With Beast Wars I've always felt that it's a bit like Portal 2 or Borderlands 1 or even Halo CE in that it's AGED, but there is a strong enough Art style and design that you don't really notice that age because every other visual aspect has such a fucking strong feel of, 'Yes, it's MEANT to look like this.'

Beast Wars has such an iconic look that any attempt to remaster it would just end up making it look worse. Just look at Halo CE Anniversary.
Tigerhawk started out as a TransMetal 2 version of Silverbolt before they changed him into a Tigertron/Airazor combo. That's why his beast mode has almost the same configuration.
I thought the Beast Wars animation looked antiquated, but then I saw Rodimus Primal's retrospective on Dinobot and I knew I had to give the show a chance, no regrets
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Tigerhawk's OG toy was meant to be an updated silverbolt at some point in development, hence the fact he's like, the only transmetal fuzor. Could be wrong about that though.
His chest model was from polar bear.

I still remember the part Tigerhawk said," Tigerhawk, I like the sound of that." is one of my favourite lines because it establishes the Tigatron and Airazor in him, having Tigatron's voice and Airazor's personality

They eventuely descided to release it and asked for him to be in the show which they did, only for Them to become unsure again and ask for tigerhawk to be killed off in the finale (which was right after his introduktion). The toy was eventuely released... a few months after the characters death.

Beast Wars animation has aged a bit but it was so cutting edge and the writing was so good its also aged amazingly. Rewatched the series a few months ago with my partner who is only somewhat into Transformers and now she LOVES Dinobot and Rattrap and was genuinely sad/upset that neither of them were in ROTB.
Absolutely, I'm not arguing that it hasn't aged, but it's definitley not ugly.
And of course she does. Those two are some of the biggest highlights of the show.

Y'know despite being born in 2008 and seeing so many shows when i watched beast wars i never really thought that the animation was bad. I just was like "it was the best of it's time and it still holds up today" i never really thought it was ugly. I really enjoyed it
Beast Wars is peak.
I don't care what people think. These characters are amazing. Usually the villans are one-note, bad because bad, generic villans. But in BW, they have solid motivations and personalities. The visuals hold up well, and the Voice Acting is stunning.

For your question for the BW cartoon yes it was sorta done to early for what it was but the animators really did do there best with for what they had and considering what the show went through in development it turned out great tbh if they redid the show with a updated background it be better the actors leave ‘em be no new voice cast just take the animation and slap some new models but keep the expression I’m not hating on the old show I’m just saying it was one hell of a show that was just the best from its time for a along time we could have ended up with it looking like energon not only was energons animation terrible its character sucked ass

Just got all the kingdom beast wars characters, so I decided to watch the show. It’s has story building like TFprime before TFprime, funny random episodes with episodes that build up the characters. Even the sequel series (though a lil ugly) still had a good buildup to me.
Glad you liked Beast Machines more than I do, but yes Beast Wars is soooo good. They handle mysteries so well, the characters are ultra endearing, and they got a really great Main Villain with that version of Megatron.
Beast Wars still looks gorgeous and so does this figure. Immaculate.

On the topic of BW animation, I think it can take a bit to get used too. But once you are a few episodes in, you just kinda adjust and don’t realize how dated it is. Kinda like playing a super old video game. You just gotta get used to it.
On tigerhawk, I am usually not a fan of BW designs outside of BW2 and BW Neo, but tigerhawk is cool as shit. His design kicks so much ass. Probably my second favorite design from the show, after Optimal Optimus. Even though I don’t collect BW figures, this new one has me tempted.

Personally I just find the artstyle of both Animated and Beast Wars hard to watch. Sure, it was great for it's time, but it's not a style I like. Prime's style is just much less offensive on my eyes as compared to BW. So, if they upgraded the graphics to be closer to Prime's, I would probably not mind watching it nearly as much.

