For those unaware, nothing really happens in Navan and no one really leaves Navan. For Pierce to meet someone who had come so far a field in a similar line of work must be really touching
What about Hector, Tommy Tiernan and Pierce? 3 people from a small town in Meath that are succesful in the entertainment industry, considering the population id say thats a good percentage.. Plus, thousands have "left Navan" ive known lots of them.. I agree with your statement of how touching it would be though..from a small midlands town myself, travelled a lot and theres something so nice about running into someone who knows all the places you know, same turns of phrase.. Good stuff..
@@damotheman4196 In comparison to literally every other county in the country, yeah. If you get the chance to visit Ireland sometime I hope you get to learn a little more about it, we'd love to educate you!
@@DerelictCountry I just said i was from a small town in the midlands fella! Brosnan’s accent went full Irish when he started talking about his home.
Same thing happens to me when I speak of Newfoundland
@@acgruel and I with Cape Breton Island!
@@acgruel you and I probably have similar accents - the only two places in Canada you'll hear that HEAVY Irish accent is both of our homes (not the mainland though, right? 😛)

@@acgruel I adore Newfoundland. Beautiful people, which to me is what’s it’s all about. People always ask me why I love to travel. They ask if it’s all about seeing the sites. I say, “seeing the sites is a small part, for me it’s about meeting the people and experience the culture.”
I love how Pierce's accent went MORE Irish when he realised where the interviewer was from.
I do the same damned thing when I speak to old friends. I have a neutral accent, but once I hear a Scottish accent, I uncontrollably turn back to my original accent.
It's something in the blood.
That's awesome
What do you mean by a neutral accent out of curiosity? English?
@@benmartin6644 as in, not connectible to any region in the UK.

The interviewer did a great job. The whole thing came off as a natural conversation between two friends.

Brosnan's entire body language changed when he heard "Navan". The interview mask fell and we saw the real him come out. He got so lost in the memories of times past and it was wonderful to see him so happy
Well said.
Definitely. Was a beautiful moment.
That was actually what made me watch this. Ed trevors used it as a great example of showing genuine openness, and accessibility.
But I've also liked the man since the Remington steele days.
What fucking shite are you on about?
not to mention the accent!
Pierce is one of the good guys, a good husband, a good dad, thoughtful...never a scandal..acts, entertains and lives his life. Very admirable man.
He also loves them big! Awesome gentleman and true connoisseur.

"I'm not very good at lying--except when I'm acting."
That's crucial.
The way he physically relaxes as soon as he learns the interviewer is from Navan is amazing.
There's something so utterly genuine in the way Pierce says "very well" after being asked "how're you keeping". Like watching someone walking back into a warm room from the cold.
That is so beautifully put
I absolutely love the way he lit up here, this was wholesome. It just shows, that no matter how long he's been mingling with the Hollywood elite, he's still that humble and kind man from Navan. You can't hide that, this revealed the true him, and what a truly wonderful person he is.
I don’t know why it’s a shithole 😂 I live here
Truthfully, Pierce Brosnan has never been anything other than his authentic (true) self. Ever. This interview was quite lovely with the surprise and all, yes, but he's always shown his pride AND his humility about who he is and where he's from. He's a good Irish lad from Navan, and always will be (smile).
Love how his true accent emerged and his voice softened as if he was around family, telling a story. I hope they got each others contact info and keep up with each other.
It's like an intimacy thing, I guess. I do the same thing when I speak to old friends outside of work and my usual day-to-day. I think we all put on a little act and wear a different for the daily grind, to function. But you let it down with friends and family, or in any situation where you feel truly 'comfortable'.
I really enjoy the moment when Pierce asks Thomas where he's from, because there's a bit of that celebrity reserve where he's preparing to act surprised by something he thinks will underwhelm him. It's not arrogance or disinterest; he's just long in a world where people present the mundane as fascinating, and it's part of his job to play along. So when he hears "Navan" he is truly thunderstruck, and all of that celebrity armor falls away. A person professionally unsurprised is taken aback in the most delighted way possible.
this is beautifully written
i agree, beautifully written.
You really do suddenly see years flash in his eyes of memories.
Exactly
Wow I hope you are a professional writer.
He went from James Bond to a sweet Irish Great Uncle in a second
The minute he said "Navan", it touched his soul!!!
The way the interviewer immediately knew that Pierce's childhood home was still there. It's amazing how when individuals move away from their humble hometowns and countries to pursue their dreams in Hollywood, music, etc. they're such a source of pride for their people. Individual success becomes a town's (or even a country's) success.
Whoa! Pierce's accent got _WAY_ more Irish once he found out this interviewer was from his hometown. I can't remember ever hearing him speak with such a strong Irish inflection before.
Pierce Brosnan really deserved an Oscar nomination for his role in The Matador (2005). He plays a hitman going through depression and it's a beautiful, albeit forgotten, performance by him. He's such a talented actor.
I love that movie
Love this film pierce is brilliant
The movie is on my Tubi list
Classic film. 👌
Yesssss most underrated movie ever best scene him walking to the swimming pool absolutely amazing movie and he's Irish like myself 😁😁
Pierce was delighted he's a very proud irish man from navan he never forgot where he came from always talks about it even with all the fame he's a good guy down to earth and a great interview
How he said “i am the first super hero from navan” brought a tear to my eye. The sheer joy of being able to represent his home town and that someone from his hometown acknowledged what a moment it was.

