using fear tactics is brilliant, though possibly a bit wasteful.
Thats like worrying about wasting .223 when you got 30mm cannons flying in the sky at 3k rpm. Oh wait, us military does that and gets pissed at infantry for firing a few fun rounds as they love A-10 bursts. When in reality both are great lol
7:20 about fear is an amazing point you referenced. It shows a level of cognitive tactical understanding that goes beyond combat or weapons programs. This is an incredible level of adaptability and foresight by one of the most lethal droids in the universe.
I would say it could be one of the two or both, largely dependant of the BX's circumstances. There could be those who concluded cruelty was an effective tactic to fight against organics through observation, and those who developed that fondness as a result of long operation without memory wipe
Yeah, the BX droids are hella expensive, more so than a B1 as a side effect of having impressive specs. Because of that price, their production was limited and only used when absolutely necessary
@@punctuationman334 well, we have seen Cad Bane taking a contract with the CIS, so those Commando Droids were given to him to either get his services in return or Dooku wanted the Hutt to be free too
TechnoKnight dooku didn’t care about Ziro at this point, Cad was merely hired by the hutts to retrieve Ziro for punishment by the hutt council. It’s possible that these commandos were bought by cad bane specifically for this mission or the hutts got in contact with droid manufactures to purchase commando units to assist cad in his mission. I guess they could have gone the way of many IG assassin droids where they gain independence and take up a career of bounty hunting to. Lots of possible explanations for there appearance in the hostage crisis.
I think the B-X at first used fear as a military tactic and psychology warfare but as time goes on and they develop personalities, with the strain of the war they gradually become more genuinely sadistic in their actions.
Great droid, some pretty neat editing in this. You did forgot about it's Magnetized Legs though. They use it during the citadel escape arc. Magnets on the roof disarm all the clones & Jedi. Then magnetized commandos walk in unaffected. Holding their ground even when force pushed.
yeah that was on the list of details, got the clip, but then it was getting long and I couldn't remember if they were just stuck because of the other device, then got distracted and forgot I was gonna double check lol
How much did a *BX cost compared to a standard B1?* So how many could the CIS get if they _switched over production_ and made the BX the standard model… It's a bit like the Tie Defender argument, yes it's four times the cost of a standard Tie, but it's definitely more effective than four standard Ties and will pay for itself after its first engagement - which it has a lot better chance of winning. It could be that the BX was for fine tuning the *stalemate of the Clone Wars,* which Dooku was to ensure remained evenly matched to further Palpatine's plans. If the GAR pulled ahead, use more BX's, if the CIS looked like it was going to win, cut back production a bit. It also helped that the BX was reasonably effective against Jedi as it was a special forces counter, and killing Jedi was a side goal of the war to make the final purge of Order 66 easier. So? How many BX's could the CIS field if it was the standard droid? Or at least how many could they pump out per month if they went all in for it? Armchair Sith generals need to know…
@Aditya Shivam Parashar Thanks, being trying to find the number, still 200 BX's are a lot more scary and effective than 1000 B1's, especially if it's a confined space instead of open field slugging match (which would be better suited to droidekas and maybe B2's) for which you'd use vehicles (and droid brain vehicles) anyway. And as crew for vehicles, ships and heavy weapons ect they would more than pay for the extra lethality of the expensive system. Having the CIS use BX's instead of B1's would result in them steamrolling the GAR in a few months tops, and they would still have a numbers advantage anyway. But the BX is far more than 5 times as effective.

Given that the rather unimpressive blaster B1 droids carry cost more than the droid itself, I'm guessing the answer is "a lot more expensive". The B1 was ludicrously cheap, far more so than most civilian utility droids.

Yeah B2s are huge. But thankful with enough EMP Grenade even a super is going down. It would be an interesting fight between Republic Commando and BX Commando droids.

(After the Clone Wars) If I came across a downed CIS ship with intact droids inside I would focus on getting those Commando droids reprogrammed and restored for my own uses. I can see a commando droid eliminating an entire squad of stormtroopers.
I was chasing one with a team mate. The commando disappeared around the corner and jumped over him. He killed me in 2 sword strikes and my team mate didn't even know.
I noticed you didn't mention their torsos were magnetized. There were multiple times where a clone shot a BX and just about killed it, but then, it restabelized its torso with the magnets built into the slimmer part of their chest.
I’ve always wondered what was special about those magnagaurds with the yellow markings and yellow electro staffs, do you think you could look into that?
Late reply but I remember that Magnaguards are trained personally by their Leader, so the Yellow Staff ones are simply Dooku's, hence different fighting style and tougher in combat. I could be wrong though
Great video about my favorite droids! My second favorite are vulture droids, I love their design and how they switch from walking to flying and can choose either to be a tank or a fighter. Also how they kamikaze into enemy ships and vehicles when they don't want them to escape or when they have been hit and are falling. Also their droid voice (talking in an uncomprehensible language) and the sound they make while flying.
I believe strongly that the fear tactic was programmed into the BX as a way to win fights morally which allows them to quickly end small skirmishes between Clones and Rebels. The reason I think this is because of almost everything about them apart from the voice, although the droids can change voices, is menacing looking. Their movement, body design, and certain methods used. It's like you said, they easily could've killed that Clone but chose to blast him to a whole new world, this was probably one of the methods adopted into programming "Find the highest ranked person, and brutally kill in front of the rest" Maybe not said or programmed that way but thats basically the jist of it. Just my theory
I thought Chuck Wendigs writing style was a bit weird for Starwars, however, Mr. Bones is probably my second favorite droid after HK-47. Its probably my favorite character from aftermath

