      Ashley Aukes I actually used to have this guy in a macrame! For me personally one problem was the little spines would stick to the rope of the macrame. Personally if you’re looking for a hanging cari to put in one I love rhipsalis particularly the mistletoe cactus since they have no spines! I hope that helps thanks so much for watching 🥰🌵

    I bought one of these over the summer and hung it in a southern window. It seemed to love it until I watered it... ugh the needles started turning brown. I didn't think I watered it too much but took a look at the roots and they weren't there! It's Nov and I am waiting for my root hormone to arrive from amazon today! I'm hoping it will help it root even though it's in the dormant season. Great video!

    Wow thank you so much! I have a rat tail a friend gave me. It wasn’t very happy! I put it under an architect light. It’s metal with a long arm. It has good direct light. I put it on a timer. Well it is gorgeous now! So happy and has reproduced to be full & green! I haven’t transplanted it due to not knowing how am I going to do that!?????? Your example is perfect I’m on my way to getting that off my list!! Thank you!! 💜🙏🏻

      Was it brown and became green again?. I repotted mine and got the mix too dry (didn'tknow that was possiblebut put too much perlite). Turned it brown and hope I can green it back up by adding little more soil to the mix.

    Hi. Thanks for the great video. I’ve just got one of these beauties and will repot it into a fresh soil mix. When propagating, after you’ve cut and put them in the soil how long is it recommended to wait before watering please? Do they need time to callous over? Thanks, Emma

    • @LeafMeAlonePlants
      @LeafMeAlonePlants  3 года назад +2

      Hey Emma, so personally I like to let my cuttings callus for 1 or 2 days prior to putting in soil and then I just water like normal from there I hope that helps and I hope this plant is doing well for you!

    • @lauraringle
      @lauraringle Год назад

      Yes. Callous a cactus before planting. A plant cannot drink without roots. If it doesn't have roots you are putting water on a plant so it rots the plant. You might mist the top soil to encourage root growth. I've seen arguments for and against that, but no watering the plant until you tug an arm and it resists...that means its rooted. Plant 1" deep.

    I have a rattail cactus and its appendages, (for lack of a better word for the hangy downy parts) are very thin. Should I prune them back and if so how far. It's pretty long, 2.5 feet or so. Do I have to worry about the bottom parts of the cactus being bigger than some of the upper parts? It will be in much better light now. Thanks. Enjoyed your video.

    • @LeafMeAlonePlants
      @LeafMeAlonePlants  2 года назад

      Sorry for the late reply! Usually when the new growth of the cactus are thin it’s usually that it’s not getting enough light but it sounds like you were already on top of it! I hope this guy is doing well for you! 🌵🤩

    • @LeafMeAlonePlants

      Hey Laura welcome to the rat tail club! I would say they are moderate grower, really fast for cacti but a little slow compaired to other trailing plants!

    Thanks for the video! I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between this and a Peanut cactus. Do you know that one? I inherited a cactus from my friend and can't tell if it's a peanut or rat tail....and it's never bloomed, so I don't know.

    • @LeafMeAlonePlants
      @LeafMeAlonePlants  3 года назад +1

      Hey Pam! I dont have one myself but the peanut cactus looks slightly thicker and heartier than the rat tail! I cant say for sure but I would imagine these can probably handle a little more sun and drought than the rat tail (which in my opinion can be a little needier than most cacti) They look gorgeous though I hope iys going well for you

    • @LeafMeAlonePlants
      @LeafMeAlonePlants  3 года назад +1

      What a small world! I have mine in a standard cactus mix and it seems to do just fine with that. However with these being an epiphyte, you can get away with something pretty chunky, sometimes for them I like to add a little extra bark or pumice. hope that helps thanks for watching!

  • @ddyukon6369

    I’ve just got monkey tail cactus 4 stems and they all have a small root.
    Do you use hormone powder or just soil used for snake plants with worm
    Casting?

    • @LeafMeAlonePlants
      @LeafMeAlonePlants  3 года назад

      Thats so exciting thats my #1 wishlist plant right now! So personally I only use rooting hormone prior to any roots have formed I would be a little nervous about it being too much for new roots and opt for soil with worm castings (thats my favorite way to fertilize) but thats just me! I hope these develop well for you thanks so much for watching!
