I understand why people are a bit skeptical with the 1000 planets thing, but as long as there's a ton of handcrafted content in the game, the amount of planets will just be extra content and slates for modders to use, mod support is the thing that saves most bethesda titles and I don't see why starfield would be any exception.

Because Bethesda mentions having handcrafted planets, i think a big mod in the future will be fan created planets added in an ecosystem to eventually fill out the entire galaxy with fan created content also

I agree that modders will be able to make things that were not possible before but still a 1000 planets all of them being interesting is hard to achieve, and if they made 100 planets instead of the 1000 people might have been less skeptical. I just hope that most of the planets aren't just resource mines or filled with repetitive dungeons, environments, creatures, and overall unique life forms like humans, androids, aliens, and things like that. As you said thou modders will have a blast with the things they might be able to do.

They've sunk more development time into this game than any other title. Bethesda games have so much content that a player could go years without discovering something about them. Despite the fact that they aren't a studio which broadly uses procedural generation they are very familiar with it. If you've watched/read behind the scenes stories from them they've made passing references to procedural generation and what level the technology is at in the industry. Todd himself dropped procedural generation between Daggerfall and Morrowind saying, "The technology isn't there yet.". They've wanted to make a space game since the 90s, going by the cancellation of The 10th Planet, and now they feel procedural generation is at an acceptable level to implement on more than just terrain.
A game with twice the voiced dialog of Fallout 4 with no voiced protagonist, massive cities, sprawling landscapes, implied simulation elements and a seemingly RPG centric character creator aren't even all the features they showed to be excited for. This game is theoretically the best springboard for mods to date. Additionally, Todd alludes to changes in the modding tools in the post reveal interview.

It’s a cool feeling to consider that you can be tooling around on a planet, look up and see a massive planet with rings or a tiny moon, and sit there like many of us do in real life when we look up to the sky and wonder, what’s it like up there? And then you can climb in your space ship and find out. It’s a surreal feeling for sure.

33:24 Serpent's Embrace specifies "Grav jumping", which appears to be the Starfield version of warp or hyperdrive. Apparently Great Serpent worshipers get a kick out of being in hyperspace :)
While worshiping a "Great Serpent" may sound a bit sketch, I did a bit of research and found Ananta Shesha, a serpent god in Hinduism that contains the universe: "when Shesha uncoils, time moves forward and creation takes place; when he coils back, the universe ceases to exist". This dovetails nicely with the idea: jumping across the galaxy, through Shesha's celestial body, causes Shesha to "uncoil" and furthers advancement, while immobility and stagnation breaks the spirit. There's also the character at Constellation HQ in a vaguely "space Sikh" motif that hints at him possibly being a follower?
One of the interviews mentioned being able to *steal* other ships, which got me wondering what happens to our old ship. My *guess* is that it either stays where you abandoned it, or you can send Constellation out to recover it. But if we can own multiple ships, maybe we can put them to work establishing trade routes between our settlements and/or faction hubs ala. FO4?

    • @jaredray7034
      @jaredray7034 2 года назад +3

I’m guessing that’s a good possibility in regards to trade routes. In FO4 you had an individual settler you could designate as a “provisioner“ to establish a trade route with another settlement. This gradually built up to network so that all your settlements were linked, allowing you access to the inventory of each workshop. I suspect we’re going to need a system like that in Starfield, and logically you would need a space capable ship. Perhaps you could purchase one on the cheap, assemble your own with whatever you have lying around, or “acquire“ one from someone who longer needs it.
The only other possibility I could think of is they get treated like horses in Skyrim. They go back to stables if you own them, or they are left just lying around if you stole them.
Got to say, the more I think about it, the more excited I get at the possibilities.

    • @SilentSooYun
      @SilentSooYun 2 года назад +1

@@jaredray7034 Exactly! Like, what if I steal/buy a ship and it sucks? I'm pretty sure we'll be able to recover the old ship somehow, either by returning to where we left it or Constellation or even the remaining crew have flown it to the nearest friendly starport. But can we take the new ship to a space salvage yard and sell it? Can we break it apart for any interesting parts we want to keep? For that matter, what happens to parts on our main ship that we remove: do they remain in storage? Can we sell them/ repair them/ reuse them? Imagine being able to build a new ship out of old ship parts because Settlement X needs a tradesman! Which asks another question: do ships have a "core" part (ala. FO4 power armour), or can we just "ship of Thebes" the entire thing, replacing each part a bit at a time?

