- Ginault Ocean Rover II is without a doubt the best homage watch I’ve ever put on my wrist!
Let me tell you why in my longest, and most info-packed review yet 👍
Hope you stand the length and still like the video 😂❤️

I own the Ocean Rover One, and it simply is the best Submariner homage. It is not really an homage, for me it is the "best of Rolex". I actually sold my 14460 because I couldn't justify the extra cost compared to the Ginault. Altough there is controversy about the brandname, I admire that a former counterfeiter has turned himself and his company into a legal brand. Isn't that what we really wanted? So why all the hate? Nice review, Erik from Sweden
Thanks for watching and commenting. Well, in my eyes, that’s exactly what a homage should be. Not a straight copy but something that has been inspired by something else, and taken some elements from that other thing but still incorporating it’s own dna into the final product. Which Ginault have done here in an excellent way 😊
You’re right, that’s what we wanted. But still, I would like them to somehow have acknowledged the fact (if it was actually a fact and not false accusations) that they got caught in that way, at least apologize for their wrong doings and continue with their great work 👍
And I don’t know… If the guy earned millions from an illegal market, and then invested the illegally earned money into this brand, then the whole brand is founded on illegal funds. And somehow, that doesn’t taste good in my mouth…
But as I said, I don’t know that for sure and innocent until proven guilty I guess 🤷♂️
It is definitely a homage watch...
@@MarkDanger777 all diver watches are an homage of the Blancpain Fifty-Fathoms. Even the Rolex Submariner.
@Cedarcanoe all watches are an homage of the sundial
I ordered my OR2 on June 17th, and got the e-mail saying it was being shipped today, October 3rd. Your review is one of the main reasons that I ordered the OR2. I am more than excited to receive it than I have been for any watch. Thank you.
That’s fantastic and it makes me truly happy that my video helped you make the choice 😊🙏
Very nice review. I’m ordering the Rover 2, as fast as I can. Cheers, Matt ✌️👍😃
I own both OR1 and OR2, and they really do hold their own against the big boys like Rolex and Tudor which I also do own. Nothing else in the Sub homage market can rival what Ginault is offering in terms of quality and craftmanship.
I have an ORII with a green aluminum bezel. The watch is awesome and keeps great time. The controversy was pathetic. It looked like a bunch of geeks with too much time on their hands having a self righteous hissy fit. Ginault were right to blow it off. Nice watch. Thanks for the video!
Haha well said 👏
why would they respond. they dont have to prove anything. c'mon now dude
I really don’t care if Ginault is TC. The ginault ocean rover 2 is basically my favorite daily no date sub, even when compared to the black bay 58.
Well, to each his own. Some care, some don’t. Some care too much, and some just a little and still buy the watch 😂 Thanks for watching and commenting ❤️
I used to own a TC Sub V6 back in the day.
Nice vid. I keep my OR2 in a winder next to a Tudor Black Bay 41 diver with an ETA movement. It is a tough choice when I open the box. The quality on the Tudor is just a hair better, but the overall styling of the Ginault usually wins out. It is the Submariner I would spec if such a thing was possible. Slimmer lugs, sword hands, glide lock. A love letter to a timeless classic.
Thanks 😊 thanks
If I knew about this brand before buying the recent Mido I may have gone this route, what a nice looking and appears to be a well built watch.
I have two and am very pleased. I own the small indices version without the magnified glass date that you can't purchase anymore. I don't know about the maker but I'm never selling either of them. This watch is fantastic
Ginault should sign/brand their clasps. If San Martin can do it for $300 models, Ginault can do it for $1500 models. San Martin uses BGW9 lume as well.
I own the OR1, and out of a collection of around 15 watches it's my daily. The whole package is extremely good quality, and I like you did wonder about all the controversy, but in the end I just ended up forgetting about it and just enjoying the watch. I'm lucky enough to have formed a relationship with a wonderful AD so I should be getting my SM soon, at which point the OR1 will most likely go to my brother-in-law. You're completely right though, it simply is the best homage.
