  • Ian reviews the Firewire LFT Glazer: www.boardshop....
The Firewire LFT Glazer surfboard boasts some instantly desirable curves and looks like a board with plenty of 'flow'.
Rob Machado's Glazer model is named after his friend and test Pilot Todd Glaser who's been riding numerous versions of this board for almost 10 years! Rob has been working closely with Todd, modifying and fine tuning the Glazer, adding a little width here and a little bit of thickness there...until they finally agreed that it was ready to introduce to the surfing world.
The Glazer is all about versatility, appealing to a wide range of surfers of differing abilities and being a more than capable sled in anything from knee high to overhead waves!
The Glazer has all the indicators of a really surfable board; wide point sits directly under your chest so it's going to paddle fast and catch waves early. The Glazer is only being produced with a 3-fin setup but this still offers some really exciting fin options; fast and loose with a large set of twins, add a stabilizer for a little more control, or how about a standard thruster set for some control in larger waves?
Linear Flex Technology (LFT) replaces the Rapidfire internal carbon rods with an 18mm wide composite Springer HD Suspension System that runs from nose to tail and includes a top-deck sheet to improve compression resistance. This high density insert creates additional strength through the centre with increased flex through the tail. The EPS top sheet buffer above the HD Springer allows for some compression but without the raised ridge and cracking that can occur with traditional wooden stringer surfboards. LFT delivers plenty of 'TWANG' in and out of your turns and creates the fast-twitch flex response that gives the surfer the feedback and return desired.
The staff here have surfed pretty much every surfboard in the Firewire range at some time or another and we speak to surfers from all over the world and get their feedback on how the boards perform in all sorts of conditions so we're well placed to talk about all aspects of Firewire surfboards. We're happy to consider trading in your old board against a new Firewire, so If you have any questions about this we'd be delighted to answer them and advise on any potential board choices or enquiries you might have, just drop us an email to info@boardshop.co.uk or call us on 0044 (0) 1243 674250.

Dominator II is a bit more high performance and will handle a bit bigger waves then the Glazer. The Glazer works really well in small surf. Gets speed and glide with little effort but pivots really nicely from the tail so you can still crank some pretty hard turns. I have ridden my Glazer in overhead surf and it handled o.k. but really excels in the head high and smaller range. I have not tried the Dominator II but I owned an original Dominator and it worked well in a wide variety of waves from small to well overhead. Probably one of the most versatile boards I've ever owned.
