    ABOUT ME + SLEEPY SANTOSHA
    Hi! My name is Rachel. I am the creator of Sleepy Santosha. I am a certified yoga instructor who specializes in yoga for chronic illness. Although I hold two teaching certifications, the classes I teach are largely inspired by my own firsthand experiences with chronic illness and my personal yoga practice.
    Because I know what it is like to live with chronic illness, I am able to create yoga classes that intuitively support the needs of someone who is experiencing chronic pain, fatigue, brain fog, etc. and many of my classes can be practiced in bed. If the practice in this video didn't suit your needs, be sure to check out the other yoga classes on my channel. I try to provide a variety of intensity levels.

    I tried this this morning and I have to say I feel like I had more physical energy today!
    Obviously it's only been 1 day and it could be a number of factors but either way, I'm glad I did it!
    And it feels like a very doable habit to get into every day.

    Good day Rachel Marie! Thank you for your work. This video is my "go-to" for anytime of the day. I most appreciate the music selection and YOUR breathe instruction...inhale 1( a generous beat) exhale 1. Your pace is slow enough to allow for a full and juicy breath. Do you have a video with the same or similar style of breath instruction for an audible count to 10 or more? Do you have a playlist for your music selection? I would gladly pay for an audio of extended breath count over the gentle music. Thank you again.

      I'm so glad to hear my breathing pace works for you. It's something I always try to be conscious of! I don't have anything like what you're describing on youtube right now, but I do have a guided breath meditation available on my website. It's part of the free Spoonie Essentials Kit. You can find it on my home page: www.sleepysantosha.com

    OOh, peppermint and orange oils, I actually have those two! Thanks for the recommendation :-) I'm just getting into using aromatherapy with yoga and loving it. Yesterday I combined yoga positions with self-massage with my homemade oil blend. It was looovely, I think it has really helped the pain (I have CFS and fibromyalgia). I get the pain in my legs worst and that's the easiest bit to massage at least! xx

    Hi and thank you so much for sharing your wisdom. I too am a yoga teacher that has been ill for nearly 7 years since coming back from India. I picked up nasty bugs whilst over there and have chronic fatigue and pain as a result. I have had to modify my approach to yoga and I love your lessons. Blessings to you. X

    Hi, I've got a doubt. When I inhale and exhale I feel more like the chest is being filled with air and then release rather than any movement within my tummy. Is there something wrong with how I do it?

    • @SantoshaSpirit
      @SantoshaSpirit  6 лет назад +1

      shanthi suresh This is a very common problem, so try not to feel bad about it ☺️💜 With practice you can retrain your body to breathe correctly. It can help to lie on your back with the knees bent and feet flat on the floor. start by completely relaxing the muscles in your abdomen. Many of us hold a lot of tension here. Then bring your hands to your belly and see if you can direct the breath into your belly. Inhale, feel the belly expand. Exhale, completely relax. I hope this helps you! 🙏🏼💜

    • @shanthicharuvil
      @shanthicharuvil 6 лет назад +1

      Sleepy Santosha I feel the tummy expand with inhaling and relaxing with exhalation. I hope this is the right way. I have been suffer from chronic fibromyalgia since 2015 and have decided to take complete charge of doing whatever it takes to relieve the pain and make me a happier person.
      Goal one is to make a conscious effort to relax n make sure that my muscles aren't tensed up whatever activity I am performing ( even just sitting n reading or working with the laptop). Efforts to learn to sit and stand in the most relaxed manner.
      Many of your yoga videos are so helpful and I have been picking the poses n stretches that are most suitable for me and together they constitute 45 minutes of my daily routine of yoga now.
      I also feel the need to follow because afterall you are an inspiration. Since you have also been fighting chronic illness and yet maintaining your happiness level and going forward with yoga. So I understand how this must be helping you a great deal which is why you have decided to take the effort n spread the message to many of us who need it. Please continue to be the energised person you are and continue to inspire us warriors :)

      Hi, I did try this and I also came across another space where you said try to imagine the breath coming from the end of the spine-- now that really really helped. and with every inhale, my tummy grows and feels full and with the exhalathion, I have a doubt-- generally in yoga, can we exhale via mouth ? or is it only through the nostrils ?- which is the right way ?

    • @SantoshaSpirit
      @SantoshaSpirit  6 лет назад +2

      Hi Shanthi! You are not the only one who struggles with this. It’s actually something I used to struggle with too. When you inhale, you should feel your torso expand. On the exhale, everything relaxes and empties. Ideally, we want to be able to use the full capacity of our lungs. So first we relax our abdominal muscles so that the diaphragm is relaxed. When you inhale, you’ll feel the belly expand, then the ribs, then the upper chest. Exhale, the upper chest deflates, then the ribs, then the belly. Exhaling through the mouth is fine. It will be a more soothing and calming breath. I will tell you in the yoga practice videos when you should exhale through your mouth. I’ll be doing a video about all of this soon with more detailed explanation. Namaste 🙏🏼❤️
