We European are fully aware of how ridicolous the Eurovision is, that's exactly why we like it! Most of the songs are immediatly forgotten, is the madness of the exhibition that is remembered forever!

I completely agree with you. I see it every year since I was a child, sometimes I don't even get to hear the songs, I only see the votes. It is the funniest part, because it is a summary of the politics of each country in the year. Greetings from Spain.

As a US Eurofan I go well beyond this, I appreciate the languages folky entries, the cross-culturalization and don’t forget the fans and their memes and their vent lives...and the whole reason ESC exists. Also be mindful of the unique National Finals (Melodifestivalen- Sweden, San Remo - Italy, Vidbir-Ukraine, etc). As these are unique onto themselves. Poland NF had their contestants compete on Beatles songs for one of the semifinals... and also listen to the classic entries like Monaco 1971 and the 1965 France Gall Luxembourg... this contest is more than even this

Big Eurovision fan from US. Having 40-50 countries sending songs each year, there’s a big variety of genres with pop and ballad songs being the most common but genres like hard rock and punk have made appearances aswell. Countries sometimes send ”serious” songs that are musically of great quality and sometimes ”joke” songs that are meant to just entertain or actually send a political/social message. There is less traditional music being sent to Eurovision than like 20 years ago but it’s not completely finished. In a nutshell, you can expect pretty much anything

Usually there are 1-2 songs I like but this year I liked 5-6 songs and most years I have a favourite contestants and they eventually release albums and grow even more as an artist. People think the UK doesn’t take it seriously but I think the UK takes it too serious and we keep sending songs that might do okay on the radio but far too bland for Eurovision. I knew we would come last with such a boring song and dull performance! Love Ukraine, France, Switzerland, Greece, Iceland!

The Eurovision contestants ARE cool. It's just that America's definition of "cool" is sex and violence. Music has to be aggressive to be "cool". In Europe not so much. In Europe we like the traditional rhythms of different countries and cultural stuff. So singing vikings, like last year Norway, or before last year Denmark, ARE cool.

    • @PennyPennyPennyPennyPenny

'Cool' can mean any number of things, it's just in the US 'cool' is also also be applied to hip-hop and rap - a music that isn't always violent and has influenced music world-wide. Pop, the type of music that is typically featured in Eurovision contests pretty much comes from the US.
The Eurovision song contest is very cool, clearly, US citizens are obsessed with it right now and even admire/envy you guys for having such a contest. It's awesome.
