This is literally how I do my hair! Im gonna try doing this every day instead of every week. My hair reaches bra strap length, my goal is tailbone length by the end of next year. I also incorporate hair grease in my regimen and my hair is thriving! This is my 5th time growing my hair super duper long ☺️
My stylist was an apprentice to Dickey many years ago. She taught me how to do a wash n go like this with a leave in paired with a styling product. When I feel like it and it isn't too humid, my hair looks great. I would Kinky Curly Curly Custard, Camille Rose Curlmaker or Curls Blueberry Bliss gel as my styler. For leave ins, I would use Curls Blueberry Bliss or leave ins from Karens Body Beautiful. I live in the Northeastern part of the US (NYC). Your hair looks so pretty!🥰🤗
Aww thank you beautiful! Girl why did you immediately answer my follow up questions about stylers etc??? Don’t be acting like you know what imma ask you next! 👀🤣 But seriously, thank you for the awesome input. It’s extremely helpful! 🥰
@jdbailey442 Monique! She is awesome! Loving your product recommendations. 🩷 I’ve never tried Karen’s body beautiful. Do you you do a different wash and go routine when it’s humid?
Wow!!!! I used to love Karen’s Body Beautiful the leave in!!!! I didn’t know they still make products. Target used to sell it years ago. Thanks for this and your tips!,,
Your hair is gorgeous. I love the dark color for the F/W season. I have been using the Anthony Dickey method myself for a month now and I have seen and felt the difference in my hair. Anthony Dickey is the real deal. It looks like your hair is recovering well after what you been through BCG method. Just follow Anthony method and you will see and feel the definition, hydration, and softness in your hair.
Oh thank you and thank you for sharing your thoughts on his method! I’m super excited because my hair seems like it’s on a real comeback! 💖🙏🏽 I appreciate you! 🥰🤗
Thank you Luv! 🥰 It’s such a cool method and everyone who’s told me they have tried it seems to have had a very positive experience. The method I was using before had my hair in shambles! Now my hair feels moisturized and hydrated. I’m so glad it’s working for you and your hair is thriving! Vast a beautiful thing that is! 💖🙌🏽
I just spray my hair with water and shake on the in between days when life is life-ing. I am so glad I found this when I first went natural 10 years ago because it's perfect for keeping my scalp clean, my hair moisturized, and it's super quick and easy.
So awesome to hear! Thank you so very much for sharing your experience with us regarding this method. It’s extremely helpful to hear from those who have experience in the method so thank you! 💖🙏🏽
I was anthony dickey method before I knew it existed. I just knew with my workout schedule, I couldn't keep my curls more than one day. I started every day with wet hair. But I never got sick. The only time I get sick, is when I sleep with a wet head.
I am from CT South Africa and I can remember doing this since 1980. I was 12 and we were all doing wash and go's this way. I have to add, all of us were type 3b/c and one kids was about 4a. Her curl looked better than the rest of us cos she had no pre-existing heat damage. There were no diffusers back then and our weather is generally warmer than the states. In CT we always did everything starting with sopping wet hair. W&g, roller set, blow drying too. We blow dry like the Dominican stylists ..... Round brush method. They all work better with wet hair rather than damp hair. I generally spritz every other day and rinse or cowash the other days. Shampoo weekly. I never have 2nd day curls, no matter what I do. My hair doesn't do well with braid outs or twist outs cos they come lose and too short to pineapple.
Hey sis, CurlMix system is built around the same premise. You could try theirs instead of his. They're a lil cheaper but both are meant to be applied in the shower
Thank you! I have been really interested in this method. I work in a hospital, and I do my hair now almost every other day, not every day. And I can say detangling is so much easier. Interesting you mentioned drying under cool. My past few washes I used the cool setting for the first 15 minutes before switching to heat and noticed my hair is shinier. Yours is always so shiny and beautiful! Looking forward to the next parts of the series.
@esthertjones that's true I agree. I'm not sure where the idea came from that we need to go 7 or more days with a wng. I think listen to your hair and wash when you need to.
@shelly.v.247 Yes, it was so very helpful. I tried it for the first time 2 days ago. For a period in the process, my hair wasn't any different. I continued to add conditioner....I recall his instructions saying "as much conditioner as you have hair". I have lots of dense hair, so I kept going until I saw the definition (because he was clear in saying the way it looks with conditioner is the way it will set, and I was not feeling the frizz and lifelessness that was present @ my typical stopping point). I said all that to say, this is now my new routine. It is faster, more moisturized, defined, etc. Thanks to you, I understood it better than other videos I viewed, and I am already on a roll with this method.
