Rat Tail Cacti Restart

- In this clip, I use segments from my Rat Tail Cacti plant to restart a new healthy plant to overwinter inside. There is no point of bringing in a struggling plant that are is not looking healthy into a tight indoor space shared with other plants. It may have a hard time overwintering which means it could affect the other plants,, if it becomes susceptible to pests or disease. I have also been on a trend of downsizing some of my cacti, which have been over potted with too much soil.

How did I MISS THIS ONE??? I can’t believe you can hold those sections without gloves!!
The spines are rather soft! They don’t come out in your skin like some other spines do! Thanks for watching, my friend! 💕🌵🌵🌵😀
I just bought a Rat's Tail cactus and I'm so excited! With all the stress going on about the country, I'm filling up my house with plants. Thanks for sharing! That's a beautiful cactus!
Plants and my garden are my zen! I love my rat tail cactus! Enjoy! Thanks for watching! 🌸🌵🌵😀💕
@@PleasantPrickles I noticed my poor cactus spikes were turning brown and to my horror, I guess it was over watered! I'm restarting it as soon as my rooting hormone arrives from amazon today. I don't want to lose it. Your video is so relaxed and I'm hoping mine will survive!
@@SSaaNNddYY77 good luck! I hope you are able to restart your plant! You are a good plant mom to try! Thanks for watching! 🌱🌱🌱🌱😀
Thats a brilliant idea to re start your Rat's Tail cactus, and the segments all look nice and healthy and they will root really well for you, and it looks fantastic in the new pot, I have had to re start mine in the past too and it works so well, and the wonderful wind chimes sound really AMAZING, thanks so much for sharing Michele, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a fantastic Tuesday today XXXX
I really like to give tired plants a fresh start! Thanks so much for watching and letting me know you’ve done this too! 💕😀🌵🌵
Thanks pleasant prickles! Super informative!
Thanks so much for watching! The plant is still doing well! 💕🌵🌵🌵
enjoyed the video i have this Rat tail cactus also mine needs repotting.
Thank you! I’m going to try to repot a lot of my cacti this spring to give them a fresh soil. It’s not easy repotting cacti! Thanks for watching! 🌵🌵🌵🌵😃
Well thank you! I just repotted some rat tail earlier today for a plant swap and was curious what to tell them about watering because what I'm sending has no roots. They almost seem to have spewed themselves from my home pot as though looking for a new home. They are all green and healthy pieces, I just want them to stay that way. So I'll tell them not to water until they tug with resistance and then just water once before spring unless they look like they are drying and dying
They are wonderful plants! Have fun at the swap!🌵🌵🌵😃
Thank you 🙏 for your video :) very nice and informative. I’ve also got this type of cactus. 🌵
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching! 🌵🌵🌵😀
Cool plant
I think so too!!💕
I have one and should have another one in a package waiting for me. I noticed my existing one has a bunch of shoots starting.
That’s so exciting! It must be happy if it’s growing so well! 🌵🌵🌵😃
So you’re touching it with no worries! I haven’t touched mine yet! Lol!
It’s not too bad. It doesn’t have glochids that come out like some other cacti have! Thanks for watching! 🌵🌵🌵🌵😀
I don't have one yet but it is a wish list item.
I just love it! It’s so interesting! I hope you can find one! 🌵🌵🌵💕😀
Your rat’s tail cactus looks so much better than mine. 🤭 Mine got a beating last summer. By the way, if you want some cactus seeds, let me know. 😉
Thanks so much that’d be so nice. 🌵🌵🌵😀💕
Gm edagdwg God bless you thanks for sharing how to make new plants a fan linda j .peace
Thank you! It’s so much fun to propagate! 😊🌱🌱🌱
Have this plant but I think it’s dying. Not green but on the end of some. So what do I do
I eventually lost mine, it seemed to have a lot of bug issues. I’d check for bugs first because this type of plant has lots of nooks and crannies for them to hide in. If you find any try to spray from every angle with Neem oil. You could also change up its light situation to see if that makes a difference in its overall health. I really believe plant placement is the key to success with most plants. Sometimes plants appreciate the longer days of summer, too. I hope you have better luck with yours than I did with mine. 🌱🌱🌱🌱😃
Hi, do you have an update as to how this plant is doing?
I’m sorry to say, although the restart was successful last year, it got a case of mealy bugs this past summer and didn’t make it. The segments grow really close together and unfortunately it is a good hiding place for mealies. Thanks for watching. 🌵🌵🌵🙁
Как называется этот кактус? Апорокактус? Какой вид?
How often do you water?
I watered it about once a week in the summer months when it was outside, and then once a month during the winter. Thanks for watching! 🌵🌵🌵🌵😃
I'm in NJ. Anybody out there have a few pieces for sale? Would really be appreciated.
I have some available
This looks like the peanut cactus 🧐
Maybe they are related, but these segments grow pretty long. Or it might be one of those plants goes by more than one name? Thanks for watching! 🌵🌵🌵🌵🌵🌵🌵😃
That looks more like a Silvestrii peanut cactus mini, best propagation season is late fall
