1:17 - Minor correction, the battery in the newer + version has been minorly increased in size from 2,000 to 2,200. Other than that, I'm correct in what I say in the video.
Tnx for taking the time to make this video.
I have the NX8 currently and this is awesome news. A huge update for us. Keep up the great work. I'm one happy camper!!
Your NX8 is now a 20 channel radio. No your NX8 always was a 20 channel radio, it's just the old firmware didn't allow you to use the other 12 channels. I guess all the love the Radiomaster TX16S is getting has spurred Spektrum on to give this amazing free gift to it's customers? Personally I have both the TX16 and NX8, as I fly helis I never use anything above 6CH but I guess it's nice to have the extras for future models.
Steve this is awesome man! You can see and hear the enthusiasm. I literally just updated my NX7e and the AR630 in my Extreme Flight 48" Edge 540. I figure a small 3D plane is a great candidate to play with the AS3X+. They are harder to dial in with a gyro...looking so forward to seeing what I can do with it! Thanks for sharing man.
Have fun with it! Can't wait to see your content about it :)
Thanks for the helpful video. Will Spektrum release any receivers above 10 channels? OTher than the very expensive and big powersafe receivers, there arent many options to make use of the additional channels. You also cant daisy chain two smaller receivers together currently for more channels...
IIRC, only the AR636 was able to redesignate its 6 outputs to channels above the 1-6 normal designations. You could have a standard 6 channel Rx and also the AR636, and control more than 6 channels. I may be wrong but even though the AR636 could listen up to 9 normal channels, I think with a remote Rx (AR636A only), it could receive up to 20 or 24 channels.
Will the older dx controllers work with thr axs3+ receivers, or should it be kept as is
If you would like to do a real service to your customers, write a manual that the average person can use. As usual, the manual for the Spektrum transmitters tells one where to find the action request needed, but does not tell the steps on how to accomplish the requested task. Not everyone is a computer tech.
So get a non computer radio!!

I moved from a DX18 to the NX7e+ and after doing a few upgrades I really like the NX7e+ now. I am a night flyer so the rope lighting on the face was annoying. I created a left and right side decal 1/4" wide and covered the rope LEDs and that works perfect. I also designed and 3D printed shorter stick tops and they are great. Now I want to upgrade the battery in the transmitter. Amy one done a battery upgrade yet?
This is a HUGH DEAL! How did I just stumble upon this?! 20 channels for $400?! This is game changing! Thank you for this great video.
Thanks for watching! It’s a great deal for sure :)
Looks good. How about cross compatability. Will an asx3x receiver work with asx3x+ transmitter, and asx3x+ receiver with asx3x transmitter? Also, the as3000 asx3x module was kind of half way to being asx3x+. Is there any "+" updates for the as3000? Thanks for your help.
Yep that works both ways. No updates to as3000 as the hardware won’t allow it.
Thank you. Into the updates I go. Your quick answer was appreciated.
Can't say that with my first listen I understood or caught it all but for what I did it is pretty cool stuff. [BTW, I have the NX8.]
Just finished doing the update to my NX8. Now I just have to wait for the release of the new Timber 20... you know, the new Timber that requires 20 channels to fly with all its features. 😊
Good to see you’re still at it! I watched you a lot when I first started flying RC helis.. then I’ve been into DJI drones, came back to a couple of planes, now I want to return to my roots, so to speak. I still have a (venerable) 300 cfx I’ve NEVER FLOWN, and I may get another old heli, the 230 s, But I am thinking I should get a newer radio too at some point.. it’s been ten year and I am still using my DX8! I told my wife back when I got it,
“I can use this thing to fly anything in the store for years!”… so other than the drones that came with their own radios, that has been true. But with newer Smart batteries and newer smart aircraft models, I’m thinking I should upgrade my radio too. But there is nothing weong with it.. it’s mint! It still works the same as the first day I got it!
Glad you’re back in the cool part of the hobby :)
What processor is IXSR?
I am a DX6R user and I know that DX6R has used the "ARM Cortex A7" processor.
If the processor has a big performance improvement, I'm thinking about going to IXSR.
Steve. it would be awesome IF you could update the transmitter and then update all your receivers through the transmitter! I've got a lot of receivers to update.
Mainly ar636t's
That’s a slick idea!
Hi. After updating the NX8 and the original receiver in the E-Flite Turbo Timber Evolution 1.5, BNF version, why does AS3X and SAFE not work when I re-use it from the BNF model database in the radio? I haven't flown the plane since the update because I don't have time to spend hours setting it up by trial and error. It seems that the database of preset models in the radio is not compatible with the new version.
@@vlastikvojtisek9952 well it has to be set back up using the forward programming screens. I can promise you can set it up in 5 minutes. There isn’t “hours” of work ahead of you. We are working on other files, and right now we only have models files for the Eratix, the viper 90 and the decathlon.
There’s a video called “spektrum as3x+ recover firmware update guide” on RUclips and you can skip to the first time setup part of the video to walk you through it.