Pierce's reaction to the interviewer being from his home town is truly wholesome. You can tell just by the way his face lit up with joy and pride. He's a lovely man.
I love that he felt comfortable enough to slip into his native accent
Notice the strong eye contact at the end while shaking hands. He obviously really enjoyed the connection.
Pierce Is pure class, and the greatest Bond to ever live, don't bother debating me about it.
2nd best Bond, after Sir Roger.....Nobody Did It Better
May I bother agreeing with you? Because I really do.
@@oddballssherman3785 roger? No way, connery is the best, dc is a grest bond to, roger is only above lanzaby or whatever his name was
You'll hear no argument from me, friend!
My favourite of the old and Daniel is the first of the new so for me, both at the top, Daniel may or may not be 2nd of the new if and when we get another.
The look on his face and the sound of his voice when Pierce says "very well" has made me watch it on repeat. The sincere love/joy/surprise is the reason we need more Pierce Brosnan.
Love the fact that Pierce's accent changed to not only the Irish accent but started back into the Navan accent. Worked there in the 90's in what was a meat factory called Honeyclover Meats, which no longer there. But that accent still lives on in my memory. Lived on the Commons Road, anyone from Navan will know where it is, and was two fields away from my work. We took shortcuts across fields, too long of a walk if we went the long way around.
Anyone remember the Laurance Hotel down at the end of town? Great nights in there, don't think I ever walked out of it sober. Thanks Navan. 🤣🤣🤣
Remember Spicers bread? Another one that doesn't exist any more!
I was brought up in Mullaghsboy with my Aunt and Uncle for two years whilst me Mum and Dad was moving up from Waterford to Dublin so I lnow a bit about Navan
I also worked in honey clover meats in 93
You can see in his eyes, when the interviewer said Navan, Pierce was transported back to his home town and all the memories came flooding back.
Pierce is always so kind and humble, he genuinely seems like a great person. My dad sat next to him on a flight back when I was a kid (mid 90's) and said he was a very nice guy. Makes it easy to be a fan.
You could see him just relax and feel safe when he found that out. Speaking to one of his own.
"There's a grá (love) for you in Ireland". That is so true. Pierce is a great Irish man. He didn't have it easy as a child either. He's a true gent.
He is the bond of us 90s kids. Always will be my favorite James Bond
And those of us who grew up in the 80s remember him as Remington Steele. 😉
And Stewart Dunmeyer.
Before the pandemic he was a semi-regular customer at my cafe in Agoura Hills, CA. He was always kind and appreciative to everyone he met.
The way his eyes just lit up like it was Christmas! It was beautiful!
"How are ya keepin"
"Very well"
What a great guy Brosnan is. So modest and genuine.
He needs his own spin-off. I honestly think he was touched the whole interview from hearing that. So amazing
Seems like a world-class gentleman. Never any scandals or dramas. Just quietly goes about his craft and does it well.
The Irish accent came out more and more through the interview. Brilliant. Love this guy, top top actor and fantastic personality.
I've gotta say, I was not initially a fan of Pierce Brosnan when he played James Bond, but as he's gotten older and the more I learn about him, the more he grows on me. Now, I'd love to see him at least in a cameo in a future Bond film, even if it's just a short bit.
He seems like a very innately kind and down-to-earth person, which is becoming increasingly rare in celebrities nowadays.
Watch Remington Steele, one of his first tv roles. It was great back in the 80’s.
His best "Bond" film was Thomas Crown Affair. Wish he had explored that character again.
He was a great bond tho

