The voice of Aretha Franklin. Dunno what it is that makes her different from other singers. Dunno whether its power or ability. Guess its the combination of those 2 and one other magical ingredient PURE TALENT! This woman was born and destined to be the QUEEN. ALL OF US HAIL THE TRUE QUEEN OF SOUL!!!!
Aretha Franklin my goodness this women could sing anything, anytime and as much as she wanted. Her voice was limitless as well. Before there was a Whitney, there was Aretha!
That Aretha can just SCREAM for me ALL DAY! If I get to heaven I am going to request a Mansion right next to hers, where the windows never close. I just wanna here her holla (ooohhhh) throughout eternity!
@@Sttephy30 yep smoking has a cumulative effect esp on women. Lucille Ball was a mezzo soprano and died a baritone because she smoked her voice box away. Whitney too!
Gordy loved Aretha..when Aretha visited his home in the mid 70's...she was suprised to see he had two big pictures on his wall..One of Diana Ross & another of Aretha.
Well let's just be thankful Atlantic got her because it's hard to imagine her records being any better on Motown. She sounds PHENOMENAL here. Her talent is mind-boggling. It's hard to believe someone could have been given such a gift. And we haven't even gotten to her piano playing or songwriting.
he LITERALLY could do it all, which is part of why this is so effortless to him... the songs he did were so vocally challenging and then he had all that grit an expression when he needed it... he sliced through standards like a hot knife through butter and pop like he could do it 10% awake... just the finest entertainer the world has ever known.
Yes, Aretha lived approx 1 mile from Hitsville, as did I. Aretha and virtually all of the Motown Stars used to hang out around 12th Street, Hastings St, W Grand Blvd and Linwood Ave. They also frequented and/or performed at The 20 Grand, Baker's Keyboard Lounge, and The Greystone Lounge.
Ray Charles put everything to this world we are living now even queen is singing his music also the most talented man in the Universe mr Sammy Davis jr
not really weird.Look at how talented the man is.Certainly one of the most talented performers EVER!!He had it all.All round entertainer. Dancing,Singing,Acting, his humor. Its amazing!! =)
That was cute some of these artist today should take notes on love performances you dot always need pyro and one hundred dancers just talent a mic n soul!
When I cruise UTUBE and sometime I have to put it in reverse; and found myself making a right turn down Heat160 Channel and pull into the Home of Legendary Entetainers to enjoy Aretha and Sammy doing a rare performance of SOUL. Thank you for THIS BRILLIANT and AMAZING performance down MEMORY LANE.
@VictorVargas3185 EXACTLY...he was extremely GIFTED and SUPER INTELLIGENT, WISE, and KNEW HIMSELF and who he really was. HE IS THE BEST..he left too early...liky my mom...THE BEST EVER...
@VictorVargas3185 What Sammy really had to do was adapt to all situations he encountered. During his time racism was at its all time high so whatever he did was only to survive. He always knew what he was (a black man) its just some people really didn't understand what he was going through. Because of racism, at times things were really rough for him but he wheathered the storm and in the end came out on top! Also, thanks to people like Frank Sinatra who stood by him and supported Sammy.
With all due RESPECT Marki, I know much about Aretha, so a correction is needed! Not only was she not pregnant when this aired in 68, her third Son Teddy was born a few years earlier. Her fourth and final Son Kecalf was born in 70 the same year as me!
Diana Ross was going with Smokey Robinson when she was a teenager. She said he was her 1st Love. He hooked her up with Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson, making them initially, the Primettes.
I can't believe that nine people (as of 8th June 2012) dislike this. It's just amazing. Thanks to youtube we can watch such clips - that are probably rotting away in archives somewhere. No doubt someone will try to profiteer from history though and, when I try to watch this in the future, the clip will be deleted. Copyright was designed to benefit companies in the short term (10 years) so they can make money on what they initially produce. Long-term copyright is detrimental to progression.
Aretha was officially crowned the queen of soul in 1968 in Chicago by a radio DJ on stage during a performance with a real crown..The rest of them that are claiming a title were never officially crowned. The titles people try to claim are simply marketing tools!!..Look at Mary J,Puffy gave her that title for marketing and to try to put her on Aretha's level...Now a days every one wants to be put on top and have a title but do not have the talent!!
@sherry21555 Glad to hear her surgery was a success! I love this video. They had so much fun onstage together. At 24 years old, really watching everyone from the 90's on up, it's refreshing to watch these older clips. Man, I can relate to my grandparents, and parents when they say "you young poeple don't know what talent is" lol Granted, we have Mariah, Whitney, Celine, Christina, and Beyonce, you're really missing out if you don't get familiar with young Aretha. Incomperable.
Motown was in existence when Aretha came along. Aretha recorded with JVB/Battle Records because this is where her father recorded his sermons & gospel vocal records. Motown and RCA offered her a contract, but she elected to sign with Columbia Records and then later, Atlantic Records. Aretha wanted her own sound, and Atlantic Records allowed her to establish her own music. Motown was a "controling" label. You had to sing what they wanted you to sing. Aretha was not to be stifled nor controled

When rated as the greatest female singer of ALL TIME, Aretha's sound was regarded as being "the voice of God"! TRULY, the queen of soul!
Aretha Franklin my goodness this women could sing anything, anytime and as much as she wanted. Her voice was limitless as well. Before there was a Whitney, there was Aretha!
I wish I was born in 1948 so I could see that properly in 1968...
I just got an electric shock down my arms when Aretha sang those first notes: OH MY GOD! That voice- at it's best!!!! :)!!!!
and Aretha is the shiznit, pregnant and still performing at a high level like that..u can't beat it!
That Aretha can just SCREAM for me ALL DAY! If I get to heaven I am going to request a Mansion right next to hers, where the windows never close. I just wanna here her holla (ooohhhh) throughout eternity!
She sound hella good. Amazing. Soulful tonal quality and clarity that's out of this world. Her 60's and 70's voice was the best
Before smoking
@@wcwn3632 She started smoking at 14 year old.
@@Sttephy30 yep smoking has a cumulative effect esp on women. Lucille Ball was a mezzo soprano and died a baritone because she smoked her voice box away. Whitney too!
@@wcwn3632 Oh my. But Miss Franklin recaptured her upper belts back during the late 90's. She was on stage belting out notes w/ a prime-Celine Dion.
@@Sttephy30 yes yes. Her voice returned after she quit smoking. Damn I wish I would’ve been able to see her live :(.

This just gave my heart so much joy. Soul sister Aretha was unmatched in her prime.

A few more words for our Sammy there...
Funkadelic, funkalicious, funk-amazing!
What a groove, I never get tired of this!!!!!
This was when her voice was the best. Loud effortless energy...80s and 90s it was half of this.Nothing like being young.
The only sad part about this video is I can only like this once 😞
I never understood why she didn't have a lot hits with them b/c I liked her jazzy sound granted her soul sound is crazy jazz wasn't bad for her.
Here in 2024! That dip at the end, whoa ❤

Aw...I was wondering if her and Sammy ever sang together. That's so kewl.
@VictorVargas3185 exactly sammy was down with black people and supported black people
That is fantastic. Why can't we incorperate that into our modern day electronic crap?