Distribution has been absosmurfinlute ASS this time around. Haven't seen ANYTHING from Legacy United wave 1 in stores AT ALL, and now here comes Legacy United wave 2. It's this level of bullshit which caused me to miss Laser Optimus, Transmetal 2 Megatron, Tigerhawk, Animated Optimus, Animated Prowl, Animated Bumblebee, Skyquake, Dreadwing (why the bloody hell have they NOT done a Generations Selects Machine Wars Starscream by now? Or use Earthrise Doubledealer for Cybertron Defense Red Alert or Machine Wars Soundwave?) Aftermarket prices on TM2 Megs alone were insane WHILE HE WAS ON THE FEW STORE SHELVES HE LANDED ON, I don't see that gettin' any better. 😞

So in other words, this is more or less a perfect update . Especially for a Beastwars enjoyer 😁.
Speaking of the devil, from what I remember , I had a chance of seeing some of the show's clips on youtube WAY before I pernamantly became a fan of TF as an whole. It was the scene where Primal tryed to preserf Prime's spark , and my reaction to it was "huh, that's a really old, very wierd looking cut scene". As for "fandome saying it looks ugly" , I francly couldn't care less neither back them, and neither now. Especially considoring how stiff and plastic a lot of 3D show's look now.
But I do still have a gripe regarding the show desighns, specificly the heads. In short, with acception of Primal, I never liked, and still don't like A LOT of BW head desighns, especially the first sezon. I don't like the look of robot heads with animal features like mouths on the desighns.(Cheetor, Tigertron,Rattrap, ext) With my only acception been Silverbolt, cause his head desighn was cool.

12 seconds in and I agree 100%. This guy is awesome. Hope that 86 Swoop is also fantastic though he seems to be a bit smaller than the others (not by much, thankfully, not to mention it's cartoon accurate).
EDIT: I think this guy shows why the texturing in the show makes the designs appear ugly. The updated texturing makes this design look amazing, yet the show's texturing made him look cheap, annoying when the other later Beast Wars characters (hell, just several of the other Beast Wars characters in general) look great regardless of the textures.

Beast awars isn't ugly... just old. Keep in mind that Beast Wars was one of first full CGI shows. Image it with modern animation.

I watched beast wars after hearing u praise it to the allspark and back (and also the entire show is on youtube) and while the animation is very much dated (specificly the enviroments) the sheer greatness of everything else completly makes up for it and by the time of the second episode i stopped noticing the flaws cuz i was just having such a good time watching it. Seriosly its one of my favorite tv shows PERIOD! And i cannot thank u enough for convincing me to give it a chance.
Yeah, even as a Beast Wars fan, I admit one of its greatest weaknesses are the very plain outdoor environments.

I REALLY don't like Mainline BW figures. Even through Kingdom and now, I'm just not a fan of how un articulated most are in both forms or the amount of animal kibble hanging off most BW figures.
The MPs look great through, the extra size, derail, and articulation really help my issues.

I don't know that I would call the Kgindom Figures unarticulated in both modes? I mean these tend to move pretty good. The Rattrap sure was a brick, but most of them have a good sweet of articulation.
Now all we need is more Legacy updates of Transmetal and Transmetal 2 characters. Especially a transmetal Rattrap that has a backpack that ACTUALLY ROTATES!!!!

My sister personally HATES the Beast Wars designs, not because of the show's animation, but just the simple fact that these are robots with pieces of organic looking animal bits attatched to them, it UTTERLY DISGUSTS her. I personally don't see an issue with this as we've seen stuff like this in sci-fi before, such as the fake flesh on the Terminator, but I guess I can see how it would turn somebody off these designs. I mean, Cheetor LITERALLY his cheetah mode stomach as a gun.
I can see why she might see a bit of body horror in that but I think she should get over it obviously.
It’s odd seeing perspective end feel this passionately happy about a review. (Not that he’s overly negative just not THIS happy.) Never gonna trade it for the rage but it’s really pleasant. Tiger hawk must be a really good toy.
And on that note. I really hope somewhere down the line we get an 86 equivalent of beast wars. Shouldn’t be too hard since all you need is a small bit of retooling from the original figures.
I am better at rage, but I think I made a few really good jokes in this one.