Thanks for watching 😊 The OR1 is a beautiful watch in its own right and I think you’ll have a hard time letting it go 😊
@@backintimewatches I think you could be right. It's a date one also, 181175LSIN
I owned the first edition Ginault Ocean Rover. Sold it and now i miss it
I understand that feeling… 😞 But thanks for watching 👍
Ginault or Tisell who are using Rolex style glidelock (actually 1 to 1 copy) can not put their logos or names on the clasp due to Rolex glidelock patent which was registered in 2008. So, until 2028 when the patent expires, they can not put name or logo on the clasp.
Theta interesting information. Thank you 😊
have you checked out their new Silent Service model? original design!
I traded my GSL cermaic date black for a BB58, however I can see myself getting an aluminium date OR2 sometime down the line . It really is a beautiful watch, I'm not a hype guy but in this case its real.
Yeah, the hype is truly real on this one 👍
I'm fine with a generic clasp - I don't look at the clasp on wrist. I'd prefer a top grade movement rather than elabore. Don't mind the male end links if the lugs turn down a bit and it's not long lug-to-lug.
Just got my OR2 come through and it is a step above my OR1 in quality again. Honestly for the money I cannot think of another watch that gets close. It is a shame they have discontinued the OR2 now as if you want a real quality watch that nods to the classic Submariner style then getting this is a no-brainer. Very impressive.
Have the really stopped production on the OR2?
@@timnorris6287 yes about a year ago now. Shame
Dec 2023 it's available to order on their website
The only problem with this watch is it's too good- I have a lot of other watches that now just sit on my dresser as I wear this one every day. It's awesome.
Is this the same watch in the review by Random Rob?
Honestly don´t know :)
At least they’re not direct copies of a Rolex, save for the bracelet, clasp, case and bezel. The dial is very different from other direct homages. And the silent service appears to be entirely it’s own thing. I just don’t see why people are so mad…you think Christopher Ward manufactures all their parts in Switzerland? I guarantee some of the parts are cut in China. They make up for it by hand finishing these watches…not even Omega or Rolex do that. Eagerly awaiting my silent service to do a comparo with my Ward trident 300! Thanks for the video man!
Good review!
Just one thing that could be better: the music is way too loud!
As always great video I appreciate the beautiful view of the lake, And you always seem to show watches I've never seen before. Thank you for that👍
No man, thank YOU for watching and leaving such a nice comment ❤️
Well I hope you no longer believe info from the net.
I own the Ocean Rover 2 since one year.In my opinion it is the best Watch in this Price Category
Your opinion on it being a generic lock is silly , that's the point dude it's suppose to be brand less and it helps aftermarket too so you can put the bracelet on other watches
So, 36 minutes video, mostly praising the watch, and that’s the only thing you wanted to comment on???
Yes, I think it’s generic. And first you say that my opinion is silly, and then you follow that up with it looking generic is the point. So you agree it looks generic so that the bracelet can be used on other watches? Then my point wasn’t silly 👍
And btw, who uses the bracelet from one watch on another watch? Who does that?
I’d rather have a Ginault branding on the bracelet and buy myself a non-branded generic bracelet if I want to use it on another watch.
To each their own I guess 🤷♂️
Another fantastic review! Thank you for going into such depth and detail.
so great to listen to someone wax lyrical about a watch you own , cheers mate
Great review! I have one year the or2 and really is so close to real sub Rolex! I think its more beautiful from sub!
watch haters goin to hate..lol..especially you are that good. I love my Ocean Rover. Ginault should offer drilled or no drilled lugs..
I actually prefer the older version of the Ginault - it looks more like an homage to probably the best case-shape the Sub ever had (16610). If only they'd still offer that one and if only they offered it (or the Mk. II) with Mercedes hands. I do own a Milsub-homage (39mm OVM) and I do like the sword-hands on that model ... but on a "regular" Sub, you just gotta have those Merc-hands, IMO. Still: Even in pics and vids it seems pretty clear that the Ginault is a cut above most or all other high-end homages out there. With the right feature set, I would probably sell all my other Sub-homages and place an order for the Ginault.
What's the reference model for the watch on the video as their website is bit bad on information.
It’s all in the video my friend 😎
How do these fare up over time? Serviceability etc?
Why can't I find the OR 2 on the Ginault website?
They’re not selling it anymore 🤷♂️
прикольно! Ощущение, что с товарищем пообщался. Несмотря на языковой барьер ) Спасибо за обзор.
Love the cemetery.
😊
So the quality of the watch in Your hand does not matter? That should be above words if its as good as it claims.