Damn it even I got chocked up and I’m nowhere near Irish. I’ve just loved Pierce Brosnan for so long so seeing him so joyful 😭😭😭😭😭 He was so perfectly casted as Kent Nelson, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he returns even if it’s just a cameo, he was my absolute favourite part of the film. The secret is out. You say Navan and Pierce suddenly has an Irish accent! He's a great guy. Lovely to see him react with genuine emotion.
Pierce is such a pro. He has a deep, heartfelt moment reminiscing about Navan but then smoothly segues to selling Black Adam, even if you don’t buy that Dr Fate was personal to him
I noticed his fondness for the role was stated as the positive experience he had making it with the cast and crew.
@@j.alexandermyersen1176 'had a good time making it' is not equal to 'it's a classic movie you should see'.
I mean i can't imagine saying "Black Adam" is close to my heart as much as my own hometown that I haven't thought of for so long. I'd just want to sit there and talk about Navan for the rest of the interview.
He was amazing in the movie & really added something special to the role. To see him here so suave, polite, and relaxed - such a gentleman. Will always be one my favorite Bond actors.
Just think of where he has been , what he has seen, the interviewer just mentioned Navan and it stopped him in his tracks. A lovely moment
I love Pierce so much. Huge part of my childhood, Dante's Peak, Mars Attacks, Mrs. Doubtfire, and of course, he's my James Bond. So happy he's still around kicking ass!
It's crazy, the way Irish actors in interviews like this get instantly nostalgic when you hear them talk about or think about Ireland. You can tell how much they miss it, like there's something bred into them that draws their souls back home.
Seeing Pierce in this interview just made me go watch all the best moments of 007, he was my favorite action hero growing up and still is.
I'm not Irish but Pierce is a treasure.
I've not got webbed feet and I agree.
I don't have blonde hair and I agree pierce is very good
Lol didn't know id created the beginnings of a meme.
My point being, I'm not Irish so I can't very well call him a national treasure - I assume only fellow Irishmen could lay claim to him being an (irish) national treasure.
But the responses were very funny.
“A wise man knows how to find a good chair”. Well said Pierce. Thanks for being the 007 of my childhood!
The way he says “TRULY from home”. I felt that. Reminded me of that spark of warmth and kinship I’d feel inside during all my years of living in California whenever I’d come across someone who was not just from my hometown, but the exact same side of town I grew up on. And love all these other comments - so nice to see displays of warmth, kindness and joy in a comments section for a change of pace!
My favourite thing in this clip is the genuine warmth and human connection.
There's a film mentioned in there somewhere, but I enjoyed seeing this more.
The interviewer did a good job. I mean, of course his being from the same hometown started it, but he continued to keep Pierce at ease and comfortable. It felt more personable than the usual (understandably) professional canned responses you normally get from these interviews.
He usually has an accent which is a mixture of Irish, London and American but now he went full small town Irish here.
I didn't know he was Irish until seeing this video. Always thought he was British, but like some of the comments in here said, his native accent came out when he found out they were both from the same town. My accent comes back when I get around my family from Alabama 😅
Accents are funny. My native accent is most noticeable if I go home and watch the mighty Wolves...or if I've been drinking or am angry...apparently 😂....sometimes all 3 at once....
The man just oozes class and humility.
Amazing person
damnnnn ive never seen such a fast "i can ditch my interview persona" ever in my life. its amazing to see, that man of that age and with that knowledge still get chocked up and emotional , and how your hometown and memories from your hometown can tear you up
I'm Irish from Dublin and when in early '95 the teaser trailer for Goldeneye played on the biggest screen in Dublin City, The Savoy cinema... the place went wild with emotional pride.
I don't think I've ever seen an interview where Pierce Brosnan hasn't been lovely, such a down to earth warm guy. SO damn cool too.
Lovley to hear him talking in his natural voice !😍
So hard not to like Pierce. Such a kind gentle soul. What an incredible life he has lived..
Pierce’s accent just got a little more Irish as soon as he found out his connection to the interviewer!
I grew up watching Pierce Brosnan, Remington Steele was my jam he was the coolest guy on tv. When he was announced as Bond I was like hell yeah.
Ah this is lovely Eire will never leave you!! I remember growing up in Irish London the ole boys would tell so many stories of home and would get emotional listening to Irish songs 🇮🇪
Fun fact: he was also the first James Bond from Navan

