- “Extra’s” Charissa Thompson spoke with Will Ferrell as he promoted his new movie “Eurovision.”
When asked how he sold Pierce Brosnan on the role of his dad in the movie, Will said, “There’s always that moment when you’re casting a movie and you say, ‘Like a Pierce Brosnan type,’ and you usually don’t land the person you’re talking about - except in this case. When we’d written in the script, Lars’ father 'is the most handsome man in all of Iceland’… he agreed. We were jumping for joy.”
“Eurovision” premieres on Netflix June 26.

Also, the song “Husavik” brought tears to my eyes and I am not even Icelandic. Hats off to Rachel McAdams for performing it and Molly Sander for singing it. What a beautiful voice.
@Stevey wevey nah. Turns out they have similar vocals so molly basically fixed rachaels voice. There would be no reason to lie since we already know rachael cant sing on her own
The singer herself said that she can’t hear Rachel in there. I am sure they did mix something, but just to say that they did.

@Stevey wevey having the same vocals and being a good singer are different things. Also why wouldnt they edit the music. Its a movie not a talent show. Also they didnt need a singer for will ferrel because he wasnt supposed to be a good singer. Thats basically the premise to the movie
As a Eurovision fan for 30 years it's shocking how perfecty the music from the film captures the batshit crazy off the actual Eurovision.

Yes i believe it is a masterpiece too, initially, not a movie for me. But it is so thought through, every one Can have there favorite moment, you remember every scene. I compare it to the Big lebowski. You just wait for your favorite character or scene or song, every time you watch it. It is a little too Long but so is the European song Contest. This Will be a classic. And don´t forget the music! Not my style but wauv it is great, hilarious.

Yea true I heard a reviewer talking about Eurovision and saying she didn't know Abba got their start on Eurovision. All I was thinking was who doesn't know that. Even if you hate Eurovision you know that.
Ipek Komurcu I am American and I had no clue but now I’m obsessed and I want to watch it! It sounds amazing and also had ZERO idea that’s where ABBA got their start. My whole family is obsessed and we all agree we need Eurovision in our lives!

We live in Puerto RIco and my dad LOVED it and made us keep him company watching it. Ever since he discovered it he was obsessed and i'm really glad he made us watch. It was just so much fun and It made the movie extra good being able to identify the people there.
I knew about Eurovision, but to be fair I mean it’s a euro centric competition, so you can’t blame Americans for not knowing about it.
The rest of the world knows about things like the Super Bowl because America’s culture is so dominant in the world.

Pierce Brosnan was in ‘mamma Mia’. He is not a snob when it comes to movies.
He seems like a really nice guy who doesn't take himself too seriously. That said, his Icelandic accent was HORRIFIC lol

Not only have I watched the movie 3 times now - once alone and twice with the kids - but the songs keep playing in my head.
I put them in on Spotify. And I laughed out loud several times - each time I watched the movie. Love 💕 it .

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie more than I can ever say......with a NOD to Elf (which I super loved) and amazing Will’s talent on all levels, including writer, who actually sings in his own voice.....Rachel McAdams is amazing and sings with the support of another singer....WOWOWOWOWOWOW, so fun. Gracious, I love knowing about Eurovision contest, thanks for sharing.

Pierce did a good job in his role. Movie is better than expected. Not sure it would have done well in a Theater, but a Great Netflix Original Movie.

That song along was one of the most fun scenes in awhile. And Will lending his star power to promote eurovision and showcasing its winners and contestants is a great testament to what kind of guy he is
I watched it and I thought it was fantastic.
I love this movie. I went in knowing nothing and came out utterly adoring this movie. Bronsan does look amazing and I'm definitely singing these songs over and over again.

My psuedo-family (sister, brother-in-law, boyfriend, all the pets) has seen this movie GOD more than 5 times since it came out, thank you for allowing some fluff into our lives right now. And, YES, the songs are SUPER catchy and are now memes in our household! Thanks for shining a spotlight on the Eurovision tradition, while also taking the piss out of it (as the Brits say)
I think this is the first time I've ever seen him where he wasn't being a character. As much as I love his characters, it's nice to know he really is a sane, down to earth human being.

All they said was that his character is “the most handsome man in Iceland” and he was sold.
I saw Pierce interviewed and he said Will Ferrel is such a nice and fun person, he wanted to work with him. He said it was an easy yes :)

I've been aware of Eurovision since ABBA won back in 1974, I'm so glad this movie seemed to celebrate that awesome group, I wish they would come sing for us again.

Been listening to the Eurovision Song Contest Fire Saga Soundtrack everyday since seeing the movie last week! Ja ja.. ding dong DING DONG! (Which btw, i think is a nod to the 1975 ESC winning song .. go ahead, look it up!)
Great movie Will, Rachael, Pierce, Molly, Dan, and all that made this movie happen. Came out for all to see at the perfect time considering the real ESC was cancelled due to COVID, but this movie is kind of like our own ESC 2020. Looking forward to seeing/hearing all of the performers next year 🤞🏼
I've been humming the songs... again and again and again... it's that good. If you're european and specially had the fortune to listen eurovision since 70s at least, you will understand the spirit of the movie completely.
I love how the interviewer asks "does your Swedish wife approve of your accent?" SMH Ferrell's character is Icelandic *facepalm*
interestingly enough, there;s a serious discussion about Molly's Icelandic usage in the "Husavik" song - so its actually an interesting point :)

Piers Brosnan has a heavy SWEDISH accent in the movie - Ferrell actually sounds Icelandic-ish in his. He must have studied it. All very funny. We Icelanders love it, though most of it is wildly inaccurate - but then some surprising hits. Hits and misses and all hilarious. Will watch it over and over, a feel good film. You can tell they had fun making it.

@Áróra Stormsdóttir Aurora Storm's Daughter (in English) conjures up ominous and colorful imagery. And it looks and sounds extra cool in Icelandic. I learned to pronounce a bit of Iceland before I visited a couple years ago.

I wish we could've made it to Husavik when we there but we did get photos at the keyboards they have set up on Reykjanes Penninsula. We had watched the movie (which I really liked) about a week before we went to Iceland and it was cool to be on at least on one spot that was in a movie we had just seen! Iceland is gorgeous and I would like to go back in the summer so I can get to Husavik!

Only thing i can say is a big thanks because i didn't know the name eurovision and i just know it 2 days ago when i was wathcing the movie and after reseach i saw that eurovision is something big over 60 years and i found new artist i didn't before just because the sing along song

As an American, I would prefer to watch Eurovision over the super bowl. ABBA and Celine Dion got their start on Eurovision and I enjoy their music to this day, but I wouldn't remember who won the super bowl three years ago. Thanks for a fun movie.

I have watched this film twice.. and will probably watch it again and again, honestly, it's genius!! I hope Americans "get it" - because if you have never watched eurovision before, it's hard to understand what it's about....it might seem like a silly film, but this is very true to life, I just wish Wogan were still alive, he would have LOVED this. We wake up singing Volcano Man in our house pretty much every day since watching - yes, we are mental. Jaja Ding Dong is my ring tone :-D
