Before you do an alignment, put strut tower bushings, In sway bar bushings in that should get rid of your noise
@2:00 - Easy Peasy - put a mirror in front of the lift and you can easily center the car by your lonesome.
With this series of the older Tesla, we think many have enjoyed a pleasant lesson... keep up the good work...
My fav series of vids at the moment
Did some work on my Toyota the other day it feels good to know that you did the work yourself and saved yourself some 💰👍
Doesn’t matter to me if it’s a Tesla or gasoline vehicle I just like watching the wrenching the cars! I also like the walk arounds the auction yards to see the vehicles but prefer working on cars
Rubber bushings for that sway bar would have been a nice and assuring refresh
I had a broken brake caliper spring on that passenger side wheel. I also had went through a couple of sway bar links. I had chased that spring noise for awhile! Tesla took a mini sledge to the wheel and eventually found the spring. $25 later, including labor - it was fixed.
Run a string with a tennis ball from the ceiling centered in the lift to help center your car on the lift.
When the ball hits the hood emblem, you’re there. 🎾
Great idea, I thought put a mirror to facing wall so you can see where you steer to. hehe
Who's going to stand in front of the car to help him align the ball and emblem? 🤔
Seems like a solution with the end result being the same problem.
@@matthewc3120you do it after you're on the hoist correctly. It's for the next used time..
I know this episode isn't about the Cadillac I'm still amazed at the fuel efficiency and I can't stop thinking about it while watching this episode. I know it's the trolls in my head that won't go away. Love this show
Sounded kind of like a front strut noise. Good video Randy.
Hi ! Yes , this could be also possibility ( and quite a bit more costly than tie rod end ) = after all = still entire suspension job will save tons of money , compare to Tesla garage quote .
Hi Randy , It might be a bit of rattle , coming from lower ball joint , unless issue with bushing on one of arms . I'm guessing , that lower ball joint is part of a tie rod end on this vehicle !?! It would be the best to replace both sides tie rod ends , that should solve remaining rattle in front . Unless there also might be worn ball joint/bushing on upper arm . If the rattle now is very minimal = You're most likely very close to sorted out and it won't be difficult . Regards ! Ps : I've just spotted on 6:15 min. of video , that there is also lower arm , so it might be bushing on that one as well .
RANDY THE 10.9 IS THE PITCH OF THE METRIC THREAD - NOT THE HARDNESS !
You get a tpms error as the 1st gen 2012-2014 models require a specific tpms stem. Youll have to get the stems replaced to get the sensors to sync
Another great tesla video that tesla was a bargain I wish I could get one that cheap in Australia
Good stuff bro and just like that there's only one thing left to fix now and that would be the backup camera. Have a good one and I look forward to the next one
Nice video randy showing us electric cars not just gas all the time.
Thank You Randy for showing us not to be afraid to get into a Tesla. I'm still waiting for the hybrid Tesla. I believe Nikola would have done it if he was alive.
Randy, Have watched all your videos for a year or two now. Plus Mikes too. But where is this Bently i keep hearing about but no RUclips I can find. Thanks your big Wichita fan
Coming this weekend.
I gently persuaded my headlights out (for new ones) on my Nissan Frontier today. Fun.
In the USAF we had a saying if it don't go force it and if it breaks it needed replaceing any way !
Yes Randy! Loving the videos and content keep it up! Have a great day! And don’t worry I’ve been having a (great) time trying to replace a trolling motor. It’s not fun still haven’t got it done lol
Strut tower bushings are shot!!
My Volvo has the exact same issue BUT it depends on how cold it is outside. So weird
If you need to replace the TPS make sure to use OEM. I went to Discount Tire for winter tires in used wheels. They said they have had issues with the sensors they sell not working on a Tesla.
Hey Randy from my understanding sway bar end links need to be installed with the suspension “loaded” and at ride height
Hey Randy, check the top of the strut. Make sure that the nut did not back off and the hat is loose. I've had a Taurus that sounded the same way and this was my issue.
Happy Mardi Gras Randy from southeast Louisiana!! Been watching you a while now! I wished you a happy Mardi Gras last year, seems like yesterday!! Kelly
Happy Mardi Gras!
