A Fire Emblem hater: their hair
The hair and the voice, those are all the differences :^ )

@@sbeegb1808 The fact that even Sakurai recognize that at the point to add that quote in the game should make you think about it.
The fact that people still try to say that Marth and Roy are exactly 1 to 1 makes me sad

Roy is basically a much more better Marth.
@@juanrodriguez9971 Marth is still good dude.
He's better at spacing and can get easy edge guards and gimps.
@@revelationsgaming2727 its annoying but really good. You don't even need your tippers in most cases. Sour hits to tipper hits are a really good for combos. On stage you want to get as many tippers. In the air at early percents you want to try and get some sour hits to tipper hits for the most damage. As an edge guard tippers are the way
Marth: who are you?
Roy: I'm you, but on fire
Roy: oh yeah? Well I'm you, but koopaling

One thing:
*Marth's and Roy's Shield and Parry animations are mirrored*
For example, _Marth's Shield animation is Roy's Parry...and Marth's parry is Roy's Shield animation_
The hand gesture is similar, but Roy has his sword in front of him, while Marth covers his face. Comparing Roy's parry and Marth's shield
That's like asking the difference between Mario and Luigi

Roy's Final Smash also catches opponets behing him, doing multiple hits and dragging them in front of him, to finsh the off with the Final Hit of his Critical Attack.
I also learned that it kills most characters at 0% on FD as long as Roy stands right at the edge and drags the opponent in front of him.
I'm not really a FE fanboy, I haven't even played any of the games, but I'm sure his final smash is Binding Blade, not a critical hit.
@@Wolfie_-xz7hs It is Critical Hit. He's FROM Fire Emblem: Binding Blade. Check the Move List. Before you start being a Smart ass. His Final Smash is literally his Critical Hit move from Binding Blade.
@@Wolfie_-xz7hs it is a critical hit its just that the critical hit is from fire emblem binding blade.
Fun fact, Marth has a sound glitch with his up-tilt. If the move hits an opponent behind Marth, the tipper sound effect will play regardless of the move tipping or not. I think it was just an oversight but I find it funny nonetheless.
I knew it!
Pat2wik
the ingame tips do mention that Marth/Lucina's uptilt does more damage behind them, so maybe they used the tipper sound to signify that
oh, so I'm not good at landing tippers
that's fun
that's cool :')
Marth's Shield Breaker can also be angled.
It also has a 1.1x damage multiplier if it hits head hurtboxes, but against more realistically-proportioned characters, that's a negligible fact.
@@OneGamer2EnvyThemAll Ah, I forgot about that.
Still, with all these diferences it's nearly like saying Link and Pit's arrows are the same, sure, they both charge up for a big attack, but a lot of moves in Smash work that way.
@Matheus Fernandes Not being able to do so in Brawl only means he couldn't do so in Brawl-- It's a new thing in Ultimate.

I don't have a problem with sword users
I have a problem with counters
@@xlayer5 Honestly, some characters have basic counters but im glad that Nintendo tried to mix up their use like Incineroar and Bayonetta
I don't think it's just that I think it's there's too many characters with Marth's side B. Good thing they changed that up with bylel
Counters are the move that I hate the most and the fact that almost every FE character and characters without enough source material have it as a default annoys me tbh.
@@mythoughtsexactly2145 It's weird, Pokemon characters have way more different counters than FE, even when the counter is the characteristic move of FE characters.

Marth's up-B has invincibility in the first frames, while Roy has super armor (only the grounded version).
It's a little subjective, but Roy onstage game seems better, while his recovery and edge guard is worst than Marth's
Roy recovery is more horizontal distance
And marth ricovery is more vertical
@@estefanofonseca1640 Watch the video again because marth and roy have the same vertical distance of recovery(thats true roy has a good horizontal recovery)
Marth's up b is quicker which makes him better at recovering at ledge, whereas Roy keeps his momentum that makes him better at early recovery
Yeah Marth recovery is superior since Dolphin Slash has faster startup and invincibility. The fact that it's one hit makes it more risky to edgeguard since you can get easily reversed offstage while Roy's Blazer gives you more time to react with a tech.
True true.
Yeah I'm tired of people calling marth and Roy the same character