I think you got the Skill System wrong. Here’s how I think it works:
    - You spend a Skill Point to acquire a new Skill.
    - Once you have a Skill you must complete it’s challenge to qualify for a Rank Up.
    - Then you must spend a Skill Point to upgrade the Skill to the next rank.

Certainly something notable and worth watching out for if you're shooting someone in the back and want to get away with it without literal fireworks going off and causing enemies to swarm you. Bethesda's approach to procedural generation is usually a little different to games like No Man's Sky's - they typically use procedural generation to create the initial content, and then go back and check it over and handcraft on top of it. For instance, Skyrim's landscape was entirely procedurally generated, and then Bethesda went back and added locations and tweaked the environment to suit what they wanted. No Man's Sky on the other hand was random generation on-the-fly as the player arrived at the planet, which gives the creator zero control over the outcome and no ability to hand craft more interesting details over the top. Based on past performance, I expect Betheda will have created all of the planetary landscapes procedurally, but then to have gone back and added points of interest where they wanted to. This doesn't necessarily mean every planet will have them (Todd did say that "sometimes a ball of ice is just a ball of ice" in a recent interview) but I wouldn't expect anywhere near the wonkiness we got from No Man's Sky either.

The 1000 planet size of this game is not even remotely close to a problem. In a game like No Mans Sky, the size of the universe was and still generally is the entrie focus of the game. That basically is the draw. In a game like Starfield, the universe is only the SETTTING, Its the backdrop. The main focus and draw, just like any other Bethesda studios game, Is the RPG mechanics and the handcrafted content. They simply gave you a massively large and semi realistic universe to play in because it captures the vibe of a true science fiction epic. But the idea that these barren and empty planets are going to somehow hinder the rest of the handcrafted experience is ridiculous.

Exactly. In a space exploration game, you need things to explore, and all those systems and planets are there to scratch that No Man's Sky itch for people who get itchy. But, just like how a lot of people pour hundreds of hours into Skyrim without ever completing the main quest, nobody is saying you have to go out there and explore them all. They are just there if you want to go explore them. Or you can do other things the game offers, like all other BGS games.

The universe/world in any good RPG is a character in it’s own right.
What would Morrowind be if it didn’t take place in vardenfell?
And if the focus is this hand crafted experience, why would they dedicate (I’m assuming due to BGS’s relatively small studio size) a large portion of their resources into generating a thousand planets when they could’ve made a truly unique, hand crafted handful of planets and systems with their own cities, caves and space ports and the like?
And Bethesda’s past 2 major titles have considerably toned down the RPG elements of their games into a much more streamilned casual experience, I mean from what we saw of starfield’s perk system (already a bad system) lacks any depth or build variety, oh cool we can now do 10% more damage with bullets, so cool, hey remember when we had to invest into stats, traits, birthsigns and specializations to make a truly unique character that could float, jump across, the map or kill the final boss with one swing of a hammer?
      Must’ve been a fever dream.

Regarding npc hit reactions. They all react visually, unless running or locked in an animation.
9:22 The npc was locked in a "transition from kneel to standing up" animation. There was also a lot of blood flying.
9:35 The npc was in a running animation.
10:12 This will be the norm.
10:32 The normal flinch seen again.
12:00 Running pirate flinches only once still and hit behind cover.
12:04 This npc flinches while walking and getting shot.
12:07 The npc does flinch and bends backwards as the first shot hits.
12:22 The player misses every single shot, but the pirate reacts, hunches over and fires back.
Hope this give some more insight into how the shot reactions work.

For boarding an enemy ship, I assume you have to first get through the shield and THEN you have to disable their engines. Then you can hopefully board before they can repair the engines, if it works like that. Each module seems to have its own health rating so you may be able to specifically target modules, so there is possibly reasons to pinpoint your attack on specific modules aside from disabling engines-- I assume it may work similarly to how you can target modules and disable an enemy's thrusters (or anything else on a ship, such as their weapons or shield systems) in Elite Dangerous.
Disabling thrusters so you can board is likely a big part of pirate gameplay (just guessing of course).
I also assume you can jump to most of the 100 systems even with a small jump range, as long as there are stars on that route that can be reached by your jump range and you have the fuel to do so. This is another Elite Dangerous-style thing. You'll just be able to travel quicker and more efficiently with a ship that can jump further distances, AND there will likely be some relatively isolated systems that require a ship that can jump further ranges. It remains to be seen how arduous refueling is; I think it'd be interesting if it actually takes some time to refuel and ya can't just jump jump jump like you can in Elite or NMS.
I'm curious to see how fast travel works in Starfield, since allowing you to fast travel across the galaxy would seem to undercut the idea of the whole thing.

