Cheers to Amsterdam, our new Favorite City (EP 28 - Monday Never Sidecar)

  • When we started this trip - we had only two firm plans. First, fly to England. And second, visit friends in Amsterdam. In this episode, we get ourselves to the Netherlands by way of a potentially risky ferry ride into France. And then spend a couple of glorious days living it up in what quickly becomes our new favorite city. Yes, our criteria is easy... can we live on the water and have friends with similar interests? Check.
    We also realize that we are happiest in life (and definitely in a sidecar) when it is warm and sunny. So we finally make a plan and decide for the rest of this trip to make a sharp turn and head directly south to the Mediterranean before it gets cold.
    Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoy!!
    Cheers, Cat & Will

    In 1960 my Dad took us across from Calais to Dover in a VW van. When we crossed into England it rained. When we got back to French the Sun came out. My Dad was with the RCAF and as kids we camped all over Europe. Bringing back memories.

    Amazing how the guy on the wall didn't move his legs. A tad protective of his spot, eh?

    • @thatdutchguy2882
      @thatdutchguy2882 7 лет назад +2

      Yep, don't fuck with a Dutch guy's spot, especially if they notice you are a foreigner. he got there on time to sit on the canal not to let just sombody park a boat in front of him on his spot,....Germanic manners, it's the same in Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, etc.
      We mean nothing bad by it, it's our respective culture, when in Rome....

  • @parkwest11
    @parkwest11 7 лет назад +1

    At first I was wondering about your choice of motorcycle but then it dawned on me it was a brilliant choice... you can park that bike just about anywhere and never have to worry about someone trying to steal it. 😉

    • @Mondaynever
      @Mondaynever  7 лет назад +2

      haha - nope! But parking has actually been one of the best things about this way of travel. We've been able to get into places where cars are not allowed. We are almost never charged for parking. And (so far) it's been completely safe on the streets.

    Hey, welcome to Amsterdam! Great choice taking the "warm" route. I'm curious to see how long the bike will hold up, it's not like you can buy spare parts for it at every corner..... Why didn't you go for a more generic type? Even if you ditch the bike, keep on travelling. Make the most of this trip and I can 100% recommend travelling to Croatia and sailing there for a couple of months!

    • @Mondaynever
      @Mondaynever  7 лет назад +2

      We'll definitely get into how we're feeling in some of the next videos. But without giving anything away, it's a very different trip than the last one - and has come with its own set of ups and downs. Some days, riding is the single best way to travel. Other days, we are very over it. But so far we and the bike are holding up well. Knock on wood, but no issues yet!

  • @aboutchris9192

    I have a friend that has a Ural and I told him about your trip. I told him about you talking about your top speed, he told me to tell you they get faster when parts start falling off. It is always easy to travel in good weather just like sailing. I take it the boat in Amsterdam was electric? Have fun.

    • @Mondaynever
      @Mondaynever  7 лет назад

      haha, we'll keep that in mind! Knock on wood, but no problems with the bike yet. And yes, we've quickly learned that it's just as important to look at the weather before taking off. It's GREAT when the weather is nice. And really, really miserable when it's not :)

    Very interesting game of chicken there at 7:15. Guess that guy wasn't all that worried about his legs getting banged up between a stone wall and a metal boat. It's a shame your mode of transport is limiting you to going south. The north has far superior scenery (imho) and is less touristy.