1:25 I'm sorry, but was that cpu just teabagging
Yes
I appreciate that people make videos of what you can learn by checking the wiki
One thing missed when talking about the recoveries (up b), Roy’s up b has super armor for about the first 2 frames of the move, when grounded. (I think it’s frame one but I forget which one it is.)
Plus, although both Roy and Marth share similar moves, their play styles are completely different. For Roy, what I’ve noticed is that you play him in the sense of a Captain Falcon. What I mean by this is that you play him in a “read based” play style, while being aggressive. Fast fall, back hit of Up air on a grounded opponent and then back air is true and it’s great. Punishing landings, pick up on habits, know when it’s the right time to use his burst option/strings. For Marth, it’s just a spacing game. I can’t go too in-depth for Marth (mostly because I haven’t played him since SSB4). I bet there is someone out there that can give a better description than I can.
Roy's is also a lot slower moving. Marth's sends him upward extremely quickly, while Roy's takes a second.
I love this type of videos
Well, Roy's name is Roy
and Marth's name is Marth
This question exist because in melee they are clones ! The only difference is the particularity of the swords !
Thanks for this video 👍 !
Did you ever play Melee Roy and Marth? There's a reason one of them was top 5 and the other was bottom 5...
@@AlastorNahIdWinRadioDemon yes I played but I'm not a pro player but on the paper on Melee they are the same character without count, the wave dash mechanical find by the players, the fire effect on Roy attacks !
They have exactly the same same pose, the same specials in Melee
It's in Smash Wii U/3DS we saw the Real difference, on the pose, the move-pool, attacks, the speed, the height ... and in Smash Ultimate again and they assumes clones characters by call them echos-fighters.
Imagines we have the same Roy and Marth since Melee in Smash 4 and Ultimate : that's mean :
Marth = Roy = Lucina = Chrome = The biggest WTF 🤣🤣 4 echos-fighters !!
Fortunately it's not that !!
@@brivaldim6616 Let me ask this
Did you ever play both characters back in Melee? I did. Blazer and Flare Blade were still very different from Dolphin Slash and Shieldbreaker, they still had some variations on weight, speed and jump height, and while more of their neutral, jab, aerial, tilt snd Smash attacks were similar, they still had more differences than say... Pichu, Dr. Mario or Young Link.
@@brivaldim6616 "Chrome"
Also Marth and Roy are not called echo fighters in the game lmao
@@AlastorNahIdWinRadioDemon i'm totale agree with you 👍 but The difference are More visible since Smash 4 and Ultimate for all players I think and I hope . Not only for pro players 😁
Okay, two things I noticed since this video dropped:
1. No mention of the differences in their air speed and acceleration. Roy has the 8th WORST air accel but the 4th FASTEST top air speed in the game, whereas Marth has 31st best air accel and 39th fastest air speed. Roy moves through the air faster than on the ground, but takes a moment to reach that speed and can't change trajectory on a dime.
2. The UpB's going the same vertical distance on the ground is misleading: It leaves out the core detail that Roy's only goes roughly half the vertical distance when used in the air, meaning his recovery is still worse even when disregarding differences in fall speed and double jump height.
For, zero suit samus, Captain falcon, Little mac, joker and sonic are faster
I ment fox
Roy has the 4th fastest air acceleration, tied with chrom. Luigi has the 2nd war air acceleration but give him more combo and edgeguard game
This is my fav series! Please do more! A new suggestion: Whats the Difference Between Captain Falcon and Ganondorf?
Again, two very different characters, but just like this, they are still very made fun of for small similarities.
Lucasgamingstar , I think that’s an idea that lingers from Melee because those two were legit the same in that game but as time went on, they became very different but still not enough to not notice that Ganon got the foundation of his moveset from the blazing racer
smsdamiracle
Yea, which is why this would be very interesting.
I would love to change Ganondorf's down B, that kick just doesn't fit with him.
Juan Rodriguez
Make it something more original, right? Like instead of sword he should use the weapon HE ACTUALLY uses. His spear!
@@lucasgamingstar3979 I know, the sword fits him, but, he never used it.
I hate how poorly represented is the Zelda series, from the "6 characters" 3 are clones, and seems like Sakurai will never change that.
They are honestly very different! Who do you guys like better?
I like Roy because I hated playing against marth in for glory so to take out my hate I chose Roy. And I also played awakening and Chrom was my favorite character. So Roy/Chrom
Roy cause he’s easier and I like him better and I think he’s funner to play
Marth cause I grew up using him