Thanks for showing us Randy how easy it is to work on these things. I must admit I was legit terrified for you when you started the Tesla videos with dismantling the heater core. Awesome man continue the excellent work!
Have an 02 LS had a similar rattle over bumps at low speed. Diagnosed as front shocks. Replaced them myself and it solved the noise.
I have a 2003 Toyota Tacoma that I purchased new and after it has around 120,000 miles or so, a stabilizer bar end link went bad. Once the new one was installed, it still rattled. The alignment shop had to put a little extra torquing in to stop the rattling. You may be experiencing another slight issue or it maybe that it needs to be tightened up a bit more.
it might be the CV axle when it makes clicking sound when u turn the wheels randy that might be bad as well if it front wheel drive
There are no FWD Tesla's. This is RWD there are no CV axles in the front.
Well done mate on fixing the issues and sharing your knowledge and experience.
Here's a suggestion for you to line up your Tesla on the lift. It looks like it is on the lift good in this video, line up the dash with something on the wall and do that every time and it should be right.
You really do a great job on what looks like easy fixes. That said there doesn’t appear to be any easy Tesla fixes. I like you fix videos……wonderful camera work and enjoyable commentary.
FWIW, the Model S is really easy to work on relative to other cars I've worked on--it is apparent that the engineers actually thought about how to make it simple to fix. Unlike my German cars where the engineers endeavored to make at least one bolt that holds a part on totally inaccessible.
@@JamesSheridan-td4ci I’m not into car repairs. I doubt I would ever buy a Tesla……EVs just have too many issues and I don’t believe in global warming caused by man. Fossil fuels will be required for at least the next 100 yrs.
@AutoAuctionRebuilds What is the blade brand and type you used that easily cut through the camber bolt? If you have an affiliate link please reply with it. Thanks!
I love the garage videos and videos when your out in your yard with the cars way more than the walk around videos!!!
My 2013 85 had this weird noise issue. I got replaced both upper control arms and sway bar links replaced and fixed the issue.
Could be the top hat on the strut, sometimes that bearing will rattle
I’m glad you have those ratcheting wrenches! They make life so much easier.
“Thats not long enough” thats definitely what she said. 🤣🤣🤣 Randy time to open up EV shop.
could be the inner bushes on that anti roll bar, personally i take the whole bar off. never notice a difference
I'm thinking of buying an EV car, I love my e-bike! Thanks for all the helpful information Randy. Happy Valentine's Day to you and your lovely lady!!!!!🌹🙏😁😘
You should replace all suspension links' rubber bushings from the side that was bad because the one that was bad probably put strain on the good ones and all the good ones probably got play in them hence the light rattle.
Get you a big mirror and mount it on the wall in front of your lift it will really help when trying to drive on the lift centered hope that helps
Sheesh I saw the comment noting that the tesla videos are boring and it was the most liked comment?! I love these tesla videos! Electric is the future and EVERYONE is going to have to learn how to work on them eventually anyway so i’m glad I can learn already from you! Not to mention I LOVED the idea you had to buy another tesla for parts! I loved it so much i’m going to try my own hand salvaging teslas and their parts myself! Between the batteries and special electrical units that are low in stock from the dealers I think there’s tons of money to be made!
Would have been great to do one video call with Rich Rebuilds.
Get a wall mount convex mirror like they use for alignment racks to help you get your cars on the lift.
Good job fixing the heat!
In this gas vs EV autos argument, an objective side-series about this EV could yield additional viewers.
Hey Randy, just wanted to let you know that I watched your video and you fixing your Tesla again. Can’t wait to see your next video on it. I hope you have a great day and I’ll talk to you soon.
😅 Whenever replacing suspension components you need to have the weight of the vehicle on the wheels prior to tightening and final torquing otherwise the bushings are preloaded and wear out prematurely. Have enjoyed watching your videos for many years!
Hey from South Africa enjoying your videos
Good job Randy. Almost there with the Tesla 😎😎👍👍
The front brake pads could be rattling. They are Brembo calipers. Mine was rattling and the pad spring was rotated so I centered it and it seemed to help.