I grew up with transformers Animated and transformers Prime. I then gave beast wars a chance and my goodness, best decision of my life. Amazing characters, great voice-acting and sound track, and a very well-written plot. Ofc the animation is outdated but you really get used to it and it fits the overall ‘feel’ of the show. People need to know that this was revolutionary for its time and it was the most expensive cartoon ever produced. Highly highly, HIGHLY recommended!!!
I'm so happy to hear that! Beast Wars is by far my favorite show in the franchise, and it gets weirdly disrespected by the people who've never seen it. People who have watched it don't have a bad thing to say typically, but so many who've yet to try it just turn their noses up like it's an Olympic event.

When i first saw this figure announced, i promised myself not to watch any tutorials on how to transform it, and when i finally got it in hand, that transformation actively changed my philosophy, and now i absolutely avoid transformation tutorials like the plague in hopes ill find a high of figuring out how to transform something as good as this again

I liked this figure, but honestly forgot it existed hahaha. I do get sick of people punching down on beastwars, It added so much to the fiction and saved the franchise as a whole.
They should appreciate it on that level alone, like no beast wars No Sparks, but noooo.

Personally I think beast wars style is kinda charming. It looks like a windows screen saver or those old computer companions (don't know the name of em but stuff like bonzi buddy).
I'm not sure what Bonzi Buddy is, but I do think that not only is it good, but the dated qualities are quaint and appealing in their own way now.
Hi PE. I finally got for myself an MP Skyfire. I got him at a discount, since this one has a wingflap rather bent. IMHO this Jet mode really did not need a wingflaps gimmick. I would have preferred solid wings. Anyway, while I am certainly impressed, there are definitely a few problems with him.
1) You said his transformation was good. We must have been handling different figures then. Skyfire's backpack keeps fighting me, when I try to shove in or out his arms, and when I try to compress his backpack. An unholy amount of force is required to close his backpack. I watched Emgo's vid, and noticed even he didn't compress the bottom part all the way.
2) I am genuinely worried that his white would turn yellow. Then again, FT Phoenix was white and didn't turn yellow, so maybe there's hope. But I have personally handled enough Takaratomy and Hasbro stuff to know, if there is one thing you can count on, is that white = yellow.
3) At least 2 reviews reported that ratchets of Skyfire giving way. One of them was TMreview. I don't think it's a widespread issue, but enough to be concerned about.
4) I know people don't like to leave his butterfly joint tabbed in, but I do. And my goodness, that thing likes to come out every time you move his arms.
Overall, I like this guy, but I worry about the longevity.

1 I don't mean to insult or anything, but I think you might be doing something wrong, if you have to put in that much force, something may not be in the right place.
2 I don't expect that it will, they are using more premium proven plastics in the MP line than Chug does.
3 I can say mine are still good.

I think WFC was trying to be more realistic anyway... like with Cliffjumper and Bumblebee being full sized-versions. And we seem to be swinging to cartoon so I bet we'll get the squished versions eventually...

They were going for slightly more realistic sure, but that didn't make the beasts fit better.
To answer your question, I got into Beast Wars after Watching Rodimus Primals retrospective on Dinobot and I saw how the animation was "aged" I saw that it looked very good and I watched it and I loved the writing of the show, the characters, and some of the humor actually made me laugh.
The animation is so much better than people want to give it credit for.

I don't get people who call beast wars ugly. Its OG resolution might not look that great, but that's why someone went through the trouble of making a 4K version of ALL the episodes. Which yes, might end up revealing more of just how plain the backgrounds are, but its not even that bad. Its a good looking show with a great story.

