First of all, I love your channel! I never learned to cook from my mother because I was SOOOO not interested at the time. Now that she has passed away I deeply regret not doing so. Your recipes bring back fond memories of her cooking. Thank you for that. Through your recipes I am now cooking things my mama made.

I tried turned out fluffy and great. loads of potential to add chicken and other when you do the vegetables. With the cube in uk we have oxo same as knor cubes is it more better to dissolve in the water you pour in or crush in with the rice when you add the herbs. Thank you for the new way normally we boil rice and drain if you put herbs in you lose through the draining this way it is all in what you are making. Perfect thank you for sharing this 👍👍👍

Best. Mexican. Rice. Ever. Wow! - like others, I was stumped on how to make rice like served at my favorite Mexican restaurant. (The Knorr tomato chicken bouillon is the key, in my opinion. I got the spoonable, loose kind. ) I have made this four times now and it turns out fantastic every time... and so easy. All I knew from 30+ years of cooking was the box or pouch kind of 'Spanish/ Mexican' rice from the grocery store... whoo HOO ~ now I know how to make this at home! Thanks SO much!

This rice is terrible. Nowhere near authentic or fresh. My parents have always used fresh ingredients. None of this onion powder and canned tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes stuff.. Just take 1 cup of rice and 1 and a half to 2 small tomatoes - diced, half an onion diced, 1 garlic clove -minced, 1 stalk of celery chopped into small pieces. Toast the rice until partially golden, quarter of the way through add the onions, garlic, and celery. Once the rice is almost golden and toasted fully, add the diced tomatoes to saute to cook and develop flavor. Then add 2 cups of water, a light teaspoon of knorr chicken bouillon, 1 packet of sazon goya con culantro y achiote, half a teaspoon of tomato paste, and a palmful of salt. Taste the liquid to adjust for seasoning. Mix everything well and let it begin to boil a bit. Once the water level is hovering a bit over but not fully level with it and the rice seems to have swelled a bit, cover it then turn the heat to low and set your timer for 7 and half minutes. Open and stir so it doesn't stick to the bottom, then reset the timer for another 7 and half minutes. Once the timer goes off it should be done. If for some reason yours is not fully cooked, keep covered with the heat off for 5 additional minutes then uncover to allow the rice to dry and fluff it up gently with a fork. Perfect rice every time. You're welcome. No need to use a blender because sauteeing then boiling the onions and garlic and tomatoes basically softens and dissolves it. That is the way my parents showed me how to make it. Both born and raised in Zacatecas.

@@gabbyray5637 Not that it's ANY of your business, but I was trying to find a video of an authentic recipe to send to a non-Hispanic friend in another country so it would be easier for them to follow. And I call BS on your claim about fresh ingredients. If anybody can afford to have phone or internet to look up recipes on RUclips for that matter, than they can afford to have fresh tomatoes, onions, and garlic that they use for any other BASIC recipe they cook. You're just making excuses for a terrible recipe and pure laziness. And to be frank I really don't care if you are offended at me educating others on what is authentic to MY culture.

    • @scan5837
      @scan5837 4 года назад +11

@@RB_333 What's original about Knorr boullion and Sazon Goya seasoning with culantro y achiote? You don't make your own? To each his own. Don't criticize others. You could have just sent your friend your recipe, or found another that you liked better without criticizing this one. Try the nice route next time. If you don't have something nice to say, just don't leave a comment. 🌻

    • @lynnd5342

@@RB_333 Sazon Goya was made by Spaniards who migrated to Puerto Rico where they decided to create spices and the like to be sold in America. It’s not authentic Mexican. It’s also just dry crushed spices and aromatics with added msg so you’re not using all fresh stuff either. Initially achiote oil was used along with the aromatics and spices. I personally infuse oil with annatto seeds and crush my spices. I could easily call you lazy for not doing it that way but I won’t because sometimes it’s not practical and I understand that.
As far as whether someone can afford something or not is individual. Imo phones and the internet are a necessity these days for work and school especially during a pandemic. That would be like “you don’t need a car instead get the fresh stuff” and the person has to walk fifty miles to and from work which would make getting to work impossible. You may say someone shouldn’t be buying a camera if they want fresh stuff until you find out that they’re a photographer. You just don’t know what’s a necessity to some and not to others.
I’m not sure why you didn’t just send your non-Hispanic friend your “authentic” recipe that you took the time to type in these comments instead of denigrating this channel. Not cool.

