- Lets talk pipe jack stands more commonly referred to as just jack stands. I’m comparing the two brands I use Sumner Jack Stands and B&B Pipe Jack Stands. Why do I prefer one over the other? Which folding jack stands do I use for my truck vs. the shop? Etc. Lets talk about it!

I use to work at sumner here in Houston. They build them here. They weld them, paint them and pack them all in the same shop.
I'm no pipe welder but I bought a set of 4 of the Sumners and I use the heck out of them in the maintenance field. Well worth the investment.
Thanks Austin for the good information about the jack stands. You can never have to many until you can no longer use them. Thanks for sharing with us. Fred. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👋👋
I use the sumner jacks daily, I like that they don’t take up a lot of real estate on my bed and the simplicity of them.
Awesome video! I had twenty-five stationary stands and a half dozen fold-ups. I always preferred the stationary stands when I worked on 'very critical' codes. Nothing worse than having to cut the tack because of High/Low due to jack wobble. Just my preference.
Thanks for another great video!
In Canada if you can't pin your stands they won't allow them on some job sites . (not Safe ) they are usually pined about every 6 inch and are screw jacked from there . Up here the go to are GRB engineered stands
I don’t know if there is anyone in the US that makes stands like we have here in Alberta, I can’t “stand” the sumner style pipe stands they are horrible lol I hate the stupid washer I’ve been bit in the hand a few times and it just makes you forget to tighten the set screw. They are also less stable than what we have available up here. I guess we are spoiled with the products we have. Regarding the pin system; it’s super annoying. I grew up using the set screw, but hey I guess we gotta protect people from Darwin now.
Javelins are decent but I use grb . I can't say Ive heard them called jack stands I always call them pipe stands
I have 4 of the sumner jack stands in my garage. I have gotten to old to crawl around on my knees for my welding projects. I like them because they can be folded up. When not in use.
Austin, you're over here asking about coffee and I must admit, temperature don't matter. If I feel I need some, I get it. Black Rifle Coffee Company all the way.
Never have coffee in my life. I love to see you make some jack stands, with prints…
Thanks for the jack stand tip! Great video 👍🏽
Yes I drink coffee in the morning. One travel mug full and I'm good for the day. I didn't start till I was 40 yrs old.
Those are some really nice stands Austin. I'm sure the welders will get some good use from them.
I always thought welders made their own.
Thanks 👍👍👍👍👍
Coffee from dawn till bedtime! Literally, I cannot sleep without a cup in my gut before bed.
Coffee every day, anytime of day 👌👌
Have used both, like Sumner folders best, also have several Sumner fixed base heavy duty stands in standard height and low profile.
Tea, best drink of the day, all day!
Jack stands, l don't have any but l am now plotting on making some!
I just picked up 2 B&B's for doin fence work they really seem to help so far
I need to get some of these
i took a file to the washer on the b&b stands works good now👍
2 cups of coffee every morning here in the heat of Southern Texas
I have used both, I personally own the Sumner but have no preference! We use "Big V" Jackson's for 16 and 24". And I drink coffee in the winter. And BANG in the summer!
I'm around the same age as you Austin and pretty hard headed but you taught me alot
Austin is type type of person that can teach some one who knows every thing something...
Another great video!!
Coffe every day for me! I use the sumner jacks. You better go hydrate with some more coffee, you are sweating through your shirt. Gotta love the Texas and Oklahoma heat. Work hard and be safe.
I carried 10 red B&B jacks for years. There is a big differance in the slop between the two when folded out trying to get stuff lined up.
I like this informative videos but I am ready to watch something being built!
I'm 55 and I've never had a cup of coffee.
Maybe I should try someday LOL
Try the different ingredients too, cream and sugar, cream only, sugar only, and of course black. Maybe one will suit your taste.
If you try it, whatever you do, don't start with Starbucks!! That stuff tastes like mule p*ss. You'll never try real coffee again. (No, I've never drank mule p*ss, but that's what it must taste like,,,LOL)
@@shortfuse43 👍👍
Same here at 60. Ice Tea is my drink though. Even in the winter.
@@LemonySnicket-EUC 👍
Sir I have a question I've been asked if I can repair an mild steel gate what would you recommend stick or mig I've got an gasless mig machine I did not want to give quote until I've got an 2nd oppion what would you recommend?
A better jackstand tip with regards to the stuck washer is to just twist the tube. A quarter turn will free up that washer every time. You should have mentioned something about how they compare with keeping the v-head from falling out when carrying them. You know the hole drilled in the tube as opposed to Ridgid's terrible way of doing it.
Coffee only in the winter unless I’m really dragging in the morning
I drink coffee year around also Austin. Lol. Some folks don’t understand.
