You say that a good reason to get the X1T and not the pro, is the X1T has the hotshoe in which you can place an old manual flash. I have both this trigger and the TT350 and a couple of manual flashes. But I would not use them this way. Either I'd put the TT350 on top of the camera, and trigger the the old flash with an optical trigger; Or I put the TT350 off-camera; the old flash off-camera too; and use an optical trigger again (preferred setup).
Or I can use the old flash on-camera, and switch the TT350 to optical trigger. In no situation would I need the X1T's hotshoe. So, what am I missing?
@@gmaas1418 Using the x1t hotshoe helps to minimize setup. In my work in real estate, this allows me to shoot in very tight spaces or awkward rooms with one tripod and one light stand. Otherwise, I'd have to carry two light stands and a tripod. Many times I just walk around a room while hand holding the 2nd flash and don't bother with the light stands at all.
This is now my 5th video on the TT350 and yours was BY FAR the best video. Explained everything in layman's terms, and even demo'd. 10/10

As good as the OMI clearly is, tbh, it's above my budget.
Will remain with my 2 mint Pen Fs and an OMD E 10 Mk IV ( purchased new at a significant discount).
I have rarely used flash, apart from OE flash on my Canon 6D.
Tbh, I find flash a little intimidating 🤪.
Part of the problem is that it will be used on, essentially, human subjects and mainly indoors to compensate for the lack of available light.
I have looked at the various options and, as you have recommended, find Godox does all I want- and in fact far more than my,very, limited abilities.
In the past, with my Canon 6D and 2nd hand Canon flash, have obtained reasonable results by deliberately using only TTL.
This may be a little too tame for many,however my only aim is to obtain reasonably exposed images.
Whilst there is a cheaper Godox, my preference is for the more expensive, but still just 1 up "from the bottom". Only intend using Apeture priority and TTL.
Not very adventurous. The more expensive, but still way cheaper than an OE flash,it has a more powerful GODOX battery that will enable much faster recycle times and will avoid the need to purchase Nimh batteries and recharge etc+ plus those batteries have a nasty habit of being misplaced by me.
In time, I may purchase a quite cheap softbox and mount that on the flash head. Also, may possibly purchase some coloured plastic flash head covers.
Am aware that separate flash stands are not particularly expensive, however, regrettably believe that the sight of this equipment would simply frighten unwilling subjects.
Should you have time, would appreciate your views, or simply a link to a video where you have used the more powerful, but not that expensive, Godox flash.
Btw: I sent funds several weeks' ago, a small amount given the immense amount of help provided by you, particularly with the lovely Pen Fs.

Hello from New York City! What did you do to avoid color temperature problems? Noticed there was not CTO or CTB gel on the flash. Thank you for your informative video.
I had a good blend of natural light and flash, so color temp looks fine without gels. Indoors in artificial warm lighting I'd need to use gels or overpower the ambient light.

How's this... Camera and Flash in manual exposure. Get the background exposed the way you like - I often choose a bit darker background. Now don't touch the exposure of your camera anymore. With flash in HSS mode and manual, take a test shot. Adjust the manual flash exposure up or down until your subject is at the brightness you want. That's all there is to it! Easy as pie...
Personally, that's how I usually do it. I was actually working on another tutorial like this. But same can be done in ttl. Just dial in -1 exposure comp in the camera, +1 on the flash and done. No test shot needed.

Lots a great affordable softboxes out there. Look for one that has a hot shoe mount or head clamp to hold the flash.

I just bought this flash, and I know it has a master function. So, if I were to buy a second one, I think I could just use the first one as the trigger with full TTL information. Correct?

Yes, you can control up to three groups with the Godox TT350, so you don't need a trigger.
Hi Rob. Do you know how fill-in flash can be used in TTL mode with a camera that meters ambient light using S, A, P or Auto modes so the combined ambient and flash light are automatically balanced?
My experiments show that Olympus and Sony systems, for example, always bias exposure for flash instead of ambient light, regardless of whether the flash manufacturer is a camera brand or third party.
Using Manual mode for either a flash or camera fails to use that wonderfully accurate TTL metering. So far, I find only a camera's Slow Shutter mode allows balanced TTL metering with a flash, but for more flexibility I would love to be shown otherwise. Do you have a solution?
Wow, that's a great question. I tried dialing in -3 flash comp and +3 exposure comp. In theory this would reduce flash and raise ambient but cancel each other out for a balanced expouse. On my E-M1 III, the camera still metered for flash and the exposure was -3ev under exposed. However, on my Panasonic S-5, the camera reduced flash output and raised ambient for a better balance. I was using my godox tt350. It seems it depends on the camera programing, so you'll have to try this on your camera/flash combos and see if it works. If your using Olympus, instead of slowing the shutter to raise ambient, raise your ISO to increase ambient. This will reduce flash power needed and balance flash/ambient exposures. I tried this on my E-M1 III. At 200 iso the flash was stronger than the ambient, at 800 iso, the flash/ambient balanced evenly. Again, you'll have to experiment with what looks best since lighting conditions change. Hope that helps. -Rob