Characters I consider echo fighters have:
-The same hurtbox
-Only 1 or 2 different moves
-Unique taunts, victory screens, etc.
Professional Roy’s actually use the sour spots a lot in order to combo into a sweet spot. It’s really cool to watch
Think you can do difference between Lucina and Chrom, the echo fighters of Marth and Roy respectfully. Which move is stronger, the father’s or daughter’s? If you think that’s too similar to this video, that’s ok. Then I would suggest a video about the difference between Fox, Falco and Wolf.
I'm pretty sure that with the exception of sweetspots, most of Roy's differences also apply to Chrom. Then there's Chrom's Up-B, which bears resemblance to Ike's.
To answer your question, Chrom is overall a bit stronger than Lucina in terms of raw power
@@benhuang2773 Yeah, except Ike's is better. Because you don't have to be right next to your opponent to catch them in aether. Chrom, however, does.
Chrom has higher kill power but way worse recovery
Villager and Isabelle? Maybe even Fox and Falco? Do whatever!
As an Isabelle main,I can tell.
Isabelle:one hit up-tilt
One hit jab
2 hit up smash
1 non projectile f-smash
Non burying D-smash
Lower recovery
Fishing pole
D-special Lloyd
Villager
Multihit jab
Multi hit up smash
Projectile F-smash
Burying D-smash
Higher recovery
S-special Lloyd
Multi-hit up tilt
D-special tree
Fox is faster. More of a multi hit style and do less damage but can rack up fast. Blaster doesn't flinch opponents. Fox illusion doesn't spike. Doesn't have a spike and fire fox goes farther
Falco. High air mobility and higher jump. Slower on the ground. Smash attacks are slower but stronger. He throws his reflector. Falco phantasm spikes. Down b spikes. Has a lot of multi hits attack. Fire Bird goes a less distance.
Its really Fox and Wolf that are semi clones. Almost the same moveset but with more damage.
Both of you just gave me an example of a semi clone. So my point still stands. Marth and Roy are semi-clones, just like the ones I mentioned.
@@yankee1147 I also forgot to mention Isabelle always gets a triple turnip from U/D air while villager gets only 1,2,or 3
Keep in mind that even though they share a few attacks, the different sweet spots for each character (and fall speeds) makes these two play almost completely differently.
The fire on Roy's sword is not just animation, but also gives his blade fire properties. For example, if you hit explosives with Roy's sword, they tend to explode very easily
Marth's sword: Can kill red Pikmin.
Roy's sword: Can't kill red Pikmin.
So basically marth is getting a new red skin that represents Roy
Ha Nintendo nice one
just play roy and marth 1 time and you know the difference... why do people make these videos... its so obvious
Ikr
Because people ignore that and just say they both have swords they are the same the end. it is pointless trying to convince an Fe hater but people still try
@@aaronwolf6823 oof im a fire emblem lover and for me this video was just a desperate way just to make views
Blue Energetic
I clicked cause I thought it was a Melee video at first where the answer is "Marth works".
Devon Rubalcado Because people are stupid and love to pretend that this is Melee, where Roy is a clone character rather than a semi-clone like Luigi, Falco and Ganondorf.
Some of roys attacks have Fire Properties
Up Smash, Down Air, Netural Special, Side Special, Up Special & Final Smash are those I can recall
Down special too
You can also deal a bit more damage with Roy's smash attack if you can hit the opponent behind you because that little animation that Roy does before hitting actually has a hit box plus its multi hit if you can hit the opponent right with it
final smash, not smash attack
I always say that Roy looks and feels like a fistfighter but with slightly more range.
I like to think of it like roy is just bashing people with his sword like a club
AAAAAAA ALVIS PFP
There’s more views than subs we need to change that
Another property of Roy's FS is that the attack begins behind him, and can carry an opponent to his front before the final hit, so while it's not as strong as Marth's, it can deal more damage, and has a bit more utility.
Roys finally smash does not deal more than 60% but yea it has more use
For Marths Nair you can move backwards a tiny bit after the first hit to make it easier to tipper.
Simple: One is 19 and other is 15
Roy = Ken
Marth = Ryu/Chun-Li
Also, Roy can deal more knockback if the 3rd side B goes upward and you follow up with a normal 4th side B
Small bit of misinformation, Marth (and Lucina of course) can actually angle their Up specials, but it's harder to notice because it's not a huge difference.
To answer the title's question, in Melee almost none, in Smash 4 and Ultimate, a lot.
in Melee it's still a lot
No even melee Roy is very different
Lucas Della Maggiore Even in Melee, Roy was more different from Marth than Lucina was.
@@verde7595 Yeah. Roy was bottom tier while Marth was top tier.
0:16 that's smash players now a days, jumping forward and assume everything

