Yeah that would be awesome if he can wrap his head aroubd the weird market. Probably should give him a loaded yp inventory with stuff and a shooting range on the hideout.
I would assume the "thin rails" are done as a way to save some polygons on the 3D model. Game devs usually have a lot of reference around when modeling real guns (sometimes even physical, actual ones), but when making a game there is always the consideration of "is it worth it to put too many polygons in just for the sake of a little detail?" Making a simplified shape too big would make the model uglier. So it's a mixture of optimization and artistic choice.
Kind of the opposite actually. The geo is there either way, it's just thinner. If anything you're more liable to run into z fighting and baking problems the thinner it is.
The shooting through the scope is indeed intentional for gameplay purposes in Siege. Siege had an arcade-y but competitive idea behind it so they chose it that way to have less inconsistencies etc.
It doesn’t seem that way. Honestly, it seems like an engine limitation. They took 6 years to fix bulletholes and one of the potential solutions (Rogue 9 discussed it) was to make bullets come from the barrel instead, it would get rid of melee holes and bullet holes and decided instead to opt for the decal solution. My theory though. But I honestly think if they could remove those ‘rat’ holes they would as it is unhealthy for the game.
@@speedyazi5029 It's rarely an engine limitation, you can make anything on basically any engine. Game engines are just the baseline with collision, world rendering and things along those lines, a big dev team can achieve any kind of feature on basically any engine. Bullets coming out of barrel just doesnt fit into a fast paced game like R6 unfortunately.
@Marc Michaud tbh I've been saying that about Siege since day 1, but then I suppose I'm a Raven Shield boomer. Kids these days don't know what they're missing lol.
@Marc Michaud You say it's an Overwatch skin now like it wasn't before. This game was designed with eSports in mind, and it was always a "Hero Shooter." It just lost any semblance of realness it once had.
@Marc Michaud it’s so funny watching people that played siege for a week 6 years ago cry about how unrealistic the game is now like it was ever realistic in the first place
Another banger of an episode. It seems as if you're already teasing it in the intro, but, you should take a look at Deathloop, for sure, as I'd love to see Jonathan's reaction to the two pistols that slot together to form an SMG.
Yeah, I was looking at the gun models in the game the other day, and I realized that on the Strelaks (The dual pistols you mentioned), for whatever reason the barrel goes all the way through the gun, when the gun is specifically set up so you mount the other pistol at an angle with barrel extensions on the side of each pistol.
@@Alex-no1rb Vanilla is nice, but the firearm animations are very bland, along with the sounds. The combat is downright horrible in most cases ,especially with the higher level enemies being so spongy and bullets shooting around them like a COD shotgun from a sniper. Funnily enough, I think that ability to breach which you talked about in the same segment, is also exactly the reason why they chose to have bullets "come out of the sight". There were probably a lot of frustrated players in playtesting making peepholes, aiming through them, and then shooting the wall.

4:36 bullets coming from the center of the player's camera/screen versus actually appearing from the tip of the gun itself is a very conscious decision devs have to make when developing a game. :)
I remember a R6S patch around the 2nd or 3rd year after it's release that made the "guns more accurate" and I do believe they made the bullet from closer to the aim point of the reticle, rather then the barrel because peekers advantage was a huge problem early days with 3 speed operators and defenders felt like they where always shooting behind the attackers because of the latency and "realism".
these are now my favorite type of videos on RUclips. Nobody in my life knows guns like I do so it’s great to listen to him and his knowledge and test mine. Gonna be sad when I watch them all.
I know it's late, but the Russian Op who has the DP27 and the Mosin grenade launcher is actually lore-explained for why he uses such old weapons - he's a history buff. Tachanka, in-universe, is known for his hobby of collecting antique weapons; the DP used to be his gadget and was an immobile deployable mount. Lore documentation and a cutscene actually poke fun at this, with other operators commenting on his favoring of ridiculously old weapons, and he's seen browsing an auction site for the grenade launcher (what eventually becomes his gadget when the DP was moved to his primary weapon) during a mission briefing.
@@Mr.Dinklebottom definitely not, it'd be interesting to hear what he thinks about it. sure some might hurt his brain (tediore for sure) but jakobs are sort of attempting to be realistic