Oh I love hearing that! When I did it I used a ton of conditioner too. He also says just use a very inexpensive conditioner because the true benefit is in the method and not necessarily the products. My struggle became the drying time. However I did it until my heir became super hydrated. Then I switched to my current haircare routine. 🥰
My hair is very similar to yours…I don’t do the hair type thing but I will say it’s very coily. My hair LOVES WATER and it melts and detangles by itself under a shower head as soon as it gets wet. It gets saturated fast but will dry fast too without product! Anyway…I have found that every day or every other day is what I need to do for my hair to feel and look it’s best. I may shampoo and condition once or twice a week but the other days I just wet it down in shower, apply conditioner (currently using Tressame) rinse and then do a leave in and gel. Yesterday I just used a leave in conditioner so definitely needed to redo my hair this morning. Today I used leave-in and a gel so that maybe i can get two days out of this style and redo it on Monday (prob shampoo and conditioner though). Didn’t know it was a “Dickey” method but I do know that my hair can go from super shiny and defined curls and coils to Buckwheat with a snap of a finger if I don’t do it daily or every other day! And I mean Afro dry Buckwheat!! It like I have two different heads of hair. Can’t wait to see the other parts of the video and hear your final thoughts 😊
Why am I on the ground right now! I’m so freaking WEAK!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Be careful saying buckwheat because you’ll get accused of texturism etc especially with some of the creepers who come offer here and read/watch then go make videos feeding off of my content 👀😆 But, you literally just explained my head of hair to a T!!!! 😮 DM me on IG because I’d love to see your hair and chat more and learn from you if that’s cool. 🥰🤗
Very nice glad you’re trying his method works wonderfully I have to admit. It’s is a lot of work at first. In the winter I incorporate a mousse topper so it dries faster. Be mindful of using silicone based products they will require that you use a shampoo or other detox to get rid of build up. You will love the results 2 weeks in
Thanks for the tips! 💖 What shampoo do you use to wash yours? I have his No-Suds Shampoo. Btw, I love the video he just posted about it. I linked it in the description if you don’t know what I’m referring to. Thank you again for sharing your tips! It’s greatly appreciated! 🥰🙏🏽
@@shelly.v.247 your welcome yes love his new video. I was a skeptic for awhile with the no poo. I use a Ouidad expensive and my purse is screaming - but my hair loves it. Melts into my hair. I use a clay every 4-6 weeks for buildup vs a shampoo. I used Kanolin code the 1st time and MAN. beautiful results. My hair loves no poo. This is new regime I started about 6/7 weeks ago. It’s working out well. I just got blow out trim so I want to see how my hair behaves over the next 3 months with this new regime. Btw, I need to find an affordable no poo cleanser backup. I want to alternate weeks using ouidad and the backup. If you have any Recommendations let me know
When LaToya Ebony did her Dickie video, one person left a comment where she said she deep conditions every day and then just uses leave-in. Like you say, i really like how the hair feels when you cowash, and eventhough i want to be able to use only leave-ins, but every day ....😬 Play with your hair, enjoy the journey😊
Yeah I think you have to find what works for you and your hair. I think the method is one that is easily adjustable. So anyone who wants to try it can adjust it to suit their needs. Thank you for watching and for sharing your thoughts. 💖
I have 4B hair and do this method in the summertime. Eventually, I ended up just using leave-in as well but I would wet my hair everyday. Now I live in a city with super hard water, which makes haircare difficult.
Your hair turned out great! I’ve been following the Dickey method for that last several months. My hair is responding well; it’s hydrated/moisturized and thriving. It’s a lot work, but you get used to the process. The results are a great motivator! I’ll be here to watch/support whatever you decide for your hair.
Been using his method for over 2 months after a big chop. My hair has grown back over 2 inches. I suggest using a cream cleanser the best I have found besides Anthony Dickey’s is AS I AM amend it runs about $10. Ion longer use regular shampoo or oils unless I do a blow out (for oils). Regular shampoo actually do dry natural hair immensely.
Aww thank you so very much Luv! 🥰Isn’t it wild how much damage curly hair can hide? That’s why I think so many who follow(ed) the no oils & butters method have had a hard time wrapping their head around everything because the hair can look so healthy. It’s not until you start closely assessing it and noticing how struggle with detangling & styling it etc. 😝
I want to try this method. My hair has been so dry and crispy lately I’m willing to try anything to get it back to health 😩. Your hair is so gorgeous btw. It’s the density for me!
I’m still watching but I use to love the Anthony Dickey method. I went back to it recently and my hair loves it. Update: shaking your hair will help with separation but I also think it helps if you put a little bit too much water and product.
Shelley your wash n go shape is SHAPING my my 😍😍😍 I also can’t stand the hair on my neck after I apply my product. Do you find that putting that kind of cloth around your neck causes any frizz for the bottom? I can’t wait to see how long your hair lasts and how often you’ll be able to go between with this new method!