@stevesRC so if i update my nx6 to the latest firmware without updating the receivers will they still work as they were befor? I have mostly umx BNF planes and a apprentice s2 with a 631 receiver
Yep they will work fine.
Hi from Australia! Thanks for all your work with this video:) I know the NX7e doesn’t have voice, but with this new update, will it get custom sounds? The promo material made it seem like it would?
It will! More on that soon!
@@StevesRC wow awesome! Do you mean if I update my NX7e now, it has custom sounds enabled, or that feature is still to come later?
Well I bought the Draco a few weeks ago for my birthday and after assembling it I decided to purchase the Spektrum 8+, which I did this morning before viewing this video. Will this radio have the updates already installed?
@@secularsunshine9036 if it’s the 8+ then yes
Will the original DX18 (non G2/3?) series Tx updated to FW 2.11, be able to take advantage of the features of newer AS3X+ Rxs, or the older SRXL2 Rxs, updated to AS3X+?
I updated 3 rxs to as3x+ and it works just fine with my Dx 8. For now.
@@JeWCyDuDe Thanks for the reply. Have you tried to use any of the new features of the Plus software like the nose-wheel steering stabilization?

@hifinsword I haven't seen anyone make a video on hand launch. I wish that was a video. I do throw a few umx planes but I see no option for the hand launch assist with them in the newer firmware.
I think a lot of these features are pointless... we flew just fine without them in the past. The as3x+ MIGHT seem a bit more stable but that's a BIG if there.
Hey Steve, thanks again…Do you mean if I update my NX7e right now, it has custom sounds enabled, or that feature is still to come later?
If it does have them right away after the update, how do I activate them?
@@StevesRC ah ok. I’m

What a bummer that iX12 is not considered. I feel set aside as costumer
My best guess is the development team is not putting much effort in evolving or adding features to discontinued models.
Ix12 sucks thats why!!! They ran it outa town years back!!!
Interesting video Steve. Just come back to Spektrum (NX8) but also your G2 charger and battery system. Having purchased the S2100 charger I want to update my charger - so guess what my question is …….. WHEN IS THE UPDATE CABLE (SPMXCA100) going to be available??? - an honest answer would be appreciated please. Or have I already got a system you’re not supporting anymore? Cheers Andy
I'm looking into this today with the team. I'll provide an answer soon. I can promise you the Smart Technology systems are a MAIN focus of the HH company so you do INDEED have a fully supported system.
Looked into it. Found out it was mistakenly not reordered. The team is looking into it and getting them back in stock asap. That said, if you need one go ahead and email me at the contact email in my about section and I will see about getting you one from the team here. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Thanks for all of the info, ive been hopping between RTF radios and im looking into getting one of these so i dont have to do that anymore lol
I didn't understand what you were saying or suggesting regarding a magnet and the NX8 charging port. Please explain.
@@BillKisel sure, you can find a micro usb magnet adapter on Amazon. We sell one too. It’s basically a plug you put into the port and it then connects via magnetic connector each time you are charging. This makes life easier and prevents damage to the plug in the long run since you aren’t plugging in and out of that micro port each time.
@@StevesRC Thanks Steve! Bought one from you guys and have used it twice. No more anxiety coming from pushing in and pulling out the micro usb plug and feeling I'm going to mess up the mounting/soldering within the TX.
What does it mean when the radio says holds one?

