    And if you like turrets... Try the type 10 defender. It's build in the way, that if you mount turrets on him, there's almost no blindspot for them. It's the only ship built this way, i think

      A common tactic for two people in a wing is to each bring a type 10 with turreted weapons and 2 small fixed 'healing beams' in front (engineered with Concordant Sequence). They just face each other and hold down buttons.

    Another tip, never run into an opponent with 1 pip is SYS. 1 or 2 pips in SYS make your shields weak. On the other hand, 4 pips in SYS increase the damage resistance by 60%. Before you ram something, put 4 pips into SYS and you will see the difference.

    You can still collect the materials that were dropped by the npcs. You just need to deploy your cargo hatch and scoop them up.

    • @davidsandberg6179
      @davidsandberg6179 10 месяцев назад +1

      I was about to post the same thing. It takes a little longer to scoop up materials with the hatch, but it’s actually a lot of fun for someone who enjoys piloting their ship, and is at a minimum worth doing if you see something really rare floating out there after a kill. But then again, I’m one of the weird commanders who always insists upon landing/launching his ships manually, so take that into account, I suppose.

    Gimbals do less damage than fixed and turrets do less still. In big ships I tend to use fixed on my main weapons and turrets for some of the smaller hardpoints. Have various engineering effects that make them more "utility" weapons rather than DPS. Getting constantly hit does prevent the enemy shields starting regenerating, tho.
    For best cinematic experience, you should multicrew into someone else's ship and then just use cinematic cameras while they fight.

    • @JG27Korny
      @JG27Korny 10 месяцев назад

      I just wondet why they did not implement different cameras views, those come standard with every flight sim. That would help massively video developpers to make videos and market the game.

    • @JG27Korny
      @JG27Korny 10 месяцев назад +1

      I completely agree that a PVE build has to be based on a core concept with secondary effects playing a major role. I like a lot the turrets on small weopon points for their secondary effect. Like small fragment with dazzle shell and small turret cannon with dispersal field. Those two protect you in the big ship more efficiently than chaff with way more endurance.

    On my corvette, I have the two side hardpoints on turret mounts, since they can hit almost anything above or below. I have the engineering mod on them that regens shields of friendly targets, so if I'm in a wing and see one of them losing shields, I can instantly target them and freshen them up.

  • @austinm5630

    Never thought I'd hear someone so overjoyed about turreted lasers in Elite :)
    All kidding aside, glad you like them. FYI, your first impression was not wrong: IF you have human crew, they can control the turrets manually. Otherwise they do what you experienced here.
    You can drop into a SLF (Ship-Launched Fighter, like the Condor or Taipan) and as long as you set your turrets to "Fire at Will" your main ship will follow you around and back you up. This only works with turrets, with gimbaled or fixed guns you will have to hire NPC crew and until you rank them up, they won't actually fire your weapons very much so they are somewhat useless at lower ranks.
    The fixed SLFs are very easy to hit with due to their agility, and they deal equal DPS to a Class 4 Hardpoint, so flying one on the Corvette it's like you have three class 4 guns. Go with the Pulse Laser SLF of your choice, though I don't recommend the Gu-97 because you never need that much agility and it's so weak it can easily be destroyed by accidental friendly fire. You can also try the Plasma Repeater and Beam Laser variants of the Taipan and Condor, but I don't recommend either. The Plasma Repeater just deals less damage and requires you to lead your shots for no benefit, while the Beam Laser Taipan, somehow, does less actual DPS than the Pulse Laser one while generating more heat. (It does have a heatsink launcher but that's not sustainable for long.)
    Also, if you ever get tired of flying your Corvette, you can stick a trio of engineered Beam Turrets on top of the Krait Mk II, then use Plasma Slug Railguns in the size 2 slots. This will allow you to focus all your efforts on landing the railgun shots while the turrets passively attack whatever they can. You can try other guns, like MCs or Shock Cannons, but the Plasma Slug Rails have effectively infinite ammo, so between them and the lasers up top, you can stay out there fighting for hours if you want to.

    • @Foxyloxy.X
      @Foxyloxy.X  10 месяцев назад

      This is so awesome, so many weapon choices and combinations to try and with engineering, the options are expanded a lot more, can't wait to try all of them. And as for the SLF, I usually use fix beam lasers for all my fighter, I will try the pulse laser for it.

