    • @Anthony98005
      @Anthony98005 5 лет назад +9

@WhatTheHawk38 You have to first off, relax, breath, and focus on how big the vehicle actually is. Imagine you're driving your car when you're in the truck. Have that kind of confidence going in. Also remember that you have a lot more space than you think when driving. I would say that if you go in with confidence and you really focus and believe yourself, you'll be just fine. That's how I did it

Just passed at the Bridgewater location. They are hard on the uniform thing because it’s about attention to detail. Also, you are not supposed to dry clean your uniform. It’s not supposed to be given to anyone outside of UPS because of the access it grants. It pretty much allows you into ANYWHERE. It was hard because of the memorization. I was great at writing it but the second I needed to say it out loud, I’d freeze and blank out. The other thing for me was that I was the only one. Just me and Gary. He’s a great instructor because he’s done the job. Some may think that would make it easier but I had no down time. Questions that would normally go around the table, were all mine. No time to breath. Driving was easy for me because I have my CDL A and drove a bus for several years. I’m starting part time air. My goal is a feeder driver. Thankfully this process is moving fast for me. I started pre load through peak 2019, this driving process started at the beginning of February 2020 so I’m in step with my plan. BTW, I’m a 52 year old female. The work is tough but if you work and show up, it’s easy to move up. It only takes 4-5 years to reach top pay, benefits are top notch and the pension is awesome and unseen in most companies, now. Good luck to all who are on their way! It’ll be worth it.

The morning start time, coming back from lunch, coming back from break or even coming back from a bathroom break at the time they tell you to be back. I went to school at the end of February 2020, I failed!! To me your class most of the day. Since they want u to driver in there manner why not have more outside driving time. So get your 5 seeing habits out of the way alone with your tens.. do that on the first day!! Secondly pay to have your uniforms dry cleaned if your not a ironing person. Have the with straight line for your pant no slouching in pant. You don’t have to have boots but they need to be slip resistant shoe that are shine able. Because they grade the shine and if it’s a work shoe, no heavy boots or shoes because they look at how you walk to the next stations for work. When your doing integrad station outside please make sure your walk at a brisk pace they look at that too. They also want u to know the diad. When u get your two driving papers please study that in your own vehicle. The 2 minute driving drill alone the othe paper that says stale green light , point of desission, left right left, then one mirror check. The drill make sure u clear ever intersection call out ever pedestrian or cross walk and do not driver over a pavement that is all broken up call it out as a hazard. Have self confidence in your self. They listen and look at class room presentations as a group. They put in buddy system so if one slacks u can help each other. I had a guy and he wasn’t helpful as soon he was finished with his computer work, he got up and left to start the work station which is for two ppl to do together. So it makes you look bad when your partner leaves ...u behind. Make sure to study the pre inspection paper as well. I think I would have passed if I had more time on the road. I slacked on the controlling of the truck. Make sure you finish all modules with diad connected to the Bluetooth. Uniform inspection was hard bc you spend so much time at the hotel trying to iron. Get hemm tape and men get a shaver. But it was good experience just overwhelming.Take deep breaths and show them that u hand the route, the truck and the driving drill, and timms, and stale green lights..pass all modules u get 3 tries so it best to read fast. Plan ahead

The new “diad” aka the scanner came out last August and everything is self explanatory. It’s awesome and so much easier than the one I had to use when I first started. The new scanner is a game changer but I think other than that you’ll be fine. You are going to do a lot of commentary while driving with your instructor so just be prepared and don’t over think it. Kam it’s not that bad, just graduated about 2 months ago and passed 30day probation . I went to intergrad in Arizona . Just know your 5 and 10s shave and follow proper uniform guidelines and your fine. As far as probation use your breaks and lunch to fix your truck line packages right cuz the loaders suck. I would get work at 530 everyday to load my own truck because I wanted it loaded correct . After probation it’s all different I don’t get to work until 840 and actually take my full hour lunch and relax . All depends how bad you want the job .