Good morning Randy. Fixing the 2013 Tesla Model S P85. Replacing the rear tow link and the front sway bar links.
Randy you must change the sway bar bushings also they are worn-out for sure
Sway bar links do not rattle they only make cracking noise while steering
It's probably be your upper strut mounts
11:44 “Whoa these are stiff”
“that’s what she said..”
Great job, Randy look forward to seeing more videos on the Tesla
Check the sway bar bushings
Cross frame bushing on sway bar should take care of the rest of your noise
Even if he wrenches on an old mopet I would still watch it. And congrats! Don't think that you can go from A to B cheaper than with this steal of a deal. I think that this is the one to hold on to for a while.
That bolt has to be a grade 8 hardened metric one. Most suspension bolts are usually grade 8 on the major support components. 😊
could do a video of how awesome a fiat 500e really is for around town only charging once a week
Hey I've been watching you for a while now and I enjoy every one of your videos and just hoping you are staying warm sometimes when it's cold and you are still trying to work out 😊anyway continue to do what you do and I'll definitely keep watching you and supporting. Dc is in the building ❤❤❤
If ya gotta do the control arm bushings on the front, id do that before the alignment, like the videos where ya work on em 2 !
Randy why do I want a high milage tesla now? Like you I really enjoy fixing things! 😊
Great job! Whatever the other noise you'll figure it out.
Sway bar bushings? Usually when I'm eliminating a clunking front end, I do those as well. Nothing helps renew a front end like springs and struts, but on a Tesla, that could break the bank I'd imagine. Possibly that's already been done with the miles and all.
AutoAuctionRebuild: please check all fuses. The old AC shorts the when it gets destroyed, so you might still have a fuse that is broken.
Loving the Tesla videos, looking for a used one that I can use to commute to my job
Great video Randy ❤❤❤❤
Looks like a "Keeper" for under $10K. Good find!
Randy if there is a Discount Tire location in your area take the Model S there to have it aligned. They work on a lot of them and they are very good service wise I know from my own experience with them enjoying watching your videos.
Good video as usual and I've been trying to put myself in your place as far as that rattling I know this is far-fetched but I ran into this problem once and it turned out to be the brake pads in the front rattling around. Unless you still hear it when applying the brake that would cancel that out now I can't wait to find out what it is lol
G'day mate, watching this great video in Penang Malaysia. Your Tesla is in amazing condition for the miles it has done.
I like your Tesla videos. you're doing great! keep them coming
Great Content Again Randy. Very interesting and informative. A break from the Norm. I could watch this for hours. Bravo 👏👏👏👏🇺🇸🏴
I have buddy with a rack like yours. But, how do you support the car when on the rack so you can remove the tires? A simple "How To" would be great.
Oh my god please put the set belt o n the dinging is driving me crazy!
Keep it up Randy car looks so do much better! Keep it up Randy love it!
Nice job Randy all said and done auto spa
Those frint end components are put together and then lifted into the body.
Put a vise grip on bolt or use grinding wheel
I would use the hammer on a regular wrench, then switch to the ratcheting wrench once the nut is loose.
Check the wheel plate covers sometimes the clips break and make a rattling noise while bouncing happened to me
great job fixing the tesla. really enjoyed this video.
Good morning. Good to see you again.😊👍
Great video Randy.❤💯👍
I love that ELR Rebuilds. I know the video is about the Tesla which is very nice also 👍
It's probably the bushings as you said.
Tesla for liability reasons would need to replace the entire suspension. If any rust is observed, Tesla would need to replace the entire system. There is clearly rust on that suspension.
Hopefully you brought all the cars that u wanted and sold the ones that u wanted to sell
Good job Randy
That noise sounds like your brake pads I would check them to make sure that all of the clips are good and in place
You can do this my friend.
im just thinking content for you not a lot of fiat 500e out there would love a 2013 first run tesla we have a model y now love it
Good fix. Thanks for sharing your videos. 👍
Great job randy
I’m surprised the ratchet wrench didn’t break from hitting it with the hammer. Those things are not the strongest, I’ve had them break just pulling on them really hard
I beat the hell out of mine and never had one break.
Those look much higher quality than the old craftsman I had! Great job!
