In 1971 I was touring around Switzerland in a Tanus Camper Van. We stopped for lunch at a Road overlook. We just began lunch when there was a rumbling behind us up the mountain. A cannon soon appeared & fired a shot high up into the mountains to start a small avalanche. Quite a surprise!

This video inspired me to visit Switzerland and I did it. I was able to visit most of the places mentioned and I enjoyed it very much. Thank you Rick!. Out of the more than 30 countries that I have visited, I could say that Switzerland has beautiful countryside and is still the best country for me. I wish I could live there. It's to me, heaven on earth! Mabuhay!

It amazes me how honest the Swiss are. I went there during the summer once and there was a field of all kinds of flowers and plants for sale where you can hand pick the ones you want and there was a tiny shack up front with nothing but a list of prices and a bowl with money in it. The shack isn't even manned, nor is the field fenced or supervised. People pick their flowers and literally pay at their own integrity.

Iv been skiing in that area as its all under one ski pass, trains included. Its absolutely stunning! We arrived in the dark to out hotel and the next morning ate breakfast as it got light my partner said to come look at something... Omg I literally lost my breath at the North face of the eiger rising up in front of me!!!! It's worth ever penny to go there ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have been to atleast 50 countries ,but I can say that Nothing like Switzerland- in terms of beauty,nature , cleanliness, people , engineering marvel and efficiency.
Best public transportation in all of the world in Switzerland, overall Good quality and ease of living.

Until just a few years ago, every Swiss was required to study two of their native languages. Now, they have to study one of their native languages and English. Business.

I have been traveling to Switzerland for over twenty years for work. The amount of English spoke is a blessing for an American. I have a little French, enough for train tickets, food, etc, and just the common courtesy words in German/Swiss German but have always been able to get bye. Not everyone speaks English, particularly in the older generations, but almost all young people do and when they say "a little" it is simply them saying it is not their primary or strongest language.
So grateful to live in Switzerland. I love 🇨🇭❤️. An amazing country.

Hi Doug, I quite agree. Everytime you visit it robs you of speech. We just got back and can't remember a trip where we said "Wow" so often!!
Visited twice in early 80’s because of his book Europe through the Back Door and it was so beautiful and wonderful to visit!
Undeniably; HEAVEN ON EARTH, and kudos to you all for keeping it that way.
I visited all these places in Switzerland in 1987 and again in 1989. Unfogettable experience.At Schilthorn I had a cable car ride to Piz Gloria and had coffee and snacks at the revolving restaurant.

Love the fact that these Swiss villagers are all trained in fire fighting just like ship crews and smoke like sailors. Both share extreme isolate where the nearest emergency help may be hours away so this makes perfect sense.

I was in Switzerland last year and this country amazed me very much! Great country and powerful landscapes.
We were in Interlaken in 2016 staying at Jungfrau Hotel one of the best hotel in the world Will come back one day Love from Australia
We just returned from one week staying in Lauterbrunnen and we explored and skied in the Jungfrau region and it was wonderful. Like Rick Steves said, you don't need a car once you arrive. One pass (buy in advance online for a discount) and you can access all trains, gondolas and lifts as much as you want. Thanks Rick, your tips were invaluable to making our trip a 10 out of 10!

Back in 1997 I had the pleasure of visiting Lugano, Switzerland with a tour group. It was a great experience, Later I had the opportunity of flying over the Swiss Alps.

The Jungfraujoch area was amazing! Enjoyable! I LOVE Switzerland!!! Recently, I found that my AncestryDNA includes Switzerland, Germany, France, etc. N.W. Europe. Aside from the UK and Denmark, the N.W. European countries were a surprise, but not completely, because I can relate to them. Learning French and German came to me fairly easy.
