- On little more than a whim, we decide to buy a sidecar motorcycle and go traveling on a second season. Our plan is to head to Europe and travel for a few months until it gets too cold. In this episode, Will flies to North Dakota to pick up our new rig while Cat gets to fish in the White Marlin Open.
Cheers,
Cat & Will

Hang in there!!!! Its going to be a great adventure. I was told when I was 16, by a 93 yr old man that had so many regrets in his life, "Never live to be 93 and only have one story to tell over and over". So true!!! I did 9 days on a Honda vtx 1800 and saw 9 states and camped the whole time. It was the best trip I ever did!!! (i now have 519,705 miles logged on a bike). Safe travels to you both and keep the rubber side down!!! lol.
This channel just got WAY interesting! Why?Because its super unique to travel in a sidecar!Cant wait to discover more with the two of you!
Before touring in Europe, you might want to tour in the USA first. Just to get the hang of it in your home country. I realize you're probably well into your adventure, so this advice is probably pointless. Have fun and be safe out there!
BTW, its common to have fasteners loosen from the vibration, so check your fasteners frequently or be prepared to lose stuff. Loctite is your friend. Especially on a Ural.
As an owner of a Ural Retro sidecar outfit myself I have to say Congrats! I enjoyed your sailing videos very much. I was Suprized you had to go so far to buy a retro as they are pretty common here in the Boston area anyway. I am sure by now you have learned the ins and outs of sidecar driving. So much more challenging than a motorcycle. I look forward to following your new adventures. Be safe and watch those left hand turns, cheers!
Dorthy, looks like you aren't in Kansas any more. Hang there you all. It's not a boat, but a new adventure. We all love you for it.
This is so much fun to watch, thanks for letting us participate in your adventure. The choice of motorbike, humho, ... well, I know they are niche-popular as they are the only ones that come with a sidecar. You will be way better mechanics when you get back. Over here in Europe, even the dealers tell you that the sidecar is ok, but the motorcycle a little less.
Enjoy your adventures, I look forward to watch them...
I can't believe you came to North Dakota to get a sidecar. That's where we live-we live just outside of Grand Forks! small world! Good luck on your new adventure.
Really cool series guys! Will definitely be tuning in when I can :)
Loctite and lock wire are your best friend on any bike, dirt bike, 4 wheeler,etc... Throw some in your tool bag/box and keep it with you. Safe travels.
I can not wait to watch this season of your travels! What an amazing way to tour, Europe, I know you'll love the journey. :)
You guys are so spot on. Ofc its scary and full of trepidation... but name 1 thing of historical greatness that wasn't. I enjoy how the two of you negotiate through your quagmires. You are perfect and you are lost. That's exactly how you you should be feeling, and i like things that are exactly right. Press on with caution (as you are) and let us live our lives vicariously through your endeavor. I just love watching you guys.
Wow, what an adventure, just like beginning every new adventure, take your time to learn what it takes, than have fun doing it!
Great video...great story...great music...you guys rock! Be blessed on your new adventure!
Shared your first video to our 3 wheeled vehicle page on Facebook ( the missing wheel ) hopefully you do well on your adventure. ive crossed many countries on motorcycle with and without hack. You trying it without testing the waters is very ballsy . Stay safe out there people on cell phones dont look. I actually have time to watch your video because someone on their cell pulled out in front of me and im home for a few weeks recovering from a broken hand and hip. remember to TEAM RIDE that she should always be the second set of safe eyes helping look out for hazards. Hope i can see you out on the road
When are you guys leaving for Europe ? Keep in mind we are going into autumn here all across the EU so, rain, ice rain, hail, heavy wind, storms and even ice, snow/snow blizzards will be on the horizon very soon, you've got to have made it into the deep South of France or out of Northern Italy before that kicks in atleast !!!!
Oh my goodness! You cracked me up when you switched to the bike being in the truck . So funny!
Wow! Looks awesome guys. We're looking forward to following along for this adventure. This is bringing back some great memories from our dual sport moto trip through Baja. I'll be in Germany soon, maybe we'll cross paths!
Great personalities Cat and Will , have safe travels .
This should be fun to watch..... Just remember you re starting off completely new to this and it will take a little time to adjust - hang in there !!
You guys are just awesome. Don't change a thing!
I love it. What an awesome unique way to travel! So envious.
New adventure you two! Make the most of it! Enjoy! We ride a two wheel and we love it. Has not always been good but most of it has. Love the sights and smells that you don't experience from a vehicle. Just like on a boat, weather can make things nasty. But you see so many beautiful things!
Nothing like a Chardonnay serving tray on a Ural. Cheers, C.Perry
Saw my first Ural some 15-17 years ago and was truly intrigued. Interesting to see how she holds up for your journey.
How was your first night on the boat? Probably not the best either. You guys are nuts, and that's why we love you guys. Sounds like quite an adventure that many of us wish we had done when we could. So I look forward to living vicariously through your next adventure!!!
Pretty cool new adventure!
Thanks for taking us along.
Happy Camping
Awesome adventure on a cool bike. We've toured a lot around the US on 2 wheels and I can tell you the absolute best accessory was our AEROSTICH riding suits.