Looking forward to seeing your videos. I have a very basic understanding of my radio. I'm hoping to see a video series for beginners. The two flying clubs are 45min away. My boy is one year old. I've been flying when I can. I'm up to 20 HH planes. Looking forward to utilizing my NX8 to its fullest.
Fantastic. If you have a specific video need you want, let me know. I'm headed to airventure next week but when I return I can toss some quick things together.
One more question, will any of the STF downloads or the AS3X+ stuff be available in the 6250hx flybarless system??
@@57heeler in the future yes
Is there any way to reduce the number of channels on the monitor screen on the NX8 after the update. The existing models in my transmitter monitor just 8 but if you create a new model it monitors 12
I am trying to set up a new NX8+ and there are some differences between the older NX8 and the updated NX8+. The manual has a channel input config screen from the NX8. It shows 5 Aux channels. The actually screen on the NX8+ has no Aux channels. The RUclips videos for the nx8 all direct that the SAFE select switch be programmed to Aux2. I can't get the switching set up on the NX8+ for switchable between beginner, intermediate, and advanced. When I bind the new transmitter it only comes up in beginner mode.
I hear ya man...I got the new NX8+ a few weeks ago, trying to set up my Spirit 100, electric conversion. I FINALLY got my thro cut programmed, and went to a different mode to assign a switch for my flaps, and now my thro. and thro. cut off switch dissent work !! I'm about ready to return mine..
Good luck with yours !!
HI Steve, I updated my NX8 with the newest firmware and only got 14 channels. I'm not complaining just wondering if I did something wrong or did I pick the wrong update. I fly heli's and will never use 14 or 20 channels but I am looking foward to the foward programming improvements in my planes. But again..... WHY would it not pick up 20 channels.
Thanks in advance
You will need to go into the frame rate menu and turn on Xplus channels.
Thanks for this video, I found it helpful. Please help me understand the advantage of using multiple channels for ailerons vs using a Y into one channel. Thanks in advance.
Glad it was helpful. This would take a video to explain but th short answer is adjustability of each surface individually. It also gives you the ability to run things like crow, differential, and more. You can sub trim one surface without impacting both. Etc…
Not every pair of servos will have exactly the same amount of travel range. So with a Y connected pair of aileron servos you more or less have to accept that both ailerons may not match perfectly where travel is concerned. With each aileron servo plugged into it's own channel you can then tune the pair of ailerons to match perfectly in travel.
I didn't hear you mention anything about the IX12 . Does any of this apply to the IX 12 ?
Yes sirrr. I wana know to about the ix12....
Welp, the short story is that the iX12 will not be getting the update. It’s still supported but the system isn’t capable of the 20ch upgrade unfortunately.

@StevesRC Perfect. Thanks for the quick response. This is so cool!! Nice job Spektrum! Thank you Steve.
is a channel expansion Firmware update possible for the ix12? If yes, when could we expect that?
No and it will not be getting a 20ch update unfortunately. It’s hardware limited in that regard.
Hi Steve. Do I need to update my IX14 in order to use my AS3X+ receivers? Thanks
To program them yes
Ok. Thanks for your prompt response.
Does the NX 8+have a horizontal antenna as well as well as the nx9 in the handle
Yes, it has both.
So If I understand these new channels are not fully proportional and independent. They must be tied to a current stick or switch. And chance with this update can you use two seperate receivers at same time.
I really wish Spektrum would stop making new radios all the time. I really wish they would start to make 6 and 8 channel receivers in the $40 price range that have Flightpack telemetry. I really wish this would happen as I truely believe it would make my investment in Spektrum transmitters good value again and I truely beleive it will be the most beloved brand again. The rc world does not need new transmitters. New receivers with standard flight pack telemtry for a decent price please !!! Please make Spektrum great again!
This wasn't really a "new" radio development. This was firmware. We hear you though. If you utilize Spektrum's Smart ESC system you don't need flight pack telemetry wires and all that bulk. The system just "works" with your ESC line. Heck, you can even use non-smart batteries with a smart ESC and get what you are looking for.
Yeah he wants affordable too tho. Spectrum makes the stuff the guy asking the question wants. It’s just not 40. It’s about twice that. He doesn’t care about extra wires. It’s the additional 40 dollars per receiver he’s concerned about 😂
They gotta make their money and pay their dev team. R&D isn’t cheap
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He needs a different hobby!!
Any word on the info on how to add custom sounds to the NX7e after the update?
There seems to be some confusion around this. I checked with the team and the NX7E will not get this portion of the update as it is incapable of voice and therefore it cannot do custom sounds.
Hi. How do we update the custom sounds into nx10? I can't find anything anywhere on how to do this

@@thomasgallien4371 you should send it in. It’s likely a loose wire but that could get worse or lead to issues over time. If it’s past warranty, you could crack it open and check it yourself but if you’re under warranty, just have HH sort it out.
@@StevesRC what kind of down time would I be looking at you think ?
@@thomasgallien4371 the goal our of service team is 2.5 days or less. Right now they are running around 2 days for service and then back. So probably shipping time both ways plus 2 days.
I actually opened mine as I had the same issue. I can confirm that it is indeed a wire that was poorly routed. It’s a bit too short and it is not secured properly. This is by design. It didn’t just pop out of its holder. There is no holder! It’s flailing around as the gymbal travels through its full range of motion. I highly recommend sending it back asap or open it up and secure it urself. I used double sided time to hold it down. The wire will rip eventually if u just ignore the problem and then it’s gonna be harder to fix.
This is a manufacturers defect and should be honored past warranty. Anyone who looks inside the radio at that left gymbal would easily agree. Horizon hobby is pretty good in terms of customer service though so I hope the keep it up and fix it for customers free of charge even past warranty. They market these transmitters as lasting many years. Time to see if they stand behind their words.
re you doing any up dates for the IX ?
The ix 14 and 20 received updates. Not the 12 however.
cant get the updated programming app downloaded. i have version 8.0
It doesn’t seem they have included the IX12 transmitter unfortunately. I didn’t see any update on my transmitter yet.
The iX12 is unable to be updated with this firmware update as the hardware cannot support it. This radio is still supported, but it will not be receiving the 20ch update.
That’s unfortunate. I guess people with the IX12 cannot use AS3X+ either. Bummer!!
Given the track history of the iX12, it’s a shame that Spektrum didn’t make good on that by including the iX12 in the software upgrade.
Anyways, have acquired 4 Spektrum transmitters over the years, iX12 was the last, after that experience no more Spektrum for me.

