    I tried this on Monday with Not Your Mothers shampoo, conditioner, leave-in and cream. It turned out so well! I was shocked. I hadn’t air dried my hair in YEARS. I feel like it’s going to be a go-to for me in the summer. I live in Colorado, so things dry quickly, but it’s getting cold to be having wet hair for too long.

    Oh my gosh. I’ve done this my entire adult life. I have a little bit of natural wave, but blow dries straight. I use curling gel, moose, and a scrunch spray. It was always my lazy day hairdo for work when I didn’t feel like blow drying and styling. I didn’t leave it soaking wet after the wash, though. Didn’t want to be cold working away from home all day. Haven’t done much in recent years since I’m at home, but definitely will try it out again now.

    Funny timing. I recently aired fried my hair with leave in only. Then when it was dried, added a tiny bit of water and gel and brought a bit more definition and curl into the game with the Bounce Curl brush. Super quick diffuse to lock it in. I was blown away how much I loved it. I guess I like my hair with less curl at the root, and I found the less I did to it, the less frizz I had, so, yeah. Play around. Everyone’s hair is different.

    Oh! And to get better volume, when applying stylers to upside down head, put a bit of product in your hands and spread on your palms. Slide your fingers into the mid length (3-5 inches from the scalp). Scrunch the product into the top lengths. Scrunch more product into the end and mid lengths like normal. Can do it when wet or damp styling. When I apply product to the roots like that, I have curl clumps from root to tip. The curl clumps at the scalp are not as large as further down the hair shaft, but when I fluff, I get nice volume.

    I love your shirt! 💚 And I'm going to try this but I don't have a non alcohol hairspray. I think I will try just lightly glazing over the exterior with a lightweight foam and see if I get similar results. This technique seems worth playing around with. I'm always looking for more minimal wavy hair routines with three kiddos!

    I love the shine you're getting and the natural look too your curls.
    I use root clips when I air dry. Just a couple. They help keep the hair from touching my face cause, like you, that drives me nuts. Bonus, it keeps the weight of my hair from pulling the curl out of the top of my hair. My hair also seems to dry faster.

    I would try this, but my hair takes way too long to air dry - like at LEAST 5 hours, that's with plopping well to get as much water out as possible. Just not feasible.

    I airdry my hair in the summer. But I need to scrunch every 10 minutes, to get better curls. When I don't do this, the curls hang out and become straight. The more I scrunch, the more curls.

  • @littlekyle

    Courtney - in regards to the comments saying your hair looks greasy... I disagree for one key reason: the shine in your hair is all over, not just the roots. If the ends of your hair were dry, it would not be the best routine... but your hair has consistent shine and moisture. You could experiment with slightly different products or the amounts you use if the results are not to your liking. Spraying a little bit of dry shampoo or volumizing mist on the roots when your hair is already dry could help. 😊❤

    Yes! This is totally how I use a cream with a little hold. It’s excellent for lazy days, especially since I keep racking up the chronic illness diagnoses and now I have POTS that causes crazy sweating (my heart rate jumps up like I’m doing serious cardio if I just stand up) so I should be washing my hair all the time (like daily, I also have MCAS so I react to my own sweat). I do remove extra moisture from my hair very carefully by a light scrunch w a microfiber towel and plopping w perfect haircare towel (seems to mess it up less) because otherwise my hair would be wet for 1/2 of my day. If anything is wonky after plopping, sprays or light foams are my go-to to get them back in their curl clump. It’s not quite as nice looking as letting it go from sopping wet without touching it, but I’m willing to trade for a faster air dry. And without any custards or gels, I find my hair air dries way faster. I also think it works for me because I have a looser curl pattern and now medium porosity hair.

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  Месяц назад +2

      Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I’m so sorry to hear about the challenges with POTS and MCAS-that sounds like a lot to manage, but I love how you’ve adapted your hair routine to make it work for you. Removing extra moisture with the Perfect Hair Care towel is such a smart move for faster drying, and sprays or foams are lifesavers for fixing any wonky spots! I totally agree that skipping custards or gels can speed up air drying, especially with a looser curl pattern. It’s amazing how thoughtful tweaks like these can make such a difference while keeping your hair routine manageable. Sending you lots of love and good vibes! 💛

    • @TheRootedTherapist
      @TheRootedTherapist Месяц назад

      @ thanks! I know you’ve had to figure out life with RA - and none of these chronic illnesses are easy to manage. And definitely try this technique with the Curlsmith Protein Cream - it’s probably my favorite for this because it has both protein and hold with the faster dry time of a cream (versus custards or cream gels). I get such nice results, and even the other day when it was snowing and I was running back & forth outside trying to fix my car key fob, was paying 0 attention to my damp hair that was drying & was flipping it out of my way & touching it, and I still got really nice waves.