Aww thank you beautiful ‼️🥰🤗 No, I don’t get any extra frizz when I put a towel underneath my hair. I bet as my hair gets longer I will but for now no. 😅 I’m lovin this method thus far and I think I’ve found my sweet spot within it. I can wait to share it all either! 💖🤩🥳
Love the color ~ your hair looks healthy ~ what shampoos and conditioners are you using ~ I still use Innersense, but would like something else…Thanks for sharing 👛👛
Thank you beautiful! I let go of Innersense awhile ago because I’m not sure if they are really the best for our hair. Especially now that I know certain groups are sponsored by them. 👀🫣 I’m honestly still trying to figure out what works the best for my hair. According to Anthony Dickey, ppl with hair like ours can easily get stripped with shampoos that lather up. So I’m testing out his No Suds Shampoo by Hair Rules. I’m also playing around with different conditioners. I like the ones from Trader Joe’s and believe it or not I just tried one by Cantu and loved it. I’ll definitely continue to share everything I’m using in my videos and down in the description. 🥰
I'm here from Jenn J's page. My hair is in recovery...from summer, bleach and crochet braids.....yeah I might have overdid it 😅😅between May and September but I needed a change.😁 At least I know what caused the damage and how to minimize/prevent and avoid it if I can stop being lazy. My stylist already has me on Olaplex every week. Lol! I don't think my hair likes crochet they never come out right. So I would have to crochet the hair to a crochet wig cap and only re-style my edges every week. I still want to try something new but again within reason. My mohawk is growing into a tapered cut! 🥲🥲
@@shelly.v.247 I'm currently at work in my satin head scarf because my hair needs a break. Lol! I'm still in love with the colour but I know my hair needs recovery from my "blond shaved bald Frohawk gone wild" summer. 😅 Lol! Good thing too cause today is cold enough for me to wear three layers!
Thank you for trying this method. I just moved to Arizona so the hint about glycerin because of the heat here is a very good point. I have four b hair type and we'll try and see how it works for me. Looking forward to day two.
@@shelly.v.247 thank you so so much. I've been struggling since I moved from Colorado's set climate. This is a big change. But I am excited to get started on hydrating my hair the next 4 to 5 days. Lol. And thanks for sharing the products you use. By the way I watched all the rest of your videos going forward from day one and to where you are today. That took a lot of courage and I am very impressed with your journey. We all have our x and downs but you continue to move forward and that means a lot for viewers to see your determination and commitment. 🤗
I’m loving watching all of his content. It’s been great! My hair is super dehydrated but his method is really something special for retaining moisture! 🥰
This video is right on time! I used to love the Dickey method and probably should have started back using it right after my curly cut issues. 😩 But I’m going to give it a try again today. Your hair looks amazing! Can’t wait to see the rest of this series. 😍 Oh, and I love that TJ conditioner. I buy 2 or three at a time! Perfect for all the conditioner used with this method. 😉
You are so welcome beautiful! Dickey is the Godfather of curls for a reason! I can’t believe I ever did things differently especially since he seems to preach the complete opposite of the methods I was implementing before 🫣
Your hair looks gorgeous. I can't wait to watch the series. I don't know if you had planned on this, but I would be interested to know the cost of this. I could see doing daily wash and goes with the Trader Joe's conditioner that you're using because it seems more cost-effective. But I'm wondering if it would be just as cost-effective with the brand that I typically use once a week.
That's a great idea! 😍Off the cuff I'm thinking it's only cost effective if you use less expensive brands. I've been playing around with less expensive products and my hair still looks great! If you follow me on IG you'll see it in more of a real time. That's not to try and get you to follow me though. Side note: Isn't it sad how we have to give everything a disclaimer!🤦🏽♀️🫣 I love your idea and maybe I'll make a video regarding that very subject!🥰🤗 Thank you for the content idea
Lord we go through some conditioner 😅. I have noticed since I started co washing more frequently ( not everyday cause i don't have the time) my detangling is much easier.
Shelly!!! 🔥Your hair is looking amazing! I had to pause and come back to see the video without distractions. 😂😍Have you thought about using leave-in & mousse only for even faster drying time, when you do the daily routine? I’m excited to see you on this journey because your hair is looking so juicy already!
Great idea!! I’m going to take advantage of the Ulta sale and get some mousse. So I’ll definitely give that a try now that you suggested it! Thank you beautiful! 😍
YAAAAAASSSSSSSS!!!!! It is my go to method for wash and go! And guarantee if you follow it TO the TEE, you will never have to deep condition again 😂! LOVED your results!
Aww thank you beautiful! 💖Do you remember me asking you a bunch of questions about it on your channel? 😆You helped me so much with your extremely detailed answers. Btw, That is how I found you and started following your wonderful channel. You have such great content and I love following your journey! Thank you for everything! 😍💯
🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹@@shelly.v.247 omg, you never fail to encourage me so much! I DO remember hahaha! I loved that you felt so comfortable to ask me. That was a highlight for me! Glad it worked for you! :D
Hey Shelly! 💕I’m loving the volume and layers from the cut! It looks full and healthy! What makes you think it’s still damaged? How do you deal with single strand knots in you hair being that you wear wash and gos? Do you feel you have a lot of them? How do you decide the styler you will choose for your wash and gos? What factors do you take into consideration when deciding during wash day?