@@437johnl that’s a tough one without seeing it. Worth a call to our support team and have them walk you through it.
Spectrum is a premium product. My problem with them is that I like to fly all kinds of stuff and I prefer my Radiomaster Zoro. Mine is with the built in 4in1 module with an external Express LRS module. There is very little I can’t bind to, including Spektrum, for less than $300.
I wish Spektrum would build a radio with an internal Spektrum transmitter and an external module bay for 4in1 Modules or Express LRS Modules that didn’t break the bank.
No question that Spektrum and Horizon Hobby produce incredible products with bind and fly options and my continues to grow with more than a dozen AS3X models. Can not wait to fork over $200 foe the new ME262.
Would just like to see them take a stab at a truly “universal” radio.
Oh and get us a AS3X P38 Lightning next. Would love to see one built around the twin otter power system/battery.

I would use Spektrum again if only the radio's where not so bulky. I have a DX18 and IX12.
DX18 was the perfect size. I mean the thickness. IX12 is way thicker in the hand and just feels bulky. So I just don't use the IX12. DX18 fits like a glove, but sadly, it's no longer supported.

I’m confused as to why you would buy an nx20 at this point then. Yea of course the nx20 is a little nicer but still the main reason why most people bought it was because of the extra channels so why did they buy a $1200 radio when a $400 radio now has the same capability. I feel like this throws people who bought those bigger radios under the bus
Here's a few reasons why, but ultimately it comes down to wants vs. needs. Analogous to owning a luxury car vs. an economy car. The NX20 compared to a NX8... Hall Effect gimbals, larger screen, more physical switches, Alum sliders, nicer grips, etc.
Sure, they both can do roughly the same thing, but you do have more options with NX20 than you do with NX8.
Is it truly 20 independent channels? I find it hard to believe they would just go from 8 to 20 channels for free without a catch.
20 channels. All of them independent. I suppose the only "catch" is that not ALL 20 are full resolution. But this is how the system operates on our current IX and NX 20 platforms anyway.
@@StevesRC what does that mean “not full resolution”?
Don’t worry too much about it. The explenation is a bit complicated and would take many paragraphs to explain and you likely won’t notice the loss of resolution in the higher channels. Just try to make sure ur elevator, rudder, and aileron servos are on the lowest possible channels and you’ll be fine. Use the higher channels for stuff like flaps, spoilers as3x safe….
Thank you for this video!
Welcome!!
must be nice to have horizon pay for 14 hundred dollar servos for your airframe. all these updates are cool and all but a way for you to make quality parts cheaper so more of us can afford to have nice things would be more appreciated than the ability to drive 2 grand in servos with a radio.
For the record, Horizon doesn’t pay for everything as you might think. We will continue to push to make the hobby more accessible for all. Thanks for watching.
How do you use spektrumnx 8 + 20 channels ?
Nx10 better get the 20-channel support update too.
It has
@@StevesRC awesome
Oh a Micheal McDowell fan….
Add Bluetooth for headphones please.
You can do that with the ix platform
"I don't want you to buy another radio" With your channel locking policies of the last 10 years that is what you made many people already do - multiple times.

@@Mikeylikesit1968 Cheers man. To each their own.

Is there any way this guy could talk any faster? He even gets tired and has to take a deep breath. How did he get a job in promoting product reviews? Looking elsewhere!
@@stevehelton3457 I mean, this is a personal channel… nobody is paying me to make these videos…sorry I’m too fast!
Hey brother, how come my
ix20se. radio
is saying holds1. Sometimes it says holds2 when I'm in flight. What exactly does that mean thank you
If it’s truly a hold. You need to rethink your antenna placement. A hold is a loss of signal holding set failsafe positions.
@StevesRC Okay thank you brother 🙏
