My husband always preferred stick welding. He never could get comfortable with the wire feed welder‘s even though I bought him an awesome as a gift but he just couldn’t get comfortable with it. Always went back to stick welding. Shorten up the wheelbase on our trucks. He go next-door and roll the tank. I go down and get the inSan in Orange County California because septic trucks and toilet trucks have vacuum under it so they wouldn’t second one thing I worried about he was always getting down in the tank and he didn’t wear a respirator. He was 29 years older than me, but he did live to be a week for being 85 years old so even all the crazy stuff he did with his welding hand popping hazmat just saying he had a good life. And I miss him a lot. and I watch your wife with you on the pallet. No, he put me on the pallet to go paint something and I’m afraid of heights and when you get to the top, there is nothing to hold onto and then was with his homemade forklift. I love that guy and we did have a good life together. And when he got what he was having trouble, he could walk me through how to fix something tell me how to do it and I wish I could remember half the things he taught me for. What is 74 I don’t know, but I really do it.
I will have to remember that installation. I like the idea of pinning those post in like that where you can lift the entire gate off and do a repair if need be.

Hello Cameron. That’s cool you’re learning how to weld. Thanks for the kind words. let me know if you need help with anything. I might make you a video.
What a great hinge system this is for handling cattle most particularly horses who tend to be really touchy entering and when contained within stock yard gates and holding chutes, no nasty scalping gate hinge knuckles protruding. You sir are setting the new gold standard for stockyards design courtesy of USA initiative and good old know how that hasnt been destroyed by the HR Secret police, department. Your No 1 trade assistant anticipates your every move, he is a keeper.
I Love watching true Professional’s at work ❤. When you’re good you’re good 👍. The way you think things out reminds me of my own thought process. It’s a beautiful gate. Blessings, Carlos ✝️🙏❤️😊🙏
Really like your channel. Even after years of being a welder/fitter, I constantly crave welding information. Only just found you on RUclips a few weeks ago but I have to say you have a way with teaching. I always visit your channel to learn something new. From one welder to another, thanks man. We need more folks like you teaching the young bloods the ropes.
Enjoy the videos you put up. Id recommend a tape measure clip that goes on your belt so it doesn’t mess up your pockets. I use it when i pipe fit. It’s made by holster. Seeing your weld videos really up my weld game.
I like how the band was playing in the background are used to be on band in. This was something I like before going into this trade that was like my back up plan since I used to be passionate back in high school
I have just the setting for a gate like this, The last two big wooden gates I put there got ripped out by some one with a 4x4 so a nice heavy pole like that and an integrated hinge should do the trick nicely...you never know they might rip their back axle off if they try it again. Thanks for sharing
Oh hell yeah, I need a couple gates. Love the 180-swing and hinge integration. I may start smaller though, one-lane traffic and all. Gotta scare up some old rusty pipes. Thanks for the ideas. I see you got the arc-shot camera setup working. Good stuff.
Add an integrated fold up or retractable foot that when the gate is closed the foot drops down, locks into place and would allow 10 people to climb on the gate without damaging the gate. Thoughts?
If Timothy Olyphant and Billy Bob Thorton had a child... it's you! With that said.. Dude, I'm a subscribed and checking out all your content.. Good info, well presented. Thanks and keep it up. Great info!
11:58 #1 NO, NO! DON'T FORGET YOUR SAFETY GLASSES!!! A career welder knows that. LOL But I do like this for a gate. I retired from welding and am building my dream farm. Gates included...
did u put grease zerks in? we have been building corrals and the zerk is a must looks great making my boys watch your stuff so they can learn before they do thanks
You could've easily made the pin and cap one piece but the extra step will allow the gate to still move if the gate barrel ever seized to the pin. Well worth it and super clean looking.
Do you think it would hold up had you not done the off set? And welded the gate on the roadside of the hinge post? That way the gate would've been on the outside of the post, and it would swing open to end up on the inside of the post. ???
Beautiful gate. Nice welding. Hinge style is genius. All the pipes are round, then you use a piece of square for a cross brace. Why did you do that ? I can't finger it out. My thoughts are... isn't that a mismatch ?
Looks great to me and pretty good ideal. Its nice to watch in learn other trades. I did welding in high school and liked it, i just bought me a stick welder and would like to get into business how you are. Im on my way but still need to learn more. Like i said i like learning all trades i do hvac and handy man stuff. Im good with my hands. Anyways mice work keep the videos coming
Just curious, do you ever use a vibratory plate on a skip loader to drive posts in? I lived in NE Nevada, and we would get -20 degrees in the winter. Post that were concreted in tended to heave eventually, but the posts that were driven with the the plate, never budged. We also used drill pipe and would sink the posts 4 ft. deep. Really nice build on the gate and hinges!
What I use is a holesaw drill in the middle of the pipe what ever pipe u using go one sizes bigger on holesaw you might like how I do my stainless are monel pipe
I think the only thing I would have done differently was to drill and tap a hole in the hinge with a zerk fittng - so that it could be greased. But that is a great design!!!
Nice looking project, I understand omitting the grease fittings, lazy empty headed people rarely service them with lube. They end up rusting closed and won't allow grease to pass through. Your cap will prevent water entry that could promote rust. I likely would've smeared a heap of marine grade grease on the internals of the hinge before putting it together, but I think you have a very well made lifetime gate here. As long as some drunk don't slam their vehicle into it. It may be a good idea to fasten a few reflectors along the span of the top cord just in case. Now go do this on a much larger scale along our southern border please! And don't forget to electrify it before you leave.
@TaylorWelding let's start an alligator farm and lease the gators out to the border states. No feed cost. They feed themselves. Environmentally friendly and self-sustaining.
@@TaylorWelding ok, Cool... I wanted to build a 24 foot swing gate, but everybody says not to do it. But that type of hinge would be the best style for something like that.
That's a great hinge on that gate but why did you scab that square tubing in at the end It looked like you justPasted in there ran out of material or somethingI just wondering about that Just made it look funny kind of out of place
Chris, Looks great. The machinic in me is wondering why they weren't drilled and tapped for grease fittings.
I’ve never had one seize or fail.
I have put grease fittings on them before that never got used.
@@TaylorWeldingeventually could get sweaky grease the hell out of it with high temp😊
Beautiful gate...great job
I thought the same thing. Long gate = lots of leverage on that when it starts binding, and then the pipe starts to get egg shaped. Grease at minimum.
Outstanding. Quarter bubble magic trick was 👍😎

I like the hing system, very slick.👍👍
That was an awesome idea. It takes a true fabricator to come up with an out of the box idea that is clean and efficient. spectacular work.

Throw some grease fittings in there

I'm wondering if the angled bracing will keep those long gates from sagging.
Post holes seem shallow to me, too. My honest opinion.
Nice that thing isn't going to be bent easily, and since it's a real center, it's not a bracket that could get knocked around
I think the only thing I would have done differently was to drill and tap a hole in the hinge with a zerk fittng - so that it could be greased. But that is a great design!!!

Hey, when you open the gates they seem you'll be hitting the first two parking right side and left.
Like the concept. Did you concrete those posts in the ground?
1:02 yes
I was wondering who built those. They look good.
Thank you
Theres no doubt, people, especially kids will ride those gates, time will tell if it puts and stress on it and causes dragging/binding on the Hinges.
Curious his process for setting the posts in the ground with concrete.
