  • The new FMS V3 Reflex has two great features that the V2 didn't have. One you can change the gains and two you can make those changes from the App on your phone. In this video, I'll go through this process.

    Glad to see the Reflex is back and even better. I hope FMS starts putting them back in all their planes, at least as an option. FMS used to offer it for only $10 more, installed- great value. I use the Lemon RX Gen 2 with the Reflex system and it works great. Item LM0081 is only $15.90 (Direct from Lemon), 7 CH, great range with 2 antenna and DSMX/DSM2 compatible. They also have the 6 CH LM0080 for only $12.90 but this one has only one antenna.

      I gotta imagine they stopped installing them in their planes when they started to design the V3.. So funny you said that about the Lemon RX.. I just installed that 7 channel rx and the V3 in the Integral FMS sent me.. Looking forward to see how FMS setup that plane. It's cool that I can change those settings at the field now (if needed)...

    • @SteffenRC
      @SteffenRC  Месяц назад +1

      Yes.. I use those little AR620s often. The throttle should work ok.. Double check the connection for the throttle in the reflex/rx. Rule out the Reflex, bypass the reflex and see if the throttle works (the reflex might not power up). I haven't had that issue, but its possible the reflex is broken.. Not sure. Congrats on flying in Optimized/AS3X mode. You'll really be able to push that plane more. (Aerobatics...).

    • @SteffenRC

      I’ve noticed the plane must sit still for a few seconds so the gyro can calibrate. Also, if you have throttle stick on a little it won’t initialize. One more thing. Make sure all the throttle cable is inserted correctly and the ESC is calibrated. Let me know if that helps

      I'm working on that video.. Stay tuned... But, in short you can pick a similar plane as what you have. They offer a non FMS options in the app too. The important thing is to play with the orientation of the Reflex and test that its going the right direction. I installed one in a Durafly T-28 and had it backwards.. Rotated 180 and it worked.. Thats odd that you can connect to the Reflex, but can't make any changes.. Hard to say if its an error on the Refex or the app. Sadly, I'd suggest you send a note to FMS Support. They'll probably want a video of what you are doing, so do a screen shot video to show... Sorry I can't help.

      You can't change those outputs. When you select which plane template you want to use the app will show a picture of how the Reflex must be installed. I found and issue that pertains to your comments. I'm going to ping FMS about it and see what they think.. My situation is I added a Reflex to a Durafly T-28. I used a FMS T-28 config/parameters and installed it in the suggested orientation. When I tested the gyro directions they were reverse, so I rotated the reflex 180 and it worked properly.. I gotta play with it a bit more, but I can see where reversing the Gyro like I can in the Eagle Gyros is important...

      According to Microsoft Copilot:
      The gyro gain is a crucial setting in radio-controlled (RC) helicopters and other aircraft equipped with gyros.
      Definition: The gyro gain determines how much correction the gyro system applies in response to movement. Essentially, it controls the sensitivity of the gyro to deviations from the desired orientation.
      Functionality: When the gyro detects any deviation (such as tail wagging or drift), it adjusts the servo output to counteract that movement. The gyro gain setting determines how aggressively this correction occurs.
      Higher Gain: Increasing the gyro gain results in more correction applied by the gyro. However, setting it too high can lead to instability or oscillations.
      Lower Gain: Reducing the gyro gain decreases the correction applied. If set too low, the gyro may not effectively stabilize the aircraft.
      Zero Gain: A gyro gain value of zero means no gyro correction is applied. In this case, the aircraft relies solely on manual control without gyro assistance.
      Remember that gyro gain adjustments can be made mechanically (e.g., altering servo arms or tail pitch levers) or through the gyro’s gain control settings. The transmitter settings (except for remote gain adjustments) do not directly affect the loop gain of the tail rotor/servo/gyro system.
      😎

    • @txkflier
      @txkflier 3 месяца назад +1

      That last paragraph is interesting. Changing the linkage geometry can change the gain. Moving the pushrod out on the servo arm or moving it in on the control horn will increase the effective gain and doing the opposite will decrease it. But, changing the expo or travel in the transmitter won’t affect the gain. I’d never thought of that, but then, I generally move the pushrod in on the servo arm to decrease the surface travel which would decrease the gain; I hardly ever increase the travel. I never move pushrods in on control horns because it could cause flutter. And with a gyro, it could cause oscillation.

    Steffen, could I ask you to confirm (or disprove) something? The Chinesium stabs that I am familiar with (Radiolink Byme-A/ZOHD Kopilot lite/Lefei Sparrow series/etc) ALL require you to set the servo correction directions under the self-levelling mode BEFORE you set the radio stick directions. This is because reversing the gyro correction directions ALSO reverses the radio stick directions in those gyro stabilizers (in ALL Modes - including Manual!) but, of course, reversing the stick directions has NO effect on the gyro correction directions.
    Or can you state (and possibly show in a video) that these Reflex Stabs work differently? Thanks in advance.

      @@SteffenRC Thanks for the reply Steffen. But, sadly, that DOES NOT answer the question asked above! 😉
      To do that in the simplest way possible ... Take your correctly set up plane/stabilizer/Tx all powered up, switch the mode switch to Self-levelling, prop 1 wing up so that that aileron comes up a little, move the radio aileron stick so that it causes the raised aileron to lower. NOTE THAT and leave it all sitting there powered up!
      THEN fire up your phone/app and change the aileron correction direction and write that to the stab. Back out and close down the app. The previously raised aileron should now be DOWN ... BUT which way does the aileron travel when you pull the radio aileron stick in the direction that previously made it go down - further down (as before) or up? 🤔
      Again, thanks in advance. 😊

    • @SteffenRC
      @SteffenRC  Месяц назад +1

      The FMS Reflex v3 is independent of the TX aileron direction. I had to validate it to make sure, but performed the process you just mentioned. Started with the TX and the Gyro working properly and the left aileron goes up, when I move the stick left and when I raise the left wing. I changed the direction with the app and the left wingtip went down when I raised the left wing (reversed) but the tx aileron controls still work in the correct direction. The Spektrum system work the same way. That why it is so important to test the gyro is working in the correct direction. Hope that help.. If not, we can discuss further.. Yes. You can.. However you really need to confirm the Gyro is going in the proper direction. For example I had a Durafly 1.1 T-28 that I added a V2 Reflex. I selected a FMS T-28 800mm for the parameter settings and installed in the illustrated orientation. When I test, I noticed it was reverse. So I rotated the gyro 180 and it worked. I set it on a 3 position switch so if things got weird, I could turn off the gyro in flight. (no different than I treat my Spektrum AS3X...). The V3 doesn't have a way to reverse the throws in the configuration tool.
