- The new FMS Reflex V3 Gyro has a feature that enables you to install it in a Non-FMS plane. You can change the Gyro control surface directions. This wasn't possible with the Reflex V2. In this video I walk through the process.

Awesome video! Finally, someone explains how to adjust the V3...why couldn't FMS explain this too?? Thank you again!
Glad this helped. I think FMS relies on the community to create educational videos on their stuff. (kinda glad they do, since they give me free stuff...)😎
Nice tutorial Will. Great info for Reflex users. Nice T-28.
Thanks Adam.. Yep, that little T-28 just loves to test out cool gear... She really likes this reflex too....
Thanks for showing how to setup custom plane.
Youre welcome.. Hope this video helps...
I really like the paint job on that T-28 and I support tinkering with new stuff. That said so far for me the best thing about the reflex system is the spare servo extensions I get from it. I replace them with 630 or 631's. The Reflex V3 has some great new features but has the same problem as the V2 with the cabling.
Totally agree. All the cables are a pain. I do like my Spektrum RX system to make life much easier...
Nice info Will like the option of adding to any plane now 😊👍👍👍
Thanks Frank.. Appreciate the support.
Great tutorial; I found a way to connect my plane. Can the RV3 three modes be set up on a Futaba radio, and how?
Yes, the Futaba should be fine. Take a look at the instructions for the V3. You'll connect the RX to the Reflex and servos plug into the reflex too. There is a MODE plug from the reflex that will go to a spare channel on your rx. Set a 3 pos switch for that channel.
Hey, great video thankyou. Im just about to maiden a Xly Tasman with the Reflex V3 installed. At 1:40 you show the orientation of the reflex for 'other plane' configuration. My problem is that when I select 'other plane' in the mobile app an image of the reflex turned 180° is shown on screen. Im worried now which way to position it? Be great if you could have a look into this please. Thanks, Daniel - Ireland .
Daniel, I removed my Reflex V3 from that plane (its a test plane for various rx's and such....). I would place the reflex as the picture indicates. Don't fasten down untill you confirm things are moving correctly.. The good new is, you can reverse the movement of the control surfaces.. So get your plane setup with the Gyro in OFF. Make sure all control surfaces are working right. Then turn on stability mode, check surfaces and adjust with app as needed. Double check and go fly.. Good luck..
@@SteffenRC Hi, I'm just home from the maiden, plane flew really well and the reflex worked without any issues. I highly recommend it!
Thanks.
Great to hear...
I had the same question, on the app in the video it appears that the orientation is rotated 180 degrees front to back - wire ports facing forward in the app and wire ports facing back in the actual video install. Is that correct? I can't find information anywhere else on this. I checked my setup and control surfaces are responding properly, I'm not a 100% sure if the front to back orientation affects the setup if the control surfaces are responding correctly. Mine is setup with wire ports facing forward as in the app, I haven't flown yet.
@@duvluv007 ultimately, you got to do a gyro check. Put the gyro in Stability mode and test direction.
Hi, my question is. Is it important to make the changes for throw direction in the gyro and not through the transmitter setup? I like your videos. Bob
Bob, First setup your throws and control surface direction in the tx as you normally do. Then activate the Reflex. I have mine on a 3 position switch and turn on Stability mode (Self Level). This will enable me to see the control surface movement and confirm they are going the correct direction. If they aren't, I can change how the GYRO controls direction with the app. (Positive or Negative)
@SteffenRC OK, thanks, I just installed the V3 in a new plane and didn't think about this. It worked out fine.
Can the gyro gains be adjusted using the transmitter as well?
Nope. Sorry, this FMS Reflex system doesn't do that.. Its just a simple 3 axis gyro. The Spektrum AS3X system is adjustable, but I think your using a non-spektrum system.
Can you edit the 120m range fence for the 850mm ranger?
Not sure.. I don't have that plane, I didn't recall seeing any FMS Planes having a GPS fencing option. I know some of the HobbyZone planes do though....
Grazie! 💪😉😊
Yes. Other Plane is a generic plane config that allows you to make changes to the direction. All the other planes are FMS Specific... Thanks for watching my video...
Are there any range issue with this gyro your aware of, i would like this gyro for my fpv aeroscout with er8 elrs receiver but I will be flying far out of Los why I'm asking
The gyro is controlled by your RX.. So, any range issues will come from the RX.. Not the gyro.
With the reflex v3 do I plug the ESC into the reflex? Or do I have to run a parallel plug from the receiver I'm using the rtf bluebird n confused where to plug in the ESC?
Mike, The esc plugs into the top port (4 connection options) on the Reflex that is labeled "THR". Then the extension wire from the side of the reflex to your throttle on the rx. The channel will depend on you radio setup.. Let me know if you have more questions.
Awesome thanks she's working and flying great
Hey it's Mike again win I power up the reflex the first time on the rtf bluejay do I move all top switches all the way forward or put the gyro switch to the middle - gyro off position your knowledge is appreciated thanx in advance😊
@ if you setup a 3 pos switch for this gyro, middle is Gyro off, whether it’s in Stabilized or Optimized depends on how that switch is setup. But easy to test and see the difference. I can’t remember which switch controls the gyro. Sorry.
Can it also turn off with a two position switch ? i have only two position switch on my transmitter.
The Gyro has 3 modes: Self Level, Off and Optimized (wind correction). If its on a two position switch you can turn it off, but you'll lose one of the other modes...