That bike looks cool! I was a little skeptical at first because i enjoyed your sailing videos so much, but this might be fun!!!
Co gratulation to your licens fore the bike!
I Love that modell to from Ural. The gas tank
Is Great! 👍😁
Yep my favorite model to! Realy nice, hope you have still lots of fun and drive safe!
Hey guys! Just stumbled on this video. I bought my M70 new in 2014. No regrets! I've been camping in it, and have gone on a few road trips in Washington and Oregon. I plan to do a cross-country trip at some point. Anyway, great vid, and I'm going to be watching your others too.
Prayers for a safe and magnificent adventure!
Just keep going...you will figure what work and what doesn't on the fly. One thing about a bike is that you are out in the weather...not getting away from that fact...so just like the yacht journey...prepare prepare prepare...njoy...and get your mindset ready...easier to handle setbacks with attitude rather with an altitude...lol
awesome video, sweet bike, best of luck on your decision still a loyal follower whatever you do!
Stay strong! I'm excited to see your adventure!
Love the Sidecar. Reminds me of a WWII Army Sidecar. I have two motorcycles and love riding. Would rather have a boat but love riding This is a great adventure. Since it looks like you will be camping you should look into a trailer for your bike as well if it has the power for it. That way, you can tow more creature comforts. May be too much for now, but at least in the near future. Safe motoring.
I agree with Cat's Mom, but I can't wait to see where this leads you! Be safe!
You'll be right guys... Slowly but surely, just keep getting up and heading in the direction of your dreams and you'll get there... Looking forward to seeing the next steps as they unfold... ;-}
Great episode - nice to see things coming together. And I didn't realize you two were from Philly! I liked the teaser for the next episode too, but make sure you don't give too much away in those. No spoilers! ;)
Great video Guys you will do good and I will be watching. Ride safe
At least on a sail boat you can crawl inside out of the weather. A good tent will be key. Good luck.
Let the adventure begin!
Get a couple of bottles of Loctite, just think cobblestone streets in Europe. I forgot about all the bugs while camping. I see a few Hostels in your future. Good luck and have fun.
Looking forward to your adventure. I spent some time in GB and learning to drive on the opposite side of the road is something you have to think about all the time. I know cause I went the wrong direction several times, you have to concentrate concentrate concentrate at every turn. Be safe and as one person wrote about a 93 year old, I am 71 and wish I had done what you and others have done on the sailing videos...now I get to watch them not as fun.
Have a fantastic journey, Will and Cat! Keep posting, we'll be watching! XOXO
Nice documentary . Cool people doing fun stuff . Just love it :-D
I love these videos, wish I was young again and had enough money...so cool. Enjoy the adventure!
Had a motorcyle for many years. Wish I had a sidecar. Safe riding, especially in wet, cold weather.
You might try to get Loctite to help sponsor your trip. I just got back from two months in Europe and had a great time ( I do this every other year ) . You will meet some real characters in your travels there. Just the history of the roads you are traveling on is fascinating. I saw more people touring on bikes this year than in years past.
Invest in lock-tite. You will need a lot of it.
If you plan on Germany stay away from the Autobahn, not a good idea to go with a sidecar were there is no speed limit. Besides, you see more going on smaller roads, the Autobahn is basically best suited if you go from Northern Europe down to Italy, and in a car! You just floor it - traffic permitting - and you cruise through Germany into Austria pretty quickly and over the Alps into Italy. Stay safe and take your time.
Nice episode and concept.
ICYMI, the winner of the OC WMO, Kallianassa (Naples, FL) was disqualified after landing the sole qualifying white marlin -- worth a record $2.8 million USD payout -- for seemingly falsifying the catch card and landing the 78 lb white marlin before the official start.
You guys should go on a narrowboat adventure while in the UK. Check out Cruising the Cut -- I bet you guys could score an invite. I also recommend East Anglia in general, for a good snapshot of life in conventional Britain. Very nice countryside and tons of friendly faces.
You guys "got the fire" keep it going!!!!!
Loving the new adventure!!
Looks like fun. Great looking bike!
what a difference from sailing to riding, I must admit I prefer the sailing but I shall follow you guys. safe journey
Humm...how about, sail to the med, put the boat on dry and tour Europe in a side car? Oh wait, you guys sold the boat....BRILLIANT!
Safety is certainly a concern, but look at the bright side... You are much less likely to sink, for the next 12 months! Going to miss Paradox, but we might be able to get used to this new adventure.
Oh man! You guys are the best! Cat you really know how to make things interesting!
Own a 2011 Retro (my avatar) and 2015 M70, 2012 M70 very good choice! Plus it has the baddest badges IMZ ever offered and only on that year of that bike! Enjoy!
One great thing about sailing is that you don't need to be as watchful at intersections for people that could turn left right in front of you! It happens way to often on bikes and causes many injuries and deaths each year, mainly due to no protection like steel sides or airbags......please be very cautious at each intersection, especially so in Europe. It would be terrible if that happened to you two neat people. I know there will be many times when you will remember how nice it was to have your boat-home with you......
