I think it’s not even about “what’s okay for children to read”, it’s all about censoring stories that show a different perspective than traditionally taught at schools. A common theme in these bans is targeting stories that inspire readers with hopes, dreams and in some cases even a sense of individuality. It’s so disheartening to see bans like these when in this day and age any type of reading should be heavily encouraged.

Book banning like this is so shameful. I had already heard about people wanting to ban Sasaki and Miyano, and that is laughable. It is a cute series about two boys who get to know each other and end up dating. I have no doubt that the people who want this banned are doing it because two boys holding hands must NOT be shown to the precious children…. What a shame. And honestly - another part could be just xenophobia, since manga is from another country.
Banning books is done under a desire to get rid of thoughts, ideas, ways of life, etc. that the person banning the book does not agree with. Banning books like this will always land these people on the wrong side of history.
There are books that are not my cup of tea, but guess what - I would never want them banned from libraries. We should want freedom of information and literature. That allows us to read books and be confronted with new ideas, stories, etc. There are some book series that helped me get through rough times in my life and gave me solace when I really needed it. With book bans like this, some of those series would definitely be banned. It makes me so sad to think that these people are wanting to deprive others the chance to find stories that really resonate with them, just because some of these stories do not conform to the book banner’s narrow view of life.
Yes, people can still get these books in bookstores and online, but I really hope these attempted book bans fall through. Succeeding in banning books like this would set a really bad precedent.

I can see why they banned Assassination Classroom in particular with all the shootings America had - but Sasaki to Miyano? That's one hell of a slow wholesome story. It's not Yaoi but only Shounen Ai, meaning there is no sexual content - it focuses on exploring your own feelings and how to come to terms with them. It's a very valuable story and I think teenagers who are inside the LGBTQ+ scene would profit from the read a lot. If it was something hardcore like idk Killing, Stalking - fair if they banned that. But Sasaki to Miyano is such a gentle story...... That's just homophobic to ban it.

I can understand the sentiment of wanting to keep a school's library appropriate for kids, but it's the double standard that kills me. Either ban everything even remotely violent or don't, but don't just go cherry picking which series should not be allowed 🙄. Like you said they really should just stick with the age ratings, in elementary schools they can do just books that are rated E and high schools up to T. It doesn't have to be any more complicated than that

People banning Manga and Books have such a narrow view of the world and they don't want anyone to have another way of thinking, fun? No way... They don't want kids to have that. Learn, scape for a little while, dream? Nope, they don't want that either.
They want kids to grow as miserably narrow minded, without an once of curiosity or wonder in their bones....

The PC movement is already trying to censor anime/manga before it's released in Japan. I only pray that Japan does not cave to this.

Sasaki and Miyano is so unproblematic, that it's boring but some pearl clutching American Christians will still make sure it's banned. Imagine it was your parents, i would disown them asap.
