In his book, he writes that the CCX terrified everyone in the beginning, it was far wilder and more unstable than anything else - the body actually made huge lift and it slid loose with all that huge power every moment from the get go. In his own words, Clarkson was unable say anything except that the cornering was "something else" and only waiting for when it would crash, not if. The metaphors are amusing. The brakes were like "slow dancing with a rattlesnake" and nearly failed on one lap. The gearbox was like "threading a needle with the dexterity of a brain surgeon" to avoid hitting the wrong gear, and changing as fast as "a hummingbird on acid". Every time he went down the first corner he thought he would never make it out intact, they moved the camera twice as far back for safety. The crash happened when the power steering failed and went "from feather light to wrestling with a gorilla, with equally dire consequences if I lost", before the wheels slid and suddenly regained grip on opposite lock. The carbon fibre was strong though, just dented a bit, and the car ate a tire rather amusingly.
Then Koenigsegg fixed the suspension set up, the brakes and the steering and added the wing, which made it much better, the car worked flawlessly, but it was still scary as hell and kept him sweating profusely nevertheless. They first thought they had beaten the Zonda, only to realize they were 0.1 s slower, and so it needed one more lap, and then they did, after a tense CVK finally figured out the suspension needed to be lowered a bit more. His last words describing the car were "The CCX tended to focus the mind, a bit like dancing the tango with a hammerhead shark". Backstage, Clarkson was totally understanding and surprised that the Stig held on to it for that long.
While Koenigsegg's are now legendary for stability, driveability and can corner better than the hypercar competition, they are still very scary raging Norse monsters, except maybe the refined luxurious Regera (until one mashes the throttle). The Bugatti Chiron feels like a limo on rockets by comparison.
And now they are building the Gemera. A... 4 seat family car.... with 2300bhp.

@@sweetdude1298the newly announced production version of the gemera now has 2 diffrent engine options, a 3 cylinder with an 800hp dark matter e motor producing 1400hp, and a Hot V8 with the dark matter e motor producing in combination 2300hp and around 2700 nm of torque, the hv8 version will cost 400k more that the 3 cylinder. This information was all announced by Koenigsegg.

The great thing about the CCX is that even after nearly 8 years, the styling and power still hold up to the supercars of today. It was my dream car then and i wouldn't trade it for anything else today.

I remember watching this episode when I was around 5 or 6 when I was home sick from school. I was at the part where Jeremy is talking about the car's 800+ Horsepower and hearing the sound of that engine and the cool editing is what got me into supercars. Up to that point, I was only interested in Muscle Cars. The episode where Jeremy drives the Gtr R35 when it was new in Japan got me into JDM too.
Top gear is a big reason why a lot of us are into cars

After this test Koenigsegg got really angry with ... himself!!!!, he made several modifications to the car and asked Top Gear to try again the car. Amazing person always loocking for best perfomance in his cars. Can't imagine anyother other doing that

I remember when I first found out about koenigsegg. The CCX had me in shock and awe because it was such a different car and I have wanted one since. I loved how I knew about them before they became huge. I also can remember the fact at the time I knew of a car that was faster then Bugatti and no one believed me. But look where they are now demolishing speed records.
They just need to add some big track records and they are good

I feel like this car had the single biggest impact of any car on top gear, nothing has ever been so savage. You can barely hear Jeremy shouting over the engine.

The CCX might be my favorite Koenigsegg; It's the last truly insane car they've ever made, and the last manual Koenigsegg. These days their cars are lot faster than a CCX but that's worth nothing compared to the adrenaline rush and giggles that a CCX can apparently give you.
Edit: The new CC850 has been announced, it's got a gated manual shifter and analog dials, so never mind what I said before.
And the bone shattering and back breaking excitement also

@@william_SMMA I don't know about you, but I'm always pushing my car to the limits when I get the chance, And I mean the absolute limits. I'd take roundabouts at 75kph(46mph) in my little economy car, the front end loses all grip and I have to control it with the throttle otherwise I'd hit the highway barriers at that speed, you feel death staring you in the eyes, but when you make out alive you get the biggest extacy ever, it's like you fought a lion with your bare hands and lived. That's the point of having a fast car in my view.

Lots of people tend to think that good quality videos did not exist back then.
On youtube they didn't.
+911gpd utube only supported 4:3 back then and when they had 16:9 TV ey upscaled every video that had black borders on top and bottom so the quality became worse than it was
In the thumbnail it looks like the CCX is just having a snack.
Ben Collins claims they were having problems with the brakes and the power steering seizing causing the crash. Seeing this again it does appear the front wheels are doing something unusual when he loses control and tries to regain it.

I know this video is old, but seriously, were they trying to make it look a decade older than it was? I was watching streaming video in the late 90s with higher resolution than this.

I fell in love with this tyre eating beast that day. Still not hit my paws on one as I said I would. Though that is in the post, so to speak. This is the purest and best looking of any Koenigsegg to my eyeball.
I love the fact that they did the test with a conventional manual transmission; one of the reasons I really love this car. I know that DCT is quicker, but still; you can easily tell the difference between real car guys and the posers with a conventional manual/it's more fun/less appealing to car thieves.
A decade later and that design is still fresh

Nice that it's got a proper gearbox. Same with Carrera GT which also has knife's edge handling yet is faster around the TGTT, despite giving 200+ hp to the CCX. Would kill to drive either someday.

Yes, why do they bother with the tyres in all that open space? Just to make it look good? They seem to be in random locations.
@@CrowPalthe tires do help shed a tonne of speed really quickly in the more dangerous sideways crashes where brakes are useless. In those cases it is critical to drop velocity before a vehicle starts to roll over sideways. The small front profile of the CCX combined with long ratio meant it had little chance of flipping end over end and the tyre wall didn't do much here.

The ccx is an absolute piece of shit as shown in its design flaws (not enough down force to balance the force) leading to Stigs crash. CCX-R edition is pretty good
2008: We should have cars that take off like space shuttles. 2022: We should have cars you can't drive and that stop themselves through bluetooth.
Koenigsegg ccx in my opinion is exactly what a supercar should be like, insanely fast, terrifying and extremely loud!
I remember watching this clip like 5 times a week in middle school when it first came out in the early 2000s. Still no one to this date in the world makes cars like Koenigsegg. Absolute perfection!!
Cars that are actively trying to kill you are the most fun! and this car is so fast that the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death. I LOVE IT and salute koeniggseg for making such an insane car.
