    My hair strands can’t tolerate coconut oil it causes my strands to feel hard. Silicone prevents water from penetrating my hair. I’m glad this works for you though. I no longer subscribe to all the BGC methods as I currently DC weekly, use a leave in, cowash and cut on blown out hair. However, not all of there methods were misleading or damaging. Weekly washing contributed to my scalp health. Knowing your hair is imperative to healthy hair.

      I totally agree on everything you’ve stated. I don’t use raw coconut oil for the exact reasons and that’s why I use a formulated coconut oil which doesn’t cause the hair to feel hard whatsoever.
      Silicones can be amazing for the hair if you understand why to use them as well as how to use them. However I certainly understand the concerns with both coconut oil and silicones.
      I’ve really been digging deep to understand my hair better and create what works for me. I see you’re doing the same and I love that for all of us! Knowledge is power‼️🙌🏽💖🥳

      @@shelly.v.247I just want to say there are tons of scientific studies that prove that using coconut oil, raw coconut oil, is good for your hair especially if you use it before shampooing it. I don't understand why people are saying things that are literally the opposite of what the study say. both oils and silicones are not impenetrable seals. In fact coconut oil would be the worst sealant because of its ability to be absorbed into the hair shaft rather than just sit on top. The reasons why the studies promote coconut oil is because when coconut oil is absorbed into the hair shaft and you wet your hair It prevents excessive swelling of the hair strand. every time you wet your hair especially when you saturate it in the shower your hair strand swells which leads to quicker wear and tear over time. coconut oil severely restricts this. This swelling can damage your cuticles and leave the inner cortex weak and more susceptible to breakage. some people's hair obviously doesn't like coconut oil and that's okay. and sometimes coconut oil doesn't fit in your personal routine. or maybe you don't even wash your hair that often so you don't really need the protectiveness of the coconut oil. regardless I find it weird that people are saying baseless statements when there's literally a crap ton of studies that say the opposite. i don't use pure oils because silicones (which are basically synthetic oils) have amazing properties that pure natural oils just don't have. however coconut oil has been well documented as one of the few oils/waxes/butters that can penetrate the hair shaft. most oils cannot and silicones cannot as well.

    • @shelly.v.247
      @shelly.v.247  10 месяцев назад

      Yasssssssss you just summed up why I’m using it! It also helps protect against protein loss in the hair! Thank you for your awesome response! 💖

      I feel like our hair is about as different as our skin. We all like different moisturizing routines that work for our bodies. Some of us have drier skin than others. Some of us have specific skin conditions we need to treat differently. Not everyone likes lotion. Not everyone likes oils. We all do what works specifically for us to keep our skin feeling good. I say if your hair feels good over the course of a couple days, and you can detangle it easy enough, and you respect your mids and ends, keep up what your doing!! The only thing to do is be patient as you rinse and repeat.

    Love, love, love your new routine. I use oils and silicones. People don’t understand the it is the BIULD UP of too many silicones that cause a problem. If we’re going to tell the truth, tell the whole truth. Wash your hair and you won’t have a problem. You will be able to reap the benefits and move on.

    While i understand this way of washing is what you are doing for YOUR hair and works for you, i also want to dispel this myth that oil and product are the only things that we wash off the hair(and scalp). That couldn't be further from the truth. We live in a world with many environmental pollutants( even more so in cities), dust is around in most places, as well as general air born bacteria, especially if you visit or work at a hospital.
    With that being said, i think you should reconsider the idea that you won't shampoo along the length of your hair with at least one rinse every wash day.
    Thats like not washing your legs, face, and torso but only washing arm pits, groin, and maybe feet, because those are the only places where sweat and oil cause odor.
    Yes similar to you, some people will also say they wash those the legs, but only sometimes. However, I just cant say I recommend that either given the circumstances i mentioned above. As a side note, its an 100% no no for people who struggle with acne.
    I say this as a healthcare professional btw and definitely not trying to be shady, just educational. 😊
    Personally i think the folly of the bgc method was making you use harsh shampoos frequently in the absence of building up from heavy products or oils/grease. If youre only using water soluable gels with no leave in or oils, you shouldn't need anything but a moisturizing shampoo most of the time, especially if hair is color treated. Lastly, all hair benefits from oils at least on the ends to keep it healthy and long, even people with healthy straight hair do this. how much more kinky curly hair?