Aww thank you Luv! 💖🤗 Okay I’m going to answer question by question. How do you deal with single strand knots in you hair being that you wear wash and gos? -GETTING REGULAR TRIMS HELPS ME FROM GETTING SSK BECAUSE THEY WRE BASICALLY SPLIT ENDS. Do you feel you have a lot of them? -NOT SINCE I UNCOVERED WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH MY HAIR AND CHANGED MY HAIRCARE ROUTINE. How do you decide the styler you will choose for your wash and gos? -I DECIDE BASED OFF MY DESIRED LOOK IM WANTING TO ACHIEVE. MEANING, DO I WANT A FULLER LOOK OR A MORE FLAT AND DEFINED LOOK. What factors do you take into consideration when deciding during wash day?-I THINK ABOUT THE DESIRED LOOK IM WANTING TO ACHIEVE. I THINK ABOUT HOW LONG I WANT OR NEED MY WASH AND GO TO LAST. I hope that helps. Please lmk if you have additional questions. 🥰
@@shelly.v.247 It helped a ton! I’ve been experiencing a lot of ssk which is unusual. I am overdue for a trim though. I was considering getting the split ender device but will also get a trim soon. I will increase my trim frequency and see how this helps. I’m also considering blowing out my hair more often but I’m scared of heat damage. I’m still struggling to find combos that work for me. The combos ppl say are their holy grails and don’t flake actually flake on me. Maybe I’m heavy handed. I’m also considering if it’s the combos I’m choosing, at the time I’m choosing it. Maybe the weather plays a role also. I was wondering if you ever consider the weather or season when choosing the combo you will you use for wash day. Or if it effects wether you will add a leave in or cream or anything else to your routine. Why do you feel your hair is still damaged? It looks great!
I think the most important lesson I’ve learned is to do what works best for YOUR HAIR! There is no one size fits all. We want there to be and would love for there to be but unfortunately there’s not. So find your holy grail and go with it Sis. 💖 Looks are deceiving and that’s why you have to be careful about whose advice you follow. My hair looks healthy but I assume you it’s not. The splits I have from the method I was following are unreal. I care about it because it impacts the overall health of my hair. Meaning, it’s hard to grow damaged hair. My goal is to grow out my hair but I want it to not only look healthy but also be healthy! I think this method can get me there. 💖🙏🏽
Hey Luv there’s a full 5 part series and I show shower scenes and explain everything in pretty decent detail. Let me know if you have any additional questions and yes I went in with conditioner because I was cowashing daily. 🥰
ooh, I remember the Anthony Dickey method! I got too lazy to do this everyday or even every other day but his method definitely works. One tip on the humectants like glycerine, I've found that in hot arid climates, gels and other leave on products with a high humectant count can actually dry out your hair over time. Because the air is dryer than your hair so the glycerine sucks moisture out of your hair. When you're in a somewhat humid (not too humid though) climate, glycerine draws moisture from the air and into your hair. It's not just me though, a bunch of curly hair experts say the same. Of course, if it's working for you then keep using it, everyone's hair is unique afterall. Love your videos and looking forward to part 2! Your hair looks fab!
I read your message a couple of times and what you are saying makes absolute sense and I’ll definitely watch for it happening! So far the glycerin based products I’ve used with the exception of Alikay Lemongrass gel hasn’t done that. I wonder if it’s because I used a leave in underneath it? My hair stayed very moisturized feeling but maybe it’s also different because it was being set daily? Idk 🤷🏽♀️ However, I’ll definitely keep an eye on it for sure now! 🥰 I appreciate your input and advice! It’s extremely helpful Luv! 💖💯
@@shelly.v.247 I think using leave-ins and the daily sets help prevent the humectants from doing you dirty. But that's just a guess. After everything you've been through with your hair I just wanted to give you a heads up on how climate can affect products. Anywho, keep using what works cause it's definitely working! 💖
You said from doing you dirty! 🤣🤣🤣 You totally sound like me talking! Lol 😆 I been watching for it since you mentioned it and I think the leave in is keeping it from doing me real dirty-dirty! 😆 Please continue to share your thoughts and opinions on my channel. It’s very important for all minds to come together collectively to help each other out‼️ Chile we know it takes a village! 💖😅
His method definitely works. I can vouch. But, like you said, there's the laziness factor. Wetting my hair every day was not convenient when I had to be out of the door in the morning. But now that I am retired, I may revisit it. You have gorgeous curls and love the shape of your hair. Thanks for sharing!