    How's it going Foxy!
    Keep up the great work in learning everything you can about E:D/O!
    I have another set of tips and tricks for you and the other Commanders out there, and as usual we'll take them in the order I see them in your video, so...
    1) Turreted vs Gimballed vs Fixed:
    1a) Fixed we@pons have no arc or fire (target must be directly ahead) but do more damage and range than the other two types. They also tend to have less heat buildup.
    1b) Turreted we@pons have the greatest arc of usability, (Only limited to line of sight and distance. This does mean that a we@pon on top of your ship cannot target an enemy underneath you, etc.) but do less damage and tend to have the least range and highest heat buildup. These can be run off ship systems OR manned by other Commanders or NPC Crew. (I believe)
    1c) Gimballed we@pons are the middle ground between the two.
    2) Any Gimballed or Turreted we@pon can be set to "Fire At Will" in the right hand panel. (default key 4) (I don't remember the exact tab off hand, so you'll need to look around in there. And I don't remember if this applies to Fixed or not. Someone help me out here?)
    3) If you have the engineering materials to do so, you CAN "Synthesize" (create while flying) 4 Limpets at a time. Right hand panel. Inventory Tab. Synthesis Sub-Menu. This also works for many other systems, including @mmo. Some allow for basic, improved, and premium versions. (Limpets only get basic. Sorry guys, no smart Limpets.)
    4) Without Limpets, you CAN open your cargo scoop, target an individual material and fly toward it. One of your holographic HUDs will change to give you a Cargo-Scoop-View that you can use to swoop your ship over and catch the material with.
    5) At 5:30 on the top right of your screen you received a message, "Unable to receive data! Storage Full." This indicates you have reached the maximum capacity for 1 of the many engineering material types. I highly suggest finding a Materials Trader (Data) and turning some of that type into something else so you can keep collecting. There are also Manufactured and Raw Materials Traders.
    6) There are no Size 4 Turreted we@pons. Size 4 is limited to Gimballed and Fixed.
    7) Are you using a Kill Warrant Scanner? This optional inclusion gives you more money if you run a kill warrant scan (not the basic ship scan) on a ship before firing,
    8) Not all ships show battle damage. (I wish more did)
    9) Crew will not open fire on a ship unless you have already fired at it, making the other ship hostile. The "engage my target" is used to focus their fire on a single specific ship if there are multiple hostiles and crew are choosing the wrong one. They also often "can't do that" if they're already focused on the ship in question.
    Keep up the great work Commander. You'll have your first Elite ranking soon, allowing access to Shinrarta Dezhra, the home of the most famous Station in the game, Jameson Memorial. That station sells almost every module, and is home station to a large segment of the playerbase.

    The T10 Defender can mount more weapons than the Corvette, if you're loving the turrets. There people who build them, park them in a conflict area and then walk away from the game for a day. It's a way to make money. You have to set the turrets to fire at will from the ship menu. This is called an AFK build.

      The problem with "target at will" is that it can split your fire among a bunch of ships and take longer to kill any of them. (while they're picking away at your shields) Having the turrets fire on your targets lets you melt each target in turn much faster even of some of the turrets don't have a firing arc sometimes.
      And you don't really need a kill warrant scanner. Your ship will auto scan anything targeted in front of you and tell you if it's wanted. A kill warrant scanner will get you more money in bounties if they're wanted by multiple factions, but you can easily get by without one.

    Turret behavior can be changed on the right side panel on the Ship Tab, and you can set them to either fire fixed forward (as if it was a fixed mount), fire on target only (as you were using), or free targeting on any hostile (each turret individually picks a target and shoots it). I don't fully remember, but I think if you leave on free targeting, the ship may fire even when not manned (been a long time since I tested that myself). In general, turrets will deal the same damage as the fixed version of a smaller size (a Size 4 Turret deals same damage as a Size 3 Fixed). The drop is quite a lot, but as you noticed, being able to keep on target almost indefinitely is also good (specially nice on larger and slower ships). And as other people already mentioned, shield recharge (aside from SCBs) only starts after some time not taking damage, which turrets negates easily.

    Turrets are fun, and really useful on slow turning ships (like the Corvette), but you are right about the DPS. Turreted weapons on average are a little over half as strong as gimballed weapons, and the same goes for gimballed vs fixed. The more manual aiming you have to do, the stronger your weapons are. As you also noticed in this video, they have a REALLY hard time hitting small ships, and even sometimes hit friendlies which turns them against you. As such, turreted weapons are really only good on large ships, which can't turn fast enough to shoot smaller ships with fixed weapons (unless you're just a really good pilot, then anything is possible). If you do use turrets though, it's always a good idea to mix them up a little, like adding some kinetic weapons like multi-cannons for hull damage.

    • @CMDR_RileyAngel

      @devoutrelic1228 10 месяцев назад

      @@CMDR_RileyAngel Yes, but it's still slower turning than any medium or small ship (without engineering anyway), which is all I meant. Large ships without turrets have a hard time keeping up with smaller ships.

    For bounty hunting, turret weapons are good IMO. It deals a lot of damage continuously, you'll find if you try a hazardous res zone (looks like your in a high res zone), then ships will attack you first sometimes and also in small groups (looks like you had mission targets, so wings of 3 etc), for instance if you attacked an eagle the anaconda might have attacked you (if in hazardous) and the fights can be a bit tougher + bounties pay a bit more.