Old CG is automatically considered ugly for certain people. I know certain people online that weirdly give old cartoons animated on cels the same treatment.
Thr vendors more likely forgot Tigerhawk existed by vitue of being in a tiny number of episodes at the very end of the series. Hell, I only remember him because when i watched Beast Wars through about 5-6 years ago I was personally not impressed by him (I didn't hate him, but i just didn't think he was all that cool).
I'm glad he's so on point though. I'm always glad when a fan gets tthe designs they love.
I have a friend who REALLY wants to watch Beast Wars but can't because he hates the why it looks as that's the kind of animation he did in school back in the day and he can pick apart all the flaws (or something along the lines of that)
I did the same thing, I was trained in CGI. And yes I see the issues, but its just due to old technology. Try to get him to muscle through it.

I don't think it's ugly, it's just the environments we're rendered with technology that's out of date. It still looks better than Prime though. Prime had the advantage of decades of advancements in animation and a bigger budget, and STILL managed to have ugly, empty environments. YUCK!

I watched BW merely two years ago after decades of people shitting on it, and: I undestand primitive CGI, writing is good but what sinks it for me is the concept of robots disguising into flesh shells and therefore their appearence with bits of animals strapped on the body. I recognize the show's importance in keeping the franchise alive but to me it's nothing memorable. -just my take , though
That's my take as well. I prefer all-mechanical beastformers like the Dinobots that don't even try to look like they're made of meat.
You are right on Beast Wars, the show literally carried the franchise and arguably saved it. I'm G1 fan but I love watching beast wars. Tigerhawk looks very cool without a doubt, thanks for the review!
Absolutely, a lot of people act like the Bay Films saved the Franchise, but the Franchise was going strong at the time.
The Falloff in the intervening time between G2 and Beast Wars was serious, and Beast Wars is what put the Franchise on it's back.
And I'm happy to do it. Especially when it's on something this good.
If Beast Wars was redone shot for shot with modern tech it would blow peoples minds. That being said it is and always will be my favorite TF series
I would love to see it redone with modern graphics, but it's hard to say that it would get the love the original got. Like do you really see them paying the faces the same level of attention.

I always hated Tigerhawk, they are really ugly, and I hate that Tigertron and Airrazor got killed off for this abomination, only for the show creators to come to their sences and kill Tigerhawk again. Also since Tigerhawk is Made from both Tigertron and Airrazor, I think that makes them the first nonbinary transformer.
I don't view it as, Airazor and Tigatron getting killed off for this character. More that they were killed off, and later Tigerhawk got added as a redemption.
I also don't know that you can call two people a Non Binary, it's just two people, I feel like that's a different thing. Also completely fictional.

When I watched beast wars for the first time last year the animation didn't bother me. It's actually very impressive especially now that I do animation. It's just rendering is a but dated but compared to a show like prime where it looks like a blender animation that didn't have any actual lighting because while I still have a soft spot for that show but dear God it needed better lighting and cinematography and just everything really
Absolutely, I'm glad the Love Beast Wars got is evident on screen, and yeah as an Animator my self Prime is just so flat and lifeless in the lighting.
Love this figure but I got the weird QC issue where the hip ratchet in his right leg just…disappeared one day. Apparently this is common. I did get him early though, so maybe the issue is fixed. I can still pose his legs and the joint has decent resistance still, but it’s weird having one hip have a ratchet and one be smooth.
That sucks, but good to know that it should still have a solid amount of hold. That hasn't happened on mine, but it has happened on other figures.

So is this guy the character that’s basically a fusion between Tigatron & Airazor that got killed off not too long after his introduction because Hasbro decided to cut his toy late in development…only for them to release the old toy anyway? That sounds like a sad way to go… At least he’s got a new toy…
Indeed that is what he is, but at the same time, you wouldn't know it watching the show. Instead it's impactful and tragic. Really gets the emotions going.