Ain't nothin like a hot cup of coffee every hour of the day summer or winter 👍
Ice coffee in the summer and hot in the winter!
Have you tried the sawyer folders? Curious to see how they would compare.
I’ve used both and in my opinion the bnb is built better, they may be rated the same but the bomb just feels more built, also they are a bit cheaper at me weld supply so that’s nice
Coffee is a must in my life it’s a year around essential or food group. A doctor one time ask me how many cups a day did I drink I looked at him and told him I did measure coffee by the cups but by the pots he didn’t pursue this line of questions. I was around seventy years of age. Than I told him I drank coffee with chicory in it I’m not sure but I think he almost passed out.
Coffee is good in any type of temp during the day 🤣💯
I was looking for something to give my flagpole that I am using a little more vertical height permanently. I use the flagpole as an antenna pole and I am trying to see if I can get even better reception. It's close now to where I can be satisfied with it, but channels go in and out more than I'd like(some very much).
One thing about my current setup is--I lean my pole against the house's roof so that I can turn it as needed(locking it so that it is sturdy in place at the bottom*). I have seen these stands hold pipes horizontally and hold parts of vehicles, but would these hold a medium thickness-wide thickness pipe vertically and so that the pipe will not rock with the wind/weather?
*At the bottom/base of the pole, I use an old, very heavy duty steel or iron barbecue grill that is way too heavy to lift and very hard to manuever really. That sucker is heavy! Then, I use the grill's heavy lid to secure the pole to the house. In addition, I lean supports inside the frame against the pole and frame so that with those supports and the lid it will not rock in any direction.
Can u do a video on winter jacks?
Coffee is life, all year long
Darn tootn coffee any time anywhere.✌
I have sumner and Ridged stands and the sumner are hands down better. Oh and I drink coffee all day because it is important to stay hydrated!
Ice cold water for me in the mornings! Also, been wanting to get me some set of jack stands, would you recommend 4 or 6?
A min of 4 for sure but 6 is even handier.
4 for work, 1 for your table and one for an umbrella!
@Ruben Rios, from an old retired pipe welder, the more the better!
I gotta have coffee everyday hot in the am and in the heat of the day I'll just let my coffee cool down b4 I drink it
There’s no comparison, sumner for the win! I drink coffee every now and then but for sure everyday in winter
Where can I buy this pipe jack stands
I drink coffee all day. black and legit. One protein scoop per 4 cups of water. / Favorite is 8 O'Clock Original.
Lost your number I had some suggestions for your handrail project that may help you. Thanks for the videos
Sure is bud I’m working at the port of catoosa
Coffee every day.
What part of Oklahoma you in? I need a fence built and I’m out in Mustang.
We are about an hour or so from there. Shoot me an email with some details or what you have in mind. Thanks!

Yes sir coffee it drank year round…I save a litl for the end of the work day to drive home in New England traffic.. js
How much are these stands worth?
Sumner by the way.
As far as coffee goes, I drink it all day, every day. The temp of the environment doesn't matter, neither does the temp of the coffee. I can drink it hot out of the thermos, or cold after it sat on the truck hood
Just from reading the comments I'm not sure if this video was about coffee or pipe stands? 😆
I drink sweet tea all dagumn day 🤣
Coffee always…
有详细制作图纸吗?
2-3 cups of coffee everyday no matter what the temperature.
Coffee black 24/7
Always drink coffee no matter what 😂
How come your not pipelining any more?
Coffee in the morning only water all day
Price?
They are both right around $100 bucks
Austin, in the thumbnail in your lineup of videos, you are standing one foot each on two jack stands....how in the world did you get up there. Hope you didn't fall off!!
Can you make these?
I prefer the Sumner stands, mostly because of the build quality. And in response to all of the Canucks commenting...I worked a job in BC, and had to buy a set of those goofy ass heavy stands you boys use to work on the ROW. They are sturdy, but you have to employ a shaved gorilla or have a bomb truck to move your stands around. And those pins are pointless. I was incredibly happy to not return to that boggy mess of a ROW with the goofy rules.
Damn skippy
Coffee in the morning ?
More like:
Caffeine
Nicotine
Gasoline
(Jerry reed)
1 caffeine
2 niccotene
3 benzadrene
Drink coffee year-round also boss man thinks I'm loony
no coffee only mt dew either one will give you kidney stones depends how much you like acute back pain
Water drinker? People drown in that stuff
id have to say both are junk !! look up to canada for real stands (javelin, grb, dsp all build stands that fold up and use better threads for the tops)
Work must be slow
Just The opposite… We are so covered up with work we don’t have time to edit the project videos lol.
@@arosswelding that's good!
You're in such a hurry to get to market first you forgot to paint your product.
