I lived in Bavaria (Augsburg) for 3 years while in the US Army. You cannot appreciate its beauty until you see it in person. The German people are very proud of their country and they are very environmentally conscious. The cities are very clean and the people very warm. Munich has so much history. Someday, I hope to make it back.
Same here! I was there last June with some family, and it was a dream come true for me. I had always wanted to go to Europe since I was young. We visited Munich, Stuttgart, Feldkirchen, stayed a night in Vienna, and went to Salzburg. I actually cried a few times while on the trip. It was breathtaking
It doesn't get any better than Bavaria , the history , culture , Architechture & the wonderful people , then you have the Bavarian alps , just heavenly , The people of Bavaria have a lot to be proud of , all this from a scotsman
Likewise. I have some relatives who love travelling to Scotland and do it on a yearly basis. Both for the landscapes and the cities. The Scotts I personally met were also very nice, especially after having downed some Bavarian beer🍻.
I went to Neuschwannstein several times. Once on a school field trip dragged my family once and then took my daughter and brother to see it. My daughter helped give the tour with the tour guide.
Dear Rick, I live in Munich since many years now. Today an American friend sent me your video. I love it. Thank you so much for this wonderful presentation.
Having just come back from Munich, I am not sure to be more amazed of the art work and history or the fact that the city was completely rebuilt, including many works of art.
I like Rick Steves' narratives, so watching his programs is always a pleasure for me. And Munich is really a very nice visit. But I would add the "Deutches Museum". A unique museum
Bavaria is absolutely stunning. I was there 30 years ago. I visited the castles of Ludwig II. I remember sitting on the balcony of my hotel at night, looking out to see both Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles light up at night. It really felt magical. I've been to Munich twice and it is such a great city. Would love to go back.
I'm visiting Munich next week! I am incredibly excited, this is my first time on the main continent of Europe, it looks like the most beautiful place in the world!
Hey Doug....we are going there late fall (mid-November). How many days did you spend to visit all this region? And does traveling in late fall makes sense?
mid- November is the worst time to visit middle and northern Europe, concerning weather and many tourist locations are closed then. For example places in the nice nature are not able to visit. But the climate Change will give you a little chance that you can get nice weather even in November, but usually it is windy, rainy and cold +15 to -5 degrees Celsius.
Well, I personally think Berlin is terrible compared to Munich ;-) And I know many other folks from Berlin who share my opinion. So what exactly makes you think that yours is the right one? I guess it really is a matter of personal favor.
Well, I could at least give the same amount of arguments pro Munich and contra Berlin. But like I said, it is simply pointless to discuss something that completely basics on personal favor and preferences. Therefore, I find it somehow wrong to tell somebody "this is the better city because xxx...". Just let them find out for themselves :)
I was in Berlin several years ago my previous visit to that was many years before the Berlin Wall came down. I was amazed at the changes that had already been made and the way this great capital city was being returned to its former glory. I wouldn't even attempt to compare Munich with Berlin both have their own attractions and I would urge people to visit both. If you visit Berlin then prior to your visit go on the internet and book a visit to the Reichstag I gather it must be booked in advance so I was disappointed. However it is a city I plan on returning to, I want to do the river cruise along the Elbe and also repeat the Berlin city river cruise a wonderful way to see the city.
Bavaria was my favorite part of Germany. I miss many things about Germany such as October Fest and the beautiful Alps. Thanks Rick Steves for the tour and reliving my memories.
Just returned last Tuesday from an AMAZING 11-day adventure to Germany (and Austria). So many wonderful and beautiful things to see and do, and much to learn; my senses went into overload, lol. This was my first trip; I'm most definitley going back:)
Visited Munchen once recently and to me it was the nicest town in Germany (been to different parts over the years). One striking feature is that every eatery has beer and every time you eat you've gotta drink different beers in humongous mugs. Another striking fact is that no matter how many beers you drink a day, you never get drunk, unlike American beer, flat but alcoholic. A third striking feature is that the typical German (or what they consider Bavarian) homes are located in a small part of the town, the rest are typical new European design like boxed multi storey apartment buildings, each of different colors. The Marienplatz is the hub for people and is the main attraction for everyone.
Wow what what a lovely beautiful country ,everything is excellent and perfect. Someday visit ,thanks for your lovely video, god bless and peace to all of us

When I was in Bavaria (65-66) I loved to drive the back roads on a day off of duty until I would find a gasthaus a la 'Cabaret' and have a lunch of sausage and kraut, a dollop of mustard, with a liter of bier. Nothing finer in the USA.
