- The Republic and Imperial War droids all stem back to one odd creation, L8-L9. See how it evolved into the Z-X3 experimental droid trooper, then Dark Trooper project with Phase 0 being Clone Cyborgs, and eventually full Droids seen under Moff Gideon.

I will never understand how that war droid at Asajj’s introduction somehow got dropped by investors when it obliterated half of the arena participants in seconds and it took a literal Dark Jedi some genuine effort and dodging to put it down.
You’d have planetary governments lining up around the block for a brigade of these things.
The Seppies would have gone absolutely apeshit for this droid.

Yeah keeping the in universe lore logic sounding reasonable is hard sometimes and this is one for sure, and why so much stronger than anything out there. And the design looks like it was supposed to be a cyborg originally

I think that Phase 0 Dark Trooper that is the cyborg clone could be what we saw in the first episode of the two-episode mid-season finale. The clone that had his CT number wiped and said he was a "believer"

Might have been a Clone batch kept just for black ops but I was wondering if the gas he was breathing was a new type of mind control to replace the chip. Essentially some of the 'decomissioned' clones were being reprogrammed and used for Imperial Intelligence as disposable assets.
I really hope that in future bad batch seasons we will see the start of the dark trooper program
I loved the Dark Troopers from old Battlefront games. I really hope we can see the Cyber Clone Dark Troopers in the future, and hopefully with their Arc Castors from the 2005 Battlefront game.
if that happens they should give them their shotguns from BFI, shock guns are way too silly lol
@Random Stormtrooper Fair enough. The Blast Cannons, as they were called in game, would be a great addition. Nothing like combining both blasters and shotguns together to create a devastating weapon of destruction.
Man, I loved the L8-L9 droid in the original Clone Wars cartoon. Was so sad when it got smashed by Ventress.

Droid on Droid would be amazing to see in a show; maybe a separatist holdout or repurposed facility sacrificed to a canonized Rom Mok and a small task force of Dark Trooper droids. I don't think it'll happen with the new canon but Dark Trooper cyborg Cody could also be great to see.
- A well directed mini series showcasing a select group of I.G. Droids history, riot, expansion, etc. would be fascinating to watch. Someone like Toa Frasier would be an excellent candidate for this.

I remember as a kid having a book and record combo about that Droid uprising. It was voiced well.
What was that? That sounds so damn familiar to me, I remember those star wars stories from the 80s. And that makes me feel both old and shocked at how long I've been a star wars fanboy. Long enough that my literal earliest memories are of seeing it in the theater as a small child. It's pretty much engrained in me you could say.

Android revolution post sequels would be a wild storyline. A signal that sends all the droids of the galaxy big and small into a haywire aggressive stance towards organics long enough for a fleet carrying newly constructed war droids to seize territory.
There already was one in the books, one of Luke Sistershaggers students gone bad, and they were installing a remote detonator in droids and droids brain installs in ships, as they were built/reconned. Took out several ships crews if I remember. Almost took out Luke too, flying a modded T65D series. Can't remember the name of the book, its been too long.

I remember growing up I had a book about droids in Star Wars that I spent *hours* pouring over, and it always brings a smile to my face when I see one of the more obscure or goofy droids in it reappear

I would imagine so, but they might undergo a slower, different kind of death as their failing organic parts are slowly switched out for more droid components.

You need to do a breakdown of the Nelvaanian species that were seen in the animated Clone Wars from the early 2000s.
The way droids behave in Star Wars, I have zero issues with droid protagonists vs droid antagonists. Also, I have great regrets that we never saw a return of the unsettling and inhuman droid voices from The Phantom Menace.

I feel like if this is going to happen in canon, it will be done using any research kamino might have done on echo, and if they haven’t done any, then the empire capturing and studying echo will be a big plot point, as will the bad batch utterly obliterating whichever research facility holds echo.

The L8-L9 was far from being a failure given how easily it eradicated the arenas fighters, with the one exception being Asajj who was not just a force wielder but a highly trained assassin that gave even the Jedi many problems. Sure, in a 1 on 1 duel the bot lost to her, but would she have survived against a whole squad? And with the feedback of the droid being vulnerable to being lifted by force users the droid could be further improved with feet capable of latching onto surfaces, not a hard solution to implement really. This bot would have been a battlefield powerhouse

Empire at war's DT 2 were my all time favourite unit in the vanilla game. But lorewise phase 0 will always have a special place In my heart given that in the far away galaxy these were the closest things to a 40k dreadnought.

Remember droids, that Bad Batch fought on Tarkin's orders? I got the heebee-jeebies, when I saw them. I am pretty sure those were Canon equivalent of the Phaze Zero Dark Troopers. Meaning, that Bad Batch fought cripled, cyborg clones
I doubt, the Kamanoians would never waste such valuable prototype droids just to satiate Tarkin's curiosity, not to mention Shaak Ti was watching the Kamanoians to make sure the Clones were being treated well, they simply wouldn't have the time make droids like that.
Odds are they were just an earlier model of those imperial security droids we see in Rebels that kinda look like Dark Troopers
If it replaced the clones, the Clone Wars would've been called the Droid Wars.

The legends version of the phases 1-3 dark troopers went from being droids to suits, in canon it's the other way around.
While I understand the opportunity of getting contracted to build a droid army is lucrative, I feel like trying to get a Republic or Imperial commission would be to ignore those faction's greatest strengths. Firstly the Republic and Empire had such a large populace that conscripts and volunteer armies would be in such great supply a droid replacement would be naive. Why manufacture one droid equal or better than an average infantry man when those resources could be devoted to a dozen rifles for a dozen organic soldiers? Even if by some Separatist miracle they kill EVERY Jango Fett clone there are still Trillions of Republic citizens to draft if needed. This is exactly why a droid on droid war would be so small scale if it would happen at all, because any super power in the Galaxy worth it's merit can recruit the millions of soldiers it would need. Only in massive extinctions where those populations cease to exist would a droid army be favored because it would become a necessity.
Canonical Phase 3 Dark Trooper used phrik armor, which made them resistant to lightsabers. Disney conveniently forgot that last detail.

These L8-L9 droids just break the lore. 10 of them would be able to annihilate most ground forces and be able to handily kill padawan level jedi in a 1v1. You could easily argue they could 1v1 knight level jedi, as Ventress can certainly beat most of the jedi knights. They'd be terrifying to fight in both ships and urban areas with the flamer. Their only downside is they got no hands, so they can't operate machinery despite their apparent intellect. Not much of a downside though as they can plow through droidekas. And I'm gonna assume tanks too like the aat, the snail tank, octo tri-droid, the big crab droids, and the homing spider.
That's mostly why OP things in Star Wars get lost when you blow up their factory, as if no one makes backups 😉

One legends phase 3 dark trooper could take on 15-20 canon phase 3 dark troopers with no issue. The ones from mando season 3 were cool, but I was genuinely disappointed to find out they were supposed to be phase 3, thought they were going to be phase 1 since they were droids.

Lets look at Marvel. In comics, every character is OP. But in MCU they are weakened for viewing pleasure. Nobody wants an OP hero who wins every fight. Each hero struggled.
Same for SW. They weakened Luke, because its his first intro outside ST. Grievous? He was in the movies, then your precious 'Legends'. Phase 3 wasn't lightsaber resistant, because it would be a poor intro for Luke.