1 tiny gripe, what happened to using the bolt release catch as opposed to the bolt hold open device from the doctrine? Other than that very informative
Wow I'm actually correcting Jonathan here on something. On the SA80 the "bolt release" that Jonathan talks about isn't the actual bolt release on the weapon, thats the catch you use to hold the bolt to the rear. The actual bolt release catch is on the other side of the rifle just above the fire selector switch. It's a black square with rounded corners that you push down towards the ground from the top of it to release the bolt then do your forward assist.
An episode i've been waiting for so long. A game with generally faithful representation of real world guns that work completely different due to the competitive nature of the game!
You should definetaly do a round 2 of this because there are a lot of other absurd weapons, and also I think it would be cool if he would take a look at some of the gadgets as well
Amusing that Jonathan mentioned the British adoption of a NATO standard on the SA80 and us being the only ones to use it. The exact same thing was true for the Chieftain tank and the dual fuel engine requirement - we did it, nobody else bothered. British engineers "We will build it to spec, even if it doens't work that well in some areas, because it's what it says to do!" :D

Just a heads up, on the sa80 the bolt release catch is on the mag release catch side. Its the square bolt which you pull down. The switch which he pressed is the bolt holding opening device to hold open the bolt.
Tachanka has an impeccable taste for antiques, that's the explanation for him having the DP-27
Yooo! Another upload. Can we PLEASE get an episode where Jonathan messes with the weapon modding station in Tarkov? I'd love for him to look at all the attachments and the compatibility. I want to see what abominations he would make
You do realise he would just make them historically or situationally accurate.
Yeah that would be awesome if he can wrap his head aroubd the weird market. Probably should give him a loaded yp inventory with stuff and a shooting range on the hideout.

I would love to see Johnathan talk about the guns in Killing Floor 2. They have so many real ones as well as cool sci-fi type guns
I would assume the "thin rails" are done as a way to save some polygons on the 3D model. Game devs usually have a lot of reference around when modeling real guns (sometimes even physical, actual ones), but when making a game there is always the consideration of "is it worth it to put too many polygons in just for the sake of a little detail?"
Making a simplified shape too big would make the model uglier. So it's a mixture of optimization and artistic choice.
Kind of the opposite actually. The geo is there either way, it's just thinner. If anything you're more liable to run into z fighting and baking problems the thinner it is.
You sort have a point. Its wouldn’t be a lot of polygons to fill area thinned out
@@7CubedFilms what matters is the amount of vertexes defining the edges of a shape, the space between them is immaterial.