It's pretty much the same flash but would probably have faster recycle times. It seems a bit pricey for what it is. Personally I'd stick with the tt350o and get some amazon pre-charged AA, generic charger, and an x1t trigger for about the same price.

When you put the flash into FP (HSS) mode, the camera will detect that automatically and go into FP mode.
Great video, thank you very much. Subscribed. Since the TT350 has built in master mode I was thinking that getting a pair of these flashes and using one as on-camera master would be a lot more versatile than just 1 with a dedicated transmitter and not very much more expensive. As far I could tell you can even switch off the master flash if you only want to use an off camera flash fully synced in TTL mode. What are your thoughts on this, if I may ask?
Thanks. Yes, that all works. It's a great option to just use 2 tt350s vs tt350 + trigger. That's why I love godox, it's flexible.

The X2T-O is now only available I believe. Have you any experience with this, do you know if it works the same?
I don't have this trigger but it should have all the same features since it has to work with the same flashes as the X1T. The extra buttons replace and make easier accessing individual groups.

Question: Did you change a setting in the camera to enable high speed sync. I have this flash with the em1 mrk2 and it doesn't automatically go to a higher shutter speed like on your example.

Hi. I just checked on my em1-ii. When I flip the switch to high speed sync on either the trigger or the flash on camera, the sync speed goes to 1/8000. Make sure you're using mechanical shutter mode and in an area where the light is bright enough to push the shutter speed over 1/250th.

Problem with Yongnuo is getting the right trigger system to match. Since this is your first flash, should be no problem, but when expanding you have to be careful you match the flashes with the triggers. With godox, you don't have to worry. Any trigger will work with any radio trigger flash. The Yongnuo I reviewed is cheap, powerful, and has a great optical trigger, but your limited to full manual.
Rob, Do you know whether the Godox tt350 would link with Vello FreeWave Mini wireless trigger. Thanks. From your videos, I think you have both.
It works fine but the vello is a single pin trigger, so no ttl or hss.

Hi Rob, greetings from Indonesia. I'm just watching your video and you always have nice description. Actually I'm looking for my first flash and I've seen this flash price is fair enough for me. How about the weakness of this flash? I'm beginner to photography and actually I like to do a macro photography use 60 mm plus a raynox.
It's about right for it's size, but they offer a full size tt600 which is about 1 stop brighter. This means you can shoot at iso200 instead of iso400. In practice, it is not a big difference. You are basically trading size for a little more power. That said, in full sun most flashes will struggle anyway. You really need to step up to a full 400watt or 600watt speedlight for that. I recommended this flash for having just enough power to do most things and small enough to easily carry with you. When you get better with flash, you can make a better decision about a more powerful one. I skipped the tt600 and went to the AD200 for my pro work.
I got into HSS a couple of years ago and at that time only Cactus brand supported Olympus. I have the RF60 but now I see they have introduced the RF60x which has TTL. I have got some stunningly gorgeous shots with off camera flash and HSS, sadly I dont get much opportunity to put it to use, so cant really justify upgrading. How does the cactus FR60 compare in flash output to the Godox 350? I have generally found the flash output to be enough because I have normally taken care to shoot mornings or late afternoons in the shade. But it is trial and error with the flash power. How good is TTL really when doing off camera with HSS and softbox.
Based on the specs, the FR60 looks to be 2/3 stops brighter. On a simpler level, the FR60 uses 4 batteries, the Godox 2 batteries, so the FR60 has the potential to be a full 1 stop brighter. Of course, internal circuits and their efficiency play a roll, so it seems the FR60 is doing a good job with double the power source. You probably would not have run into the lack of power output I encountered in this video. That said, most handheld flashes don't cut it anyway and you really need a powerful monolight in full sun.
TTL can make things simpler, just dial in exposure comp on the camera and the opposite on the flash. I'm working on a video to demonstrate that. But it's rare that flash output is accurate and/or consistent without paying a fortune, so even with ttl you need to do test shots or retakes. For beginner/enthusiast on a budget, I think any basic speedlight with ttl/hss is good enough and certainly will take their photography to the next level.