this reminds me of a droid I made, the Z1, AKA Eradicator Droid. It was a mix of a Magna guard and a Commando droid, and was made of stolen Zillo beast armor. It also had a Bo-Rifle and rapid fire r-45 blaster.
Another super badass droid in the CIS that serves quite well. Imagine someone having these guys as Security and making a circle and Magnaguards as at his or her side at all times.

One of my favorite droids. Just edged out of the top spot by droidekas. Gotta love those Colecoid Creation Nest products! I knew they were cool, but I never noticed the "cruelty" aspect of them. I'm psyched to feature them in a "Great Droid Rebellion" game I'm running for some friends.
Just imagine them make the commando droid to look exactly like the B1. Yeah. Would have been a nice surprise for the clones, and would have made them fear the entire CIS force.
I would make this the standard foot soldier along with the B1 and 2 droid's in my droid part army along with some clone's and variation trooper's, and it's the perfect army
this is why i main the commando droid in BF2, theyre fast and agile enough to take out heros, can pretty much kill any clone if left alone and their smoke bomb and sword along with scary hit and run tactics make you panic whenever one appears in the same area

Late to reply, but I’d assume the 2 big digits can split into 4 smaller ones, and the “thumb” can fold from being flat and wide to a more thumb-like shape. Default of the 3 fingered hand configuration probably for ease of use with Standard droid/CIS tech.

You can actually see them lower their weapons when they corner the clone, going from the head to the body. Droids using fear tactics is brilliant, though possibly a bit wasteful.

7:20 about fear is an amazing point you referenced. It shows a level of cognitive tactical understanding that goes beyond combat or weapons programs. This is an incredible level of adaptability and foresight by one of the most lethal droids in the universe.

I would say it could be one of the two or both, largely dependant of the BX's circumstances. There could be those who concluded cruelty was an effective tactic to fight against organics through observation, and those who developed that fondness as a result of long operation without memory wipe

I'm convinced liscening fees are the only reason we didn't see much more of these guys.

Yeah, the BX droids are hella expensive, more so than a B1 as a side effect of having impressive specs. Because of that price, their production was limited and only used when absolutely necessary

@@punctuationman334 well, we have seen Cad Bane taking a contract with the CIS, so those Commando Droids were given to him to either get his services in return or Dooku wanted the Hutt to be free too
TechnoKnight dooku didn’t care about Ziro at this point, Cad was merely hired by the hutts to retrieve Ziro for punishment by the hutt council. It’s possible that these commandos were bought by cad bane specifically for this mission or the hutts got in contact with droid manufactures to purchase commando units to assist cad in his mission. I guess they could have gone the way of many IG assassin droids where they gain independence and take up a career of bounty hunting to. Lots of possible explanations for there appearance in the hostage crisis.

I think the B-X at first used fear as a military tactic and psychology warfare but as time goes on and they develop personalities, with the strain of the war they gradually become more genuinely sadistic in their actions.
Actually the best overall droid are the pleasure models

Great droid, some pretty neat editing in this. You did forgot about it's Magnetized Legs though. They use it during the citadel escape arc. Magnets on the roof disarm all the clones & Jedi. Then magnetized commandos walk in unaffected. Holding their ground even when force pushed.