I bought my Ural in 2000 and kept it for 5 years. It was a constant battle to keep it running. Valve adjustments, tire issues, ignition problems, blown pistons, generator cracking. Even so, I loved that bike, but in the end I had to let it go. Hopefully the newer versions, with electronic ignition and the larger engine are better.
The new EFI bikes are much better.
Looks like you could use a wind/rain screen on the bike. All the best you two adventures! 👊😎👍🍻🤘
Awesome!!! this is a great video!!
love it guys
I hope part's for that bike are available !
Adventure starts when things go... different? Whatever you decide about the side car, you are already on an adventure, just a new chapter. Some chapters may be shorter. Who knows what other doors this new chapter will open?
Adventurous souls! Love it. In your travel planning, did you first decide you were going to tour Europe and THEN decide on the mode of transport or was the sidecar always the mode and the destination decided afterward? I am looking forward to seeing Europe, guys :)
Y'all are awesome! Keep it up
Wild trip coming up ! Do you already have your bike license Cat or are you going to leave Wills to do the driving? I'm really happy to see you with some protective gear on. Bon voyage
Awesome video. Just bought a 2016 Gear Up. You have to check out the guys at Ural of New England. They are in Mass and are amazing. Biggest Ural dealer in the US. if you ever need anything with their bike. They are the guys to go to.
Good luck to you both be safe 👍
I am afraid Cat's mom is right, you guys are crazy !
Hi Cat and Will! You two are nuts! That's probably why I like to watch your videos. I'm from Philly (Berwyn to be exact), but living in Switzerland. If you're passing through Switzerland, let me know. I can offer you a bed in Zurich, Flims or Gerra, Switzerland. Let me know... Bill
Thanks Bill!!! We may just be passing through Switzerland in the next few weeks (we're a bit ahead of the videos and on our way to Amsterdam in the next two days before heading south). Can we stay in touch on facebook? Our page is facebook.com/mondaynever
you guys are all over the map, i'm trying my best to keep up. luv ya, just don't leave me in the dust, please
hehe guys this new adventure will be very interesting, that sidecar thing looks cool
Awww miss seeing you guys on the boat....but love following you nutters anyways. :)
HI - Just a suggestion - stop by a hardware store and buy the medium grade of loctite - (grade 203) - when bolts start falling off - pull back on with loctite 203. How did you end up buying the sidecar - craigs list - ebay? regards
I think your mom is right!! side cars are kidney busters I rode 130 miles twice and both times my lower back was screaming "get out and don't ever get back in!!!" good luck , I would rather be sailing.
I have to ask...where did you come up with the idea for a side car????? LOL...TOO FUNNY! And i have a condo in Ocean City MD and was down OC for the White Marlin Open. My cousin fished in it (Lucky Duck II). Very cool you were in OC!
shame you didn't have more time in the UK, you're missing the best roads which are way up North. Happy travels.
Fascinating... I can't wait. But, HOLY COW....
You are AMAZING ! Keep on trucking ;-)
good luck guy's
You can do it!
there can't be much space for camping equipment in there, how are you guys packing the bike? it's such a cool idea to take a ural to europe!
A period of adjustment is to be expected. I think riding in Europe will easier than in the U.S.
Nice Ural I have a 1962 Ural sidecar cycle.
Nice looking bike. Will you have any issues getting parts, etc... when you're in Europe?
Nice video ! How would you rate or say about the rig reliability ?
Good luck, my vote is have a blast, drive it to Key West. Then sell it at an inflated price, buy another sailboat and keep making great water videos. I worry more about your safety on a bike vs sailboat because of all the damned idiots on the highways, plus roughing it camping out every night sucks.
I own a 2005 Ural Patrol 2wd and I'll tell you...there's nothing that makes one Ural cooler than the other enough worth flying to ND for. You'll learn that though in time.
I'm a little pissed off! A "driving test" with a side car is way easier then no side car. Anyway, I'll get over it. Congrats on day 1!!! Safe driving and keep the mouth closed at speed, unless you like the taste of bugs. LOL!
How can you tell a happy biker? Bug spattered teeth. Though I can tell you getting bee stung in the face often is no joy, so kudos on the full face brainpans.
So funny story... Will actually got stung in the face YESTERDAY while we were out riding. A bee got him right in the eyebrow. And yes, I filmed the whole thing.
The philippines islands is waiting for you guys..
Cool kids wear lids!
oh yea MENTAL!! LOL have fun guys
Let me know when you get to The Ace Cafe in London.
Good luck.
Haha, omfg, you bought a IMZ! Those are tough Russian motorcycles! I didn't know that they were still making them, lol.
Hi guys. I've been following your adventures with a huge amount of envy and excitement and can't wait for the side car adventure !!! Just make sure you hit Norway in Summer though as it is some of the best riding in the world. I have a question though. How do I subscribe to the new adventure or can I stay with this one ? I did a small amount of research into the Ural it's built in Russia and has been going since 1946 !!! It reminds me of the old Russian Patriots. It will do you proud I'm certain :-)
I thought the sidecar thing was a joke !!!!!! certain parts of Europe aren't that safe anymore.good luck and be careful .
