    If she called herself a bald headed baddie.... Wouldn't that be a complement... As she was complementing her new look.... There's a tone and a space for people that have dealt with alopecia and hairloss but let's also allow space for people to enjoy and celebrate their acceptance of their loss of hair in whatever form that comes in.
    Both Shelly and the commenters feelings are valid but one shouldn't impose over another when the tone and intent was jokingly and playful. Just my thoughts as a bald headed baddie 🧑🏾‍🦲

      Wearing my hair straight is easier to maintain daily but it’s a lot to do because of how short it is. So wearing it curly is easier to do but then I have to refresh it daily for it to look right. 😅 I’ve been leaning towards wearing it curly more often right now but I might switch it up soon. ✨💖

    4:36 you heard so many people say it because it's such a massive thing in our community to call people bald-headed when they clearly aren't bald headed. ever since i was born black in America all you ever hear is other black people calling other black people bald headed for having short hair or saying that people are bald-headed under their wigs and weaves. it's such common place in black American spaces that it makes sense two jokingly call yourself bald-headed for having short hair since for a long time (and even still nowadays) people still use that as an insult against black women with short hair or who they assume to have short hair or even all of us as a whole.

    • @shelly.v.247
      @shelly.v.247  5 месяцев назад +2

      You know, you’re so right about everything you said! I never even stopped to think about it in those terms. However, I will say that presently I hear it used in a much different context. I hear people say it as a very positive way and highlight it to mean you look extremely stunning!
      For example, when I was talking about big chopping several of my friends told me to come on over and join them in bald headed baddie world! They said girl you’re going to be super sexy fly with short hair! So I just repeated what I was hearing because I thought it meant something positive. 😬
      But you raise a great point and I think it can honestly go both ways because I’ve heard it positioned as such. So I’m just gonna stick with saying I’m a short haired baddie now. However, at this point I might even just drop it all together 👀🫣😝

      @@shelly.v.247 Thanks for the welcome sweetie! I'm a baby fine textured 3C/4A. I have the shrinkage of type 4 and the texture usually seen in type 3. Stylists and other naturals always say it's 3C, but it shrinks way too much to really be. I like the LOIS hair typing system bc it focuses on curl shape/pattern and texture vs curl size. That's what really matters when it comes to how your hair will respond to products and ingredients.
      My hair hates silicones and heavy oils. I like hydrating ingredients like water, glycerin, and aloe. All the products I love have those in the first few ingredients.
      My daily go-to is Cantu Care for Kids Leave in. It's thick, moisturizing, and hydrating. My fave foam is Elite Hair Care USA, and my favorite soft gel is Pattern Beauty Styling Custard. Firm gel is 4UByTia. When my hair was long, I loved the clear Fantasia IC Gel w Sparklelites.

    The excitement I got from seeing a new video from you🤩 Love the information & demonstration you showed❣️
    Can you explain what made you choose the specific leave in and cream styler you used? Just getting input on how to go about choosing products (it’s sooooo many to choose from). I don’t have any social medias (keeps me out of trouble😄) so I’m not able to view your IG lives😔

      Aww you’re so dang sweet and thank you! 💖
      Yes I can explain what I’m looking for when selecting products because chile there are so many!!! 😅
      Leave-in: I’m just looking for something that pairs well with my styling products. Meaning it won’t cause flaking or for it to bead up. 😝 I also realize my hair loves thick and creamy products. So I reach for stuff like that now. Unless I’m silk pressing my hair. Then I want a very light leave-in.
      Creamy Styler: I have been trying different ones out (on IG 😛) to help capture a more moisturized wash and go. Especially since I want soft, touchable and flexible curls. The issue is you have to find one what doesn’t cause flaking or beading up with a gel styler.
      Gel Styler: I look for something with a medium to soft flexible hold. If I use Big Poppa by itself, it’s a little too hard drying for me. So I’ve added in a cream styler to help soften it.
      Lastly, I live a in very dry climate. So I also pick my stylers to accommodate that part of the equation. However, I currently am in a semi humid climate for vacation and my hair is loving the humidity with this combo.
      Hope that all makes sense and is helpful. 💖🤗

    • @jdbailey442
      @jdbailey442 5 месяцев назад +3

      When was the last time you had your Vitamin D and Ferritin/Iron levels checked? If either is deficient or on the lower end of normal, you will feel exhausted. Also, make sure you have a regular nighttime schedule, and if you drink coffee during the day, that you stop around 11am-12pm. Caffeine stays in your system for 12 hours.

    • @shelly.v.247
      @shelly.v.247  5 месяцев назад +1

      Great question! So I would say you need to look at 3 things to start with.
      1. Depending on how long ago you started working out you could just be tired from starting a new workout routine. That can last 1-3 weeks.
      2. You could have 1 or more vitamin deficiencies. I’d check vitamin D, Iron and Ferritin (stored iron) for starters.
      3. It could also be your thyroid or sex hormones (estrogen, testosterone, progesterone etc.). So you might want to consider getting everything fully checked out.
      There could definitely be other reasons why but these would be a great place to start. Hope it’s helpful and great job on getting back into the gym! ✨💪🏽✨

      I have a TWA (1.5”) and I’ve been adding my moisturizer every other day. On the other days, I find that spraying my hair with water and running my hands over my hair is all I need to do. I can still feel the moisturizer on my hair.
      I’m also not focused on curl definition, so maybe that’s the thing.
      Considering your question, I might even be able to go longer in between applications.

    • @shelly.v.247

      Thank you and great question! I use the Hawaiian Silky as my leave-in so I don’t consider it a styler.
      I live in the desert and desire a very soft and moisturized wash and go so I used a cream based styler for that reason. Hence the CurlDaze creamy curl styler.
      Next, I need something with some hold because the cream styler doesn’t offer enough to hold my curls fully. I also wanted something that doesn’t dry hard and crunchy. Big Poppa is the perfect styler to top it all off!
      Lastly, the reason I don’t just use Big Poppa alone is it dries down too hard and stiff for my hair when I use it alone.
      I hope that all makes sense. 🥰

    I’m super late (obviously), but can we stop pushing our personal beauty standards on other people?…that’s not their responsibility to adhere to them….
    And what I’m speaking to is less of this video specifically and more to a long-standing perspective of American men and women when it comes to women with short hair and bald heads. I’m quite over it if you can’t tell. There are whole cultures, older cultures, black cultures, where women and girls wear bald heads, femininity and beauty unbothered. They would never see their baldness in a negative or masculine light, it would be unheard of.
    It’s perfectly fine to appreciate the long-haired woman beauty standard. I’m an active participant myself. What does that appreciation have to do with other women choosing to explore another standard? Is it not their right? It certainly isn’t unhealthy to cut your hair. Who are we to take away a beauty and confidence that they never gave up? Just because you might in the same scenario due to your personal beliefs. Can we not just celebrate each other and call it a day?
    Honestly, in her situation, it truly sounded like she was grieving a loss of something important to her. I recognize that. Though I don’t see that as a reason to impress your grief upon other people, especially via the internet. Personally I think that’s reserved for your Circle. Nobody else is responsible for someone else’s grieving process. They have a right to offer you support or leave you be. It was very understanding, gracious and unnecessary for you to apologize.