    • @shelly.v.247
      @shelly.v.247  10 месяцев назад +1

      I appreciate your perspective but I know how clean my hair gets or not when I allow the shampoo lather to just rinse through my hair. It can at times get squeaky clean! So I listen to my hair and I move accordingly.
      However, I appreciate your opinion and thank you so very much for sharing it with me and our other curl friends. 💖

It sounds like you're responding to the condition of your hair right now, which I feel is essential and what I feel like many "tried and true methods" miss. I am team pre-poo with silicone free conditioner or coconut oil to detangle prior to shampooing. If I do not my hair is a tangled mess. I have started using silicones as well however only in my rinse out conditioners and maybe in my deep conditioners if they are not in the first 5 ingredients. I clarify my hair every 2 weeks anyway so I do not concern myself too much with them anymore. Your hair is gorgeous. Thanks for the video.

      I’ve found that some of the sulfate & sulfate free shampoos are strong enough to remove the silicones from my hair. So I don’t have to clarify to remove them. However, I still do clarify periodically when needed first certain things.

      Oh wow, you’re so right! I bet it was the Alikay that you could slick your hair back with and achieve a very firm hold. That stuff can give you helmet head easily if used alone. 🤣 However, when paired with Big Poppa and used as a light topper, it gives just enough hold to for a more flexible set. 😁
      Also, thank you for the sweet compliment. I truly appreciate it Sis! 🥰

    • @shelly.v.247
      @shelly.v.247  10 месяцев назад +1

      I only used his method to get my hair back hydrated. I love his method and I’m a big advocate for it but I struggled with the drying time. That was the hardest part for me because my hair is so dense. However, I will say that as I did his method I was able to go longer and longer between washes. That’s what prompted me to create my own method. It gives me 5-7 days and my hair stays super hydrated and moisturized feeling. 🥰

    With the installation of the pre-poo, you are doing what I used to do before I began the Anthony Dickey Wash-n-go method. I LOVE it….but, I stopped doing the pre-poo before my weekly shampoo (I co-wash every 2 days until day 7….that’s my serious “Wash Day”). I can’t find the Big Poppa styling gel so I sometimes just go with only a good dose of Leave-in only, which I had never done until I started doing the Anthony Dickey Method. I did try using a little Vaseline to seal my strands for a twist out and my hair seems to love it. It’s so dry now (Winter…ugh!) I got desperate!! Keep the vlogs coming!!!I’ll keep searching for the Big Poppa!! 🤣🥰

      Go back and look at the date stamps I put on those video clips you’re referencing. May 1, 2023 is when I first blew my hair out and realized it was extremely damaged.
      The video clip dated October 24, 2023 was 6 months later. That’s after I started reimplementing oil & butter rich products (ex: DC, Leave-in, oil and getting blown out cuts etc ).
      So basically you’re seeing very damaged hair (May 1st) verses healthier hair (October 24th).
      I included those clips so it could place some context around why I am using the current haircare routine that I’m using. Especially for new subscribers to my channel. ☺️
      Hope that all makes sense. 🥰

    • @shelly.v.247
      @shelly.v.247  10 месяцев назад +4

      There are no wrong ways but I now prefer to do it this way because I like how the rinse out seems to seal and help protect my hair due to the silicone in it.
      Also using a rinse out first may not be a bad idea if you’re detangling with it because it’ll help you cut down on how much deep conditioner you need to apply.
      Sis honestly there are so many ways you could do it. So just do what makes your hair look and feel great!

    Idk hard hold gel maybe a good point - But I have high porosity hair - hard to find a gel that sets my curls… any options ?