I bet it works like Elite, where the hull and mass factor into how strong the shield can be (but we'll see how the details are-- you can see hull and mass affecting the shield rating in the ship stats screens though).
The wavy lines around the ship on the far-right screen when inside the cockpit is also likely the shield, including its current percentage, along with a hull percentage underneath (again, think Elite).

I think Earth is most likely destroyed in the Starfield universe. From my understanding of what we know about the main quest so far, a large focus is placed on finding "Old World Remnants" or something along those lines. This would imply that the old world is no longer accessible.
On the other hand, I believe that 3 major cities have been revealed/leaked so far and Todd Howard said that there would be 4 major cities in Starfield. Even if you were an originator of a system (Bethesda) like base building in earlier games, doesn't mean that you can't take inspiration from games that come after. There is nothing wrong with that. Sometimes seeing parallels also gives people a feeling of familiarity which can also be exciting. There is no harm in acknowledging it, it doesn't detract from this game in anyway or imply that Bethesda won't have their own unique system. It's just an observation, primarily on aesthetics at this point because no one here has actually played it

I've been waiting for this video haha.
Also 48:45 like you mentioned during the crafting section, it appears that individual parts have their own health values, I think the health bar shown is a health pool of all the ships parts and if you want to board a hostile ship, you'll need to take down their shields and immobilize them by destroying their thrusters, or other means.
I think it's really cool that the ship building system seems to go deeper than just constructing the ships, and is also used for their destruction.

we have seen no ground vehicles, not even npc ground vehicles, so I would ere on the side of tempering expectations. If we don't see it, don't expect it. Not to mention, driving on the ground would be a big part of the game if it was in it, and WOULD have been mentioned if it was going to be in the game. My say is 99% chance there is no ground vehicles, and 100% chance that modders will try to address that (to varying levels of success).

I think they made this game for the modders. Sure, they made some cool stuff in it, stories, features, etc but where this game is gonna shine is when the modders add in a super hard-core survival mode with 100s of hours of new content, stories, planets, side quests, and of course, Thomas the Train in space. I'm here for it.

The pirate in the beginning that didn’t react to being shot in the back was in an animation. This is common in 90% of games when a model is in an animation it has to get out of the animation before being able to shoot back or react at all. Not a very good criticism in my eyes but oh well.

Multiple set backs with the release, lies, etc. I just want people to be wary as they get into Starfield and not get too excited. No need to have more disappoint than we've already had. Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, just want to be realistic.

Imagine if earth were the fourth city they are being silent about...
You go to earth to discover that it has become a bustling mega city world with two or more orbital rings circumferencing the planet, and the moon has become park where they try to keep an image of what Earth used to look like before humanity ruled over it.
Of course, that's not happening, because New Atlanta is the biggest city, but you could explain that the player couldn't visit earth because earth has banned all people associated with the war of ten years ago.

@@marcusbergman6116 I just hope they don't lock a lot of content behind story progression when it shouldn't be. Fallout 4 couldn't take a lot of advantage of the roleplayer's alt start because of how the game was designed far more linear than their other titles. There were several steps you had to take to get to certain story beats, areas, interact with some NPCs, etc. In Fallout 3, you could run right to where your dad was and free him, bypassing all of Megaton, Galaxy Radio and Rivet City in the process and it made sense you could do that if you were just randomly exploring around. Can't do that in Fallout 4, need to find and rescue Nick, use Dogmeat to get to the fort and fight a boss, and you can't do any of that out of order because the game locks you off otherwise. I hope they learned their lesson and Starfield is far more open.

RE: Integrity of settlement beacon - From what I heard Todd Howard said, I believe that you have many settlements that you can set down. However, they will degrade at a specific rate (prob depending on climate, etc). So, that's why you want people there while you are gone. This makes sure you don't set settlements on every single planet willy nilly. They want you to have to make hard choices (I guess?)