Wasn't sold on him when he got announced but honestly he looks way better then I expected. Plus I just started collecting beast wars so that might help my perception of this guy.
I'm sure that having a collection he fits helps.
It always bothered me how the show got rid of Tigatron and Airazor, so I was happy to see this character show up. It was like having the characters back. A shame that they killed him so soon after his introduction.
It makes me so happy that Hasbro are making all kinds of Beast Wars figures, like Transmetal II and Fuzors. These are such cool and unique designs to have on a Transformers display. And yes, the animation is Beast Wars is way too hated. I personally think the character models looked really good at the time, especially with how metallic and shiny they looked.
Real talk what happened to them Scarred me as a child. But I've grown to kind of love it. It's so Abrupt and horrible, and it makes for a REALLY dramatic impact.
Oh my god can we just talk about how much I loved the Shinyness of them growing up. It was so Pleasing.
@@PerspectiveEnd The shininess is one of the main reasons why I feel that these models hold up. The first forms would look a little dated with the low res textures on the animal parts, but the moment we see the transmetal forms, they looked damn near perfect. So sleek and shiny. ^^

I did yes, I only tried to put them up under the armpit in the video, but I felt like that was enough to show that they do flip out.
I think my only major issue with this figure is the left shoulder. It unpegs from the tiger head every single time I move the arm back down
That is an issue, but one that I felt was minor enough to not care about personally.

i will say that when people bring up the argument that "beast wars is ugly" i feel like some people dont know between artstyle and animation the artstyle isnt ugly there are no characters in the show who are appalling to look at.
though the animation can be a bit rough is some areas, in my opinion. i say thid because there is a part in the show where cheetor runs to primal and gives him something but the item cheetor is holding is not in his hand rather is in his wrist and when he gives it to primal its in his hand, another exaple is dinobots transformation as the dino head chest plat just appears from thin air
but overwall beastwars is not an ugly show the animation still holds up though there are some rough spots
I know exactly the scene you are talking about. It's the first thing I noticed when I got my animation degree, I think that may be an issue with the parenting of that object.
Absolutely there are some rough spots, but Beast Wars isn't as rife with them as people like to act.

It's just a blue plastic sheet that comes with the lightbox I use. What do you mean Robo seems to have a similar set up?

Beast Wars rendering isn't even that bad. Plus for as early as it was made it's FANTASTIC. Most CGI stuff barely animated back then, and Beast Wars was out there with transforming models, wonderful VFX, and fantastical environments in some cases. The only visual issue I have is the texturing on a lot of environments, but I don't blame the for it due to the hardware.
I see modern MCU films that render worse, and those have no excuses.
The only thing I REALLY hate about BW is that there's no PROPER Shattered Glass story for it. I've been trying to take a crack at that myself on TFW20005, why'd you pass such an easy set Botcon? Cybertron, Universe, and Thrilling 30 gave plenty of beasts to use.
Also, wow I didn't even think of him/them being a Fuzor Transmetal (Fuzemetal? Tranzor?)

It's so great to have this, dragon megs, and potp optimal optimus! They all naturally go super well together on the shelf, I'd have to pick tigerhawk as the best of the 3, it's so damn good!

Bayverse Galvatron doesn't explode and reform, he turns into a 90s screen saver and reforms.
I mean, aestheticly, the Beast Wars guys are supposed to be a little ugly. Tarantulus and Waspinator are supposed to be kind of horrific. If the detractors mean a base level ugly look, i mean Rhinox pretty much ushered in the "lets give guys huge 1950s robot underbite chomper jaws" look used on a lot of modern characters. Cheetor has a great young hero-boy look. I just always chalked up the angry snarls and faces as 90s EXTREME and it fit. Dunno, the whole design effect makes BW unique, not ugly.
But there's a difference between things that are meant to be off putting, and the way the community sees the ugliness of this show.
@PerspectiveEnd True, and BW brought me back no doubt. I'm only replying in June because I just got this guy and he's stupid good. The only thing I miss is the hawk helmet for Kitty mode. I love the fading silver on the wings, the removable little twin wrist blaster, and how dynamic those wings are in posing. I had to revisit this review after messing with him a bit to see if I understood the love, and I completely do.
