I was kind of joking, I wouldn't say that specifically, but for example when I started taking drum lessons my teacher hit me with the question, "what do you want to learn," and in retrospect I should've said "drumset" because that's all I wanted to learn. Instead I said I just wanted to learn to play the drums, cause I hadn't even considered how many different kinds of drums there were, and I spent a lot of my lessons learning snare drum, and only doing drumset sometimes.

my mom made me take guitar lessons for a month when I was 16 as a "punishment" for being caught smoking the devil's green my guy sat me down and taught me the first half of One when I deadass already knew it but was too non-confrontational to bring that up i sat through the entire lesson
99% of my students are starting from scratch. I usually know if they'll be good if they can play Ode to Joy (high E and B string version) by the second or third lesson. I know if they'll be really good if they can get something like Knocking on Heavens Door by the third lesson. However, I had a girl who couldn't play the F note on the high E for a few weeks, but she kept at it, didn't give up and plays a bunch of Beatles songs along with some other stuff. This was in less than a year, so you never know. She was also learning to improvise on the E minor pentatonic scale.

Better than violin lessons. My instructor almost kicked me out because I was showed her something I wrote for my guitar. She didn't think the beat on one bar added up (it was a guitar pro printout). I kept mentioning that until she got so frustrated she said "well if you want to act like this you can just leave" Then she got a piece of paper to do the math and found out I was right.