Sis, laziness will kill even the biggest of dreams! Lol 😂 If only could figure out a way to dry it faster then setting her daily would be a breeze! However, with my hair I’m seeing I can easily go more than one day so that’s a blessing! 💖🙏🏽
😂Loveeee your humor!!! Gurrrlll like you said its your hair and you are serious about getting your hair getting to a healthy state. So do yo thang...okay!!!
Awww well thank you beautiful! Lol 😆 I enjoy a good laugh myself! 🤣 AND….thank you for your kind words regarding my hair. I truly appreciate the love and support! 💖🤗😘
Sis if your hair is already thriving with using hair grease I’d personally leave it alone. So many of us experienced extreme dryness in our hair from taking out oil & butter rush products. So now we are using methods like this to rehydrate our hair. However, nothing wrong with trying something new either. 💖
From Cape Town South Africa ..... We do everything starting with very wet hair. We roller set, blow dry with a round brush luke the Dominican stylists in US and w&g starting with very wet hair and back in the day we never had flatirons. So I am a believer in the sopping wet hair approach. We may not cowash everyday when doing a w&g but we definitely give hair a rinse at the very least. In my social circle we range from 2c-4c ..... My 4C nieces and cousins don't do it cos most have protective styles or just spritz daily. We dont have the same products as you have and most pf us find products for curlies are way too heavy.... So we dilute styling products before applying if the product is too heavy.
Hi Luv! 🥰 Wow that is so very interesting! It definitely makes sense to start on really wet hair because it breaks down the bonds in the hair and seems to give it a more flat finish. I’ve definitely noticed with my hair the more water I use, the flatter my hair sets when curly. Thank you so very much for sharing your thoughts and experiences. It’s greatly appreciated! 💖🤗
I feel like for this method of daily wash n go, you should use a more water soluable product with less build up like a cream(without shea butter) so you can better wash it off with the co wash.
That’s a great point. A person could definitely do that if they are concerned about buildup. I actually made several tweaks, so I don’t have those concerns right now but if I did that’d be a great way to approach it!
@shelly.v.247 I see. I haven't used big poppa gel but I assumed it would be somewhat heavy and filmy like almost all gels are made to be. I also have fine and low porosity hair so that's a huge component
If doing this daily or every other day do you detangle also and with what type of tool? Also do you dry your hair under the hooded dryer (does it have to be on cool or is med/high ok) or diffuse? Thank you for sharing! I was just thinking about this method.
Excellent questions! In my series I actually discuss everything you asked. Because you’re wetting your hair daily and bathing it in conditioner, the tangles just fall out (if there are any). So I just finger detangled with the exception of 1 day which you’ll see in the series because I was curious if finger detangling was effective each day. Spoiler alert, it absolutely was! 🙌🏽🤣 I started with a cool setting then started playing around with it each day. A medium setting is good. I also lightly diffused each time for a couple of minutes. It would be ideal to just diffuse for 5-8 minutes then air dry the rest of the way but I didn’t try that. Maybe I will and see what happens. I did play with the amount of water that was left in my hair prior to applying the styler. Squeezing some out first gave me an amazing result and it dried the quickest and lasted 3 days! Unfortunately, I didn’t record those days because I was traveling and was playing around with the method a little. Lastly, I think it’s a method that should you try it, you adjust it to suit your needs. Hope that makes sense and is a little helpful 🥰
Your hair your head!!! Preach! I love that you're having fun with your hair again. I have to wonder though, if you're following the method of resetting daily, do you even need a gel? Leave-in conditioner may be enough since you don't need the style to hold for multiple days. 🤔 Looking forward to the rest to the series!
Absolutely Sis! And can I just say how much I appreciate how positive you always are! 💖💯 Great question! I think if I had silkier hair what was looser curled I could get away with it. I think my hair would be ginormous of o didn’t apply any gel. I might have to test it just to see but idk lol 🤷🏽♀️
So is the Cantu conditioner a staple for you? I just got my curl ly cut today and I have a lot of fullness to regain from my once every three week wash matting disasters. I am looking for a good cowash. Also, how do you like the new Trader Joe's products now that you've used a few times?
Yes I’m currently loving the Cantu I’ve been using. I’ll definitely be repurchasing it! Just know it’s very thick and heavy but I love that for my hair. I’ve loved everything I’ve tried so far. I haven’t tried their cowash yet. 💖
@@shelly.v.247 Okay thanks. I love the price of the Cantu, especially with so much usage. Have you ever tried the Giovanni line? I picked up three conditioner and leave in st Sprouts but it has mixed reviews. I also picked up the Sprouts Biotin conditioner.
