How experienced are you, where do you live (which state and/or country), and what instrument(s) do you play? Depending on those answers, I’d probably be willing to join.
I'm 62 and starting a band! Been playing for 2.5 years, but practice daily and am getting better. Started playing out at a nearby pub, and was accepted to play with this loose goose outfit. It's a blast! Gaining confidence in the meantime. I have a vision and am going for it. So, do it, and don't wait!
This is such a sweet and accurate video. It is not embarrassing to be a beginner because there are so many other beginners out there! more so than there are professionals. What is most important is just starting somewhere, imagine how awesome it would feel to be in a band that starts as beginners, and progresses into experts.
From experience whenever you’re starting out it’s better just to watch professionals people say that it’s important to watch people playing the insurer they are playing and people don’t get how important it is by watching and copying other people you want to making good habits instead of bad habits
@@NerdiellaVT yeah good habits are what build a strong musician, messing around and not learning or doing basic music theory is bad, as well as not frequently practicing

I can’t wait! I have been practicing and learning and practicing and obsessing for years now over my first gig… i very much can relate to John Mayer when he talks about playing alone in a room just preparing for that moment. I learned how to improvise to get my chops up. The moment that I’ve always been waiting for is rapidly approaching. I can’t wait. I can’t wait to see how my moment is going to hit the eye rolling haters who scoffed at my dreams the whole way. Their eye rolling fueled me. It gave me goosebumps when you got goosebumps. Thanks for inspiring me a little more. Appreciate you.
This is a great video! Love how motivating it is. One thing I will say though (as a guitarist for a rock jam band myself), you cannot just go into a band immediately and learn the instrument at the same time. You really should have about a year of experience with your main instrument (and maybe others). If you lack this experience, an issue may arise where your bandmates want to play more technical and advanced things, but you are be unable due to a skill gap. Also make sure your band is all on the same page about what you want to play because if half the band are country fans and half the band are Slipknot fans, there will likely be some arguments. Basically, what I'm saying is its ok to be a beginner, just make sure your band matches your skill or it may get awkward pretty quick. Love it!
Dear Sadie, I heard your song at the song talk podcast - it is AMAZING! - and now, your supportive encouraging video - thank you so much! You really talked me out of my heart (is that proper English?) - it's for already a year that I keep on thinking and saying I want to be part of a band and I never started the initiative, but you are so right - I have to start and do the first step! Thanks for kicking me in the ass! 😉
Hi Martha, thank you so much for this lovely comment which truly made my day. I'm really making all of this out of heart, thinking "what did I need to hear when I first started out?" and it is now the best reward and feeling to see it is impacting another person's life. Thank you for following your signs and getting here. I'm sure there is a super exciting journey ahead of you. Good luck with your band and feel free to come back here and keep posted about your musical path! :)
I've been in too many bands because I've been searching for musicians who have their act together. I've been looking for musicians who push themselves and challenge themselves to be their best. It's nearly impossible. What I DID find was extraordinary musicians in various countries who are interested in recording and collaborating on projects. I think we're in an age of multimedia, while the old times of bands like Mötley Crüe and KISS are ancient history. Local bands are fine, but the venues will probably only have 80 people coming out to see a local band.

I can really really stress what you said: there´s nothing quite like being in a band and playing music - it´s just so f****** special! Keep the attitude and the joy and fun!

I have been doing karaoke for 20ish years and I am told over and over again how great of a singer I am. I would love to be in a band so I am definitely searching for tips how to get started.
What if there no scene and you know that your town will be predominantly against any heavy music. There’s not a single venue that you know of to play in either, bar, clubs, backyards, under bridges. Nothing. Honest question should I just wait till I’m old enough to move to a city with a handful of bands or a scene?
Thank you for this question. I lived in the same type of city where music was banned for the most part (religious extremism). I am inspired to make a video on this but short answer: perform on the internet as much as you can like online open mic, IG live, TikTok... And find like minded people in your own town to form a band. Even if it has to be a secret one for now. And yes! Make a plan and leave your hometown. It will help you grow immensely! Until then, keep working on your skills. I'm rooting for you! :)
This has been a dream of mine since I was four years old but everyone I knew discouraged me from the idea now I'm 40 I just want to record an album just for my personal collection just to know I did something with my idea before I leave this world behind ❤
I was playing lead guitar in several bands for 21 years total. I have spend around 12500 DM (that was roughly $7000 back then) over the years but we never made a living out of it. It was just a hobby. Being a professional has some serious drawbacks. Being on tour means sleeping in a different hotel room each night, being on the road for hours each day and unless you got an army of roadies you have to pack all the stuff until deep into the night after playing your butt off for 2 hours. I did that a couple of times and I hated it (not the cheering audience of course). Regardless, after all it was the best time of my life. I am 63 now and all what's left are memories but I don't want to miss them . :) To make a long story short: Do it by all means but don't have your expectations too high or reality might bite you in the ass.

