This is coming from a Roy main from Sm4sh. Basic summarization of his strengths -fast. Has good air and ground speed. -strong. Ftilt, Bair, Fair, Fsmash, Dsmash, Usmash, Flare blade (important) and Up b are some notable kill moves, and even Nair can kill -has combos. Nair strings and Dthrow combos in this game give him good, good damage. -Fast, strong tilts. Utilt kills quite early, but Jab and Dtilt are both very fast, with Jab setting up combos Weaknesses -gets comboed a lot. He’s a fast faller, he can’t help it -Can sometimes struggle with projectile spam -Can kinda have some difficulty landing, not that bad though Recovery is much better than people say it is. But don’t get careless with it.
also from a sm4sh roy main and ultimate roy main: he has good approach options dthrow to aerials or tilts is great he can now turn around using neutral B neutral B reverse can now be a read tool
SlimesDoesStuff His Neutral B is actually a ledge trapping tool now as well. You could use it to ledge trap in Sm4sh, but it was worse. It covered Jump, regular get up, and get up attack with various timings. You could release it early and punish roll from the ledge with Usmash, pivot grab, side b, Up B, and Back Air thanks to the fact that it has practically no lag. Now, you can just turn it around to punish rolls, and even fake the turn around to make them think you will cover rolls (prompting them to perform one of the other three ledge options) then turn it back around and kill them. I killed a Bowser from 44% in Sm4sh once with this, it’s going to be a slept on threat in Ultimate with specific escapes being unmanageable.
I'd place him bottom of top tier or top of high tier right now until people figure out how to play their characters and counter others. Then who knows where he'll be either way though I can't see him falling out of high tier in this game.
I would really appreciate if you made a more advanced tech guide. Dash dances, wave dashing, "perfect" controller layout, how to DI, how to land, tech chases and how to tech correctly (what options to choose) and so on
Wait... is that Fire Emblem Binding Blade music I hear in the background. ZeRo are you making a Roy video and using music FROM HIS GAME?!?! I honestly can't remember the last time I've seen a guide do that... You just made my day! PRAISE OUR BOY
As a loyal Roy main in Smash 4, and a big fan of him as far back as Melee, it makes me happy beyond words to see his potential so amazingly realized with this iteration of the character. I can't wait to play him more in Ultimate, and really push him to his limits
I love Roy, you can pretty much combo anything and get really creative with it. I like grab>down throw>tap neutral special>forward special ending with upward slash>up special>dash into a jab>forward smash.
Koopaling Roy is not even a character, just a Bowser Jr. skin. Shitty joke, older and deader than Ugandan Knuckles. (And one that was never as funny.) I also just realized that Ugandan Knuckles in acronym form is "UK". Food for thought.
I main Roy and I never see anyone else use the blade dance that ends with you knocking them up into the air. I have found a bunch of interesting combos especially on heavy characters.
Roy's ftilt is actually one of the few moves in smash that can function straight as an anti air because the hitbox starts uptop in front of him. While uptilt is better if you are underneath them. It can beat out or trade with fairs and other moves more easily on reaction than marth or lucina that require you to throw out the move earlier. At least thats what I liked about it
I have been maining Roy since sm4sh, which isn't a lot of time but it's enough to see that his speed has increased notably and that makes him pretty good. Also, I now can combo normal-heavy weight from 0% to ≈60%
Can you include your on GC controller input display (like your streams) for these videos? would be helpful to see what and when you input certain things to try and replicate combos

It’s very easy to see why people enjoy watching him whether you like him or not.
As a player of Roy since Melee, I wanted to get a refresher on Roy. For me, this video helped in that respect and understanding how he has changed. Unfortunately this guide does not cover any of his key characteristics. For any new player that is thinking of using Roy, here are some of the core mechanics missed in this video. 1. Roy's neutral special can be charged and can kill at 0 when near the edge, you can also change the direction of it simply by pressing left or right while you are charging and can also be charged/change direction in the air. Be careful, charging all the way if hitting someone or not does damage to Roy. 2. Roy's up special can be changed in direction somewhat, if you use the up special, try changing its direction with the analog stick so that you can change the path you take. 3. VERY IMPORTANT: Roy's attacks do less damage and less knockback when it is near the tip of the blade, and does significantly more damage and knockback near the hilt.
Chrom has even damage along his sword. Roy's is stronger at the hilt and weaker at the tip. This gives Roy a better combo game but gives Chrom more reliable damage. Roy also has a better recovery so I prefer him.
Hey zero I love the guides. It lets me understand what moves characters have and which ones I should expect even if I’m not playing the character in the guide. That being said it would also be very beneficial as a viewer if you also could mention what is good against the character. It allows the person playing Roy, in this case, to know what will be exploited on them as well as helping us to know how to exploit the character we don’t intend to play.
Also, Roy's sword does less damage at the tip and more damage closer to the hilt. This actually makes Roy feel more realistic since in real life swords do more damage at the hilt and less at the tip. This is because the hilt has more mass to be used for bludgeoning and keeping the sword balanced, while the tip is used for precise cutting attacks.