  • @janabeckman545
    @janabeckman545 Месяц назад +1

    I air dry 90% of the time. It takes over an hour to diffuse dry. No time for that. I have dense, fine 2B/C curls. Shampoo, conditioner, leave-in during the less humid months. I use a detangling brush to distribute the conditioner then StoC. I use medium to strong hold gels scrunched into dripping wet hair, head upside down. I plop TWICE with the perfect hair care (PHC) towel, first plop for 5-10 minutes. The towel is really wet. I bend over, remove the hair from towel #1, then plop into a dry PHC towel for another 5-10 minutes. Out of the plop, I use CS effortless waves if there are any spots looking like they might frizz. Spray with hairspray. To prevent that wet shirt feel, I put wicking, microtek exercise scarf over my shoulders. If I want to dry more quickly, I gently clip the top half of my hair up and hover diffuse the bottom layer to get the sop out. Drop the top layers and then let it dry. If I diffuse out the sop on the bottom layers, My hair is dry in about 2 hours.

    One product I've had in my cabinet, but didn't feel I had much succese is Curlsmith's Effortless Waves. Decided to give it another try. The process I used was similar to what was shown. I ended up with very nice waves. I've been obsessed with trying to achieve curly curls rather than voluptuous waves. Really like the wavy look. My stylist calls it mermaid waves. 😀

    I can't co-wash, it looks so bad when I do! :P BUT I tried air drying like 75-80% of it and then drying it on low heat and speed and the lack of frizz was shocking! I wash with the Holly and Mint NYM shampoo and then the purple protein conditioner from NYM (i can't remember the name...). Then I used the Air Dry cream from Curlsmith and the Effortless Waves, let it air dry mostly then do a bit of hair drying which helps give me more volume. Air drying does cut down on the volume for me but I also fluff it upside down and it helps :)

    I used to cowash, then I moved to the UK and had to start using shampoo 😒 and now, 10 years in, I can’t even use conditioner because it weighs my hair down, I don’t know what to do anymore. Even shampooing only my hair doesn’t seem dry, which is fine, but I’m always feeling like I should deep condition, but can’t without my hair turning out flat 🤪

    No, I think it would be too heavy for me here in Pennsylvania. Our humidity is moderate to high, the temps stay cool to cold, and our water is very hard. I don't get frizz but I lose definition because my hair is fine. I love air drying but my hair isn't dry and looking for moisture to curl. It's silky, and needs to have a little alcohol in products to make sure those waves and curls stay

  • @RBXChas
    @RBXChas Месяц назад

    I've been feeling lazy lately about diffusing and haven't pulled out my blow dryer in a while. Air drying with either a LOT of mousse (Marc Anthony, lately) or the Garnier gel cream has worked pretty decently for me. However, my hair looks blah until I fluff my roots, which I do with my head upside down. So it's sort of wash and go, in that I don't need to diffuse it, but at some point I do need to step aside and fluff it. I haven't had an issue with frizz upon fluffing. The only downside for me is that it doesn't last, though to be fair I only sleep on a silk pillowcase-- in other words, I don't pineapple and/or wear a sleep cap.

      Have you watched any of her clarifying videos? She uses a shampoo with sulfates when she clarifies. She probably does it once a month or so based on her regular use of hair products. Those who use a bunch of products may need to use a shampoo with sulfates once every 2 or 3 weeks to remove buildup. It really just depends on how you style and what products you use... 😊

    • @QueenJaneway
      @QueenJaneway 13 дней назад

      @littlekyle 12 дней назад

      @@QueenJaneway I understand. I went through a time where my hair looked much the same. I am pretty sure Courtney washes her hair every 5 days or somewhere around there. Due to most sulfates being excessively drying, she uses a shampoo with harsh sulfates only when she clarifies (my best guess is once or twice a month). Hope this helps clear up any miscommunication...