How much did a *BX cost compared to a standard B1?*
So how many could the CIS get if they _switched over production_ and made the BX the standard model…
It's a bit like the Tie Defender argument, yes it's four times the cost of a standard Tie, but it's definitely more effective than four standard Ties and will pay for itself after its first engagement - which it has a lot better chance of winning.
It could be that the BX was for fine tuning the *stalemate of the Clone Wars,* which Dooku was to ensure remained evenly matched to further Palpatine's plans. If the GAR pulled ahead, use more BX's, if the CIS looked like it was going to win, cut back production a bit. It also helped that the BX was reasonably effective against Jedi as it was a special forces counter, and killing Jedi was a side goal of the war to make the final purge of Order 66 easier.
So? How many BX's could the CIS field if it was the standard droid? Or at least how many could they pump out per month if they went all in for it? Armchair Sith generals need to know…
@Aditya Shivam Parashar Thanks, being trying to find the number, still 200 BX's are a lot more scary and effective than 1000 B1's, especially if it's a confined space instead of open field slugging match (which would be better suited to droidekas and maybe B2's) for which you'd use vehicles (and droid brain vehicles) anyway.
And as crew for vehicles, ships and heavy weapons ect they would more than pay for the extra lethality of the expensive system.
Having the CIS use BX's instead of B1's would result in them steamrolling the GAR in a few months tops, and they would still have a numbers advantage anyway.
But the BX is far more than 5 times as effective.
@Aditya Shivam Parashar yeah like that other guy said 1/5th is pretty okay given the vast number of droids they had. They'd probably still outnumber the clones.
My estimate is that they’re worth 8 B1s.

Given that the rather unimpressive blaster B1 droids carry cost more than the droid itself, I'm guessing the answer is "a lot more expensive". The B1 was ludicrously cheap, far more so than most civilian utility droids.

The BX commando droid is my personal favorite it’s just so adaptable to any scenario and extremely dangerous with a variety of weapons

Yeah B2s are huge. But thankful with enough EMP Grenade even a super is going down. It would be an interesting fight between Republic Commando and BX Commando droids.

Edit: Guys I know Echo didn't die. I knew about the unfinished clone wars episodes that showed him coming back. I've shown clips of them in older vids on this channel. The same way I will tell a characters story from their point of view, jedi are bad for example, why spoil Echo being alive in a vid on a droid? That's why I said it like that people. It wasn't some super rare esoteric knowledge, most of the people watching vids like this know already but just in case why spoil that. But the top comments mention it already and with Bad Batch I'm not worried about a spoiler now.

(After the Clone Wars) If I came across a downed CIS ship with intact droids inside I would focus on getting those Commando droids reprogrammed and restored for my own uses. I can see a commando droid eliminating an entire squad of stormtroopers.
They could also be good scrappers due to their agility and skill

Imagine a team of 4 republic reprogrammed, upgraded commando droids and 4 commando clones.
I noticed you didn't mention their torsos were magnetized. There were multiple times where a clone shot a BX and just about killed it, but then, it restabelized its torso with the magnets built into the slimmer part of their chest.
Commando droids had such an awesome introduction being put up against Rex and Cody

I remember that Magnaguards are trained personally by their Leader, so the Yellow Staff ones are simply Dooku's, hence different fighting style and tougher in combat. I could be wrong though
Great video about my favorite droids! My second favorite are vulture droids, I love their design and how they switch from walking to flying and can choose either to be a tank or a fighter. Also how they kamikaze into enemy ships and vehicles when they don't want them to escape or when they have been hit and are falling. Also their droid voice (talking in an uncomprehensible language) and the sound they make while flying.

I believe strongly that the fear tactic was programmed into the BX as a way to win fights morally which allows them to quickly end small skirmishes between Clones and Rebels. The reason I think this is because of almost everything about them apart from the voice, although the droids can change voices, is menacing looking. Their movement, body design, and certain methods used. It's like you said, they easily could've killed that Clone but chose to blast him to a whole new world, this was probably one of the methods adopted into programming "Find the highest ranked person, and brutally kill in front of the rest" Maybe not said or programmed that way but thats basically the jist of it. Just my theory

Next to R4's, they are my favorite droids. Looking forward to playing one in a tabletop RPG someday. I should of picked up the Clone Wars Campaign book when I had the chance.
this reminds me of a droid I made, the Z1, AKA Eradicator Droid. It was a mix of a Magna guard and a Commando droid, and was made of stolen Zillo beast armor. It also had a Bo-Rifle and rapid fire r-45 blaster.
Cruelty in war is a weapon as well, it can be a very effective one.

These were always my favorite droids, they're interesting, smart, and feel like a better equal or match for clones than numbers of B1's are.
Just imagine them make the commando droid to look exactly like the B1. Yeah. Would have been a nice surprise for the clones, and would have made them fear the entire CIS force.

I would make this the standard foot soldier along with the B1 and 2 droid's in my droid part army
along with some clone's and variation trooper's, and it's the perfect army
this is why i main the commando droid in BF2, theyre fast and agile enough to take out heros, can pretty much kill any clone if left alone and their smoke bomb and sword along with scary hit and run tactics make you panic whenever one appears in the same area
When Rex shot that in disguise commando droid they missed the opportunity to have him say right before or after "Little tall for a Clone aren't you?..."