    Unfortunately or fortunately, size 4 turrets do not exist. 4 size in elite is like a megagun)
    Sorvette is not very suited to turrets due to the fact that he is very maneuverable, and what a set of hardpoints he has.
    But, this does not mean that the turrets are worse than other guns because of the lower DPS. For some reason, people’s brains are swollen with DPS stat only, but it’s not right to look only at DPS. Why? Now I’ll explain everything.
    Characteristics of DPS, shows us information in the "vacuum". That is, this stat is true as long as you can fire the cannon non-stop and without missing. But in combat, these ideal conditions never exist. It takes time to turn around, to aim, and to restore the capacitor. This is why pure DPS means almost nothing.
    -A fixed weapon does a lot of damage, but against even a slightly experienced pilot it will be very difficult to hit a lot with it, as well as aiming, and the capacitor this weapon dies out very quickly.
    -This is why gimbal weapons are so popular. It almost eliminates the aiming time and lowers the number of misses per second, but it still takes time to turn around and recharge the capacitor.
    -And finally, turrets, although they have the smallest DPS, they do not need time to turn around the ship, because they cover the entire space above the point where they are installed, and by themselves rotate very quickly. And no matter how maneuverable the target is, keeping it above or below the ship is not a problem. Of course, the aiming time does not apply to them at all, and minimizing misses they like gimbals. And they consume the capacitor less than all the other guns, what allows them to shoot much longer.
    And if suddenly someone else does not understand, all this indicates to us that the weapon is well balanced, and the real DPS in real conditions they have + - the same. Therefore, when equipping a warship with weapons, you need to look not only at the DPS, but also at what kind of ship you are equipping and what you want to achieve from the weapon.
    Personally, I love piloting huge impenetrable battlecruisers. The purpose of which is not to blow up one or two opponents very quickly and fly to reload, but to fly around the battle space for a long time and create pressure on the enemy, slowly but surely destroying one ship after another. That's why I'm piloting a beautiful imperial cutter with sick numbers on shield strength. And the weapons are beam laser turrets on the top, which can shoot endlessly, because thanks to the engineers they do not consume the capacitor at all, and on the bottom there are two Pack-Hound Missile Racks. Just in case ;)
    In 1vs1 pvp, this assembly, by the way, also knows no defeats. And I don’t even try 1 vs 2, it’s not noble :DDD

    There is a Type 10 build where you can park it in a low or medium haz. res. with a few tonnes of cargo, set your turrets to auto. and let pirates come to you and die with NO INPUT from the player.... its hard to balance power, shields, weapons and heat but doable with engineering.

    I would advise you to change that turrets on huge hardpoints from class 3 turrets class, to class 4 gimballs. These are not turrets, but make much more damage than the class 3 turrets.
    Generally you can say that two weapons class 1 does the same amount of damage as one class 2, two weapons class 2 does the same amount of damage as one class 3... You get the point. On your current build you're just wasting that two class 4 hardpoints

    Turrets suck big time. The DPS loss relative to fixed is huge, for balancing. You lose 50% damage output. Plus they don't work if the target uses chaff. So another 50% loss. You end up with a quarter the possible output and some weapons don't come as turrets.
    I strongly suggest agile small/medium ships and learning to fly them to have maximum time on target. A Vulture can kill faster than a Corvette sometimes, but definitely a Chieftain 😉 You will regret the time lost on turrets and large ships someday, trust me. In your video, you hardly do damage, it's mostly the police. That's why the Eagle got away 😜

      @@Foxyloxy.X The intent of my comment was to point out that the Federal Corvette is a Combat Ship. Designed from the wheels up to fight. Courier/cargo/donation mission Admiral's won't have the experience to fully appreciate the combat capabilities of this ship until they get more combat hours in. When you start taking on other Admirals in Corvettes, even though many will have the bonus of engineering, the fight is different. Take one assassination mission that pays ~ 5 mil and you are going up against a 'Vette (in fed territory) and, of course, and NPC Admirial. Then take on three. For me, it is a 36mil cr rebuy. :)

    Material Grind is probably the worst part of Elite. To be honest I feel like a lot of the game's other shortcomings (and there are many) would be forgiven for easier access to the content people want to actually play over mat grinding. That being said, it definitely has its moments. Combat is horribly balanced but it's still quite fun, and the music definitely adds to it if you have it turned on.

    • @vcc_pdr
      @vcc_pdr 10 месяцев назад +1

      There is no grind, you can play the game w/o any engineering just like before ~2018. And if you want mats to fall from the sky, then what is the point? You want something, 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗶𝘁. At least mats bring some challenge and goals to reach, unlike money that is just waaaay too easy to earn and boring.
      Always take mats as mission reward and you quickly drown in them, with just about right sum of money (side things like bounties, exo etc...). I find this approach to bring really good balance to the game.

    Some edvice with beam/puls /burst laser a simple 1 tier long range engineering upgrade , removes damage dropoff and you get as much damage at 3km as you would gat at 500 meters . Sturdy lasers will improve penetration of armour . making them more destructive to armour and internals . Focused lasers have a combination of sturdy and long range . Having longer ranges and Extreem penetration of armour hardness . But they still have damage drop off .