I got the black version but I don't think so it's not antimagnetic !
What watch with SW200-1 or ETA2824-2 is anti-magnetic? None....Tudor uses the SW200-1 in their BB36 and that thing cost 3.6k USD, not anti-magnetic just for reference.
This or Sinn 556i?
Oh, great question that I can’t answer since I haven’t had the pleasure to try that Sinn 😊 But are they not quite different from each other? When it comes to looks at least. Sinn has no bezel and is very minimalistic 👍
Does the no date have a domed sapphire crystal?
Actually male end links work better on a smaller length watch head such as 47mm. Female work better on bigger 50mm watches...
Great review, very informative about the "Rolex copy controversy" too.
Gorgeous looking watch.
Dude, what is the name of the song in your intro, it’s awesome
Although a really good specced watch, it's still a homage watch brand that cost 1.8k, and with a selita movement($200). At that price point I'd rather get an oris aquis. Maybe if this watch was 1.1k then it's good. P.S I would buy an oris aquis only if its below 1.5k
Well, many brands use sellita movements, like Oris, Sinn, Christopher Ward, Eterna etc. And many of them cost more than this watch so…
To each his own 😊 I don’t mind homage watches. And even if I was, this is still a respectable homage in the way that it doesn’t do the whole “rip of the entire look completely and just put another name on the dial”, like Steinhart, San Martin and other brands do. There’s no watch in Rolex current lineup that looks exactly like this, so it’s a great homage in my book. Borrowing the best parts but not making it an exact copy 👍
@@backintimewatches yes that's why I said I wouldn't buy an oris for msrp
Where do you go for service? Where can I get more bracelets?
How is it anti magnetic???? Does it have a silicon hairspring or a soft iron cage inside?
I can't find this model on their site, how do you order one ?
Home the new baby and family are doing well Brother.
Review the watch you spent the first 7 minutes talking about nothing. Nobody is here for “the controversy” they’re here for the watch.
Thanks for telling me what to do with my own content. I really need more people like that in my life, who tell me what to do and how to do it. Like my parents when I was a kid and now my wife 👍
You know there is a fast forward option on videos right?
Does it wear smaller than the 42mm steinhart or squale? I've heard this feels bigger than 40mm...
Yes, it most definitely does wear much smaller than those two watches. This I know since I’ve owned a bunch of 42mm Steinhart and I currently own the Squale Tropic 42mm. It feels exactly like a 40mm Squale or 39mm Steinhart.
good info, i like this video!!
Maybe a Squale 1521 would be a choice instead of this🤷♂️? When you think of the controversy of what you said in the beginning of the review.. however very nice video 👍🏻, is it in Dalarna?
Thanks man, I really appreciate the kind words 🙏 And yes, Squale is great, I’ve owned several, but they’re still not the same quality as this one. Davosa would be my second choice.
But I’ve decided to use the term “innocent until proven guilty in a court of law” on this one. That’s the way I’d like life to treat me, and that’s how I’ll treat others 😊
And no, it’s in Småland 😊
@@backintimewatches Ok, nice! I have the Davosa Ternos 500m diver, super quality. :)
…and FYI to everyone watching this video. The whole watch industry is sketchy asf.
How does the Ginault compare to the San Martin?
I feel like wherever they source these parts is the same place the parts are sourced for some of the higher end fakes. Only difference is they don’t slap Rolex logos on this.
Be careful not to dive with the clock in the sea on a hot day! The bracelet gets rust !!!! At least for me in OR2 the steel is not of high quality!
John is the worst customer care contact I even met :(
Really? Why? Thanks for watching 😊
@@backintimewatches becasue he is ignoring customers. I had to send him tons of reminders for getting a reply from him.
@@jayce704 really? Can you share the details of the emails? What did you need from him? Did you buy the watch from Ginault?
I have purchased 3 OR1s and 4 OR2s from him and also required after sales services and they were all handled well. He always gets back to me within a few days. I never had trouble, sharing my personal experiences. I have also read a tone of good feedback for his service on the FB club.
Ive had nothing but good experiences with John, always returns my emails within a days time if not sooner. I have a OR2 and getting the Silent service when it launches
@@rolexsubcasewearsbettertha9571 Yes, I bought a watch from Ginault.