8:30 "...it looks underexposed and I believe it's because I'm outdoors..." -- no, it's because EVERY flash working in HSS mode drops its light power drastically. You can try your flash at its "border-speed" of 1/250 sec. (when it still works in its "normal" mode) and then at, say, 1/300 (when it's in HSS mode) -- and you may want to compare histograms for both pictures.
That's the problem with HSS mode: the flash gets "weak". There's a need to move it MUCH closer to the subject.

If you shoot outdoors in full sun, then you'll benefit from a larger flash. It's about 1 stop brighter.

@@RobTrek I have already bought a transmitter. Good thing is that with godox transmitter other brands of flashlights works as well :). So I currently have the godox transmitter and nikon flash. Works nicely. Need to find a faster flash tho. As mine goes only 1/125 s :)

@@RobTrek I've been using my Yongnuo Nikon triggers with my E-M10. In my experience with YN622 Tx and YN622n, I'm unable to remotely control the power of the flash from the 622Tx mounted on the camera. I have to walk over to the flash to change its power on the flash itself. No matter what value I set from the Tx, it'll shoot on the power set on the flash.
What's your experience in this scenario? Am I doing something wrong?

@Abbas Bin Younas Unfortunately, I sold off my Yongnuo flashes. I only kept the triggers. I'll try it with my Nikon flashes and let you know.
Tip: do not test things outdoor on a cloudy day, as you can see in the video conditions changes by A LOT. Clear sky or indoor if you want a more controlled environment. Thanks for the video.

@@RobTrek Ha ha, it's over in the yard behind. I saw it once then when you asked I had to go and look again for it and saw it twice more. Listen to yourself at 9.19. This gave me the biggest laugh! Try 4.42-50 then 7.34-39 then in the monitor screen from 7.39-47. We don't have those squirrels here so I love them when I see them.

I have a yongnuo YN550 for Nikon, which I have been using for 4+ years. I use it rarely for indoor shots. It does work (without TTL, of course) on my EM-10 II also and I love to reflect it from the walls or the ceiling. This Godox 350 looks very nice and TTL does make life much easier, but I have my eyes on 660. That one also has HHS and works on all hot shoes and they say that it is the brightest of all those small (non-pro) flashes and costs 70 USD.
This was a very nice tutorial for those like me, who has never tried HHS. Thank you very much for your time and effort. I will definitely try HHS for outdoor portraits on a bright sunny day.

I just got the TT350. You probably mean getting the T600? I looked at that too. The TTL really is a nice feature. It really works - when it's within the power of the flash, you always get a good exposure. No more manual fiddling and trial-and-error. Simply always right the first time. It's almost magic.

Hi. The auto iso is actually working, you just don't see the final iso setting until the picture is taken. Go into a room that is not well lit. Point the flash forward and take a picture. You'll get iso 200. Now put a magazine in front of the flash to block the light and take a picture. You'll see a much higher iso in the final image. Just be careful not to touch the front of the flash, it gets very hot!

I am puzzled as to how you got the camera to work HSS. Unless you are using a fixed zoom lens with a leaf shutter? I am under the impression that say 1/250th is max with a detachable lens. What am I missing.
By the way, I have the Godox TT 350 to use with a Fuji X100F, so this is a great demo for me. Thanks.
The camera and flash must both be hss compatible. No need for a leaf shutter if that's the case. Puts a drain on the flash batteries, but it works.

rob, if you use the electronic shutter for a speed higher than 4000, would that do the trick and allow you to keep a low iso?
In this specific video, going to 1/8000 would have let me stay at iso200.

Hi Rob, with my em-1 Mark II I have bought the godox tt350o (thanks to your video 😁) I thought to buy maybe one another for portrait light but I have a sb900 nikon do you think I can use it too in off flash? I mean I put it on a flash feet and use it in ttl mode.. Can it be compatible with Olympus camera? Or each system have frequency different?
You'd have to control the sb900 manually and set it to fire via optical trigger. Fortunately the sb900 optical trigger is excellent. Watch my other video on using off camera flash where I use the optical trigger.

Hi Rob Watching this video on the godox tt350 and trigger again,i notice you handled your flash stand"pole". I just thought if there is a spesific flash stand you would recommend or maybe do a short video on flash stands.. Just a idea.
Just get the cheapest one for now, anything will do. Make sure it extends at least 70 inches or more (200cm or more). I bought some more expensive Phottix P-200 light stands that have lasted me 5 years now. I can definitely tell the difference in quality/durability. But I'm really not in a position to recommend light stands since I've only bought the cheapest ones and this one set of Phottix P-200 years ago. There are so many to choose from.
