Been following this channel more recently w/ the influx of Dr Kwon content, super interesting stuff.
Followed along as best I could doing step drills & trying to incorporate the timing into my swing.
Best 18 holes off the tee in my life yesterday!! 14 drives found 10 fairways, 3 others just in rough & only 1 bad drive (got cocky on a par5) Thanks, and I'll be telling none of the guys I golf with about this channel, LOL !!!!!

These Dr Kwon videos are great. The "Horizontal Swing" really brought the whole concept home. When practicing this earlier today, my club speed increased, but the most important thing I noticed is with the smooth acceleration (continuous motion throughout the swing) my balance is much better. One of the key phrases I heard Brandon say was "forceful backswing". I liked that. No more "placing the club", super slow takeaways, or an overly technical backswing. Force precedes motion in the golf swing. Looking forward to using this tomorrow morning when I play Coronado. Lastly, is it just me, or does anyone else want to see Dr Kwon crank it up on the launch monitor, and hit some bombs?

Something that has helped me A TON with getting the lower body to work better --
When you SHIFT (before you TURN) the pressure in your feet should be on the BALL of your foot. As you introduce the turn THEN pressure goes to the heel.
If you've watched as many RUclips golf video lessons as I have then you've probably heard that the pressure shifts from heel to heel, but watch Dr. Kwons lead foot very closely at 5:06 of this video. You'll see that his pressure is on the BALL of the foot when he SHIFTS and then it transfers to his HEEL as he TURNS.
Food for thought. It helped me so much today when I played and I shot a +2, 74 :D

Since I was a tourament tennis player when young and my swings felt instinctive and natural, the amount of tinkering and tech analysis I'm doing as a medicore golfer trying to improve often makes my swing feel mechanical. My favorite teachers, like Brendan, try to bring the instinctive, reactive, athletic feels into our swings and movements. These drills from Dr. Kwon not only do that, but add one other great virtue: since unlearning wrong movement patterns takes large numbers of reps with the right movements, I love that these drills can be done using a continuous motion, thus quickly matching the thousands of reps we get playing faster paced sports like tennis or basketball.

I play with one arm only and people are totally blown away by the fact that I have one of the longest drives of the whole golf club. I try to tell them that I basically hit the ball with my legs, they are just confused. I lack an arm, but it seems to be more than just compensated by massive leg strength.

Brendan this is the best you've ever swung a golf club. Dr Kwon has distilled all the theory that you've had with Mike Malaska, AJ Bonnar, Milo Lines,Bertie Cordle and quietened your mind. Your clubspeed and release is tour pro pure. By all means get other content for your channel but Dr Kwon is the man for your swing.
I'd love to see his Trackman numbers as when he demonstrated to you his release was immense.
It would be fun to see you use this technique with the AMG guys sensors and then get the TXG guys to do a bag fitting for you.
Best content you've ever had on your channel.

    I could not do this......
    Step drill baffled me
I can play well and hit the ball for my age at 63 against my cronies, but inconsistent especially with irons and distance with woods. I can often beat them all with mental toughness and effort.
But I could see the difference in speed in this young man's swing watching this video. You can HEAR the speed difference.
I have a practice mat and net in my garage so I can hit lots of balls. My swing was so bad recently I injured myself trying to fix it.
Here's what I discovered. My stance was far too narrow although felt good to me. Get your feet out at LEAST as wide your shoulders even better a little wider.
This move works! Step drill now works as well. Level swing is my practice swing. I haven't hit a really bad shot in a week since widening stance.
Widen the stance kick start motion flows naturally!
    THANK YOU Dr. Kwon!
Can't say it enough Many Thanks
You are very effective and deliberate teacher.
    All the best.

Absolutely a thoughtful visual of kicking down on a motor bike foot kick starter with lead leg (post squat) in the downswing for added speed and power. Lead leg goes from a bent position to a straight position as you kick start your downswing.Majority of weight/pressure is on lead leg as you make the kick start move. Really works and for me offering a brilliant new insight for adding power and speed to the swing..A new frontier is being explored here hitherto ignored by golf instructors.

    • @pohoresky
      @pohoresky 2 года назад

@@TheRuggedWay What makes you say that this was the cause of Tiger's knee problems? Not possible to hit ball solidly without straightening lead leg. • @TheRuggedWay

  • @MrBlacksharpie

This "kick starting" action makes alot of sense. This is why you see Kyle Berkshire and Bryson DeChambeau kind of "spinning out" of their drives. As the club swings out and down you want your body to be moving up and away. Awesome!