I love this method, but with a newborn, a 5 and a 6 year old I don't have time to dry my hair every day. My hair looks a lot like yours, but it's close to hip length when stretched. If I let it air dry it will still be damp at night. That's not a good look or feeling 😅. I wonder how much difference a mouse will make. I did this method a few years back and I loved it. The real problem was that after a few weeks my hair started to feel limp, mushy, and couldn't hold a curl anymore. I wonder what happened... Not sure what went wrong.
Hmmmmm I’ll definitely pay close attention to everything you mentioned if I were to continue with it. Maybe it was the products you were using. I know certain silicones can block the moisture etc. Maybe that had some sort of effect on your curls. Idk 🤷🏽♀️ Thank ton for sharing your experience. It’s extremely helpful! And the drying time is the only negative factor IMO. I’ve been trying to see what I can do to get around it or make it quicker because it’s honestly the longest part for me. 😅
@@shelly.v.247 Does oil actually get into the hair though? I've heard people say that, but as far as I know, there is no study where they took a microscrope and watched the oil go in. The only thing I knowof that goes into hair is colour and relaxer, and those need a chemical process. **thinking face emoji**
I wasn't using silecone. I was using as I am products. I did the method for about a month. I did a protein treatment, because I thought it might be moisture overload, but the protein treatment didn't help. I ended up locking my hair, because I got so frustrated. I wonder now if all I needed was a good shampoo 🤣
Its amazing how anykne can tell us what to do, or what to buy, and we fall for it, even if the person just starts making up things as we go along. Yet! If a family member tells us the same thing we ignore them. Just saying
I know it’s really hard to wrap your head around it all but the benefits outweigh the dry time. Your hair feels amazingly soft, hydrated and moisturized! It’s super fast and easy to set. If I added it up, it only takes 30 minutes to set and dry it. The curls look phenomenal too! The main drawback is the drying time because that is the longest part of the process. However, it’s worth it for how the hair feels and looks. If I could diffuse it for 5-8 minutes then air dry the rest that would completely offset the dry time. We shall see. 💖
True, but I think it depends on the products you’re using etc. In a 2 week period of time I went through about 20 oz of conditioner that I paid about $5 for. The Curly Chemist did a video about 2 years ago and recommended inexpensive conditioners that she highly recommends. The one I used is off of her recommendation list. I didn’t experience product build up but supposedly his no suds shampoo works well to cleanse the hair. That was my experience as well. So idk 🤷🏽♀️ I don’t think any one method is for everyone. You take the meat and leave the bones. For me, this one offered a ton of meat. 💖😆
I’ve been trying different ones. I put a couple in the description but basically anything with split that doesn’t have silicone in it for now. Suave Almond & Shea Butter conditioner is also great! I just used it and loved it! 🥰
The constant washing and resetting would break and damage my thin strands for sure. I would say this is worse then black girl curls in my opinion, for my hair in particular anyway.
Your thoughts are definitely valid and I was concerned about that too at first. However, my hair is getting better by the day and feels the best it’s felt in forever! I’m also seeing way less hair breakage but I think that’s because it’s so super hydrated and moisturized now. Time will tell all though 👀😅
@adwoamk8918 You are right, it could be damaging to some. I tried this method before I knew about Anthony Dickey's method, but without the styler, my super short hair broke off a lot. I loved and really hoped this would be helpful to retain length just like how we shower and moisturize our skin with lotion. We keep learning.🙃
I have not done this method in a while. However, during the summer, I did it every day, and my thin, fine, 3c/4a hair actually blossom and looked the best it ever had since I went natural in September 2009. The more you do it the healthier and less work you have to do for your hair. I believe it depends on the products you use. My hair cannot take heavy creams with Shea Butter or thick gels. Products like the Kinky Curly Knots Today or Aloe Vera base products and hair milks works wonders for this fine strand natural. Listen to your hair. Anthony Dickey's method I'd simply to hell sisters with tighter Curl patterns to learn to hydrate our hair with water and use conditioner as a softening agent. I will try a method completely first to make sure it does what it says... (commit fully to it) if it doesn't, I'll leave it alone.
So I'll check this method out but are we totally washing our hair everyday or just wetting it, applying conditioner and then gel? Today is wash day so I want to give it a try. Thank you!!!