    • @MzV2C
      @MzV2C 10 месяцев назад +2

      Hey I’m a high porosity curly/coily too and yes our routine and products must be different inthat our goal is to seal atmospheric moisture out. That being said I ❤️Jello Shot by Ecoslay… it is a hard hold botanical gel that add shine and makes hair frizz free. It can be crunchy but I use a little Kinky Curly Custard underneath and I get a cast that beaks to reveal super definite moisturized curls that can easily last 10 days! I find it impractical and potentially harmful to wet my hair multiple times a week additionally spritzing water or a moisturizer on my hair after the initial set is disastrous in that it creates more frizz. My hair stays super defined shiny and moisturized with no tangling min fairy knots and remains largely detangle dat all times. Ecoslay also has a gel called Orange Marmalade for those who don’t need strong hold… I use it beneath Jello Shot for added moisture. They are expensive now but if need wait til Easter or Mothers Day then stock up. I tend to buy in bulk for the year during Black Friday. Bee Girl Custard by the Doux is good but I find it drying so I must restyle if I need it to last more than 4 days. Curl Daze has a great shiny gel also. Let me know which one you try and how it works for you!

    • @CloverCutthroat
      @CloverCutthroat 10 месяцев назад

      I second The Doux Bee Girl Curl Custard! It has a very firm hold and high shine. If I was forced to only use one styler for the rest of my life, it would be that one.

    • @esthertjones
      @esthertjones 10 месяцев назад

      If hard hold gels are working for you, then keep at it, I think the other responders have some great options BUT consider, do you REALLY need to set your curls? Can you just love them as is without defining to the max?

    • @shelly.v.247
      @shelly.v.247  10 месяцев назад

      My hair actually became high porosity in several areas from the damage it sustained. I still have a lot of it left but am able to still use the flexible hold stylers. However, it’s one of the reasons I am using the types of products that I’m using for my wash day. I know they’ll help smooth and close the cuticles that are more raise in those high porosity areas.💖

    • @shelly.v.247
      @shelly.v.247  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you so much!! 💖 Counting the time spent with the oil in my hair I’d say 3.5-4 hours 1 day per week. I’m considering doing the oil prepoo the night before and then it’d cut an hour off of my routine. However, when the oil is in my hair that’s when I drink my coffee and eat it straighten up around the house. So I’m still doing other things.
      Hope that answers your question beautiful. 🥰

    oooh! Those curls and coils are defined and poppin'! Your new routine is showing results! Yasss, love the D38 too. AHG put me on that one as well. I've been using the unbrush recently and absolutely love it, so light and gentle going through tangles. I switch between using them depending on how I feel...but I must say the D38 pops the curls better/defines better than the unbrush. I'm still scared of the 'cones. But like, do you need to use a clarifying shampoo to get the silicone off the hair? Or is needing that just a myth? I wonder. I was gifted a mini-set of Olaplex products and most of them have silicones all up in them! I may get brave and try them, I just want to make sure I'm actually getting the cones off properly so it doesn't build up. I'll check out those vids you linked.
    I just got some K18 but haven't tried it yet. Something to try over the holidays. Thanks for the tips on how to properly use it! I'm with you on leaving the hard crispiness of it all behind. I've found that if I'm wetting/resetting my hair multiple times a week, then having a hard hold isn't necessary b/c I don't need 7+ day hold. I'm still doing a version of the AD method: shampooing 1xweek (or more if needed) and then cowashing 2-3xweek. No more dried out strands for me🙌🏾. Anywho, thanks for sharing your new routine, I love that you are doing you...listening to what your hair needs instead of forcing yourself to follow a set of "rules" to a T. It's such a good inspiration for others to take the time to figure out what's best for their hair and be open to switching it up if that's what's needed ya know? Happy Holidays!

      Awesome message and I’m loving that your hair sounds like it’s thriving too now Sis! 😍
      As far as the silicones go you don’t need to clarify your hair to get them out. There are actually some sulfate free shampoos that can be more cleansing than sulfate containing shampoos.
      The videos I linked have other great content about that very thing. Check them all out and lmk what you think. 🥰