Pierce is the man! Love all his work and hear he is an outstanding person in and out!
Makes me so happy to see Pierce so happy and proud about his hometown. You can feel the emotion in his voice and see it on his face. He is really a humble and kind person, and it's great to see him still connected to his roots. I'm definitely a fan of his now!
Pierce is MY Bond. He’s an Irish gift to the world.
What a gentleman he is. Just watching how he holds his eye contact is heart warming
The way his eyes lit up when he heard he was from the same hometown just warms my heart.
Brosnan is the most charming SOB I ever saw. He just has this quality about him that naturally exudes. That is why I so utterly love him as James Bond. To me, a person who never read the books, it just seemed like a quality Bond should have.
Bond in the books isn't quite so charming but that's only because who would be more charming than Brosnan.
I still maintain that Brosnan was the best Bond after Connery... and frankly, I think, a somewhat nicer person than Connery. It is fitting that he should age so gracefully, with such magnanimity of spirit. I've never met anyone who knew, knows or have worked with him personally who had a bad word to say about him. But that's just my opinion.
A humble, classy, Chad of a man who's still in touch with his roots.
Respect to you, Pierce. 👍🏼
I just gotta say, Brosnan was the one that got me into 007. He’ll always be my favorite. I have always thought of him as a truly genuine person and a passionate actor.
I love the way Pierce's full on Irish accent comes back. It's just wonderful.
Almost as though he’s always playing a character and this brought out the real man.
A truly unforgettable interview for both 😊
Yeah, it seemed Pierce Brosnan truly enjoyed that interview.

At this period in his life with nothing left to prove it’s a delight to hear Pierce drop comfortably into his off screen natural accent which makes him all the more adorable and fun. Great interview.
This, as well as his marriage, just really exemplifies why Pierce seems like such a wholesome decent dude.

Back when I was still somewhat interested in the franchise, my favorite 007 were Pierce, Timothy and Daniel. The classics didn't really impress me since both Connery and Moore played them as if extensions of themselves, which I don't personally care for.
Guess Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby aren’t worth mentioning
Pierce seems like a good guy. He’s for sure James Bond to me.
When he says "Navan is deep in my heart" you can see in his eyes he's off thinking of his childhood in Navan. Really cool moment.
So cool
Notice how Pierce's Irish brogue was more pronounced during this interview, particularly when he started to discuss Navan 😊

It just occured to me while watching this, that because of the way the last Bond movie ended, Pierce could potentially (depending on how they wrangle it) return as a former 007. I'd love to see that happen. Such a true gent.