    • @stuh7049
      @stuh7049 2 года назад +1

Also the spin out saves their front knee (ask tiger how his no spin knee worked out...lol). When Phil and Kyle were discussing driving the ball they both agreed they intentionally spin out to save their knees from injury.

Thanks so much for clarifying the step drills Dr. Kwon. I saw an excellent tip today, from Erica Larkin that makes it easier to pacify the arms and time the pivot. If you place a coat loosely over the shoulders and do a pivot with totally inactive arms the sleeves are thrown both ways while turning. If I imagine that coat and focus on turning the sleeves of the coat while making a real golf swing, I immediately increase my swing speed a few mph, without even thinking about the arms.

*Bullet points for this video **10:59** it's BODY DRIVEN starts from your left-side a one-piece triangle to acquire a proper plane this get to your slot far different location than where you think it is **14:33** keep what you acquired in the upper girdle all the way around the spine to the bottom the club now is prepared to be released. Brandon, your first 2 feet of your natural swing have noticeable wrist hitch lateral motion slide IMHO one quarter to half speed from the ADDRESS clean up the foundation one-piece takeaway is the MOST crucial. Then you can speed up your good parts about the new swing to ultimately hit it FLUSH vs Speed obsession. Any high-level golfer will always have a reserve of speed because their mechanical advantage in every swing but flush is nonnegotiable. Dr. Kwon is tickling around what makes it repeatability here in Whittier 😉*

At address I’m thinking “squat down for the rebound in the backswing, jump up to grab the ball to start the downswing” to put it in basketball terms. Others in the industry might call it the “vertical thrust” of power hitters.

But last 2 weeks I think Steve Pratt Mike Austin teaching is giving me flush contact on my driver with like hinge release from top with no spinning out from top and now coming inside now and amazing contact from before feeling like hitting a rock, and now my hands feel free and relaxed and I'm in balance now
Also my chipping I'm relaxed in hinge release but not as exaggerated, ball goes higher and more spin and lands soft

Really a more “DeChambeau” swing, i.e. when Brendon does the “wind up” action (throwing the club to the target before going back for the backswing). He gets more “single plane” ...and the same when he does the “horizontal swing” drill. That is a more powerful way to swing in my opinion - I used to swing that way. (Now I’m a “hands and arms guy.” Just throwing that out there. I prefer a “hands and arms” swing, which is not an entirely accurate descriptive phrase - as once you reach the “second parallel” point in the downswing you stop the hands and use you legs to rotate and from there the hands come along for the ride).

The progress is fantastic. I would be interested to know if this has begun to translate into lower scores on the course.

I have a bad habit of spinning my font hip around before centering which causes my club head to be open thus a big push. Will kicking the ground with my let my hands catch up. I’ll keep working on it. Thanks

Hey Brandon. Think about all those hours you spent throwing a heavy hammer into the sand! Talk about training excessive upper body movement! This has been quite a journey for you! Thank you for pursuing your passion. I really enjoy your site. Keep up the great work!!!

interesting. does he work with any pga/lpga or tour players? almost feel like if you set up in a reverse k setup at address, you would eliminate the lateral movement on the downswing bc you would already be posted up. then all you would do is turn and turn but add the element of squatting then going vertical for maximum ground force speed. like Adam porzak mentioned, every inch of sway takes rotation away.

Yes, tour players have come to this lab to work with dr Kwon. They usually bring their swing coaches with. Bryson, Matsuyama and about 5 others I saw with their names on the wall.

Irvin Lee must be watching Mike Dunaway videos. I've only heard the reverse K theory from him. He studied Mike Austins swing for years. Austin had a pure swing path much like this video is trying to explain. Everyone has a slightly different swing path that feels more natural to their body.

As a ski race coach and instructor and am a scratch handicap golfer who at 74 still hits the occasional +300 yrd drive- this is almost identical to skiing which is not surprising since both are almost completely leg driven if done properly Another way of describing the same thing is once you get almost to the top of your backswing you drive off of your rear leg then driving off the front leg as you strike the ball. it's the same thing as pressing into the ground with rear leg and then pressing into the ground with the front leg. Just a different way of saying he same thing for those who don't get the driving into the ground with the rear and front legs, the slight squat all top players get during the transition from from the mostly straightened rear leg is where one gets the ability to drive off the rear onto the front. Then the front legs has to drive upwards or you will fall over. In other words you need to be able to drive from the rear to the front leg from a slight squat which happens after the rear leg straightens during the backswing

Dr. Kwon is the “kicking up” the same as what many coaches refer to as ‘post or posting up’??