I’m bathing my hair daily in conditioner then setting with my styler(s) of choice. Once per week I’m using @hairrules no sudsing shampoo. Then every 2-3 months you’re supposed to clarify the hair. Hope that helps. 🥰
Hey beautiful! 🥰 Yes, we are basically co-washing/bathing our hair in conditioner daily. Then once per week we wash our hair with a No Suds Shampoo like the one from Hair Rules. Also, we’re supposed to clarify the hair once every 2-3 months. Hope that helps. 💖
I think you’d have to experience it to fully understand it. BUT….I totally understand you being like ummmmm hard pass! Lol 🤣😆😂 I wish I could explain my experience but it’s hard to do it justice. With that said, not everything is for everyone and that’s okay too. 💯 I’m just excited to have found this method because it may end up saving my hair! ♥️🙏🏽 Oh and I think he recommends this method because tight kinky, coily and curly hair is dryer than looser curled and straight hair. So bathing it daily in conditioner makes the hair extremely moisturized. It also makes it easier to maintain and handle etc. I can definitely vouch for that notion. 💖
You can tweak it to fit into your routine. I do mine every 7 days with shampoo and conditioner, reconstruction every two weeks, two-step protein every 6 weeks etc. The point is; to take what you need and add what is convenient for you
It has worked great for me for the past 10 years, it takes me about 15 min in the morning, and depending on the product I can last up to 4 days between washes if I want to. I don't even use that much product. The biggest thing for my hair is it needs to stay moisturized all the time and my scalp needs to stay clean.
His method isn’t realistic to me because people have busy lives. Maybe if my hair was straight or short & curly then yeah. My hair health is actually improving without drenching it in water everyday
Well I can say that after having tried Dickey’s method, I was surprised to find that it is very realistic to do daily. However, do you have to do it daily? Not necessarily because I think it depends on your hair. Dickey even says that. My hair can last several days with the method but I love how amazing it feels after I reset it. Not to mention, it’s super quick and easy to do. At the end of the day, you need to find what works best for YOU and YOUR hair and leave the rest alone. If what you’re currently doing has your hair thriving at its top potential then no need to fix what’s not broken. 💖
This is literally how I do my hair! Im gonna try doing this every day instead of every week. My hair reaches bra strap length, my goal is tailbone length by the end of next year. I also incorporate hair grease in my regimen and my hair is thriving! This is my 5th time growing my hair super duper long ☺️
Love it!! 😍
which grease do you use?
But seriously, thank you for the awesome input.

I appreciate you! 🥰🤗
The method is WORKING for you!!!! I too am back to this method. Should have never left.
I do shake mine and it helps my tightly coiled hair with separation. Your hair turned out fricking amazing. Anthony is the GOAT!!!😊
Oh I bet your hair looks amazing! 🤩 He’s truly the GOAT FrFr♥️🙌🏽 AND…..thank you so very much beautiful! 🥰🤗😘
Do you still do it? If so, any pearls of wisdom for those of us who are new to it?
Also how do you or did you primarily dry your hair?
Thank you 💖
Right...I remember putting a ton of conditioner but I wasn't consistent and I think I put it in a bun.lol
Can you please let us know what you did to dry daily & how you dry your hair quickly at night to not sleep with wet hair?
@@babyg7796 hey you can always sit under low temp hooded hair dryer or even diffuse you hair

Hey sis, CurlMix system is built around the same premise. You could try theirs instead of his. They're a lil cheaper but both are meant to be applied in the shower
Great point and very true! I do love me some CurlMix! 😍
It definitely makes sense that detangling would be easier since the method has you removing shed hair more often instead of waiting a week or two. 🤔
@esthertjones that's true I agree. I'm not sure where the idea came from that we need to go 7 or more days with a wng. I think listen to your hair and wash when you need to.
Aww thank you beautiful! I’ve been playing around with different heat settings to find sweet spot. I’m loving this experiment 😍
@@esthertjonesAbsolutely! And the awesome thing is you can easily do it with your fingers which makes setting your hair a breeze! 😍

Thanks so much for this series...just what I was looking for to understand this method better.
You're very welcome! I’m glad it was helpful Sis! 💖
Be careful saying buckwheat because you’ll get accused of texturism etc especially with some of the creepers who come offer here and read/watch then go make videos feeding off of my content 👀😆
But, you literally just explained my head of hair to a T!!!!

Been using his method for over 2 months after a big chop. My hair has grown back over 2 inches. Regular shampoo actually do dry natural hair immensely.

I’m honestly still trying to figure out what works the best for my hair.

Okay I’m going to answer question by question.
Looks are deceiving and that’s why you have to be careful about whose advice you follow. My hair looks healthy but I assume you it’s not. The splits I have from the method I was following are unreal. I care about it because it impacts the overall health of my hair. Meaning, it’s hard to grow damaged hair.

Which did you use first? Do you have conditioner as well? Is there a full video.
I appreciate your input and advice! It’s extremely helpful Luv! 💖💯
@@shelly.v.247 I think using leave-ins and the daily sets help prevent the humectants from doing you dirty. But that's just a guess. I'm going to have to try this. But I'll have to wash my hair because I've been using hair grease in my hair. Wish me luck. And I'll update for sure.
If I had low density and fine hair, I would not use Big Poppa at all. I’d probably be more of a mousse girl for volume.
My hair and creams don't get along😂. I need a good gel.
👀🤣
I started with a cool setting then started playing around with it each day.