Yes, that is true
So we’re in copper
I agree, it creates competitive consistency as well. I’d would get frustrating to be locked out of aiming through peek holes in this game.
I would love to see The Hunter: Call of the Wild, it has a lot of interesting weapons/weapon types.
Guns? Killing Floor 2 and Perfect Dark
Idk about that, royal armouries seems to specialize in military weaponry not so much civilian/hunting firearms. Id love to be proved wrong tho.
“Wtf is this, and what is it doing in a Rainbowsix game? Look how they massacred my boy” - Johnathan
true. it even applies more when they stopped adding normal guns and new guns at all and add fictional shit
@Marc Michaud I meant Rainbow 6 Siege specifically. Even in its beginning, it was a hero team shooter.
@Marc Michaud it’s so funny watching people that played siege for a week 6 years ago cry about how unrealistic the game is now like it was ever realistic in the first place
The DP actually used to be a mounted gun but when they reworked him they made it a carry gun so he could keep it while getting a new ability
Nice, an R6 guns reaction. Hoping for a part 2 since this was very enjoyable.
Yeah me2 so many sweet guns in Siege.
yeah I wish these videos in general were longer. always look forward to seeing a new one every week.
A great effort. I enjoy much more reviews such as this which deal with real (or quasi real) weapons.
That 50 Beowulf round would be excellent for bears and moose up in Alaska, we had an upper receiver conversion but moved before converting it.
i think the odd modifications are to avoid copyright. so having a flimsy rail is more about not paying license fee than oversight
Really enjoyed this -- would love to see the F2, CAMRS, R4-C and more in the future!
Another banger of an episode.
It seems as if you're already teasing it in the intro, but, you should take a look at Deathloop, for sure, as I'd love to see Jonathan's reaction to the two pistols that slot together to form an SMG.
Or that smg that looks like a revolver
Not the first time that happens in fiction.
Would love to see Johnathan react to the firearms of Verdun and Stalker Anomaly
just. original. STALKER
@@Alex-no1rb Vanilla is nice, but the firearm animations are very bland, along with the sounds. The combat is downright horrible in most cases ,especially with the higher level enemies being so spongy and bullets shooting around them like a COD shotgun from a sniper. For showcasing weapons anomaly is the best mod to represent what Stalker offers. You should also use AWAR, JSRS sound mod and blindsides reanimation pack so you don't do the full reload after shooting one round. I personally use those and other misc mods to enhance the experience.

This is his best video yet because of how pedantic he is over Little details in fire arms. Love it.
Let’s see some Titanfall 2 stuff! For a sci fi shooter, it has some decently designed guns.
Seeing Jonathan reacting to some of the super customizable guns in Payday 2 would actually be really fun i think.
An episode on payday 1 and payday 2's guns would be great
Funnily enough, I think that ability to breach which you talked about in the same segment, is also exactly the reason why they chose to have bullets "come out of the sight". There were probably a lot of frustrated players in playtesting making peepholes, aiming through them, and then shooting the wall.
There needs to be a part two to this. There are so many other ridiculous weapons that he could cover such as Lion’s V308, BOSG with ACOG, and Ela’s FO12
When the first words Jonathan speaks after the intro is a perplexed "Oh God" you know you're in for a treat.

Up to Y1S3 - Skull Rain, resealed on 2016 Q3, every weapon had it's sighting picture correctly set to the cheek weld of it's buttstock. After they decided to turn the game into a competitive tactical shooter, much of the realistic aspects were cut, and by the start of Y2S3 - Blood Orchid the game became literally Overwatch with airsoft cosplayers. You can even use telekinesis to magically put back the magazine you removed a second ago and shoot the remaining ammunition just by aiming down sights while reloading.
It was still good enough, and Siege really lost most of it's magic after the major disappoinment that was the update Y4S2 - Phantom Sight. Although some of the most recent seasons were good, like Y5's Void Edge, Steel Wave and Shadow Legacy, the game doesn't feel as if weapons mattered anymore. It most about gadgets.

The L85A2 has to be one of my favourite guns ever. It just looks so cool and I love the karate chop forward assist drill. Any game that implements the karate chop has my respect.
Thumbs up for the fellas who film the footage and edit the videos! There's no "I" in Jonathan Ferguson.

Definitely need to do Halo. Would be super interesting

The plastic lever in the right side of the L85 is the bolt catch. The bolt release is the square metal piece in the left side.
After you've player Tarkov guns in games just don't ever seem the same again.
"This is in fact a 50 caliber ar15."

This is why I watch these.
"... With the Bolt Release, this catch here." He says as he shows the Bolt Hold-Open on the opposite side of the SA80...
About like the requirements that led to what would be the G41. Mauser stuck to the exact requirements, while Walther ignored some of them, and the Walther rifle was better as a result.
@@MrDgwphotos Please note I don't say that it's the right way but it is very much the *British* way :P
