I read your comment just as the beach assault was starting, and thought, nah, Top Gear has done better segments than this. By the end of the assault though I was still somehow giggling like a little child at the sheer ridiculousness of it, and I've seen it well over ten times by now...
I don't know man, I find it hard to imagine that it drove all the way to the shore under its own steam. There's no way they had only a single Fiesta to work with when shooting this film.
The air intake on the Fiesta 1.6 is very, very high, just below the hood so it's possible, especially if they stuck a motorcycle sock-style oiled air filter on it to keep water out of the snorkel.
@@solracer66 It also has a scoop which scoops air from the front bumper in to the intake, so that would have functioned as a water scoop here, not ideal, so they probably moved the intake elsewhere for the bit. Or the regular fiesta has a different intake from the fiesta st which is located in a different place, kinda doubt it though

Sure but let's see how that saltwater treated any exposed metal after a month. Corrosion city I bet. Very dishonest of Ford to advertise this as suitable for long military campaigns requiring multiple amphibious assaults.
To add some context since BBC clips always miss the intro.... A irritated viewer "Mr Needum" sent Top Gear a letter of complaint about how the show only features expensive unafforable exotic cars, and that it should feature cars everyone can buy.... Clarkson took the complaint personally, and responded with this... 😂😂

I know its slightly different but I got a new Abarth 500 from Arnold Clark in 2015, paid £12.5k for it. Now they are over £20k new. Shocking increase in price, totally unjustified.
I have had my Fiesta now for 8 years ago used for a measly $3800 with only oil changes, brakes and tires necessary. It currently has 186k on the 1.6 manual and I still get 40 mpg. It is THE BEST car I have ever owned hands down in the 3 plus decades of car ownership.
Bro! Shout out to the person or people that had clear all the red tape in order to get this segment shot and shout out to the person or people that had to resurface that mall floor the day after.
I did. I had a low mileage 12 plate for two years and it ran like a dream up until the second hand water pump started sending the coolant into the oil, leaving me with two blown head gaskets and a hefty repair bill.
To be honest, this review started my love for the Ford Fiesta. Had one from 2016 to 2023, it was the facelifted model with that Aston-like trapezoidal grille with a unique Southeast Asian spec 1.5L engine and 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Excellent handling and ergonomy (higher trims got sports seats with thicker padding) and also decent climate control; however, the dual clutch transmission isn't the toughest tool on the shed.
@@JobiWan144 During my ownership years, it already had its transmission control module replaced once. In Indonesian money, it costed quite a fortune, equal to an entry level scooter. It is the DCT that scare people away from used Fiestas. A friend of mine also owned one, and he went the extra mile by purchasing a replacement DCT as a preventive measure.
@@maitele Ah yes, I remember the old Demio/Mazda2. Lovely little thing, I remember riding shotgun on it. Very similar to Fiesta in terms of seating positions, and IIRC it weighs considerably less than a Fiesta too. Indonesian spec Mazda2 came with a 1.5L engine and a choice of 5-speed manual or 4-speed auto; the auto is shared with ones that are used in lower-trimmed Fiesta with 1.4 liter engine but used a different ATF than the Ford. It sold pretty well in Indonesia, although not as popular as the Yaris (which 1NZ-FE is basically bulletproof) and Jazz/Fit (which is both more spacious and easier to modify). I remember exactly that the car originally came with 16 inch wheels shod in 45-profile tires, which is really thin for Indonesia's mostly bumpy roads, and people begin to swap them for slightly thicker 50-profile tires when they have the time.
@@TwentyNinerR interesting - my US spec MAZDA2 came with 15" steelies on 55-profile tires. Not really sure why Indonesia wouldn't get that instead. Mine is the 5 speed. The one gripe I had with that transmission was that the stock shift knob was genuinely painful to use - something about its shape just did not work with me. I swapped it for a ball from Sickspeed and now it's very nice.
This segment inspired me to buy a new lime green Fiesta SES in 2010 and it was a great car. It was later replaced by a blue Fiesta ST but I have to admit that I still have a thing for the lime green.
I can happily add that: Is it fun on gravel? Yes. Very. Will it keep up with a Subaru Impreza through a gravel slalom (not being driven by The Stig or anything, just some guy)? Yes.
