I would love to see a documentary made about Spielberg directing a whole movie, not just B-roll, but a whole documentary of Spielberg directing a specific movie (like the one on Kubrick's The Shining). Just to watch and see how he directs.
@@JoeSchumacher As if Tom Hanks needed that... I doubt he forgot the movie itself. It probably just slipped his mind who directed it. And he remembered very shortly after.
Most of my favorite entertainers are rebellious (and Conan is in his own way; the Contractually Prohibited Tour is like an incredible act of proactive resistance that harmed no one… which is a sweet and I’d argue very rare branch of rebelliousness), and I find it kind of charming and anachronistic - or like a nostalgic throwback - that Conan is so tied to ads. It’s part of his history, in his DNA, and he gives so much more of himself to the ad reads than… well, probably more than anybody asked for, tbh. But I get the sense Conan truly appreciates the support - and the freedom that comes with it - of his advertisers and wants to hold up his end of the bargain, so to speak. Contrast that with the sort of antics Hollywood Handbook or Your Mom’s House have played with sponsors over the years (and those are hilarious; well worth checking out even now), and like… yeah, for my money, Conan’s attitude and approach seem sweet and charmingly old-school to me.

He did the same thing with the beach scene in Saving Private Ryan, because he wanted the set to inspire him. He had no idea how to shoot the chaos. Sometimes, the best thing to do is block the scene in a way that works and then pick your angles from there.

@@Kmichaelcook87 no problem with in-video promotions, but cutting an interview off mid sentence is my only complaint. maybe find a better spot to put the ad break was my only suggestion. No need to scold people on how much people other than you need to make their money.
@@Kmichaelcook87 I get it, Conan’s successful and needs ads to keep his show running, but the issue isn’t about him needing ads, it’s about how they’re integrated into the content. The fact that Conan’s a comedic legend doesn’t mean he’s above a little constructive criticism.
Conon its not cable network from 90s, it's podcast, entire purpose of it is to have a fluid conversation and for listeners to feel like part of the conversation. So for the love of EVERYONE! keep your ads in the begining or at the end! It's infuriating to have them in the middle AND in short clips. Some of us pay for RUclips premium to NOT have those to listen while doing chores or driving or cooking, instead they are included in segments! Ughhh
I mean, just to put that in to perspective. For most directors that would mean a mess. With Spielberg you end up with the first 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan. He had no idea how he was gonna shoot that either until they were on the beach. His. "improvising" shots on set, is other directors most prepared best work.
That is exactly the kind of thing he would say! As Tom says in this clip, for some scenes (particularly effects-heavy scenes) they will be precisely worked out and heavily storyboarded but for others he loves the spontaneity of working it out on the fly.