I'm in Texas so grew up on Tex-Mex food. Still love it 60+ years later. Your videos are fantastic; easy to follow, easy to make and tasty. I like to saute' onions and bell pepper with my rice and use the juice drained from a can of petite diced tomatoes into my water to make the 2 cups. Sometimes I add the tomatoes to the rice and sometimes I use them in whatever else I'm making that evening. Thanks for the recipes and please keep turning them out.

Last night we planned a steak fajitas dinner with my boyfriend’s friend (who is Mexican) and I suggested we have rice and beans, of course! The friend asked “can you make Spanish rice?” I replied “no, but I bet Gochujang Mama can teach me!” Sure enough I followed this recipe and the rice came out perfect!!! Got the boyfriends approval first (Salvadoreño, picky, and honest) and he loved it! Thank you so much! Oh! Also have the Charro beans in my crockpot! They just have another hour to go 😃

Great recipe... like you say, good place to start. An ex-gf taught me this 40 yrs ago and i've been making it ever since. One compliment to you is I notice when you put your tomato / broth mixture in, you scraped every bit of it with your spoon. EXCELLENT. I see so much waste by these demos where they just dump it and there's so much still left in the bowl or cup. That's why I don't watch the pros on TV. They've obviously never had to account for every penny spent on food. Nice vid, thanx for sharing!!!

My mom would pretty much make it he same way. When the rice was toasting she would throw in chopped garlic and onions. She would then add one small can of Hunt's Tomato Sauce and then fill the empty can with water twice and pour that in and bring it to boil and then cover and simmer. I never forgot the smell of toasted rice and garlic! Thanks for sharing the video!

Two small cans of tomato sauce with one clove of garlic also works. You can also saute the rice with big chunks of white onion when browning. When you put in the liquid a handful of small carrots make it pretty and tasty too. Or toss and chunk of cilantro as well.

My mom always uses a splash of tomato sauce with chicken broth when she makes fideo or spanish rice, but I tend to use tomato paste instead. I like to buy the paste that comes in the tubes (very common here in Europe, but easy to find in the US nowadays too). It works very well! My grandmother is Italian-American, so my mom always grew up with zucchini in her spanish rice, so I tend to do that too. Just a little bit!

While I may just be a plain old Aussie mama it doesn't stop me from encouraging my family to try new things.
I have never been, nor will I ever be, a two veg and meat mum. Which is why I raised my children to appreciate food in all of its varieties. Especially the taste of other countries. Plus: I am vegetarian, along with two of my children.
Lately, I have been wanting to try different rice recipes after buying far too much - on a whim - while shopping.
Your recipe was the one I felt most comfortable with trying first before anyone else's. So...at 4.23am I got up to make this dish, attempting to be as quiet as possible.
I followed your instructions to the letter and now I am waiting patiently for the rice to be cooked with only the sounds of my stomach to keep me company.
This is going to one awesome breakfast surprise for my family. They are quite used to my eccentric behaviour so I am pretty sure sure they will love this surprise, too.
Ps. It's winter and has been a little chilly, so what better way to wake up is my power of reasoning and logic. Not entirely sure if that is right but it's smelling so good right about now and that's good enough for me.
Thank you so, so much for each and every single recipe you share. I can't wait to try them all!

I used tomato sauce in my stock, but substituted onion flakes (~2x) for the onion powder, plus a pinch of dried red pepper flakes and a shake or two of cayenne powder. I think I toasted my rice slightly longer, but that is key to this nutty tasting rice recipe. Dead easy and absolutely delicious. Thanks.

This recipe is so good! I tried it last night but put my own twist on it and fried the rice with onions and bell pepper, and when it was time for me to cover it I put some cilantro in, and it was amazing!

I just started watching your channel love your cooking style. We have family favorite recipe for a dish we call red gravy and rice. Usually made with cubed round steak, chicken thighs work as well. The gravy is served over white texmati rice, with flour tortilla for scooping. So good

Tomato JUICE, chicken broth and a chicken bullion cube is the combination I came up with. We have no tomato/chicken bullion or powder here locally. I just make sure my total liquid is double the amount of rice I use.

Heres a tip my grandma taught me... when making white rice always use the same amount of water as rice (2 cups rice: 2 cups water).....and when making any yellow rice prepare everthing in the pan then add the water...depending on how liquified your sauce is then add a little less water than the amount of rice u are cooking ( 2 cups rice: 1 1/2 cup water)...hope this helps

I'm learning how to make better burritos and THIS is the recipe that I've adopted. Even with a few mistakes, it turned out good on the first try! I was also aiming for a drier rice so I used 1 cup rice, 1.5 cups water, 0.5 cups passata (which is just pureed tomato minus skin) and those proportions worked well for me. I wish I had a rice cooker that I could toast the rice in, but it looks like it'll have to be stovetop for me.
