I own both the OR1 and the OR2 and they really are that good in terms of its quality, can hang easily with my Sub and BB58, the hype is real. Ginault basically used the retired 5-digit mid-case and bezel size/proportion and integrated all the modern features of the 6-digit solidness to this platform, basically a dream watch that Rolex should have made.

Coming from someone who used to buy rolexes, and now the brand name isn't something I feel comfortable with due to the games played on the Grey market, the attitude of the authorised dealers, and the symbol of the brand in 2023 ( just a show off brand now ).

@@anthonyonline4740 I currently own the better of the two and that is the OR2. I wanted to hate the OR2 I never liked the homage thing. I was a big time watch snob. I wouldn't be caught dead in a quartz, or a seiko, or some homage. Hell, I wouldn't wear anything that wasn't over five figures even just hanging out at my house. Thats where I come from. I can buy the real deal rolex if I want. But I got an OR2 at a super deal thinking i'd wear it (only in my house haha) to see if I like the size and how it wears to determine if I want to get a 5 digit sub. Then I'd flip it for a profit. But I have come to like it so much I no longer want a 5 digit sub and I still have the OR2. I wear it as my daily quite often. The OR2 is better than a 5 digit sub in quality and I personally think it looks better also with the sword hands and maxi dial markers. I am not a fan at all of the fugly rolex super case 6 digit subs. The new 41 isn't that much better but it is an improvement, I may pick one up. I still prefer the OR2 over the new 41 sub looks and design wise.
I worked at a high end watch boutique in Vegas and I've seen just about every major sport watch out there in the metal, including micros, aside from a christopher ward. And nothing beats an OR2 for under $3k. I'd say even up to a higher price point of $4k but people will say the tudor in house movement beats a sellita. And they have a valid argument at that point. Movements aside the OR2 is Tudor quality I could argue even better for 1/4 the price. Tudor really isn't anything special. But marketing aside neither is Rolex for that matter. I'd say the watch level that clearly takes the OR2 out is the new gen Omega SMP 42 coming in at $5k. But the older omega 41 SMPc previous gen I'd say the OR2 is better quality than that as well (mechanical design fit and finish)... Breitling superocean is also worse than the OR2. The finishing on the case is about the worst I've ever seen especially at the price they charge. The dial is molded.... WTF....
If you want to discount a watch because some "dodgy past" and internet drama then do so. But working in the biz I've seen the major brands do all kinds of shady things behind the scenes and using chinese parts in super high end watches. So that mentality is a very slippery slope these days...

@N A And how are they better, exactly? Putting history and brand reputation aside as it can be very valuable to some people and mean very little to others. Seiko got the looks for sure at that price point, since they offer complicated, refined and unique dials. They don't offer much else, the accuracy and overall reliability is dodgy to say the least, and remains that way in the entire range until you get to Grand Seiko; Ginault, instead, offers close to (actually better) regulation than COSC standard. Ginault has a glidelock, Seiko only has a dive extension; Ginault's bracelet is the closer copy of a Rolex bracelet you'll find on the market, I guess it's a choice whether you like it more or less than a Seiko bracelet but it wouldn't be crazy at all to say it's better. And finally, QC (actually manufacturing tolerances but whatever) is probably better too, they are producing less so it's easier to check every single unit to an extremely rigorous degree, and then there is Seiko, do I need to say anything about that? You can still choose to buy a Seiko because they mostly don't make copies (not at that price point anyway) and because they have heritage, but objectively speaking, the Ginault has better specs than any Seiko under $2000. You can say the same about anything from Hamilton, Tag and Oris. The Aquis could be better built, although it isn't certain, but it costs at least $500 more and it isn't regulated at all. However regarding the first question, I think there are better watches for the money, anything COSC certified from Christopher Ward for starters could be a contender, probably a Longines Hydroconquest too if you are ok with trading movement accuracy for the excellent service the Swatch group provides (stores in every country too), and so on. Lastly I should add that plenty of people who own both Ginault and Tudor say the quality is practically the same, of how many brands can you say the same?

If San Martin can sign their clap and have an applied logo on their dial for a $350 watch, Ginault can do it for $1200.

I know right, along with why they stop making them in the first place. Come out with a OR3 with the signed clasp and a better way not to scratch the bracelet when you open the clasp hinge. They can even throw in different color ways while their at it.

So much better looking than the sub. Those stupid Mercedes hands really cheapen the sub as far as looks.

Isn't the owner of Ginault a former replica watch dealer/maker?
Definitely a quality watch but that's given when you source your watch cases and parts from good replica makers/factories in China.
Well either way, it needs a movement with longer power reserve. E.g. the newer La Joux-Perret SA G100

All watches are built in China so that designation doesn't matter.

      @@ryan850r Read my post again:
I'm not knocking on watches made in China.
I'm questioning the owner/founder of Ginault who's been in connection with counterfeit factories in China in the past
Made in China is not the point.

@@Emaratilfy he has totally done dodgy things in the past. I've also found my communication with the owner and my time in the FB group to be strange.
      It's a strange company. I'm staying away.

Yub we all know TC is behind the brand. That said the parts Ginault uses are not the common fake parts used in reps. Ginault or TC manufacture his own parts been doing that since the rep days, that's why his Subs were leagues above the others. Do your research. You will know

Here's a fun fact "At the beginning of his career, the great artist Michelangelo was a forger!" Should we now crucify all of Michelangelo's great work because of his earlier decisions? I don't care what the owner of Ginault did or didn’t do in the past. What matters to me now is that he is producing an awesome watch. I would almost say it's very close to Michelangelo's work in terms of greatness. The Ocean Rover 1 & 2 really is a great watch!

Looks great but would be improved by removing the last 2 lines of script on the dial. Less is more.

      100% agree.
The last 2 lines are unnecessary. It's like they tried hard to sound fancy. But nobody cares. It's just like any other dive watch.

I could be wrong, but Ginault's website could have the stupidest layout in the world. Basically, all I saw was 'DISCONTINUED'. Got turned off....and nope!

Too much Rolex, a very thin line between a high end copy or homage. Plus who is Ginault? Looks like a Parnis on steroids. Although the quality seems to be great, I would rather prefer a diver from Longines, Seiko, Certina or for just 500$ more a Omega Seamaster Quartz (the original bond watch) from the 90s.
