I had actually blown off half my daughter's birthday party to go see him. I was going to show up later to the party! When I saw him, he was surprised to see me because he had actually remembered it was my daughter's birthday, which floored me. I told him I was blowing off half the party to visit him. He got very concerned and refused to be the reason I missed my daughter's birthday! He refused to visit with me (promising to make it up to me at a later date) but not before recording a video on my digital camera apologizing to my wife for being the reason I missed the first half of the party. He proceeded to beg her forgiveness for both me and him and assured her he was throwing me out of the convention and sending me back to the party, which he did. My wife loved him for that. Extraordinary man.

Christopher Lee(May he rest in peace), James Earl Jones, Morgan Freeman and Anthony Hopkins.. these are just a few of the most powerful voices i've ever heard be it in movies or otherwise!
What I find so great is how their voices are powerful in a whisper. When they speak, everyone listens.
@@Helbore indeed, they command attention and respect!
Don't forget Robert Stack (RIP) and the incredibly underrated Michael Wincott.
John Gielgud and Orson Welles, as well…epic and superb voices that enhance the consciousness of the audience.

He's so compelling in everything he appears in. Be it major films or interviews or behind the scenes documentaries, he has such a powerful presence and aura of wisdom. Such a shame we lost him.
@Dick Trickle While true, when it comes to these kind of people, it ALWAYS feels too soon.
One of the very few actors whose life story is more interesting than many of the roles he played.

Lee: ".....lollipops"
"Cavities on a stick."
Oh god here come the flashbacks.

*CARA-MELS. THEY’D GET STUCK IN YOUR BRACES, WOULDN’T THEY?!*
You can't really argue with Christopher Lee, he was one of those rare people who never talked for the sake of talking; he always had something to say that was properly thought through and had been tested in real life.
Typical istj
This guy played Dracula 107,865 times, but he's still right about typecasting killing your career. He was one of the rare few able to overcome it with raw talent and charisma.
Well I think 107, 865 times is an exaggeration.
There’s doing the same thing because you can’t do anything else, and there’s doing the same thing because that’s what people want to see you do. Sir Christopher did the latter.
I don't know about that. I think he was, well, safe for a lot of us. I don't mean that in a mean way. He was an actor we all remembered in some way from our childhoods. And so once we got older, the people who grew up watching him wanted him in their movies.
@Nicholas Janke No, it's literally true lol.
He got bored of the Dracula role quite quickly. I read the only reason he agreed to do it for so long, was purely out of kindness, so all his friends and co-workers in the crew at Hammer were kept in work during some of the hard times the studio were having. What a gent. So much depth to his character, so many sides to this man. Honour and kindness are fast becoming forgotten words.
I could listen to Christopher Lee advice all day long.
Wonderful advice it’s tragic to see most actors let the publicity go to there heads only to be tossed aside once we get tired of looking at them.
It's a cliché, but actresses and news anchers throughout the decades.
Many forgotten or discarded.

The amount of wisdom and experience he gave in only two minutes, it’s absolutely incredible.
I wish my generation listened to older people more.
No one ever mentions that Christopher Lee was a skilled fencer and helped create form 2 in star wars to reflect his refined fighting style.
He was perhaps one of the first actors or people ever to put effort into adding more realistic sword play into a movie.
Poo poo 💩
He always putted so much of his own personal experience into his acting and the movies he acted in. Another example is when he explained what happened when people get stabbed from behind in Lotr, CAUSE HE SAW IT HAPPENING.
@@giacomoromano8842 I remember somewhat how Peter Jackson described it. To paraphrase:
"Do you know what happens when you stab someone in the back? Because I do..."
And then Sir Christopher Lee proceeded to explain why someone being stabbed in the back would be gasping with each stab. Because the breath leaves the body... or something like that. 😂
I am now 75: when I was 23, Christopher was in my office in Regent Street with words of profundity and wisdom. I laughed inside at some of the things he said. From a young and inspired fool, time has proven him right and I thank a kind and gentle-man for fueling my development over all the passing years since. "GEM"
God I miss him, his voice, his knowledge, he truly is one of a kind. I am so happy he was in the lord of the rings and the Star Wars franchise. Now when people see those movies hopefully they’re curious who this actor was which will then lead them down a rabbit hole to the rest of his films. What a legend.
His heavy metal albums are unexpected treats, his chance to FINALLY do opera.
I took theatre in college and my prof told me that character acting was by far the most rewarding and ever lasting choice. To be a romantic lead and/or an ingenue was what Christopher Lee said very limiting and short lived. You are the flavour of the month, year or decade and disappear with the newest look or trend. But to be a chameleon THAT is an everyman or woman that will always get work no matter how old you get. Look at All the older actors they play Everything and sometimes they are so good you don’t even recognize them!
Gary Oldman comes to mind, you can put 40 different men in a room, and every single one is Gary Oldman. THAT is acting.
Christopher Lee is spot on.
@@coreyengwall6779was just about to comment that
Or just play both lead and charactors as a everyday man like Tom Hanks and have it all!
The man had a great military career, multiple music albums, and happens to also be such a talented actor. The effect he had on any cast, even directors. What a life! This man lived. And what a true commentary about the society we live in today, especially with social media, in love with themselves, seeking to be rich and famous social media stars from when they're only just children. He is absolutely right that it is dangerous, and you can see why depression rates are so high among teens these days, "only one way to go when you start so high."
I 've seen many a comment mourning the departure of sir Lee (like, six years ago), and, not knowing much about his career, did a bit of research. Holy bajeesus, was he a rockstar! Serving in RAF, doing a ton of singing (opera and metal), acting and voice-acting... He lived a rich life, no doubt. Keep rocking in heaven, Sir :)
Yes. and he was the inspiration for James bond.
Nazi hunter in the Special Operations Executive (real-life Inglorious Basterds, but competent). Descendant of Lucretia Borgia and Charlemagne.
He lived an extraordinary life and i admire him for all the fantastic work he's done and this clip is adding onto why i loved him as not only an actor but a human being.

Phenomenal man. I wouldn't say I was a close friend, but I was friendly with him and he was gracious and kind in real life. One time he was at a convention.

Wow, so profound...and true.
To pursue a life seeking all the fortune and fame, but not the ability to look into one's self for self love is an empty and hollow way to live, especially when fame and fortune are so temporary (when practiced in this manner)
Those who convey themselves humbly, wholesomely and have purest of hearts often times become popular (whether locally, or globally) for the RIGHT reasons, NOT because of your pocket-change.
What an enlightening figure to add to my list of great inspirators.
We miss you Christopher Lee, and we will always remember your works and knowledge to spread unto these forward generations.

Just watching a few interviews of him helped me more than all the "wisdom" given to me by school, family and friends.. the guy is really amazing and I wish his lessons would be given to more people
Ah, but I must retort. Self love is also a dead end. Its epitome is narcissism. Self-anything brings a person nowhere in life but ultimate ruin. Selfishness is, at the end of the day, the root cause of all ills in the world. Just something I've learned over time.

I think the best actors often come from other walks of life first, because they've lived long enough to pursue the craft and not care about pleasing the audience, that just comes naturally.
What a life he had. Legend gets thrown around too easily these days, but guys like him are a true example of the word. Total gentleman on top of that too.