One is a planet and one is our boy
I used to main Marth back in SSB4 (I didn’t get the DLC for SSB4) but then when I started playing SSBU I found that I was more comfortable with Roy’s play style. I like the more weighty characters while still deeming speed. Marty’s floatiness started to get annoying after a while too
Mario: I'LL GET MY REVENGE!
Simple. Roy’s is our boy. Marth is not (depending on who you are)
On the ground, Roy's sweetspots do more damage but Marth's tippers have NOTICEABLY higher knockback (an Fsmash that can kill at 40%). The OPPOSITE is true for their aerials.
Marth's fsmash kills pichu at 11% at the ledge I think.
@@mogus96 Even better to showcase the gap in Marth's tipper strength.
Also Roy’s final smash drags from behind him

You know 1 thing that really rubs me the wrong way regarding Fire Emblem Characters? It's when they say "We have 8 Fire Emblem Reps" but then go on to say there's 75 characters.
If you're going to say there's 75 characters, you can't say there's 8 because 75 is without counting echos and since Chrom and Lucina are echos, that would mean there's only 6 Fire Emblem Reps.
The reason it rubs me the wrong way is because by doing it this way, it gives people the impression that the "Fire Emblem problem" is worse than it actually is.
I wish they fixed Marth's hitboxes and made it easier to tipper because sometimes it's really bullshit
Yea, he would've been really fun too
what it would have normally sound like: roy can alter the trajectory of his move
what it sounded like with the audio bug (?): roy can alterthe trajectory of his move
Airspeed:
Roy: 1.302
4-5 fastest
Marth: 1.071
39-40 fastest

This is one of their biggest differences and you didn’t mention it. Speed is incredibly important to all fighters and the difference in these two makes them feel completely different.

Why Roy and Marth? They aren’t made to be the same lmao
They are though lmao. Did you ever play Melee?
@@shiggerator6816 we talking about ultimate who tf said melee that old ass game
@@GreatATheOne Well the fact that Roy was made to be an easy clone in Melee affects his moveset today. He has some different moves, but he's still a Marth clone at the core.
What if Marth is really a Roy clone? I mean, they were added the same game, so how do we not know that Marth just copies Roy? Thus, we have tons of Roy clones in smash?
@@lucasgamingstar3979 Because Sakurai has stated that they were looking for another FE character to copy off of Marth. We even know that they considered Leif from FE5 before Roy.
One thing I was surprised they didn't give Roy was his fire ball attack from FE6.
It should have been either what’s the difference between “Marth and Lucina” or what’s the difference between “chrom and Roy”. But still as always. Great video dude 👍
Lucina and Chrom are just stronger, that's the difference. And Chrom has Ike's up b.
This is why I hate Lucina and Chrom. I hate how they are just easier versions of these two.
And how more people play as them and say they are top tier
@@cailieisidro5758 Lucy is top tier though
I understand why u think but they’re made to be a more consistent version of Roy and Marth, though they have a lower risk, they get a smaller amount of reward, with Roy and Marth sweet spot mechanic, they are high risk high reward.
better consistency =/= inherently better characters. In the case of Marth yeah, Lucina is far and away better. Chrom and Roy are actually pretty close and I'd honestly say Roy is better because he gets rewarded for the exact same playstyle you would have with Chrom, and his recovery is a lot harder to gimp. This is a common belief.
@@verde7595 sadly true. Marth's tipper mechanics won't hit consistently even if you are really good with him. Roy in the other hand is definitely better than Chrom.

Next video: What’s the difference between Sonic and Falco?
The "Their the same character" more applies to that they just swing their sword around, not so much the actual attacks. Think, Link swings his sword around, but he also has kicks, and bombs and arrows, where Marth just swings his sword in a different way. That's what people mean.

Yeah I think Sakurai need to repair some characters how you say Roy and I think Ganondorf or Lucina and Chrom, there's a lot of characters which needs changes, what do you think?
Yeah, but seems like won't change that, which makes me sad because the concept of "echos" just doomed some characters to being clones and semi clones at best forever.
@@juanrodriguez9971 tienes razón por mas queramos esos cambios no van a suceder lamentablemente
@@lycantubeves5992 Adios a mi Dark Samus con movimientos propios de ella ;-;
Captain Falcon and Ganondorf next?
What’s the difference between Roy and Marth?
My friend: “Their swords”
Me, an intellectual: “Popularity.”
I feel like a good change for Roy would be to add the Fire element to Roy’s Nair.
5:48 I know the audio freaked out for 2 second but man you sound cool like a robot

As a Marth main, I feel ya man...
