Mcgibs, did you know Rick Steves is a HUGE proponent of recreational and medicinal marijuana legalization/decriminalization!! He has done tremendous work in Michigan and several other states fighting for our common sense right to use, possess, and cultivate cannabis. Definitely a man of culture!! You might not guess it but Rick tokes the herb haha. Seriously though, he's done some really great work helping us to get common sense cannabis legislation. Only made me respect him all the more. Cheers bud!
I lived in the Netherlands for nearly 15 years. I loved the Dutch people for many reason, and fell in love with their country. I even learned their language. I highly recommend this as a FIRST STOP for visitors who have never been to Europe, as the people are bilingual for certain, yet are likely to speak 4-5 languages. You won't be disappointed. HINT - Take a B&B and you'll learn a whole not more of the people, the culture, the history, and city.
This channel is a dream itself. To all τhe people who create, work and produce here you're creating much more than just travelling content. You're creating will for life! Thank you.
I was in Amsterdam last summer, and I have been to most of the places in this video, people are friendly, food is just amazing 👌I think Netherlands is my favorite country in the world 💯
"Throughout the Netherlands, places selling marijuana are called "coffeeshops." For decades now, the Dutch, like many Europeans, view marijuana as a soft drug - like tobacco and alcohol. Marijuana use is tolerated. But hard drugs are strictly forbidden." -Rick.
I could have been in this. Haha. I was cycling with my young daughter in her childseat in front of me when I got stopped by Rick's crew, if they could film me for this travelshow about Amsterdam. I was quite suspisious because I never heard of Rick Steves, but finally agreed. Three times I had to cycle towards theme. Unfortunately we didn't make the cut. :)
Amsterdam have the right idea with regards to marijuana. It should be the same all over the world. Just my opinion. The store clerk was so spot on when she said, "in Amsterdam, we believe it's better to tolerate than to put people in prison." So true!
I don't know, he seems kind of naive. He referred to buying unrolled cannabis as "loose leaf". Who says that? In one of his books he referred to blond hash as "white hash". I wrote to him and he actually wrote back and thanked me for my correction.
xCoreProductions that was my thought exactly because the Netherlands is the country that supports soft drug use. Well one of the only ones anyways. I think it’s really cool that they give freedom to do what ever you want pretty much.
Recently started watching your videos. Have fallen in love with your creations, so well researched, wonderfully articulated and beautifully captured, a lethal combination. ☺
Went there in October 1993, fell in love with a wonderful Dutch girl, loved it he people, food, cannibis, beer and the city has an incredible intoxicating free happy energy. Best city in the world.
One of the best travel videos I have seen ❤️ great places shown with great insights. Perfect script.. Almost every other line can be a caption to a picture and it will be a small little story in itself.
Great work Rick!! I just realized this one was just posted today! I enjoyed all your videos and i hope I could travel in Europe and learn all diverse cultures like you did. You are awesome!!
Besides the big two of London and Paris, Amsterdam is my favorite European city. The canals are so beautiful. I like how the trams run in the middle of the street. It's also cool how most people ride bikes- the city isn't congested with trucks. There are a lot of hot women in Amsterdam. I don't smoke weed, but I respect the rights of those who do. It's a victimless crime. As for prostitution, live and let live. I personally would've pay for sex since I wouldn't sleep with a woman who has been with so many guys. However, a person should be able to do whatever they want with their body, as long as they do so safely. The Anne Frank museum is a must-see 23:20 Vondel Park is beautiful. I love the diversity of Amsterdam
I visited Amsterdam last summer, and I think it might be my favorite place in the world so far. The people were so friendly and the food was amazing. The city was beautiful and riding a bike around was very simple. I hope to one day visit again or even realize my dream of living in Europe. Can anyone recommend a city in Europe that has a similar vibe to Amsterdam?
+Conner Hendrick Perhaps look at other cities in The Netherlands. Groningen, Maastricht, Utrecht, Den Bosch and Nijmegen are some of my favorite places!
Lisbon - A "forgotten" capital of Europe. Almost same view on soft drugs and very open, vibrant and colorfull.. and much cheaper than most european capitals, with lots of sun
Thank you for this video of Amsterdam. I can highly recommend to visit Utrecht or Amersfoort too. Or Noordwijk at the sea, with the beautiful beach-clubs (it just looks like Ibiza), the Efteling themepark, that is better than disneyland Paris. Or beautiful Middelburg of Maastricht. All preserved so very well. Oh and visit the really Dutch ‘living’ museum iN Arnhem. It will be as if you walked into the Netherlands 100 years ago. All these city’s are a lot quieter then Amsterdam. And much more ‘real Dutch’. And about the drugs I can say that children at school get a lot of preventive lessons about drugs. They have to learn what it does to you body (as sigarettes and alcohol) and people who were addicted come tell their story. You see a lot of drugs in Amsterdam (tourists) but not really much in other villages or city’s because of that. Most people under 45 years speak fluant English. They have English lessons at school from the age of 4. The older Dutch people can speak French or German better. They had more lessons in that. So if you speak English as your native language you just can speak English here, no problem. Welcome to all the tourists!!!
And if you ever go to Amsterdam or Haarlem (idk) i suggest you to just wander around, get lost. It's cool to see parts they don't tell you about on the internet. Being Dutch myself i know alot of cool places in Amsterdam you never hear about. So i suggest you go just wander arround. If you're lost you can always ask for help, i'm sure alot of people are willing to help you
yes true the best way to explore amsterdam is with a native and when you take some hits from the dutch you will get lost anyways but amsterdam is so nice to walk trough
Amsterdam was an absolute beautiful experience! Can't wait to return this summer This video was originally one of the biggest inspirations and helpers when I was planning my trip last year Thank you for all the amazing info and looks into all of these incredible cities/countries
Age and health forbid me from travel. Thank you Rick for your wonderful presentation ions. Clear and understandable introductions to each country. I so enjoy travelling with you. A sincere thank you.
It’s true because I’m an artist in heart and would like to visit every museum in Amsterdam at least for a week to immerse myself in Van Gogh’s life and his arts. am crazy about his sorrow, passion and the talent. I don’t think he knew himself.😢he just wanted paint everything around in his short life. RIP.🙏♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Nice city/country to look and live, my record to Holland is more then 50 times at 1996 begins. Sailing on cargo ship specially to Amsterdam and Rotterdam harbour/port , but visited by tourist myself 4 weeks also. Amsterdam tall ships festival was impressive.

I watch it with alcohol. Sober, too.

They cut out more than that in the red light district

TJ Anderson for me if you like it and doesn't hurt your brain and is a soft drug, and also doesn't affect me. Do it, I don't care
Ik right! We should behave and approach some
things like the dutch!
TA 5
TA 5 just so everyone knows. Less than 1%. Of prison is for marijuana. He’s lying
"What would one gram of marijuana look like?"

I don't know, he seems kind of naive. He referred to buying unrolled cannabis as "loose leaf".

The Rijksmuseum alone is worth a visit to Amsterdam. Truly a magnificent museum where one can spend an entire day!
Favorite city I've been to in Europe. Busy but yet doesn't feel hectic. Everyone just seems to be relaxed and laid back
Awesome video of Amsterdam! Thank you for producing it Rick. I never leave on a trip without your traveling guide. Thank you for producing them