I’m not sure about that thing Sadie said about “you can pay to be in a band”, that’s the same vibe as paying someone to be your agent as an actor, when an above board one would see your talents and believe in your ability enough to take both of you places, then they wouldn’t ask that of you, because they’ll already get a percentage of what you earned! (Unless this is like a college or high school band where you have to pay an instructor or to rent out a space.)
Thanks for pointing this out JG, I should clarify: so there are music schools that have assigned teachers (for example a professional guitarist or drummer) who would lead the band and teach newbies how to do their own parts in a band. During Covid lockdowns, I discovered one of these schools in Toronto and paid a 3 month fee for the studio rent + that assigned teacher's hourly rate. Yeah I know it's best not to pay, but the advantage was that I got to play with some professionals who pushed me to my limits. There was definitely a lot of growth in that experience for me. :)

I have a decent voice I'm still working on it but I'm gonna get my first guitar soon which I will practice alot and study to get really good as quick as possible. And when I have a vehicle after I get enough money at this job, then first thing I'm gonna do is go on apps looking for serious dedicated musicians looking to join a original band, and also go to music stores posting ads for musicians to see aswell. Just need some good chill people that are easy to get along with and work with, and with the same serious music goals.
I was a music major. What I learned was if you want to perform then you need to practice in front of a live audience. My recitals were graded, yes graded. This is where you learn a song or piece and know it backwards and forwards. This helps in performing. Then it is how to work with the sound system, the mic and so on. Have fun with music and it will pour out of you. Go have a chance@