If u use a two position switch, you can change the gyro for the two stable function, but u can not turn off the gyro 😊🤝
Do you have a link for the Lemmon Rx that you are using? I'm going to put one in a new build I'm doing and that sounds like what I'd like to add to the Reflex V3 I've got.
I got mine from MotionRC. So far, its a solid solution...
Will - I appreciate your effort with this video. However, as I have NO experience with a gyro - some of it seemed like Greek to me. If I get in a gyro situation - I might want a little help at that time. Thanks.
We all learned in the days without a Gyro. I've used them on several planes and on some I've seen an improvement in performance.. That locked in feel. On others, I don't find an benefit. I yank them out, or swap out the RX and use it somewhere else... (Spektrum systems)
why arent you using the spextrum 630?
Because I wanted to show how the FMS Reflex gyro works.
$ ;-)
Seems all too familiar 😂. Wouldn’t this V3 fix my issue w Bigfoot?
The V3 allows you to reverse the gyro servo direction. Or, just yank the gyro in that plane. 👍🏼
Thanks. I’m a gyro guy. After I almost ran into a guy named Bob by a pavilion with a Hawksky V2 - I will always fly with a gyro from now on.
Not sure a Gyro could've prevented that one.. I think over confidence crashed that one.😂
Hi can you please send me a link to a mobile app for android that works for you. the application I found in the menu does not work. thanks milan
I don't have an Android phone so I can't help much. But you are saying the Android FMS App link in the Reflex documentation isn't working? If so, I'd ask FMS support to offer assistance... Sorry I cant help..
@@SteffenRC Support I ask, but they dont help me seriosly
I found the latest update took a while to connect and several times it would fail to connect. After a couple tries it started working. Try your app a few more times. Make sure the plane is powered and the red light is visible on the Reflex. Good luck.
Where should the reflex gyro be located? Should it be located on the cg mark? I tried putting it on my scratch build foam plane and it made it uncontrollable.
Larry, I try and get it as close to the CG as possible. The reflex shouldn't have made your plane uncontrollable unless the gyro corrected directions weren't correct. Meaning your TX controls were correct, but the Gyro controls weren't corrected in the right orientation. Did you confirm the Gyro Stabilization mode moved the control surfaces in the right direction? Let me know.. Will
@@SteffenRC I didn't realize how much the placement of the gyro mattered. I just assumed you could just glue it down anywhere on the plane. I've since moved it to a better position, and it flies much better now. Thanks
Well, after seeing your video I will stick to Hobbyeagle's A3S4. It's almost the same price but much more capable. The Reflex app looks horrible compared to the A3S4 app. Drawback (maybe) is that it needs a usb connection cable to a Windows PC or laptop.
I have a few of the Hobby Eagles and they very nice. I liked this option for a few reasons. One I fly a lot of FMS planes and this Reflex system has worked pretty well. The Second reason is I really like being able to change the setting from the phone. I'm hoping with more enhancements the App will improve. (Its a little rough right now...). Many of the FMS planes come with this Gyro, so using it on non FMS planes in the future after the plane is destroyed is another win for me... Thanks for you comments. Appreciate it..
I also use the Hobbyeagle super A3S4, these have 5 outputs, then you can use flapperons and gain on a rotary knob (8 channel RX)
Why my app doesnt work?! Bluetooth is connected, but cant open plane from tap. Reads connected, but doesnt open. Can anyone help. I try 3 different phones. Always same
Make sure your reflex is connected to a planes rx and the plane is powered up. I just upgraded my FMS App and I was having lots of issues of not connecting. Then after many tries, it started to work again. But, having it connected to the plane worked best for me. Just connecting to an ESC didn't.. (Maybe it was just me and the timing.. doesn't make sense.....).
@@SteffenRC I solve problem. Aileron and throttle plugs was acros. Now its working, but connecting bluetooth is weak I said. Not so good thing now days. Hope it works anyway and i can thrust it. When i bought this, I think that reflex is high quality product, but sure anymore, will see. My plane is old Hobbyking grasshopper L4 1400mm and I chooce Fms piper 1400mm profile, because other plane choice get my aileron servos full turn. I dont know why. Thanks answering and try to help me. Good times with flying🙂
@@canonhd1000 wait. Be very careful using an FMS plane for a non FMS plane. Other plane allows you to reverse servos and reduce throws. Just test the gyro directions well. Good luck
@@SteffenRC Ok good to know. Yes I check directions with club members. Do you know/ideas why Other plane setup didnt work on ailerons?
Help me understand what it did with the the Ailerons under Other Plane..
My Reflex V3 died, and I returned it. It worked initially but got to where it wouldn't let me change models or edit the parameters using the FMS app on my iPhone. Also, I was disappointed in the app. I like the Hobby Eagle A3 Super 4 better. Here's one of my videos on editing the parameter file used by the Reflex software. I modify the settings for the FMS plane that's most like the non-FMS plane I'm putting the gyro in. ruclips.net/video/XqyffXgFh24/видео.htmlsi=Qz7LT8k9_hKiPLmM
Yep. The Reflex have their place, but their are a few other options out there too. I watched your video on editing the files. That was awesome. You gotta be some type of IT System Engineer to go down that path.. I'm just an IT Sales guy, so I like the quick and easy methods..😎. Thanks for your comments, I really appreciate it.
