    Aretha has always shown so much respect to Diana Ross and Diana to Aretha. It really shows the true character of both of these women. They both obviously understand each other better than most people do. Two legends that made a difference in their own way.

    @rickw1100 The Supremes, Diana Ross, and most of Motown was very purposefully focused on making African-American music accessible to mainstream (white) audiences.
    Columbia attempted to do something similar with Aretha but it wasn't as successful.
    Motown had tried with the Marvelettes, and had some success with it, but made a hard core effort with the Supremes. After the success of "The Girls",the doorways to Supper Clubs, Las Vegas, etc opened for the entire company.
    The Supremes helped remove an unfounded fear that was has of Black artists.
    They all had their roles to play. For that, I have always been grateful to Aretha, Smokey, The Supremes, Diana, the Temptations, Tina Turner, Sam Cooke, etc. for they broadened the viewpoint on African American people through music.
    i never felt any of them were more valuable than any others.

    To Rog - I ENJOYED YOUR PIECE, BUT I MUST MAKE ONE CORRECTION. ARETHA RECEIVED THE TITLE AFTER SHE LET COLUMBIA. SHE WAS CROWNED QUEEN BY PERVIS SPANN (THE BLUESMAN), A DJ IN CHICAGO AT THE REGAL THEATRE IN 1968. SHE RELEASED "I NEVER LOVED A MAN" AND "DO RIGHT WOMAN, DO RIGHT MAN" IN 1967 ON THE ATLANTIC LABEL WITH JERRY WEXLER.

    • @MPardo-cx6jj
      @MPardo-cx6jj 3 месяца назад

      Sorry. That's not true. Aretha received the "Queen of Soul" title during her Columbia years! At the time, some were calling her "Queen of the Blues." Aretha did not want to accept the title because Aretha felt that was Dinah Washington's title. I'm pretty sure Aretha also felt she couldn't accept the title because Dinah Washington was a very close friend of the Franklin family for many years!

    There is no comparison between The Queen Of Soul & The Boss. Both are LEGENDARY - ACCOMPLISHED - BEAUTIFUL - BLACK WOMEN-

I never said Diana Ross wasn't b/c I personally don't take a liking to her to much but that's fine to eaches own. When talk of Inspiration there is a reason why Aretha Franklin Amazing Grace album is one the top selling gospel albums ever & that's a fact look it up if you need to. I prefer to hear Miss Ross sing this one, but the Queen holds her on with pretty much whatever she sings, especially in those days, but this one truly belongs to Lady Supreme.

    You have no idea of what you speak. Not only did I live through this era of music, but I'm still here to voice it's truth-
    Your calling her a Vulture. But your 1 person against MILLIONS whom adore Ms Aretha Franklin "Queen Of Soul" for well over 50 years.
    So your non cohesive thoughts take no shape..

      Sorry, darling/whatever. Aretha was given the name, "Queen of Soul before she began recording for Atlantic, her heyday music. Diann and The Supremes made their way into good music as well as things they shouldn't have tried. Aretha already had Gospel under her wing, learned singing Jazz, Blues and Standards under Columbia and made her personal voice very well know at Atlantic where she didn't just make REAL SOUL music at part of the forefront, she brought along self liberation and taking classics from everyone and making them hers. Her spotlight on "The Blues Brothers" was before she got another break in the business. Sure, Ms. Ross had a great steam of hits, mostly written and produced by everyone till she reached RCA but ReRe was an instrumental part of most, if not all of her early arrangements. She also kept making records and touring after Diana pretty much disappeared, I guess to raise more children since her career wasn't saying much. Now, talk about fools...

    Not true Aretha was one of the voices for the civil rights movement so how did Diana do more? Nevertheless why does it matter they're both talented in their own right. Far as the # 1 hits goes anytime white ppl follow you believe me you will have those hits. Aretha has a lot of white followers to but way more blacks than Diana most blacks don't care for her. Again both are great in their own right the end.

      Besides, Aretha establish early on that she wouldn't sing before a segregated audience, and she didnt, unlike the rest. But Aretha never signed with Motown. Diana Ross contrubute nothing to the civil rights movement.

    In reference to the comment about Ross and her lack of politics:Didnt she and the other 2 SUPREMES walk in the civil rights march along side of Martin Luther King in the 60's?And didnt she perform for the Clintons? and just because she isnt running for a seat, doesnt mean she has no political background.