Wow thank you so much for your detailed response. It’s very helpful! 🤗
My pleasure Sis! 💖
Your hair looks gorgeous
I know! Jk 👀🤣
They say Trader Joe's Nourish conditioner is that stuff... I've never used it as of yet.
It’s bomb if you can find it 😍
I don’t like to shampoo and condition in the shower, can this method work if I use my kitchen sink…
Yes, I would say absolutely it can.
That was so bomb 💣 ❤
Thank you Luv! 🥰
Your hilarious 😂 love your hair❤
Haha thank you beautiful! 💖🤗
Your hair your head!!! Preach! I love that you're having fun with your hair again.
I have to wonder though, if you're following the method of resetting daily, do you even need a gel? Leave-in conditioner may be enough since you don't need the style to hold for multiple days. 🤔
Looking forward to the rest to the series!
Absolutely Sis! And can I just say how much I appreciate how positive you always are! 💖💯
Great question! I think if I had silkier hair what was looser curled I could get away with it. I think my hair would be ginormous of o didn’t apply any gel. I might have to test it just to see but idk lol 🤷🏽♀️
@@shelly.v.247 I love ginormous hair so I'm always advocating for it 🤭
@@esthertjonesI love it too but sis it’s gotta look right. 🤣
@@shelly.v.247 that's what bobby pins are for 😉
So is the Cantu conditioner a staple for you?
Okay sweet! No I actually have never tried that brand but I’ve heard good things about it.
Good morning!!!❤
Good morning Luv! 💖🤗😘
Did you rinse the conditioner completely out before adding the styler
Yes and then I add in a leave in before adding in my styler. 💖
Idk 🤷🏽♀️
Thank ton for sharing your experience. It’s extremely helpful!
And the drying time is the only negative factor IMO. I’ve been trying to see what I can do to get around it or make it quicker because it’s honestly the longest part for me. 😅
Probably got moisture overload.
@@BionAvastar3000 I’ve been researching and that’s hard to do when you are pushing so much oil into the hair via conditioner.
Thanks
🥰🤗
Hey Shelly you’re is gorgeous probably try method ❤
Oh thank you beautiful! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts. 🥰
Have fun with your hair, now let me watch 🤣🤣🤣🤣
👀🫣🤣
Its amazing how anykne can tell us what to do, or what to buy, and we fall for it, even if the person just starts making up things as we go along. Yet! If a family member tells us the same thing we ignore them. Just saying
👀😅
I’m confused…If you do this every day or couple of days how does this save time when you have to dry it?
I know it’s really hard to wrap your head around it all but the benefits outweigh the dry time. Your hair feels amazingly soft, hydrated and moisturized! It’s super fast and easy to set. If I added it up, it only takes 30 minutes to set and dry it. The curls look phenomenal too! The main drawback is the drying time because that is the longest part of the process. However, it’s worth it for how the hair feels and looks. If I could diffuse it for 5-8 minutes then air dry the rest that would completely offset the dry time. We shall see. 💖
Wonder how this method will work on short hair.
Awesome! Checkout @SimplyTamZ 😍
Its expensive to me. He states u have to use lots and lots of conditioner. And i experienced product build up
True, but I think it depends on the products you’re using etc.
So idk 🤷🏽♀️
I don’t think any one method is for everyone. You take the meat and leave the bones. For me, this one offered a ton of meat. 💖😆
❤❤❤❤
🥰😘
your soooooo Funny!!!!
Haha thank you Luv! 🤣💖🤗
What is the name of the conditioner you using
I’ve been trying different ones. I put a couple in the description but basically anything with split that doesn’t have silicone in it for now. Suave Almond & Shea Butter conditioner is also great! I just used it and loved it! 🥰
She cute she cute !!!!!!

@shelly.v.247 Thank you for breaking it down. Much appreciated!! Had to get clarity bc you know I'm "nosey". 😁🤣😅
Haha my pleasure and yes we is real NOSEY FrFr! 👀🫣🤣
@@shelly.v.247hey Sis, question ~ you’re using conditioner everyday ~ washing every 7 days?? Thanks👛👛
I’m pretty sure I will never try this. I don’t have time to do my hair every day. I’m lost in why this needs to be done from his perspective.
I think you’d have to experience it to fully understand it. BUT….I totally understand you being like ummmmm hard pass! Lol 🤣😆😂
I wish I could explain my experience but it’s hard to do it justice. With that said, not everything is for everyone and that’s okay too. 💯
I’m just excited to have found this method because it may end up saving my hair! ♥️🙏🏽
Oh and I think he recommends this method because tight kinky, coily and curly hair is dryer than looser curled and straight hair.
Your replies are so professional lol
Haha thank you Luv! 😆💖🤗
I work 7 days a week and it's all I do because it's so quick and gives me the best results. I air dry. 👍🏾
@@BklynBabe Do you cowash it at night or morning?