Pattyg1st you go to school for 5 days, memorize the 5 seeing habits, 10 point commentary, 5 rules of backing, 8 yard safety rules, 5 rules to preventing slips and falls, 8 keys to lifting and lowering, and hazmat rules. When you get the email from HR, there will be a depth of knowledge attachment. Memorize it WORD FOR WORD. You will be tested on it every day. On the last day you must pass. Here are some acronyms that will help a ton. For the 5 seeing habits, All Good Kids Love Milk. (Aim High I’m steering, Get the big picture, keep your eyes moving, leave yourself an out, make sure they see you.) There are definitions to that also! 10 point commentary, Starting up in traffic, when stopped in traffic, Count 1.2.3 after vehicle ahead has started to move, 4-6 seconds following time for speeds under 30 MPH, 6-8 seconds for speeds over 30 MPH, 8-12 seconds eye lead time, scan steering wheels, stale green lights, eye contact, pulling from curb, use of mirrors.
      How I remember these is
      Starting, stopping, 1.2.3, #4 is 4-6 #5 is 8
And SCCCC ( scan steering wheels)
STEP U!!! Imagine Shhhh!! Fuck you!
      ST- stale green lights
      E- eye contact
      P - pulling from curb
      U- use of mirrors.
For yard control safety rules think
      ROB A SHIP
R- Yard certified employees must wear Reflective vests while working in yard.
O- Yard certifies employees must place orange cones in work area.
B- Employyes must stay in designated Break areas and walkways.
A- Only yard certified employees are Allowed outside of designated break areas and walk ways.
S- Vehicles must obey posted Speed limits and and wear Seatbelts at all times.
H - Vehicles must be equipped with operable headlights or reflective material for 360• visibility.
I- Employees authorized to drive must remove keys from Ignition before exiting vehicle.
P- Employees must enter and exit through Pedestrian doors.
As far as the safe backing goes, imagine you’re in a package car backing up (let me save you some heartache and tell you DONT EVER BACK UP UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO! It’s dangerous, and a BIG no no.) Hazmat is Secure DEN. Secure area, don’t touch, evacuate, notify supervisor. As far as preventing slips and falls, imagine you’re there in the hub. You’re in a hurry, so you’re WALKING AT A BRISK PACE, but you also need to ESTABLISH FIRM FOOTING. It would be a waste of time to walk on the conveyors, so you should STAY OFF UNSECURED CONVEYOR EQUIPMENT. But while you’re walking you should also LOOK BEFORE STEPPING, and since someone spilled oil on the floor ADJUST TO CHANGING CONDITIONS.
It’s not hard once you get it down. 25% of this is having a great attitude 75% is studying and learning. Find a study buddy or, UPS has videos on RUclips for it. On the last day of class when you take this you MUST have all of it right. Don’t get intimidated, and take your time completing the test. You’ll be much farther along if you memorize these before going to class. Also, before going to class, drive like you would drive a package car ( ie, 2 and 10 steering wheel position with thumbs pointed up etc... you got this!) Damion Albino has a couple GREAT books on how to become a UPS driver, and How not to fail as a UPS driver. If you have prime it’s FREE on kindle. Also, for the first 30 days you’re basically on probation. If you wreck.. and by wreck I mean hit ANYTHING you’re disqualified. Don’t let that get to your head, just be aware of your surroundings and take it easy. After 18 days you’ll be expected to scratch a load. What that means is they will assign you 9 hours of work, and you’re expected to get that done is 9 hours or less. A supervisor will ride with you for 3 days. After graduating, request a route manifest ( your route) and drive it in your personal vehicle. Get that route down and 50% of your work is done, and your supervisors mind will be BLOWN. Also, it takes a huge edge off if you’re already familiar. You know the area, know the hazards, and cut your chances of crashing significantly. It’s a great company, and it’s a GREAT LIVING!!! Remember this, as it’s true with MANY jobs. People don’t get fired, they fire themselves!!

Are you talking about ATLGA? PLEGA?, FPAGA?, or the new hub? Anyway, at Whites Creek, they posted a bid sheet roughly each January; sometimes more often. But I'd expect without actually working at those hubs, you got years to go. And normally, full timers are getting first shot. Normally. And at Whites Creek, getting to feeders was cut throat. People could care less what malady excluded you, including your own death. So don't expect anyone to tell you. Find the bulletin board where bid sheets are posted and sign only the jobs you'd take if offered. Again at the creek, if you signed for a job and were awarded it, it was yours even if you didn't want it and even if it meant a month later the job you wanted came open. You were stuck until another bid sheet was posted. Also, there was or used to be a hard limit on how often you could change shifts in the hub. Like if next week, you changed from midnight to twilight, but a month after that, there was an opening on noon day, you were stuck. It takes a while to learn the ins and outs. Getting the hang of vacation was really foreign.

Like any driving positions at UPS you have to bid on the position. The way it works is a bid list is posted up and it is up for 10 days. Positions are filled by seniority from top down.

Fl_ATC_Riders How hard would it be for me to get Delivery Truck jobs. I work at UPS now for over 30 days as Package Handler in hub, but worked the driver helper seasonal jobs the last 2 years. I've had a Class D license for 13 yrs, only 3 accidents which only 1 at fault 10 yrs ago. Only driving jobs I've had is Uber for 3 years (3000+ rides with 9.7 rtg avg.) Know a little about driving clutch vehicles from video tutorials. Your thoughts. My supervisors don't seem honest when I ask cause I might work too well in hub and don't want me to leave. Thanks!

@@GoodFilms28 crowman is correct ups seems like they prefer people without a cdl. But regarding to your question in my hub the biggest problem with warehouses people moving up is having a bad driving record. But either way it seems as if they still want you to work a yr or more before they even consider it. In reality it all comes down to management and who you know. Iv worked for 3 very large companies and to be honest hard work doesn't get you as far as it used to its all about who you know and if your willing to kiss ass.

If you’re not comfortable driving stick don’t apply. Get comfortable and apply after. The last thing you want is to get stuck in a manual and you don’t feel as confident.