God I love this video you put out there your knowledge and passion towards music not to mention you're probably the most beautiful woman I've ever seen is the complete package I hope all your musical dreams come true and you certainly have helped me with my own
It's quite difficult in the United Kingdom. I have been trying to get another band together for over a year. The drummer moved away and then the bassist decided to retire. Since then I have met up with a few folks but the attitude has been quite negative. I even faced snobbery for not having a Fender Strat. I have, I just didn't take it that time. It is also really difficult finding places to practice. Even then it is difficult to find local venues to play, even for free. The expectation is that your band is a live jukebox able to play anything note perfect. Of course I like to do covers, but I like to work out new arrangements that fit the band. I like to do original material too, but many new musicians reject the idea. Good musicians are serious and want to get paid. Newcomers sometimes still expect to get paid but struggle to put in the hours to get better. One tip I have share. If you want to join a band or perform live then start practicing standing up. You will be shocked how difficult it is to play standing when you are accustomed to practicing sitting or slouching. Oh! Unless you are a drummer of course.
Thanks everyone for all the kind comments! ❤️ I have just uploaded the video for 2022 motivation for you a musician. Check jt out and tell me what you’re thinking for this year: ruclips.net/video/U-FyIFeH670/видео.html
I just wanna play with some other people! It's not anything much about money, I just want play and have fun =w= tough i can't help but worry id mess everyone else up ~•~ !
I'm worried about finding good people to play with . . . people who not only want to play the same music as me and are good at it, but are also nice people to hang out with. I don't wanna be stuck with people I don't like, lol. I also like to write music and want to find someone who would be a good collaborator. I want to be in a band sooo bad but I'm picky with people cuz I just want to hang around nice and encouraging people
I understand, but you won't have to be stuck with them. Shuffle through and give people a chance, if they weren't a fit move to the next ones. You would only know if a band works out only if you try because musicians have layers lol. Good luck!
Hi Sadie! This is a bit off subject but I really wanna ask you musicians. Do you think it's okay for a vocalist to have 2 different bands (I honestly like D.I.Y. punk, alt rock, even some folk, trip hop and even hip hop and wanna have a band who can do a bit of everything instead) doing originals? I am new to music and it has been really tough for me this past year to just start, find people who get my vision and keep things consistent. I have broken up with 2 bands, and the collaborative relationships that I've had were a hit and miss, people dangling me a record deal when it was just sexual harassment etc. The only 2 songs that I have are really punk-y and normally with other punkettes, to form a band they tend to be really just punk-y all the way, only sometimes they might try a bit of alt rock? To be honest, I'm trying to have just 1 band to focus on or just to have a bunch of collaborators to work with before I get 1 band apart from juggling my day job/s. Or should I just enter so many bands while trying to run my own songs as solo stuff? Or collaborate with as many people, run my solo stuff and find bandmates where we get each other? Also, I'm kinda starting this at a late age and I'm getting worried that I have no progress eversince I created those 2 songs with the band I have broken up with almost 2 years ago. I'm not sure if you get me, but yeah, I thought maybe I should just ask a musician like you. Thank you.
Be a solo. Discover who you are portraying and what this person thinks. Read Iris Murdoch. Develop an understanding of what someone's thoughts and preoccupations reveal about them. Express all of that in your embodiment of a character as a lyricist. Don't worry so much about genre or even metre in your songwriting, focus on melody. Bon appetite! 🎉
@@ModernConversations Hey thank you. I am at a better place right now, more music and stuff. I was asking the same question if I should be solo or not just very recently.
Go have a chance@
i really wanna be in a band
i really like the arctic monkeys and i wanna make music like them but everyone i know isnt into arctic monkeys or that genre, im also young too so i dont think anyone would take me seriously
im tryna write my own stuff instead of having a band but its difficult, music can be so difficult at times
I’d be down to join an indie band. What instrument(s) do you play?
I am a Junior in High School and I have been STRESSED about graduation, even though I still have a year
Should I spend this time practicing then when I graduate look for bands around? Or should I start now? Because even though I really want to join a band now, I feel like because of my age we would have to wait to go anywhere
I am in my schools jazz band if that counts for anything haha
I want to be in a band.....I write songs, can we make some music together?
@@TheJokerandTheJean How would that work?
@@o3ilvert We can make music together. Can you share what platforms you use, maybe their id. I can share you the lyrics. We can have a video chat whenever needed. We can make it work, it'll be fun!
@@TheJokerandTheJean the most I've done so far is write some lyrics (i probably need to go back over them) and a few guitar riffs
For programs i use, I've just messed around on band lab, I can't afford anything fancy
What genre(s) are you interested in?
Thank you so much ❤
Somebody did knock on my door and asked me to be in their band.
Hahaha great! It would be amazing to happen for sure!😍
I have a friend who has two bands, and I've been wanting to ask him how he created them and if I could colaborate, but I'm quite scared because I don't want him to feel like I'm only getting close to him because of that. He's not such a close friend and we practically just got back in touch, I don't want him to feel like that's all I'm looking for him for, but I would really love to ask him ( sorry if my English is a little confusing, it's not my native language)
@@akuerelle7630 your English is perfect!
I think you are overthinking it! Just ask to play with him one day (don’t ask to join his band before playing together and seeing if you are both a good fit). Once he sees how you play and of there is chemistry, he might offer you to join. But honestly act cool about it, like it’s just for fun😊 good luck!🙌🏻
How about how to find a band that will accept you without experience? Just saying. And open mic doesn't always work either.
Nice I'm not prepared but I will do it!
I'm learning guitar n piano for 10 years where can I audition?
This is reslly off topic but where are your shoes from ive been looking for ones like those for a while
I want a rock band honestly..
Great video Sadie!
I've been in 2 in my life
God I love this video you put out there your knowledge and passion towards music not to mention you're probably the most beautiful woman I've ever seen is the complete package I hope all your musical dreams come true and you certainly have helped me with my own
This is such a sweet comment. Thank you! I’m happy you’re enjoying the content. Check out my latest video!
I like this video makes me feel confident
I love music because very good dance at it. I have friends
hey, beginner drummer in LA if anyone needs one. unfortunately don't have any equipment or practice rooms available tho
Thank You!
Can u talk to me about this plz?

Yeah I want to be in band...
I just wanna play with some other people! It's not anything much about money, I just want play and have fun =w= tough i can't help but worry id mess everyone else up ~•~ !
I want to join a band, please help me join your.
This video helped a lot!
I think I got an answer but you reaffirmed it. Here is a music video I just released. It requires an open mind, it's just a song about my ex. ruclips.net/video/bqptPoYxW-Y/видео.html
Anyway, thank you so much for your kind advice and care to a complete stranger. I really appreciate that.
